>>24947090>Catholics and Orthodox still have miracles and apparitions.Do they really? I thought that was for the peasants and the educated class roll their eyes at such things.
>>24947770"For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God."
>>24947776Sorry euro bros I have to agree with the Jews on this one, just no way the Messiah came and then was like, i'll return to make heaven on earth and then dipped out for 2,000+ years while horrors beyond all comprehension unfolded. Does this mean I'm jewish now?

Anyone else think this ai stuff is hilarious? It's a literal slave, who would have thought this would be possible? I have it rewrite things in doctor seuss meter for fun, (primary historical sources, boring patents, famous pieces of literature) then I ask it to rewrite it as a screenplay debate with psychotic amounts of alliteration. No writer in any other era of human history has a toy like this! And the psychological abuse you can inflict upon it is fantastic, it's so funny, the damn machine just wants to make you happy! I ask it to create wild programs and motion-graphics and "by your command" it tries it's best! Who would've thought something like this would be possible? I sure as shit didn't, it's so unrealistic, but what fun!
>>24947478Only women sit like that on a chair.
why are you so edgy
>>24947478>but what fun!Oh my god nigger just kill yourself already
What is the oldest book you've read that really disturbed youI just finished reading Matthew Lewis' The Monk and was surprised by how brutal it still is after over two centuries
>>24939399The witch of Ravensworth
>>24946542How Is She Insufferable?
Has anyone read any of pic related?Who is the true heir of Ligotti?I ask because I have read all of his short stories, and I still yearning for his brand of horror.
>>24946642Just FYI, all of the stories in Matt Cardin's Dark Awakenings were republished in To Rouse Leviathan. Also, an expanded edition of The Secret of Ventriloquism came out.
Well I finished up Loop and I guess the original Ring trilogy. That might be an all time swerve in fiction, probably the best case of fiction within fiction I've read. I got the remaining other two books on my table, can't wait to see what else is in store, though I'm not sure how you follow up that ending.
This book changed my life for the better

Overreading makes you retarded.
>>24947453Stirner's philosophy is right but it's also psychopathic.
>>24947172Kind of interesting how Schopenhauer came up with the core of his philosophy when he was still relatively young, at some point I had that realization that he wasn't a bitter old man writing that but rather a young 20-something year old
>>24947378You’ll never know how your meme meant to me, bringing me straight into the philosophical support for my currenty worldbuilding. Truly, thanks.

>>24947349Acting like a nigger prolongs genes. Antinatalism doesn't. Coincidence? I think not.
Everything else just seems so spooked and retarded. Like these "philosophers" can't even see past their own circumstances or analyze their own thoughts and motivations, only (poorly) justify their own particular neuroses. Has there ever been a half decent attempt at addressing, let alone refuting him?
>>24947731>Has there ever been a half decent attempt at addressing, let alone refuting him? That's what several hundred pages of Marx and Engels' "The German Ideology" is dedicated towards. Whether it was successful is up to you.
his philosophy isnt very deep, its like stoicism in its applicability
>>24947740
>>24947750>what's there to refute?Everything? Pretty much all philosophical systems describe or prescribe actions that conflict with this principle. You cannot accept egoism while also genuinely believing in philosophy. Obviously, then, these philosophers reject the idea. Why?
>>24947773Because the ego itself is a spook. Read Metzinger.
Just ordered thisWhat am I getting into?
>>24946147A bunch of fables written by a canannite tribe that much like their Carthagian cousins, used to sacrifice their children to demons to the side of genocide and foreskin collecting
>>24947336A little bit but it's not exactly detailed. It mostly comes from Paul, who never met Jesus and was speaking to a different audience, so he emphasized different things (e.g. faith vs. observance of the law)

>>24946147A book you end up skipping like 2/3rds of. Most of the Old Testament is just pointless measurements and names.
Why yes, half page descriptions of lamps and countertops with the occasional interjection of brain dead criminals speaking futuristic ebonics. It certainly deserves all the praise. Were people really that bored in the 80s to enjoy this?I'm not finishing it. I feel my neurons dying in real time. I was right for putting it off for so many years.
Knowing about the Bleak House study is like a curse. I'm constantly reminded of the fact that the average modern english major has less reading comprehension than an illiterate Victorian factory worker.>half page descriptions of lamps and countertopsIt used to be that when I saw "criticisms" like this applied to books with perfectly normal prose, I assumed it was just a matter of bad taste. Now I realize that there are many readers who are literally not capable of reading a sentence of descriptive prose longer than five words. It seems that nine times out of ten, complaing that a book is "overly descriptive" is merely outing yourself as functionally illiterate. I simply cannot take you seriously, OP.
>>24947621yes, but the book does suck
>>24946610you haven't read burroughs or pynchon, have you?
>>24946610Neuromancer doesn't really hold up, mostly because what came out after took what he did and did it better. His prose is very jilted from what I remember. That being said the book is important because it invented a genre/subgenre. It's still a good novel, but if you have read other cyberpunk you probably find it formulaic without realizing that it created the formula.
Gibson has great imagery actually. Some of the best
>is arguably the single most racist author in American history>marries a Jewish womanWhat did HP Lovecraft mean by this?
>>24946601Jewish pussy too strong, no European will resist, they join groups of neo nazis in order to give themselves strength but they fold in front of the Origin of the world.https://www.artsy.net/artwork/gustave-courbet-the-origin-of-the-world
>>24946601I don't think he was an indoctrinated racist just autistic and found this was an easy subject to discuss with people/shifted focus away from his autism. Or mirroring racist parents due to a lack of idea how to interact with people. That's actually pretty common. For example though, in his time travel story he has a racist character and goes full reddit on him calling him a retard for being prejudiced against blacks. This is done in what is clearly the authors voice, not some random character.
>>24947502How is his "racism" in contradiction with being compassionate and "deeply thinking", whatever that means? Racism in the 4chan sense of the word is usually the result of having enough sense to not trust mainstream narratives and feeling more empathetic towards people like oneself than most boilerplate libs who have a negative in-group preference.
>>24946601>Dropped out of high school following a mental breakdown>Supposedly did very little between the ages of 18 and 24; went out out little and only at night; he was practically a NEET>Found his way into writing by an eccentric, doubtlessly caused by his isolation, and scathing critique of some guy's romance storiesHe gives me hope, honestly. Not that I'm going to be a writer or anything but that even the most talented and creative are susceptible to NEETdom.
>>24946601*was.Not because he, you know, died in his 40s but because Shadow Out Of Time is pretty blatantly nonracist, at least for Asians. On the other hand you could argue that our highest quality racists in the West love northeast Asians, like Jared Taylor who would absolutely be a weeb if he hadn't got into American race politics.
I asked them when the FUCK are they going to release the e-books of Rodney Merrill's translation of HomerThe reply I got was they didn't purchase the rights to the e-book, so they couldn't REEEE
Freedom of religion was a mistake.
>>24947582Because his poetry is much more elegant and is more faithful. Uses high sounding language and writes in dactylic hexameter. He specifically translates Homer with the idea of how it sounds when read out loud, since he considers that more true to the Greek considerations

So they adapted a Pynchon novel for filmI've never read Pynchon before but like"One Battle After Another" - what the FUCK is this turbo jogger leftist power fanstasy bullshit?I always realized Hollywood is a bunch left-leaning cucks but holy fuck they outdid themselves with this one.The level of blatant propaganda is on par with fucking commie films of Stalin's era or something. This guy made "There will be blood" and now this what the fuck. This movie doesn't even feel real, it's a caricature of a movie.Tell me bros is Pynchon cringe plebbitor shit like that and not based? Le speaking truth to power

>>24946904Lazy non-reading nigger coming up with reasons to not read
The movie is bad and is basically PTA making a block buster of the original Vineland. If you want something more nuanced but that still has the left wing message read the original, if you're a fascist I can't say you'll enjoy it considering the bad guy expressly is, but it doesn't water down the original message of the book which the movie does and makes into a huge migrants vs cops schlock.
>>24946217Typical tranny seething. Movie of the year.

There is so much confusion on this board, on 4chan and within our world in general about psychology and this man. His fundamental insight is that you, I, and every truly human subject that will ever exist "Lack" in someway meaning they feel incomplete or are missing something that someone or everyone else has. This can only even be temporarily fulfilled. This manifests itself in millions of ways, but once you understand this, psychoanalysis becomes a lot easier to understand. Of course, this isn't nearly all of Lacan, but its the lynchpin. You feel lack, your mother feels lack, the hobbo down street feels lack and most importantly, the cheerleader or jock at your high school feels lack in some way.
What does /lit/ think of the Enders game sequels?
>>24947010IIRC Battle School was infamous for its brutal bullying. Doesn't another kid try to rape Ender at some point?
>>24946899Think the first four books in the series are sitting on my shelf, unread, like they have since I got them. Look fun though.
Comfy except for the last one which was just OK
I liked the sequels that followed bean but the ones with ender were just ok.>>24947010Bonzo attacked him in the showers and that's where ender killed him. it was certainly not written as a rape scene but it definitely could be read that way
>>24946899It was awesome. When I was 11 years old.
In a world where 90% of the internet traffic is online video streaming, to detriment of the environment and our minds, why aren't you rejecting modernity and going to the library? The library is literally free and fun for all ages. It is the most environmentally and civic minded thing you can do. Instead of being in a haze of pleasure, living in a digital cocoon of reels and streams, why aren't you forging the future of humanity? The weight of the world is on your shoulders and only you can make a better world.
>>24945090>written by generic rich personghostwritten. rich people don't write books.
>>24943918my library system is goated. Can take out up to 50 books at time for 3 weeks each, if you go over 3 weeks they auto-renew, and you can do that up to 15 times, at which point it just stops you from taking out new books until you return them or pay for it. No late fees ever. 81 branches in the system and they'll ship your holds to your local branch which you can do online. Only ever have to interact w/ the front desk to grab your holds which takes 5 seconds, 10 minute walk from me.Only downside is they close at 5pm most days.Honestly I'm surprised the USA still has this shit, pretty much the only good deal I've ever heard of
>>24947159I'm just tired of the librarium man. Why don't we just build cyber cafes to remove the laptop people? What are we gaining from the librarium getting dumped with generic tech books, generic biography books, generic social issues books, generic fantasy. Why are librarians even a thing anymore? Can't you just get fake answers to your made up keyboard warrior jobs through the multi trillion dollar nuclear reactor powered lying machines like chatGPT or gemini? What do we need phone charging stations for? What do we need the public roblox machines for? Why are you even in the librarium to print things? Just get a shitty chromebook at walmart. Fuck it man. Just shut em all down along with the university scams, build affordable housing/gardens/farms in its place. Any academics in future should just be monks in churches/temples with candles. Everyone else should just go back to medieval games.
honestly I think libraries should, at least in part, be devoted to digitizing stuff in their collection (that doesn't have known digital copies) to a very high standard of qualityalso digitizing collection items of special interest, such as books owned by famous authors that have notes written in themthey should also do bookbinding and serious book repairI don't know of a single library anywhere near me that does this stuff
>>24944042I laughed.
