I don't know if a monthly general is possible, but it's a solid thread title that seems important. Therefore it must be of great value.
So who does model kits? Share a memory of Little Anon You and a model experience. Find any cool ones lately? Have you always wanted to but never did (glue, my love)? RC is kinda the same thing and fits here.
My addition is that I was a totally incompetent modeler with nobody to talk to that cared about them or at least had inclination. I can paint well now and I've done a BMP and a beginner Lancaster I junked when I moved apartments. I figure I can do better as time goes on.
Shit's fun.

>Share a memory of Little Anon You and a model experience
Assembled an F4U model for a high school WWII project. Didn't apply enough cement where the frame meets wing and smudged a little on the cockpit. My old man spray painted it for me. Most of the details on it were the water decals. The experience was so awful, I never tried it again. I suspect the hobby will be dying soon along with the Boomers

And trains, and a shitload of classic toys, any rifles you have to do anything other than pin together. Yup it sucks. And I got mad at it for a while too.

Cool scenes for cool models.

I would love to build some scale model aircraft (especially Yukikaze kits), but I'm a filthy snapshitter.

You don't have to be an artist Anon, some things are just fun. And I watch streaming shows about rebuilding tanks and shit while I do it.
I also have a shitload of gulf war trading cards so someday I want to model one of them and make a little diorama with the card mounted. That should look nice.

>>62876231
i have a few gundam kits and macross kits i've been printing parts for to kitbash.
>>
>>62876327
I'm 43 with a 4 year old daughter, I mix stuff from my childhood with modern STEM toys. She's a builder with Legos and generic hot wheel track parts. Of course a bucket of army men.
She will likely retain interest in something like this.
>>
>>62876354
I kitbashed a Bigfoot monster truck kit (skinny wheel tractor tire version) and a 66 Corvette. It came out ok, I gave it to my young cousin. Idk if I'd do it again but battle damage tanks sound like a party. At least you can burn or explode stuff out in the yard.
>>
>>62876308
I wish model planes/tanks/trains had the same ease of building as bandai's gundam kits. Most of those, especially the modern high grades, go together so easily, almost like legos on a sprue. And they're really easy to articulate and pose, and you can kitbash really easily. They're almost action figures instead of models. Why can't they make a model tank or plane that:
>comes in colored plastic instead of grey
>has working, moving tracks, turning turrets, or spinning propellers and folding wings
>comes with decent quality waterslide decals (or high quality stickers)
>doesn't require every piece to be glued
>still looks good, has a decent scale, and has the durability to have the pose changed regularly
>>
>>62876413
I've never seen one or found one online, but God told me they exist.

I mean most Gunpla can't even pull that off...

Oh fuck Warhammer and shit too. That's modeling kinda and easy like anon wants, but you gotta paint.
I started with a harbor freight sprayer, a compressor, and a tire as a tank. But you get nice control with a tire as you can use a foot or something to pressure it. HobbyQueer or something probably has something nicer for the same price today.

Being into landscape and diorama already in this thread, coast batteries on one hand hell yes, but on the other not on their own. Could be personal taste.
And a level of kit with upgrades in box; say it's a cruiser which historically got a larger gun refit or added torpedo... sleds? (Honestly, what are deck torpedo slide mounted stand thing word salad items called?)

Model rockets (military, ICBM) would be fun if you could do mini MIRV strikes on other scale models. I'm sure it would be frowned on to even use contact tannerite explosives but still, private land is a thing.

What does warhammer have that is basically real right now? Not the fantasy stuff but is there say a tank that clearly screams "I'm a Merkava!" with token differences?

I think it's dumb that modelling is considered /toy/ and not /tg/.

Then we should kick out the mini painters because you don't play with busts (hehe) and Golden Deamon isn't a wargame either but fags keep discussing it.

Use white Elmer's glue for your canopies. Regular model glue will make them fog up. You can also soak a tooth pic in thinner and then scratch off the excess paint around your glass. Your canopies will look a lot cleaner that way (better to do it with acrylic because it comes off easier)

also don't get gloss varnish on it like I did here.

Had to give away all my paint /chemicals when I moved back from overseas and I can't be fucked to buy more.

Shit is way too expensive now. It would be like $300 to replace everything I lost
>>
>>62884338
>Elmer's glue
I used Formula 560 which is the same thing, but I think I did cover it in gloss lacquer. Boomers seen to swear by doing it.

I also paint everything by brush, not sure if I should or not. I have the money for an airbrush, just there is no place in the house to use it and the HOA bans usage of airbrushes and spray paints.

NTA but you'd have to find a Guard player to answer that.

Nice, a scale model thread.
I have been getting back into the hobby after a ~15y and then again ~3y hiatus.
Can't post pictures right now, but my next project will be an Airfix Ju-87 just to get back into it and to brush up my airbrush skills. Finished a kit I apparently started around 20/21, but it was absolute shit with lots of mistakes I now want to punch old me for. Anyhow, then I'll have a bunch of cannons, a Stug III and a 1/48 Huey I will keep for last because it's an expensive model.
>>
>>62884444
>but I think I did cover it in gloss lacquer. Boomers seen to swear by doing it
I would only do that if you spray it. It will look shit if you hand paint it on.
>>
>>62884448
I didn't come here for feels...
