How do I raise my accuracy at a distance? I can make a fist sized group at 5 yards but at 10 I'm all over a 12"x18" target. Should I work on tightening up my groupings at closer range then bumping up a yard and repeating, or should I just stick to 10 yards and work on my accuracy at that distance?
>>
>>64973999
>da pulls only
Easy, shoot it from single action.
>>
>>64973999
Are you dry firing? You have a DA/SA, you can dry fire the DA pull all day without having to reset the trigger like a SA or other action. Your sights should not move at all as you pull the trigger, I know that’s hard and I myself drop DA shots low or horizontally at speed, but slowly pulling the trigger you should be able to do it.

Sure, yeah. Collector Design Werks is the more authentic Samurai Edge grip, but if you're going for something that's just your own taste or style, DS Grips is fine. He had trouble in the past (like 12 years ago) getting orders out on time, but I've had a good relationship with him since then. I've even gotten free and discount grips from him when my order wasn't correct. I wouldn't order any grips that you want to appear as wood, though. He uses a material called Richlite, which is like paper and resin. Sounds dumb, but they've proven to be pretty durable. They just won't ever appear to be actual wood. I'm guessing you'd want black or dark gray for the Umbrella look though.

>Are you dry firing?
I am and I can definitely tell it's helping. I definitely feel far more consistent than my last range trip three weeks ago, and only ten of those shots were DA pulls.
>Your sights should not move at all as you pull the trigger
Yeah, I need a lot more practice. My sights are more stable than when I started but watching my front sight still makes me feel like I've got the shakes.

>>64974011
Yeah, that would definitely help. My big thing this range day was getting used to a thumbs down grip with actual fire, and practicing DA shots since I carry hammer down safety on.
>>
>>64974038
I ordered from him a long while ago and can confirm what both SEG and the guy's website say.
There were communication and schedule issues and the grips were a step down from what Collector Design Werks sells. But he seemed like an earnest fella and said he changed how he builds them a few years ago.

>>
>>64974135

PROTIP: if you own a gun over a year without negligent discharging at least once, you aren't handling it enough. NDs are a natural part of handling weapons, just like tweaking your back is part of weightlifting and car accidents are part of driving. I ND several times a year because I actually HANDLE and know how to USE my weapons. It makes me a better firearms handler and marksman, and it's a small part of the price you pay in the sheepdog lifestyle. Simple fact is, the "safety mentality" will build mental blocks in your head that will get you killed. You need to be comfortable putting your finger on the trigger and pointing the gun wherever you want no matter the time, place, or status of the weapon. Taking time to check whether the gun is loaded whenever you pick one up will serve to make you hesitate in a personal defense scenario. You fucking safety idiots are going to get people killed all because of this fucking "ND" shaming. Guns are inherently dangerous, you need to accept it.

So I have a question for anybody well versed in revolvers. Are the old Colt designs, like the Official Police model here, really that bad when it comes to going out of time? Also, should I get one of these or an S&W Model 10 of I wanted an old revolver in .38?

Before this, I owned a Bodyguard 2.0 from S&W. This thing blows S&W BG 2.0 out of the water. My groupings are better, it's more fun to shoot, and it's easier to clean. Pic is my Glock 19.6 right after I got done cleaning the internals after maybe 500 rounds.

Very good stuff. I can't wait till my holster arrives. I have my concealed handgun permit (CHP in my state) basically going through the queue right now. I want to carry my Glock 19 daily but it prints like insane amounts.

I love it. Only problem is one mag does hold it open after the last round but I'm positive it's the spring or the spring and Floyd base plate. No issues. I'm not extremely proficient but it's as accurate as I am at 15yds. I have the Apex carry kit and it is really nice. I am debating between getting the 9 compact and a P01 for carrying when the time comes. Skipping metal since it's just aluminum for the compact.

Beretta APXA1 RDO/Tactical comes with suppressor height sights, threaded barrel, and 3 20 round mags. It has a 100 dollar rebate or 200 dollar instore credit (Beretta accessories like mags and holsters).

https://gun.deals/product/beretta-apx-a1-tactical-od-green-9mm-48-barrel-21-rounds-44999
Says you can get one for 450-480 dollars, which with the 100 dollar rebate is 350 dollars.

Will do. I spent $2k, it has an accessory rail and the AOS optic system which I think is new so I know it’s a new model TRP. Maybe not the best deal but I felt like it was a descent price for the features and it being a new model.
>>
>>64974733
if youre smart your options are pretty much glawk and the "I cant believe its not glawk" (M&P9 or PDP)
If you really dont want a striker gun Jericho 941s are super cheap right now and police trade in 92fs and p22Xs are still semi-reasonable.
I occasionally see oddballs like the FN509 too.
If price is the issue just get something like a shield or a p365xl and deal with the fact that small form factors suck to shoot
>>
Between the M&P 2.0 texture and the Springfield 1911 TRP with its 20 LPI checkering, I’ve come to appreciate really rough textured handguns that hurt to hold. What’s the most painful gun to grip tightly?
>>
>>64974867
Looks like they're mostly sticking to black/blued metal.

I might want to cerakote mine eventually but I'm also a sucker for dark metal.
>>
>>64974875
I have the same gun in the Coyote Brown. It’s a great gun, but being an actual decent expensive 1911, it has a break-in of about 500-600 rounds. Make sure you keep it clean and lubed really good. Don’t worry if you get a lot of failures to feed for the first 500 rounds. It’s a combination of the cerakote not working well with the hand fitting, thus prolonging the break in, and the cheap Mac Gar magazines it comes with.

You’re eventually going to want to upgrade to some Wilson Combat magazines.

I would have sprung for a USP over the m&p and p01 but it isnt on the CA roster, so I'm shit out of luck.

only thing I dislike about the m&p is the stupid recessed glock style slide release. if it's as stiff as a glock it's gonna feel like shit
>>
>>64975874
I have the 45 full size 1.0, and it loosens up a ton after a while. I don't go shooting nearly enough, but it's zero effort to release the slide now, and it isn't difficult at all to hit.

It does stick out a little from the frame, so I wouldn't call it recessed but it would be cooler if it were a bit of a different design.
>>64975886
I'm not entirely into the idea of optics on a pistol I intend to carry, but after a bit theres a good chance that would change! M&P has an optic cut, but it would be cool having a premium compact.
>>
>>64975921
Ah I didn't know you were looking for a carry gun. The usp could be an ok choice but it's definitely a full size gun. Also you definitely don't need a dot on a carry gun, you should get good with irons either way
>>
>>64975836
If you get the CZ get it in tan to larp as the German military since they just adopted it. M&P probably better though
>>64975874
The stiffness of the slide release is purely from new mags lol. I used to think this too but there is nothing getting "broken in" other than a new mag, the gun remains the same. You can see this as the spring that actuates the slide release is super light. M&Ps have a little better slide releases vs a Glock as they slope out more, but they are still a little hard to use. A little practice and it's no big deal

I like S&W's basic three-dot sights.

The capacity is about the same as a p365, which is impressive. I guess it's basically a p365 with a better trigger, essentially.

Should I be concerned it appears to be "leaking" (see pic related) some CLP? I swear I was deliberate in not putting too much on there.

Gotcha, gotcha. Is that normal to be be "too wet internally" after a clean? Or did I REALLY use too much CLP?

The RSO and I at my range are very cool so when there's no business he pops apart my gun and shows me stuff. He said I did good, but I did put a little bit around the extractor, just not IN the extractor. Maybe that....

>>
>>64976737
It's normal if you use CLP as all-in-one product. If you don't like extra lube settling on all surfaces that don't wear, you can actually clean it off with paper towels, qtips or patches, after applying it. You can even remove CLP completely after cleaning and instead lubricate just the wear surfaces with gun oil from an oiler that doesn't spray (barrel lockup areas, side rails, trigger bar, manual has lube points). That way everywhere else is dry.
>>
>>64976710

I've got a bum shoulder so I need something I can use for more than 30 mins at the range before it's killing me.
I've had luck with the s&w shield ez, and the m&p 57, but I've recently held a few older 90s hammer fired guns and found their handles were way more comfortable than anything I've held from today.
I have long fingers and a kind of big hand, so I think part of my issue is smaller guns (like glock48) are killing my shoulder in part because I just can't get a lot of surface contact, while the thicker handles let me hold it better.

Between those 3, I performed the best with the 57, then the shield ez, then the Glock48. But the shoulder strain was lightest on the shield, then the m&p57.
Is there another gun I should be looking at, given these parameters?
I'd prefer a gun I could put an optic on, which is my main worry for the shield ez, but I think they make a similar one (equalizer?) which shouldn't have the same optics problems the shield has.

So it has a flat side to let it get a bit closer to the frame of the gun and that dies aid in loading, however due to the nature of the release, a push button long enough that the rounds float above the chambers of the cylinder, I think this is mostly a range toy.

Because of the length of the release, the cylinder can be misaligned with the rounds even if the loader is correctly lined up. It works best with my SP101, but it's pretty cool desu. It comes with stuff to make it a single loader, a double loader, or a triple loader (out of the box it comes in triple form). I'd say it's worth just to make loading easier.

Yes. You have a revolver so dryfire practice is super easy and will smooth out your trigger some so do it a shit ton till your fingers get stronger and your gun gets smoother. I also know how to open them up and do a gunsmith trigger job rather than the YouTube special of just replacing springs and calling it a trigger job. I open up and stone all my revolvers smooth and generally also put in a lighter trigger return spring to lower pull weight, but keep hammer spring at full power. It makes a HUGE difference. Like night and day.

>>64977549
Looks like you can just turn the cylinder and they fall in. They are fed by gravity and the weight of the rounds behind them so its not difficult at all.

Nice! That's exactly what you want to do, Dryfire and reload practice. What revolver did you get? As you can see, I prefer small frames so I have the comp 1s as my preferred speed loaders from Safriland. Check out ZetaSix. Hey there! I'm interested in getting a revolver, and I was wondering what lube (if any) to use for internal parts. Are you supposed to use a wet lube or dry lube?

>>
>>64977622
Nice. I want to get a gp100, and it's nice to know there are simple improvements that can be done. I just want a revolver.
>>
>>64977722
You can use either. Theoretically, dry lube would be better for a pocket gun since oils tend to grab lint and pull them inside, but for a bigger gun, wet works better since it is much easier to apply. You kinda have to open the gun up to properly apply dry lube and if you don't know what you're doing, you probably shouldn't try that. I would recommend regular wet lube for like 98% of people out there. Only truly autistic revolverfags like me should bother with dry lubing a revolver's internals.

>>
>>64977752
That's a good choice. GP100 is a great gun. Treat it like a finger exerciser for a week and it'll smooth out a lot. (You won't notice at first because your finger will be sore from all the working out its been doing by that point.) After that you could get a lighter trigger return spring. With Ruger DA revolvers, the trigger return is pretty easy to get to so it's not a huge ordeal to lighten you trigger a little after you've dry fired the shit out of it. If you decide to get one and decide that you want to change the trigger return spring, I'd be happy to guide you through it. You could probably figure it out on your own, but it can sometimes help to have someone thats done it a few times guiding you. I can even make little webms if you need video examples and can't find good video on YouTube. Just make sure it's me and not some random trying to get you to break something. I take pics and videos from my ranch oak desk so ask to see it if you want to make sure its me since I dont use a trip. Pic related one of my drawers full of guns and gun accessories.

There isn't enough room for both so the extended chamber indicator remains to keep it California compliant along with the magazine disconnector which is a more complex to manufacture. The cuck model deviates from the factory spec so it's priced worse to compensate for the additional cost like how women's razors are more expensive because the standard design for men isn't suitable for thinner / softer skin

It may be one of a kind. They made at least four quite different designs trying to fish out which one might be worthwhile for production of an inexpensive replacement for the P38. They made 2-3 of the first type, a 2-3 of the third type and several of the fourth and final type but possibly only one of the second type (that one). One of the third type sold at auction for $74,000 so 108 kilobucks for a rarer version of an already extremely rare prototype isn't out of this world

One thing I always see reported with budget optics is that the tolerances can be pretty iffy, seen more than a couple people talk about with multiple brands is screw threading cut incorrectly/oversized and not engaging correctly so stuff just works it way loose on them.

Yep! I did some random shit to mine, but it's still a M&P at heart. Apex duty/carry kit, Floyd magwell and base plates for an extra round here in CA, a 2.0 striker, extended magazine release, and a striker spring retaining cup with small channels to prevent hydrolock just because. All that and I still need better sights, fuck me.

Since you're working on DA/SA, try some 2" circles at close range. Like 9'. Double tap each circle, once DA once SA. Once you can clear like 10 in a row you should have learned good grip, trigger control and sight alignment.

Irons will never go out of style. I figure the next big development in a decade or two will be a micro prism that's the same size and price range as handgun red dots, and it'll be marketed for no batteries and astigmatism friendly.
>>
>>64979629
That would be my dream. Haven't found a dot that I like yet from the astigmatism. My fucked up eyes make even the nice expensive ones look like the emitter is broken. Green dot only helps marginally. All my rifle optics are etched/prism because of it.

The “you’re not shooting fast enough or far enough” applies to every shooter to be honest, but dots are a game changer. Instead of lining up two things (front and rear) you just need to put the dot on target.
>>
>>64979690
Wait you need to align front and rear sight and the target, so 3 things. While a dot is only between the red dot and the target

Shoot smaller strings of fire so you can more accurately distinguish between shots, you should call your shots so you guess where each round went like “I pulled that low or left” instead of being surprised where it went

Tighter at 7/8 should be your goal, you don’t necessarily need to shoot farther if your groups can still improve. To give you motivation, laser beam anon can put 5 rounds into the same hole at 7 yards

10 seconds to shoot 5 rounds should be a start (set timer for 15 seconds, wait until you see 10 to actually start shooting). A shot timer is more useful when you’re trying to shoot multiple rounds in a second.
>>
>>64980007
Damn! I appreciate the advice anon. I think I just try to hit center mass and generally end up doing alright. I'm gonna have to pick targets that have more distinguishing features, like four bullesyes across the target instead of one human-shaped target.

>Shot timer
Any phone apps you use or should I buy an actual mechanical shot timer?
>>
>everything I want is made by HK
The only thing I don’t like about this is that I’m going to look like a weird brand loyalist fag if I fill my gun wall with HKs.

>>
>>64980000
If you want a classic one
>92FS or M9 (I suggest the m9 due to the military markings being better looking)
If you want modern
>92X RDO or LTT Elite (non LTT, so no trigger job but it’s like 700-800 bucks instead of 1000).
If you want a resident evil clone
>92 Brigadier
If you want to be retarded
>92Xi, 92 GTS (frame safety or frame level models, pants on head retarded but they’re cheaper since nobody actually wanted them).
If you want a really heavy one made of steel (the rest are aluminum)
>92X Performance (beretta is clearing out the old models right now, instead of 1200 they’re 800 bucks or so + have a rebate on them).

Name is awful. Gun is SUPERB. It was my first handgun and owned gun. The G19.6 is my second handgun/owned gun.

Pros
>Shoots like a larger-sized handgun (not even kidding)
>Chambered for .380 auto, so ammo isn't hard to get
>Conceals better than the G19.6 and honestly better than most I think
>Super easy for new shooters and veteran shooters (though it's a subcompact so I've found my gf struggles to rack the slide)
>Manual safety if you want that. This was important to me when I was purchasing; now it's not
>Can take a red dot optic
>Standard 10-round mag, also includes a 12-round mag in the box without too much lipping
>Tritium iron sights was a nice touch as a Glock owner lol
>Safety trigger

Cons
>Hilariously small, so if you want a more reliable gun, or a gun chambered for a more common cartridge, no go
>Name is ass, agreed
>I can't mount a light or laser for my tacticool larping
>Tight body so it can be hard for newer shooters to operate outside of pulling the trigger

Actually I recommend it as well. DESU if I wasn't training with my Glock 19 gen 6 so much I'd daily-carry the BG 2.0 purely because it conceals SO much better.

I got these targets off Amazon for 25 cents each (100 pack), but I don’t like them since red rings versus a red dot is confusing to shoot at speed.

Your standard phone timer should work for “shoot 5 rounds in 5/10/15” seconds type of training but if you actually looking to track “split times” that is the time between each shot you’d need a shot timer. Shooter Global GO is the one I have and I like it a lot since it has a phone app to program different drills and stores statistics.

HK satisfies my DA/SA, manual safety, and decocker autism in a modern semi-automatic, and it's reassuring to know they'll survive whatever I'll personally put them through. They're built to survive Beatcop Bubba and GI Gruntsman abuse, so even if I were to forget to clean them for a couple of range trips I'm still basically babying the thing.

I dry fire, no joke, like 2-3 hours a day. I just always have my glock, no ammo in it. Practicing breathing, trigger pulls, posture, grip, etc. I just dun wanna get an optic. I'm aware it's a 10x for sighting and accuracy but I just like the irons.

Seems excessive. My EDC cycles through two guns and I take 30 minutes in the morning for draw/presentation/trigger press (50 reps per gun) and 30 minutes of just dry firing in the evening (50 reps per gun).

It probably is. I just like holding the glock and practicing with my little laser rounds. I'm unironically seeing drastic improvements each range trip.

I like small guns and the BG2.0 is the best small gun, hands down. Nothing else this size remotely compares, nothing. Love pocket pistols, but they're almost entirely trash. Closest competitor to the BG2.0 is the LCP Max and comparing them 1:1 is a fucking joke, the LCP Max is hot garbage by comparison, only saving grace is they cost $200 now. God damn I love the BG2.0.

If your friend wants 9mm have him get the 365, otherwise the smaller package is the Bodyguard 2.0. Only downside is that its really more a pocket pistol so getting a holster is harder if he wants one, if he just wants an easy IWB gun then the 365 is better.
