Have you ever seen a cute girl reading an actually good book in public?

>People see what your reading and engage with you
Not me. I purposely take off the sleeves and/or tilt the book down so people can't see what I'm reading at all, and I have a scowl on so no one comes up to me.
>>
>>24701494
This is the way to go about reading in public.
>>
>>24701494
I mainly read outside just to get out more and it's nice, but anything over 400 pages I leave my book at home and take my kindle so I'm not seen reading a "big book" like some pseud fag.
>>
>>24698911
Never. Hell, when I have met some cute girls who claim to read and try to talk to them, they don't even know the books they claimed to like.
Before you say it... Yes, it's probably because I'm ugly.
>>
>>24698911
No. Never saw a cute girl reading anything but on her phone.

I wasn't expecting this book to be so fucking funny. The first half wasn't anything out of the ordinary for a realist novel, but the second half, once Emma starts her affairs, is non stop genius comedic situations after another.

The clubfoot guy. Rodolphe writing the letter. The theater. The punchline at the climax with Emma hearing the blind guy. Good lord. So good.

Probably the funniest book I've ever read.

Discuss.

Did they ever make a good movie adaptation of this book?
>>
>>24701470
No. They keep trying to turn Emma into a misunderstood tragic heroine.
>>
>>24701487
That's what she is though.
Misguided as her education was, she is a tragic figure.

She read all of her romance novels, though consumed might be the best word in this case. She grew up believing that was what love was, and that when she married that's what she'd experience.
Then her father basically marries her to Charles, who's a loser, and she's constantly searching for her romantic life.

The issue with making a movie about Madame Bovary is that this is no longer the mid 19th century society, with it's romantic sensibilities and the beginning of the change of women's roles in Western nations.
>>
>>24701500
Maybe if they set it in Iran?
>>
>>24701500
>who's a loser
They weren't well matched, as they were completely different in temperament, but Emma wasn't a catch either. She was hot and that was literally her only positive quality. Otherwise she was the most stupid person in a book full of stupid people.

I just finished Things Fall Apart and I can't believe how good it was, even better than The Dance of the Lizard's Tale. I'm surprised nobody talks about it. I wish they had made us read this instead of Beloved or Blue Eye. What did you think about it? Maybe they should hve censored the parts where Okwonkwo disciplines his wives and stands up for his traditions but then the ending was amazing but also heartbreaking. The egwugwu were terrifying. Does he have other books worth reading?
>>
yeah bro this is a trilogy, read the other two books as well. doesnt get better than thigs fall apart imo but both are good, specially the third. cool that you brought achebe, dont remember if I ever saw a thread about him before

>In 1957 he sent his only copy of his handwritten manuscript (along with the £22 fee) to a London manuscript typing service he had seen an advertisement for in The Spectator. He did not receive a reply from the typing service, so he asked his boss at the NBS, Angela Beattie, to visit the company during her travels to London. She did, and angrily demanded to know why the manuscript was lying ignored in the corner of the office. The company quickly sent a typed copy to Achebe. Beattie's intervention was crucial for his ability to continue as a writer.[41] Had the novel been lost, he later said, "I would have been so discouraged that I would probably have given up altogether." The next year Achebe sent his novel to the agent recommended by Gilbert Phelps in London.[42][43] It was sent to several publishing houses; some rejected it immediately, claiming that fiction from African writers had no market potential.

The real answer is that you use either convention as you see fit. There's a reason why we're "supposed" to use a comma at the end of a sentence spoken by someone inside a larger sentence. I don't like it either, however as my father always told me, "Don't do things just because people demand you do them, do what you think is right and fuck everyone else." So, just structure your writing to accommodate your preferred style. Can't do that? Then you can't fucking write for shit and you don't deserve this advice.

So why do people shill The Book of the New Sun when people are asking for "soulslike" books and books like "Elden Ring" instead of this?
>>

Most people have not read the Faerie Queene,
>>
i'm reading it right now and can't believe how entertaining it is. every canto is plot twist upon plot twist, fights, monsters, sexy evil ladies, nefarious sorcerers etc etc. and yeah i get the dark souls thing, even down to people talking in self consciously retarded olde-tyme speech that isn't even how people spoketh backeth then

The entire problem with Marxism is that it assumes a virtue in the lower classes that simply doesn't exist. The proletariat aren't good, they're crude and ugly and oafish and they beat their wives and molest their children. They're not good, they're bad. Everyone is bad. Human nature is wicked and depraved, and that's why communism will never work.

Everyone being evil would support Marx's argument because the workers would have no qualms killing and ripping the wealthy apart to steal everything to have.

The real mystery is why they don't. And for that we have Freud.

Simple. Would you have sex with a 6 year old kid? No, right? Of course not. So then why is it suddenly okay if you put a 1 to the left of it?

Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World
I enjoyed it a lot and it practically got me into reading history
>>
>>24700922
it's not incelkino but it's a degree of romance wish-fulfillment. a depressed boring guy trades his lifespan for money and then gets together with a girl during his last few months. it's a very unsubtle story of "value yourself and appreciate the little things in life you dumbfuck hurr durr" but i found it charming anyway.

Why do you guys hate self-help? Is there even a self-help chart from /lit/?

I mean, you could learn about manipulation, creating habits, becoming better step-by-step everyday, masking your lack of empathy.

>Words are a very powerful thing. The Scripture is evidence of this. A word can save a life or end a life, mind your words!

>>24701296

A single kind word can save a life. When Nabi Muhammad, peace be upon him, lost his best friend, a Christian ascetic who supported his early prophetic revelations, he was so depressed that he attempted suicide multiple times.

The holy angel Gabriel, who revealed to him the Holy Koran, saved him with his words each time he tried to commit suicide.

A word, just a word, can save a life. Mind your words!

To the spiritually broken and defeated, I come to you with the Word from the Messenger of God, salallahu alayhi wa salam, through the holy archangel and announcer of God's will to mankind, the blower of the trumpet, Gabriel, directly from the Almighty:

Do not kill yourself! Never give up!

Rise and fight against Satan's evil forces.

Live and survive and fight until God's will is done.

You who would turn your swords upon yourself:

Stop!

Carry your sword for the Lord instead against Satan and his forces.

I worship only God.

Satan is the clear enemy.

I reject and oppose Satan.

Christ commands worship of God.

Read your Gospel, Luke 4:8, worship God alone.

Follow the way of Jesus Christ, peace be upon him, and worship God.

This is the First Commandment, Exodus 20:3, worship God and God alone.
