I want a .22LR pistol to practice target/bullseye shooting with and use for general plinking. Should I get a MKIV 22/45, a .22LR 1911, a .22LR revolver, something else?

I'm leaning toward a MKIV 22/45 right now, but have been considering a .22LR 1911 pretty heavily too but am sure a MKIV is more consistent which will be important when I start to get tighter groups.

TX22 has about double the capacity, a healthy aftermarket, and a frt out now. The ruger is more accurate, but the tx22 is already pretty damn good for accuracy and is more reliable than any other 22lr I've tried. Both are good options, just up to your preferences.

Honestly striker and hammer both have their benefits and downsides.
>>
>>64409552
The Model 41 is an all-time great target pistol, the 2206 etc. are interesting oddities, and the Victory is a decent competitor to the Mk IV, particularly stock v. stock. The boomers in my bullseye league mostly shoot old High Standards with a few Model 41s mixed in, the rich dudes shoot Feinwerkbau or Walther GSP, and the casuals (including me) mostly use Rugers. Various flavors of S&W pre-17, 17, 617 revolvers also show up sometimes but usually struggle in rapid fire.
>>
>>64409605
What barrel length did you get? River revolvers are solid.

>>64409617
*ruger
>>
>>64409617
6 inch. So not the longest but its nice. The ruger revolvers are solid from what I heard.

.22 1911 kits can be a nightmare to get working but sometimes they work well. Marks are great, but so's a TX22! A regular TX22 will be less accurate than a Mark is capable of, but a TX22 Competition is about the same, with 16 round capacity, cheap mags, optic mount, threaded barrel and a better trigger out of the box (though a Mark can be made better with parts)
>>
>>64408629
>>64409665
.22 guns are fun and cheap to shoot. So good for training aim. They're so underrated. I even find a strong air gun good for practicing with scoped rifles without breaking the bank.
>>
>>64409665
Apologize for what you said about anime.
>>
>>64409639
A hammer fired gun is also fine for urban carry but concealability is key and thus unless you can find a M9 Compact or as I discovered today, a Jericho 941 RS9 which is about almost the same size as a Glock 19, a Glock 19 will be your best bet
>>
>>64409751
>but concealability is key
Thats what I mean. For concealing a gun, I find there are not a lot of good hammer options that provide the same ammo capacity in a compact. ergonomic package as some striker fired options.
>>
>>64409665
I'm not really concerned about capacity, since it's not like I'm going to carry it, just shoot targets and sometimes cans and steel with my ample reserves of .22LR. I am surprised to hear that a TX22 competition would be as accurate as a fixed barrel gun like a MKIV though, how is that? I have seen that you're a big fan of that pistol in past posts though.

I'm not letting this thought disappear on me.
"Pistol caliber" bullets are memes. The only reason anyone uses them is because they can't get to a long gun when they need one.
In a life-or-death scenario, you don't have the luxury of being able to fire the entire magazine. Common wisdom says you get up to three shots, so the ideal should be a double/triple-barreled, rifle-caliber pistol with a fast-burning powder behind it.
Rossi's gun only has one barrel. If it had multiple, would it be able to run revolvers out of the market?
>>
>>64409780
No, because revolvers capable of shooting rifle rounds are a thing.

>>64409776
Because unlike the regular TX22 or T.O.R.O. or Compact, the Competition's optic is bolted directly onto the barrel so that slide and barrel slop doesn't factor into accuracy. It's not THE MOST accurate .22 pistol I have, that's probably my CP33, but it's about on par with my Mark

Sharing my experience, while I know most Marks are plenty reliable, mine is definitely not. My TX22s run circles around it in reliability, by about half an order of magnitude, and my TX22s are not magazine-sensitive where my Mark very much is
>>
>>64409797
The only one I've seen match .300 blackout for power is 480 Ruger, and that costs about 3-4x as much as one Brawler.
>>
>>64409816
Even if it's a 3 shot cylinder, it's the same price for capacity.
>>
>>64409820
I missed your meaning there.
>>
>>64409827

By doing what? Lengthening the case and pouring more powder in?
This is a matter of both cost and performance. With how much a BFR costs, a "multi barrel monstrosity" may be a more efficient choice.

I've been carrying hammer guns for years, but I'm going to try striker since I have an obsession with finding a pocket carry that can be as similar as possible to my main carry. Striker guns are the only ones that can do that unless you go with an Officer 1911 or Sig P938 which are questionable. You can easily acquire a pocket-sized subcompact Glock and a compact or fullsize Glock that are nearly the exact same guns in terms of ergos, trigger feel, and controls.
>>
>>64409802
What's the most accurate non-.22 you have

Wasted potential doesn't mean it's not more powerful than .38 or .38 +P - just not as powerful as it can be. Yeah, every round will get more power using a longer barrel (up to a point). Even newgunz know this. But a typical .357 magnum carry load is significantly more powerful than a typical .38 +P carry load out of even a 2" barrel.

I swear, the .357 vs .38 snubby ballistics debate is like the breakfast question but for gun guys

It absolutely does hurt, I'd say it recoils more than a typical airweight even with 38 special, and 357 is absolutely brutal. Especially with stock grips that expose metal frame in the back. It might be bad enough that it doesn't just hurt but is actually harmful and may give you carpal tunnel.
>>

I managed to shoot an airweight 78 times with +P .38 special and my hand was fucked up and bleeding from the gun violently flipping in my hand into my thumb and webbing. .357 magnum even in a full steel snub is gonna suck. First try at a “French Fit” case as a gift. Whole thing was like $20 in materials, got everything at a Michaels.
Premade wood craft box ~$8
Yard of dark red felt ~$3
Tacky Glue ~$4
Some stain I had lying around
Styrofoam from a TV box.
Took me probably 3 hours mostly holding down glue. Could be much better but it’s nice enough for this dainty bedside piece.
>>
>>64410479
I prefer a USP to a P30L. Yes, the P30L has a better rail and ergos, but it's ugly.

Tell me /k/omrads, what hk has the least recoil?
I prefer the Lem trigger and paddle release but they seem to have what I would consider excessive recoil for 9mm, at least my p30 did, sold it for that and the trigger (v3) was awful and I couldn’t group wise it at all.
My hk45 with Lem is much better. Can I get a heavier recoil spring for it to reduce the recoil? When I bought it I shot a rental hk45 that had significantly less recoil then mine, I think the rental was a German made one and mine is American made so it has lighter springs to shoot our lower power range ammo.
Thanks.

this guy, but .40 makes a bit of sense, I could do a .357 sig conversion for my "hand cannon" project but my target round for hand cannon is .40 Super and this ammunition, the hollow point loses all pedals in the first 12 inches and then the core punches to 16 inches. 135 gr at 1800 fps

NTA but the MK23 is a gun that shouldn't be in production, a US SOCOM fever dream "offensive" handgun. Comparing it to a desert eagle is pretty stupid since the grip is the same size as the USP .45 grip, the crew served handgun memes were created by children who never held one or if they did, an airsoft one. It's a large handgun but not really that much larger than a 2011 or 1911 really

Just because you type out some old garbage doesn't make it true. This isn't your gender studies class. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the older guns. The only reason they moved to the all milled slide was to handle the high pressure meme calibers like .40 S&W and .357 SIG and it is more efficient to have a single production method.
You really shouldn't believe all the Fudd lore you read on reddit.

or even most 1911s it's just luck of the draw of as to whether or not its little machine spirit is going to be happy. Kimber is expensive enough that people will bitch about it online where as with a Tisas or whatever they are more likely to just chalk it up to you get what you pay for. I can't count how many guy I've seen ITT sending Nighthawks and shit back for warranty work.

It does, the tlr as well.

Well, then carry a Glock and buy other guns because they look cool or have neat mechanisms or whatever. You are allowed to own and enjoy more than one gun. I mean in most states, anyway.
>>
>>64413838
I’m the guy with all those 1911s, I’m 3 for 3 for having issues with my Nighthawks. 2 of them had to be sent in for warranty work and one of them twice now. The other one had the extractor tension set too low.

The MIMber has one failure to feed and one light strike in 400 rounds. I never lubed it so that could be the failure to feed. I’ve fired a mix of 230 gr and 200 gr +P out of it

Honestly? Probably eBay if you really know what you are looking for otherwise Numrich. Maybe Brownells.

Well, at least you can take that off.
J/K, it's a solid light, but the switch is very easy to activate. That's not really a problem for 99.8% of people. Does it include a holster? I think you are on the right track, but the holster would seal the deal. Any mags or other extras you could get him to throw in?

Lol jk. Did you ever get them running well? It's my experience that 1911s are like old hot rods, they take a lot of work to keep the running well, but it can definitely be worth it.
>The MIMber has one failure to feed and one light strike in 400 rounds.
That's not too serious, especially with a variety of ammo. Like I said, sometimes you just get one with a happy little machine spirit. Sounds like you got one. That's pretty sweet.

The other two run very well.

My favorite one, because it shoots 10mm so well with the wafered bull barrel, is back at nighthawk since the slide stop keeps prematurely engaging. I think it’s just engaging under recoil forces by itself, I see no interference with the follower and the slide stop leg. The first time I had to send it back was the slide stop leg was too long (9mm length?) and kept getting hit by the top incoming round while cycling and engaging. This time it’s just doing it by itself.

My Dan Wesson 10mm has the same issue, did it rarely with 1100 fps ammo but constantly does it with 1200 fps.

I considered everything from a classic to the 432 UC but the reported smith quality lottery isn't appealing, and the SDRs look really well made. The only good smith I ever owned was an older 629-5.

Bruh, I remember that from almost a year ago...
Anyway, can you get stronger springs for that safety/slide stop plunger mechanism? Maybe drill .005" out of the pocket the plunger rests in? I've seen those plungers installed backwards, too. I guess let them deal with it since you paid so much for them.
What's the TRP Operator gun?

Main issue with SA35 for a lot of people has been the extractor breaking, but it also doesn't affect every single one
People seem to also say that they don't like the trigger reset, and how solid the safety detent spring is
So my plan would be to replace the extractor itself and a lot of the springs, in order to prevent any future issues and make it feel more solid
There seem to be multiple companies that do sell kits for many Hi Power clones, but there are a whole lot of them so I am wondering if anyone knows which one would be the best

I tried that, but it’s honestly not my problem to fix, it’s nighthawk’s. The slide stop engaging by itself under recoil is not the slide stop being too loose under the detent, it’s the barrel lock up that’s the problem. My other nighthawk, a .45, has this issue about 4/1000 rounds and I sent it back. The work order noted that the smith adjusted the barrel lugs to fix it.

The TRP is my first 2011 build, .45, it ran 150 rounds no issue feeding. I got a nighthawk trigger cassette on sale for 200 bucks which started performing weirdly, the pull would change weight every time I disassembled the gun, the gun sometimes would have hammer follow and in one case dumped the entire mag - fed great for full auto. I was planning on having it optic cut and dlc finished so nighthawk is fixing their trigger unit (or rather it’s my gun that’s the issue) and optic cut/dlc finished also fixing the retardedly huge gap in the ejector tunnel. That’s probably why the slides were old stock surplus - no ejector I could find would fill the space. I didn’t clean the gun 110% before firing so my face got sprayed with some metal shavings which drew some blood

Yeah, an owb holster and a couple mags. Sounds like the move then, thanks.

Thanks for explaining that. If it were me, I'd probably get the gun and see how it feels and address the issues I thought needed improvement. IDK how long the extractor thing has been an issue, but most companies are pretty quick to fix stuff like that since the gun market is some picky motherfuckers. I'd still buy an extra extractor and throw it in the box, but I wouldn't replace it until it breaks.
Just looking around YT really quick, this looks like it might be pretty cool, but it's your gun and you are the one that needs to like it.

I didn’t know Apex made full videos for install, cool
I do like the look of that new hammer
I might do a combo of different companies to get each individual part I want, I noticed that BH Spring Solutions also has a spring-specific kit, and then maybe I could get the other larger parts from somewhere else
I will probably get a feel for the pistol first for what I actually want to replace with the springs
But to me, the extractor seems pretty essential
You’re right, it is an issue that SHOULD be fixed pretty quick
but the SA-35 came out 4 years ago and people are still having issues, and then Springfield says they want the pistols to be sent to them for the repair
https://youtube.com/watch?v=WGc4qk3LS-s
It might not affect mine, but it affects both old and new guns so there’s no way to know until it happens
>>
>>64414275
That sounds like a good plan. I have never done a build with parts all from one company. As far as Apex goes, I have never been disappointed with one of their triggers. But I like the SA-35 for it's old school look and the flat trigger messes with that, but I bet it is totally worth it for actually shooting the ting instead of just looking at it.
Also, IDK how 1:1 the SA-35 is, but Cylinder and Slide has a fuck ton of Hi-Power parts and everything they sell is top notch. I didn't even think of that. I bet you can find whatever you need there.
