I fully expected the collapse of KUSA but I'm still a little disappointed about it because for a brief moment it looked like KUSA was the chosen one. Will any American AK-47 manufacturer ever make AK's correctly?

Anyone knows what parts are these on that gun? Doesn't seem like an original Nork gun, and a Sork blog seems to say that this is a civilian gun, so I guess this is some sort of an imitation.

Its a screw built gun with a pps-43 stock mounted. The handguard is an amd-65. The barrel shroud and gas tube look to be custom made.

There was a very small run of "ppsh" AKs built by someone but this doesn't look like one of those

Anyone attest to issues with the 7.62 Jacks? I've heard the barrels are bad and people are having them group 10moa. And do they share the firing pin issues as well, or is that limited to the 5.56 ones?

Not that anon but Riley seems to care about making good quality ak's. PSA is now finally rumored to doing swell neck rivets and dimpled receivers. Psa ak 101 seems to have an akm front trunnion with a 74 pattern bolt and in general their 101 has reliability issues. Apparently riley is making a 5.56 gun so they may be put best shot at kr101 equivalent.

>>
For a side mount for a prism scope should I go full rail or a "rear bias"? Full rail would give me more real estate but with the limited eye relief of prisms it would probably be wasted, and a rear bias would be lighter. I guess i can tape a scope dust cover to see where I would need to place it?
>>
>>62838347
Rear bias. There’s no point adding the weight of the full rail when you’re not using the front part.

How hard is it to have a good builder turn down a standard 16" AKM 23mm trunnion barrel into a 102/104/105 length SBR 12.5" barrel?

Any suggestions for a upgraded safety selector for an ambidextrous safety VEPR 12?

>>62834105
It really is ridiculous that no one seems to be able to get their shit together with US made AKs.
I think it says a lot that the best quality AKs are made by small "named" builders. Jim Fuller, Rifle Dynamics, Two Rivers, and countless other small "builders".
The nature of craftsmanship and true gunsmithing involved in AK production means that without an attention to detail and process on an individual level, the firearm won't be durable and reliable to the extent that a true killing tool ought to be. When individuals and small businesses have their livelihood on the line, then we see good AKs getting produced. The moment that the risk is dispersed and the cost of failure externalized from the builder themselves, as is the case with PSA, KUSA, Riley etc, that is when quality seems to shit the bed.

It is a wonder that original European AKs were built to the standard that they were, in the numbers that they were. Something something about demographic shift US stateside perhaps.

Maybe the reason why companies like KUSA and PSA and Riley can't make a quality AK is the same reason democracy fails.

I don't really want one. We got two options here : either original Saiga 9, but since the war they're virtually gone and the last remnant on the market are from fucking scumbags reselling them for three times their original worth (nah, i'm not paying $2K for a stamped sheet of metal firing 9mm) OR since gun shops understood that they had no other choices : KUSA versions. And i don't NOT paying the amount they ask for them in Switzerland either. Not to mention the cost of magazines.

No really, i've been looking left and right, and what seems to be called a "Draco 9s" under your latitudes seems to be pretty much considered a fun, reliable 9mm AK.

What torque/ft-lbs should I use for a thread adaptor to mount a muzzle device for a suppressor? I don't want to rely entirely on Rocksett because Murphy's Law. I know it's very frowned upon due to tolerance stacking, but let's assume a near-perfect world, because in a perfect world the muzzle device would not be "out of stock" nearly a year at this point.
>>
>>62848234
>nu-saigas are psa tier anyways.

copeman
>>
>>62848994
The manufacturer should specify it. Also try with blue Loctite before Rocksett, with proper torque it should be just fine. Far easier to remove and maintain than fucking Rocksett.

Otherwise 30-40Nm is usually a good value. Which is 22.127 ft-lbs to 29.502 ft-lbs. Do NOT overtorque.

I've put over 2k over 00 buck through the two Chinese S12 clones I've got, and probably another 3-4k combined through other AK builds, and I'm pretty confident that for me at least the most ergonomic AK safety selector type is the standard typical Krebs/Armacon style with the the platform ledge about midway up the selector lever.
This PSA one has been working well on the EG build.

For some reason my mind blanked on the extended lower safety shelf and was thinking of the left side selector. My bad.
As for aftermarket safeties; since it does have the left side selector and it's kind of a pain to fuck with, I never looked very far into replacing it.
I personally try not to permanently modify guns, so i wouldn't cut it off. Maybe try a different grip (the actual grip) or modify how you grip.
Or just wear gloves and deal with it.
If Nubs can, so can you.

Novus PDS-1 anon, how has the optic held up so far? I'm thinking of getting either that or a OKP-7 clone for my KP9
>>
>>62857666
No I got it. Now take it off safe where it would be when firing.
Yes it's right on your hand so you can actuate it without really changing your grip, that's the point.
As far as i can tell, none of the aftermarket V12 safeties will fit because of the left side switch. I think theres a "delete" kit but you still have to use the factory right side lever.
Could be wrong but all the posts about changing the safety are from fixed stock versions that don't have the left side lever.
But look around anyways, maybe you'll find something I missed.
Do me a favor and take it out a few times and try it out before you do anything.
I'm sure you're gonna want to put some GK-02 type brake on it so look for the threaded chokes.
Here's Midways listing I'm sure you can find it elsewhere too.
I'd get the modified myself.

Russians civies don't want new saigas. They only want older saigas or even older AKs. The new ones have a terrible reputation for shoddy quality. I didn't even know they were made in India but it wouldn't be surprising.
>>
>>62860336
Saigas themselves aren’t made in India, but India builds the AK-203 domestically, and a lot of people suspect they’re making MIM parts to send back to Russia like they do for Sig in the USA.

Yeah in the off safe position it is very comfy. I messed with it some more and I think I can get use to the operation.
>do me a favor
Yeah absolutely, I'm going to really to try restrain myself for turning this very nice gun into an abortion. After messing with the safety a bit more I think I can get used to its actuation. You use the index finger and entire hand in a knife hand manner to sweep the right side lower extended lever platform upwards to take the safety off, then use just the index finger pushing down on said platform nub to turn the safety on. Honestly the left hand manipulation of the safety selector setup I prefer because it is much more akin to operating a left hand ambidextrous AR safety selector.
>GK-02 type brake
I want to SBS and chop it to 14" or so and put a JK 195 Versax can on there actually.
Thanks for the suggestions though on the brakes.
>cheek pad
I sorta like it, as you said I need to run the gun some more to actually decide.

Should've "reconditioned" it before cutting on it. But that would've taken a long time and been a fairly laborous process if you really wanted it to be "restored". And it still may have cracked.
Seems like a waste when you just slotted it for a mlock section.
Still, not too bad. And it doesn't look odd or too out of place either.

For an AK you don't just swap an upper. The receiver is already setup to work with the larger 12 gauge mags. Even if you figured out how to make the receiver accommodate something smaller you're also swapping out literally everything else except the trigger and grip I guess.. Not happening, AKs aren't like ARs.

It's a functional AKM, running just what you need and not much else. Personally I wouldn't run that German bake furniture because when you drop it on a rock or concrete it will chip and flake. I would have opted for a TDI lower handguard, it's mlok and one of the lightest if not the lightest lower HG as well as being vented to aid in cooling.
Get the USB cap for your light, it gives near full output versus all the other switches, those crane style plugs make lights look like they've got failing batteries. Also get the flash cap front end for your sandman.
>>
>>62862698
Interestingly enough it wasn't the end mill bits that cracked it, but rather the stress I put on it jigging it up in the vise, and the stress put on it when I tightened the panels in place and squeezed the barrel in between the backing nuts.
But yeah thanks, the idea was so that I could pull accessories off and still basically keep the EG look, and so that I could have the accessories on, the light and pressure pad, and keep the EG look.

>>62864998
Very aesthetic

>>62865191
Yeah I just kept the east german lower handguard because I like the look. I have the USB C gas cap setup on my AR. I just got it, trying it out still, but it seems decent from initial inspection. The Sandman does have the 30cal FH end cap.

>I have the USB C gas cap setup on my AR. I just got it, trying it out still, but it seems decent from initial inspection
It's great stuff, because it also retains the tail switch, so when you change shoulders you can hit it with your other thumb. Very nice AK, I like it.

Depends the situation really. My suppressor wasn't a facemount (unlike JMAC) and didn't used the muzzle face itself but the FSB. So i took a mill smooth file and shaved an extremely minimal amount of metal where the bias happened. Impossible to mess the crown up since we're not dealing with the barrel. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Even if you did had a case of facemount and therefore the barrel / muzzle face itself, grab a tiny ass file and gently file the face of the muzzle (in most cases of bad alignment it's a just a very small hotspot, you don't need to file much) and you're good to go. It's virtually impossible to mess the crown up by doing that except if you're a fucking gorilla. The crown doesn't magically extend past the muzzle face like some kind of ladder lmao.

I'm actually not too concerned with their forward and back gas routing system, so long as all those additional components, the AR gas block and the gas tube, are properly secured. My concerns with the PSA 300blk are the lack of a CHF CL barrel, and the overall long term reliability and longevity of the gun. I want real AK longevity, meaning a 60k-120k rifle. Not some bullshit 1k-3k round lifetime.
That being said I'm actually pretty confident that PSA got the gassing right, especially with a can. It isn't too difficult to do a single parameter (gas port diameter) optimization to get the gun to run reliably both supers and subs, even a wide variety of subs. I'm more concerned with the metallurgy and parts component fitment and those things that go into getting an AK to run like a top for multiple tens of thousands of rounds, vs 1k or 3k before giving up the ghost.

But fuck bro a shorty folder Krink in 300blk... And maybe that new Kono trigger.... Would be sick
>>
>>62866138
Anon says he shaved the muzzle face. In your pic you shaved the FSB thread extension
>>
>>62866842
Correct.

But as i specified even if you had a muzzle face situation i don't see how filing a little amount of metal off said muzzle FACE would fuck up the crown. Really, i don't.
>>
>>62866921
I should add : we're not talking about filing the entire muzzle face and making it shiny, let's say you have a bias with the align. rod at 3 o'clock, you file the muzzle face a bit at 3 o'clock to remove the (more than likely) spot throwing the alignment off and boom you're back in business. In a way it's a bit similar to lapping an upper, except you're doing it in a far more precise and light manner.

I don't understand your concerns about the crown in such context.

About 600, going to put it through a 2-gun match coming up with a healthy round count so that'll be a solid stress test I think. No issues so far, the usual shit associated with the PSA 5.56 AKs (misclocked barrel, extractor deformation, trunnion peening, lug wear) haven't shown up so far. I'm keeping an eye on things in the mean time, I don't have the trust for it like I do with my tranny PSA AKS-74.

Only thing I found in a video is since there are variances with 3d printing, it will probably come in heavier than the 14.4 ounces. May not be the most weight conscious choice but at the end of the day you do get something more durable.
>>
>>62879824
Yeah this guy is a gigantic faggot, but if you skip through the video you'll see him put it on a scale with a rearden mount and even shoot it under NODs. Seems decent enough for a flow through.

This is why general threads suck and were a huge mistake in 4chan's history. The strength of the BBS format is that unlike a forum, the threads get deleted eventually, so there should only be threads for things which are of current interest and continued interest. Only things of interest that have more discussion to generate can survive, and there is constant renewal. The general thread subverts this structure by keeping a zombie thread alive even when there's little/no interest. They don't even serve the purpose the advocates originally defended them with, that they concentrate discussion of hot topics, since generally with any new event ten new threads get made about it anyway. All it does is create crusty non-dynamic chatrooms full of people making duty posts to keep the thread alive. Most general threads could be replaced with a locked sticky post for any questions that get repeated enough to get annoying.

I lost this argument 15 years ago now I think, but I still gnaw the bone every once in a while.

>post a couple pics of an AK in the general dedicated to AKs
>this is a very bad thing and indicative of board degradation
Whoa dude that's *crazy*.

Anyways, krink did great in the match and PSA's rear sight is, shockingly, actually properly configured for the battle/4-500m elevations, since I could lollipop at 25 with the battle setting and hit dead on at 400 at the 4-500m setting. Still no signs of the peening/wear I'm worried about, but it was only about 300 rounds today, so rounds cound isn't quite at 1k just yet. Everything I've seen of the well-documented 5.56 AK issues has them popping up by now, so maybe this one's in the clear. There is certainly some trigger slap though.

Im building a romanian MD94 and i dont wanna SBR it. Does anyone make folding pistol braces for fixed stock AKs that arent insanely gay? Ideally a more traditional stock look like the wire folder. Ive been considering getting one of those cheek risers for the OG wire folder and putting velcro on it so its legal ish but thats still dubious and I Ideally wanna shoot this thing in some local comps, so I want it to be on the up and up. Any suggestions?

all of those are gay, at least for the build im going for. Ive landed on just pin/welding an extended 4 piece flash hider since I was gunna use one anyway and the extra inch on the extended one isnt a big deal to me.

As long as the overall quality in within spitting distance of each other, than I could go with the SLR. Having a true Russian AK has its appeals though.

Hey guys, i want to install a KNS piston in my Draco.m but can find the fucking pin. Do I need to drill it out or will a punch be fine?
>>
>>62886029
Do you have an AK to post?
>>
>>62886304
I couldn’t find it for mine and I believe (don’t quote me on this) there is a welded pin in place that was then ground flush with the rest of the bolt carrier so it would be tough to find. I just bought a WBP carrier with out piston and put my KNS on that.
>>
>>62885710
You’ll pay a premium for the SGL. From a quality standpoint the premium is not worth it over an SLR-107FR.
