So apparantely the Golden Company was supposed to work for Viserys originally. Even though when he asked them before they just ate his expense, wasting what little fortune he and Dany still had. Strickland (iirc) says they were originally meant to join up with him after he gets the Dothraki on board. This also debunks the theory that Varys' and Illyrio's 5D plan was about attacking Westeros with Dothraki and Viserys then countering with Aegon, which honestly was already too retarded to make any sense to begin with (causing an additional civil war for nor reason)
So, my question is - what do you think their plan was in regards to Aegon? Everything goes off without a hitch.

I'm not sure how loony Viserys would get without Dothraki savages mocking him all the time. He and Dany might actually be relived at having another relative (other than Aemon) should the succesion not be an issue.

Look i don't know how the dragons will be used exactly, all i can tell you is that if you wanted to see armies and castles razed by dragonfire in Westeros, you're 300 years late.
And on their size, they clearly grow rapidly, at least Drogon did and his his wings already stretch twenty feet from tip-to-tip. At that size he was already too much for everyone in Meereen and since i don't expect her return to take less than another year, they are bound to grow large by the time Dany finally reaches Westeros. The GC and Aegon's existence are tightly bound. If they back Viserys then Aegon/JonCon never existed but if Aegon/JonCon are a thing, then the GC never planned on allying with Viserys.
Varys & Illyrio don't really have a masterplan, they are just adapting as things progress (or so George would have you believe). And they are 100% Blackfyre regardless.

If fAegon really got Blackfyre, then it might be a parallel to Dany getting the three eggs. (Both symbols of their houses legitimacy, the sword Blackfyre for Blackfyres; dragons for Targaryens, three for three heads echoing Aegon the conqueror)

After Viserys dies Illyrio and Doran change up the plan and have Arianne be betrothed to fAegon.
After Khal Drogo dies, Illyrio leaves Daenerys to her own devices. She has likely become useless. After news of the dragons hatching though, he immediately renews her support for him and urges her to come to Pentos.

At this time, fAegon is still in Pentos, so Illyrio likely wants Dany and him to meet. When he learns he isn't coming, he sends fAegon to her to get her hand in marriage.

From this we learn that the plan has become for fAegon to be king with two wives, Arianne and Daenerys. Through Arriane he has the support of Dorne, through Daenerys he has three dragons.

However, Doran sends his son Quentyn to marry Daenerys also. So maybe Doran feels spurned by Arianne not being a sole queen alongside fAegon, so he etches his bets by getting Daenerys for her son. Believing that Daenerys and fAegon will come to blows, he ensures that whichever side wins, one of his kids will be a ruler.
How this deviation from the plan will affect the three conspirators relationship, we are yet to see

I'd suggest GRRM's original idea was that Varys and Illyrio intended to control Viserys and when the promised Dothraki horde would begin moving west, the Golden Company would join them, forming the core of the invasion force. Viserys was always supposed to die out on the Dothraki Sea and Daenerys was always supposed to inherit the role and now with dragons, be a far more formidable force.

The retcon of including fAegon messes up this storyline, as Varys and Illyrio's actions don't make sense if fAegon exists: why expend the time and effort on Viserys, if you really want fAegon on the Iron Throne and why marry off Daenerys to Carl Drogo, when she'd be the perfect wife for fAegon?

This is the result of GRRM's "gardening" style of writing, where he doesn't really know where the story is going and comes up with stuff later, that he now has to shoehorn in.

Daenerys was always the plan from _GRRM's storytelling perspective_ not from the perspective of the characters Varys and Illyrio, who originally intended on controlling Viserys to take control or Westeros.

The later addition of fAegon screws up this aspect of the story as I pointed out but GRRM just brushed it off.
