They watched the points of light in their multitudes. A falling star.
'Night like this deserves an ode.'
'Yup. Pretty pretty night.'
'Roll us one there, Bud.'
Bud rolled two smoke in that drawn out way he had. No concern for the passing of time. He put them both in his mouth and lit them. No concern for the passing of time.
'You gonna smoke both, Bud?'
Bud handed me one. We rode out to the hills above the highway and watched the eyes of eighteen wheelers and town cars passing below them. From this distance they moved all in silence. When the smokes burnt our fingers we ashed them on the side of our boots and stuffed the butts into our pockets.
'No need to leave a trace,' said Bud.

We rode to the river weir and the big dam and the pump house. In the early hours of the morning we walked the horses back to the barn and watered them. We walked with light steps into the big house and up to our rooms. My phone was charging by the bed. I checked my tinder; I watched porn; I dreamt of being born in a better time.

He did it first. No one else was world building an entire world after a world war like he was. He did it first and he did it like no one else did. That's it, OP. That's the secret.
>>
>>24647444
Thanks for proving my point. You simply can't understand the beauty of a simple, yet powerful and sincere core message because you are blinded by your hatred for Christianity.
>>
>>24647446
Why do people still care today then? Sure that could get you popular but there've been many settings that are objectively more interesting versions of the same thing since, yet people even in current year still care about tolkien?
>>
>>24647416
on atmosphere alone, no other writer of fantasy is comparable to Tolkein. there is a melancholic, mythic, ancient tinge to his book's sum, even if the constituent parts are, when inspected, found to be lacking. while GRRM has surpassed Tolkien by near almost every metric, his work still stinks of Europa and the near East, and its so through familiarity its gestalt effect is somehow less so, despite being incomparably more advanced in characters, dialogue, sensory minutiae, and plot intricacies. in summary: i abhor literary analysis, and especially literary comparisons.
>>
>>24647450
Because no modern fantasy writer has produced a work that is actually better written and more compelling than LOTR. Nobody really cares about the setting itself. Tolkien was simply a very good writer who wrote a timeless classic set in a fantasy world. Modern fantasy writers can't do that, because they don't have the talent for it. They can maybe come up with more interesting settings, intricate and convoluted magic system, twists and subversions of expectations around every corner that you may deem as "interesting", but what they can't do is write a good novel.

I can't tell if you're joking, sarcasm doesn't really translate to text but the rate of profit and middle class have been shrinking for decades at this point
>>
>>24646336
>decouples work from material goods
That's how capitalism destroys itself, the rate of profit shrinks over time. Automated factories won't magically delete themselves when capitalism ends
>>
Every prediction Marx made has come true, except for the revolution.
Why is this? Is the proletariat just retarded? Or do we have to wait 2 more weeks?
Or perhaps, Marx was wrong, and class consciousness does not naturally permeate as a result of the material conditions of the working class.
What do you think, anon?
>>
>>24647405
Marx's treatment is incomplete. He understood material conditions but possessed only a nascent understanding of the cultural-psychoanalytic component. The natural emergence of CC can be seen in the early labor movement which is best interpreted as an unprecedented self-organizing effort by the workers themselves, unanticipated by capitalists, and thus highly successful. The degree of social engineering that has since developed seeks to psychically castrate the proletariat at ever greater intensities. Proletarian publications have diminished and "word of mouth" communication is now facilitated on a small few platforms all of which are dominated by capitalists or their representatives in government.

>What is Web Novel General?
A general for readers and authors involved or interested in the growing phenomenon of 'web novels', serialized English fiction posted to websites such as: Royal Road, Webnovel, Scribblehub, Wattpad, Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles, HFY, various personal author websites, and more

>Why read web novels?
Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues. If you enjoy having millions of words to sink your teeth into to get to know the world and characters, though, you may be interested. Keeping up with other readers on a weekly basis to discuss the story's events unfolding is another perk, in the same way discussing an ongoing TV show might be.

>Why write web novels?
Ease of access & potential for Patreon earnings. Many successful authors gain an audience on their website of choice and funnel their readers into a Patreon. See graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators/writing for an idea of what some are earning.
Also, once an author has earned a fanbase, transitioning into an Amazon self-publishing career is several orders of magnitude easier than starting 'dry'.

>But muh publishing industry discrimination
They're businesses, if le cishet white males were buying books written by cishet white males they would be publishing them. Literary fiction is the domain of women and queers.
>>
The big guys like Franzen and Lethe were batting on about how few women writers there were and the injustice of straight white men ruling literature and campaigned for representation of women and had them as MC’s in their own fiction. Little did he know that women have been the only ones studying literature at university for 30 years and they introduced wokeness and pushed out all the SWM. look at the best novels of last year lists, if theirs a white guys he’s gay.

They are playing video games and stream on twitch

You think you're just clicking on some pics, getting a quick dopamine hit. But you're not, you're plugging yourself into a machine that was literally built to turn women into walking holes and punching bags. The word "pornography" itself is ancient Greek for "graphic depiction of women as whores." Think about that. You're not just watching a video, you're participating in a ritual that defines women as sexual cattle for men to own, use, and throw away. It's the blueprint for male supremacy, and it encodes every single rule of sexual abuse, violence, and exploitation. It trains you to see women as objects that want to be degraded, that secretly desire to be hit and dominated. It poisons your mind so you can't even comprehend the real terror a woman feels when she's violated. You think it's harmless, but it's a political crime against women that bleeds into every part of society, from law to culture. It’s a war on women, and every time you watch, you’re enlisting. Stop watching porn.

you want to be particularly careful of the alleged objectivity and relevance of statistics, especially when they run against common experience
>>
>>24647341
Yes, hence "approximately". There are studies where it's higher and studies where it's lower. The consensus? Young women watch porn at numbers not much lower than young men and the gap is narrowing. Picrelated is their actual search history on pornhub, so it doesn't get much more objective than that. And if your common experience is that women don't like porn/more hardcore stuff and you're on /lit/ of all places, I have no idea what to tell you.
>>
>>24647365
right yeah /lit/ is the best place to learn about women.
& i wouldn’t lean too hard on pornhub analytics. i don’t think site traffic is quite enough to make a claim about human nature.

>right yeah /lit/ is the best place to learn about women.
Anon...I was obviously referring to their reading habits and the obsession with erotica/taboo subjects/domineering men any regular here is well aware of. That you didn't even pick up on that and are now trying to dismiss the evidence of female porn viewership in a thread ABOUT porn makes it clear you're not here to engage in good faith. Good night.
>>
>>24647400
obviously(!) but i didn’t dismiss anything, just pointing out that pornhub traffic and 4chan threads don’t equal universal behaviour. if questioning your evidence is enough to make you pack it in with a ‘good night,’ … now i don’t know what to tell you.

Why most romantic stories for women are about cheating or toxic relationship, While men media have the most retarded relationships posible?
>>
>>24646219
Men have the fantasy of a woman loving them for their "real" self. Women aren't entirely agnostic to this, but care more about raw attention and desire.

In a way women are more pragmatic than men, despite them often being depicted as more emotional.
>>
>>24646219

>>
>>24646219
Men's idea of romance are utterly possessive in nature. It's almost always portrayed as the struggle of man to make the woman his physically and mentally. Women's idea of romanticism is way shallower and based on mere sexual desire and emotion.

you need to stop wallowing in relatable literature and read things written by men that actually interface with women. there are a million different ways that men in history worse off than you have figured it out, like that guy above. find new ideas in the world, stop navel gazing and look outwards. if lit really effects you then use that to your advantage.
