Do you see this? Do you see this right here? Go grab your AR and look on the left side. Does it have a picture of a colt horse engraved in it? Does it have the most important 4-letter word in America, "COLT", right next to it?

Then I'm afraid I've got some bad news. You see, you wasted your money on a crappy AR made by some fly by night company that has absolutely no history. That has absolutely no heritage. That absolutely nobody outside of your hipster friends even knows about, and even if they did they wouldn't buy it because they'd be smart enough to realize there's no good reason to buy an AR from any other company besides COLT.

Because when you buy COLT, you buy quality. People like to bitch and moan and claim you're "paying extra for the pony". You're damn shitting right we are. We're paying extra for a high quality no-bullshit meant-to-be-used-and-abused-and-still-work (not kept in a safe so you can show it off to your internet "friends") product made by a high quality no-bullshit company that's been making guns in this country for CENTURIES. Not a couple of years. Not a decade. FOR ONE HUNDRED SIXTY MOTHER FUCKING YEARS. People buy AKs because of their "history"? All I can say is LOL.

Anyway, COLT owners feel free to post ITT. Non-COLT owners stay the fuck out.

Yeah that's going to be a problem. Astigmatism is a separate issue from vision. Regular glasses don't correct for astigmatism and a lot of people don't realize that so they think they can't use red dots.
>>
>>62764951
>I truly don't understand why people say this when one of the main benefits of a dot is an illuminated aiming point in all lighting conditions.
Because the dot isn't blowing out so bad you can't shoot across your dimly lit goon cave you subhuman, the only time it will be a problem is outdoors...where it's not a problem.

GO OUTSIDE AND SHOOT.

Positive
Holding zero on 5.56 and 308
No parasitic drain
Both of mine have been innawoods for a month and in heavy rain and salt water exposure, still functional

Negative
My prototypes were not fully sealed, but now he's sealing most of the things
Vis/ir laser alignment/divergence inconsistent (one of my units is 1" at 100, the other is 4")
Unknown if la23/crane plug is internally sealed inside the housing to prevent leaks from immersion
Illuminator dilator adjustment moves the beam vertically about 10moa when tightening and loosening
Poor communication from chink man about rectifying issues (it takes him a week to respond)

Some of this stuff has been fixed, but until he sends me new units to test I still suggest skipping them. Short term, the m6 is a more solid choice.

the strela is quite good. theyre better than USA made ones because they dont have to comply with ATF requirements. ive never used it on a 10.5 but ive used it for other guns and it's pretty awesome at night. 3 prongs are ok too of course, it wont be a world of difference, but it'll probaby take the concussion off + some of the flash.

they are sensitive to how they're installed - using a shim stack or crush washer changes the blast volume and will change your flash performance. so play around with it.

>Illuminator dilator adjustment moves the beam vertically about 10moa when tightening and loosening
Just to clarify, are you saying that the POA of the IR illuminator shifts around when you adjust the size of the illuminator focus? Do both of your units do this?

I have a Chinese NGAL airsoft clone and the IR illuminator focus adjustment has hysteresis, some tight spots in its adjustment, and during firing and during adjustment the apparent POA of the illuminator relative to the aiming laser appears to shift, significantly, such that the IR illuminator is no longer centered on the aiming laser.
If BOTH of your units do this, then between the two of us we have three units that have this issue. At that point it isn't QC, but design.
Would be good to know.

If you've been shooting the MBT2S a while and switch to an SSAE you will notice that it's a bit lighter and also a much crisper reset.

SSA has a better reset, everything else will come down to personal preference. I like them both for different reasons.
>>
>>62771258
myself and another anon are running chopped ones, I'm sure factory le6945's are out there but i haven't seen them. ours were chopped by innovative arms so they're at the very least professionally bubba'd
>>
>>62771258
6943s and 6945s pop up every now and again when a run is made or a used agency dump happens, but the expedient option is a 6940 from brownells and cutting or rebarreling it
>>
>>62771305
oh. my b i wasnt trying to throw shade. i just read somewhere that chopped was worse than factory colt. I have no idea why though. so long as it shoots fine.

i saw those back when they were on sale, i probably shouldve bought one. but it was chopped so i resisted.
>>
>>62771327
>i just read somewhere that chopped was worse than factory colt
That just has to do with rifling twist rate. Ideally for velocity and stability you want two full rotations of rifling, which would be 1:7 for a 14" barrel, 1:8 for a 16" barrel, etc.

Cutting down a 1:8 twist rate 16" barrel down to 12" would reduce your rifling revolutions to 1.5

You would want a 1:6 twist rate for a 12" barrel, but that can also cause stability issues if the twist is too aggressive. Going to a 1:7 out of a 12.5" is alright since it's not too agressive, and will give you around 1.8 revolutions before the bullet exits the barrel.

The way twist rates work is 1:7 means that for every 7 inches, the rifling does a complete rotation once. :D
>>
Difference between ssa and ssae? Might snag some next week
>>
>>62771327
>i wasnt trying to throw shade.
I didn't take it that way at all. From what I've been told, a lot of agency's opted to buy 6940's, swap to sbr lowers they already had, and have the barrels chopped as it was cheaper than form 4'ing a new batch of sbr's. The 6940 has a smaller gas port size than the shorter barrel variants, keep that in mind if you go the chopped route.
>>
>>62771359
You'll figure it out
>>
>>62771345
>let me just completely ignore bullet weight
>>
>>62771382
I did not get into that, since everything changes when you account for different bullet weights from M855, to standard ball, to steel pen, to M855A1, etc.

I would say it's a safe bet to go with standard 75 grain, or at least standardize your ammo weight so that you get consistent results.

But also, I am not a ballistic scientist and there is a lot that goes into ballistic science and 2 revolutions of rifling is a sweet spot for most 556 rounds. Then again, do whatever you want! Anything that makes you happy is mega based and rifle-pilled. I just like seeing others happy and enjoying their time at the range :DDD

Well I am officially disappointed and appropriately ashamed to have spent money on this piece of shit. It didn't even make it through a single mag without malfunctions.

First 12-15 rounds with the suppressor on went fine, and for a brief moment I experienced hope. Then it started short stroking and failing to feed, and didn't stop. As soon as it got even slightly dirty it shit the bed. Didn't matter what setting I had the gas block on. It's now almost impossible to charge, the recoil spring binds in the last half inch of travel.

I should have test fired it before I form 1'd the lower so I could have just sold it and cut my losses. Now I'm stuck with it and not sure what to do.

Fuck Foxtrot Mike uppers. Their recoil spring design is pure ass, their BCG is under engineered trash, and their charging handle design is garbage too. The lower is decent and the handguard lockup is pretty good but that's it. Absolutely gunsoomer waste of money.

assuming it would be similar to the 7.62 version you need to weld extra plate on the sides for reinforcement, mill the upper to clear the ak mags internally, and clearance the carrier for the feed lips. not impossible, but not easy for most average joes.

When are people going to learn to buy a fucking DI AR? It's that simple. Do a bit of research, choose one of many reputable manufacturers, and buy a DI AR from them. Not shitting on you specifically here, anon but there's a reason companies like this are in business in the first place and it really puzzles me. Rifles were solved by Eugene Stoner et. al. in the 1960s, I don't know why people are still fucking with what has been working for decades.

Every AR is a DI AR. Everyone has multiple DI ARs. Some people want to try something that is different.
>solved by Eugene stoner in the 60s
Yes, but also no. A buffer tube sucks.
>>
>>62772591
Well, it is DI anon. A 16" DI AR was the very first AR I bought. I'm also an insufferable hipster that likes curious oddities and folding stocks which leads me to make mistakes like this one. I defend nothing. I am merely sharing this experience that others might not repeat my mistakes. I am not the first person to buy one of these rifles, but hopefully I can be the last.

>>62772632
Yeah, pretty much. The 416 is dogshit compared to a properly tuned high-end DI gun.
>>62772630
Your post just got me thinking about all the shitty "not an AR" guns there are out there and the people who buy them.
>>
>>62772644
>What sucks about it? Inb4 the thing that sucks about it.
It's not even explicitly about folding. You are hard restricted by the length of the buffer tube for what kind of stock you can use. You will never have anything shorter than the length of the tube without having to fuck around with gas settings in response. I love my AR dearly, but everything lately is trying to do away with a buffer tube.
>>
>>62772658
>You will never have anything shorter than the length of the tube
Why would I want that in a rifle outside of moving it around/storing it?

In my case, I was baited by the dual gimmick of bufferless + AK mags. I do like AK mags and the paddle release, I just don't like AKs. Had a 74 and got rid of it.

In the case of FM, I suspect their origin is pretty similar to a lot of thee companies. They were a machine shop, maybe doing some decent business as an OEM (FM was doing OEM parts for Brownells) and one day the owner had a big think moment and decided, hey, maybe I'm the next Eugene Stoner.

Unlike many of the literalywho budget tier AR manufacturers out there, FM seems to have pretty solid machining and manufacturing. The fit and finish, tolerances, etc on this are all good. You can caliper the inside of the carrier, bolt tail, etc and everything is good to go at least by the standards described by sources like SOTAR. So FM is likely a pretty decent OEM for say, Browning retro ARs and shit like that.

FMs issue is that their attempts to modify the design are shit. Being a good machinist does not make you a good engineer, and this is such a clear example of that. Sure they made everything fit and theoretically work, but no real engineering rigor was applied to any of the changes made to the base design and it shows. It's very bubba tier engineering. The shortened carrier lacks sufficient mass. The attempt to cram the recoil assembly into the upper without changing the uppers dimensions to allow for a dual-spring-on-rails type assembly like an AR18 or MCX or whatever gives way to this absolutely retarded nested spring that is prone to binding. It's those fundamental design flaws that make this a fail.

>You are hard restricted by the length of the buffer tube for what kind of stock you can use
The rough max LOP of a VLTOR A5 system, the longest tube you'd use an adjustable stock on, is 15.25". The rough minimum of a carbine system, the shortest tube you'd use an adjustable stock on, is the length of the tube, which is about 10 inches. This obviously doesn't account for the pistol tubes that come on rage toys, but nobody gives a shit about those. If you need anything shorter than 10 inches or longest than 15.25, you are a freak of nature and I feel sorry for you.
>but I need the stock to f00000ld!!!!!
no, you don't
>>
>>62772666
>Why would I want that outside of the reasons why I would want that
What's wrong with you satan?
>>
>>62772667
>Being a good machinist does not make you a good engineer
Machinists love finding a dimensioning mistake in a junior engineer's drawing then talking about it for the rest of their career. Then they fuck up the spindle on a 500,000 dollar mill and say the machine did it on its own.
