/msg/ - Military Surplus GeneralInvestments EditionPost old guns, bayonets, clothes, whatever. No rules.Threadly Question: What are some Milsurp/Old Shit related youtubers you enjoy?Previous Thread: >>64353209
>>64393869>6hrs>page 8Well no updates but I guess I'll post. Next is the rear handguard. Been organizing my tools so this time I'll probably have a much easier time making it. Clip attachment may be interesting, I think I want to just go with super tiny screws rather than nails. Easier to adjust and clean that way. Need to go and get those walnuts soon if I want to stain this year and don't want to wait until next August.
>>64393348Idk if theres any based surp stores up there, havent been up that way in a long time.Id suggest saving extra, and add on a few days to your trip. Grand Teton, Yellowstone and the Bill museum can be multi-day affairs in their own right. Also, dont be a fucking tourist when youre in the parks. The speed limit is low so enjoy the scenery, dont slam the brakes to take a picture of a fucking squirrel, dont pass at mach jesus on blind double yellows and leave the wildlife alone for christs sake.If you think you want to move here, fuck off, were full. If that wont deter you, spend a couple weeks in Casper in January. If youre visiting in the fall, watch for Jackalopes. Rutting starts in mid September, and the little shits are aggressive af.Do post pics here, and maybe on /out/ for some of that sweet, sweet chemo.>t. Wyomingite
The fuck happened to the other one? Some regulars weren't getting enough personal attention or what?
>>64393869Gold is s expensive now hoy shit
Spend the 8 fucking seconds before making a new just for you thread
>>64393869>Milsurp/Old Shit related youtubers you enjoyTenacious Trilobite. Not necessarily for his videos, which are great. But also because he uses the same username across websites which means ive found his load data and posts on some of the specific guns in his youtube videos which have been helpful for my own load data/research.I know the tripfag Tennis Balls posted the cursed NASCAR Arisaka, which Trilobite did a video on. So I know its at least possible he might lurk here too.
>>64393869Austria:i had milsurp worth 70.000law changes, lefty cuckoldrynow i have milsurp worth 15.000-20.000 at best.boys, i'm pissed.
>>64396943What happened in Austria?
>>64396555yea he lurks but is more active on discord. if you ever have specific load data questions for him you can hit him up in the C&Rsenal discord server.other than the annoyance of having to clip the bullet tips for the mag to feed, the Dalesaka is extremely pleasant to shoot. love me a good .30-06 with aperture sights. its obviously lightweight and handy as well due to its massive bubbafication.
Drill for Accumount copy of m41B scope mount on an m38, y/n?https://accumounts.com/swedish-mauser.htmlAnyone has any experience with their products? Don't want to Bubba her too bad, but I feel it's more defendable since it at least is the 'original' scope configuration.
>>64393869>buying physical silverlol. lmao even.
Picked this up from my ffl today, can't wait to shoot it tomorrow.
>>64402840nice, how much did you pay for her?
>>64402857After auction fees, shipping, and transfer $475ish I think
>>64400695>yea he lurksNeat. Well let him know his vids and various posts helped me along with my Lee Navy loads and also if he has a spare original clip pls gib
>>64402879wow thats a steal
>>64402879is it a 98/48?
>>64402910yes
>>6440291998/48s are good rifles, Need to shoot mine, its been a while.
>>64402895no problem. original clips are a tall order. The only two Ive ever seen are the one I own and the one TT bought.
>>64404434>original clips are a tall order.Yea. and even so the 220 swift reloads dont fit them so its kind of meh since I dont really trim the rims down to fit.I have around 40 umc rounds I figured id try it out with but the 3 or so S&S clips I have are (rightfully and as I was forewarned) shit.Closest i've gotten so far was the table that sold me the bayonet at the Vegas show the guy said he had one, he dug around.....turned out he didnt. Big sad. Half the fun is the hunt though.
Are any of the new production m1 carbines worth my time? Are the fulton armory ones g2g assuming I dont have a fulton armpry rifle?
>>64407480I've been too lazy to mess with loads for my Lee Navy, but I do have a few original rounds>>64407510probably, for a long time they were priced at what actual WW2 guns were, but now that M1 prices have gone full retard its probably worth it to get a new one. Just make sure the commercial guns are 'milspec'. that way if it has any reliability issues you can swap in surp parts. The only no-go ones off the top of my head are the Universal M1s from the 80s
>>64402815The no digital silver
>>64408186i already have the rifle, its the magazines from fulton im asking about specifically. ive got a junk bundle from Apex but i wouldnt mind having something that actually feeds through the whole mag.
>>64408774I havent tried the Fulton armory ones. most of the ones I use are USGI surplus, I had two that wouldnt feed correctly (double feeds), i loaded them to capacity and left them on a shelf for like 2 or 3 years and they work fine now
I have a very specific question about the post Civil War, pre .45-70 days. Ive seen mention that in about 1870, Spencers were pulled out of cavilry use and replaced with .50-70 Sharps carbines. So for from like 1867-1870, the US rifle was a trapdoor in .50-70 and its carbine was a Spencer in .56-50, but then from 1870-1873 the carbine was a .50-70 Sharps. Is this correct? Would it be possible for a unit to have had percussion Sharps during the war, get them replaced with Spencer's, and then get them changed BACK to the Sharps, now cartridge converted, before going to he 1873 carbine? This isnt event taking the Navy's .50-70 Rolling Block rifles and carbines into account
>>64410097Seemingly there also were .50-70 trapdoors starting in 1870. So like, if I am a cavalry trooper in 1872, what am I getting issued?
>>64410377>So like, if I am a cavalry trooper in 1872, what am I getting issued?Dysentery
>>64410591
>>64410097>>64410377Soing some reading, it seems like the asnwer is "it depends." They were replacing the Spencer with the Sharps, but also starting trials for the Springfield and Rolling Block carbines, so you possibly could have had any of the 4 depending on what unit you were in
Posting Arisakas because the jannie of /r/arisaka permabanned me for correcting him and making the mistake of responding to his DM.

>>64414062>r/arisakainb4 "you have to go back"Nice arisakas. I know I should want one that's got the intact mum, dust cover, monopod, and aircraft sights, but I'm happy with my basic-bitch ground-mum missing-shit Type 99. Whatever gene it is that causes collecting them, I ain't got.Mausers on the other hand...
>>64414306I unironically never make any new posts there because karmawhoring is gay. I just rather help fellow collectors out and unfortunatly, new collectors congregate there. The tranny janny was malding about me saying that the rifle in question was a 22nd series ラ, not a 24th ウ like he said. He then DMed me rambling about other shit including a screenshot of a post from years ago on an account that he deleted. This fag literally kept a screenshot from almost 5 years ago. Not even sure what he was on about, but he must have been on crack/HRT.But anyways, if you are interested in a Type 99 with all of it's original accessories be very careful. There are tons of repro trash out there now and the people even less knowledgeable than the sellers are the buyers. And fake mums aren't common, but are becoming more and more common. There are a lot of put together rifles out there as well. Just be on the lookout or ask someone who knows. A good sign for an original monopods is unironically the wire being bent. Plenty aren't bent, but most seem to be.

>>64414306well good news because arisakas are mausers
>>64418171Umm, acktually, Othais says they are Nanbus now.
>>64418676this had to have been rage bait. >ok guys this is the first time I have ever touched a Japanese gun, I am now going to proceed to correct everyone on the topic.
>>64420146Yeah, idk what is up with him now. Nambu did the changes to the Type 38, but I'm pretty sure he was not involved with the Type 99 and there were a lot of changes for it. Arisaka is a better descriptor since it's a family of guns.Changing Nambu to Nanbu is even worse. He really shouldn't be changing names when he doesn't even speak the language lol.
>>64397723a little comubine happened when an ego shooter school drop out aspie neet shot up his former school.now its "never let a crisis go waste time" for gubbment.although we had an army psychologist who said that guy is to crazy for the draft, but a gun licence psychologist said he can have guns... now laws must be tightened, but no psychologist got fired. the usual bullshit.they killed my fav. ice cream too, fucking ice cream niggers

Those of y'all who hunt with surps, I've got a question- how do you do it in the very early mornings and or late afternoons/evenings, when it's starting to get dark out? I feel like irons get worse much faster than optics as it gets darker, but I also wanna take my P14 hunting this season, and I'm wondering if there are any tips or tricks
>>64428522Just depends on where you are hunting at and if the sun is giving you enough light. I shot a deer with a garand and I was only able to see it just enough to get a good shot but if I had been in another spot on my property it could've been even easier or it could've been a lot harder. (I will say having the aperture sights helped a lot, I don't know if I would've taken the shot if I had Mauser style iron sights)As for tips not really much you can do for eyesight besides keep your eyes well adjusted to the light in your surroundings. Won't be able to see much if you have a flashlight on and try to shoot something a few minutes later

>>64393869>>64396943Treating milsurp as any sort of investment beyond it being something that will simply hold its value if you want to sell/trade it as you curate your collection is cringe. I say that as someone relatively wealthy with $100,000+ in guns. They're such a low yield medium that only poors regard it as a worthwhile investment opportunity. Money is great for paying the bills and helping you further your goals in life, but any hobby profiteering touches sucks the soul and fun out of it. If you love milsurp, you shouldn't treat it in such a way. I love my guns enough that if they devalue to pennies because of loss of demand or laws preventing me from selling them, I won't care, and it won't affect my investment portfolio.
Is there any good documentation whatsoever on the Breda Model 30? The receiver in this horrendous looking parts kit has a marking suggesting refurbishment in 1938, but there doesn't seem to be any information about this at all online. Or for the Regia Marina guns. Or the Costa Rica contract.
