=READ THE GUIDE=

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For the unclear, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the site from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:

>Organic mecha (ie Evangelions) and monsters from /m/-related media (ie: the BETA from Muv-Luv)
>A mecha that draws inspiration from various demons or monsters from different mythologies and religions.

Submit your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com , include at least 5 finished pics and any WIP pics you took while working on your entry, as well as a brief description of your build.

I haven't even attempted the pipes yet. I am not sure how to approach sanding them unless I buy nice tweezers (I have shit ass chinese ones with no grip). That's my only concern though.
I'm also not sure if the head is supposed to "snap" on. I've already applied enough force and it doesn't stick, I'll come back to that one I assemble the rest of the plating. But it's very nice otherwise, the legs assembled great. I'll end up painting smaller details like the eyes and maybe spray the whole thing in the future once I get equipment.
I like it otherwise, too bad all the better constructed RGs just have that standard Gundam head that I'm not a fan of.

Okay, so among the Pale Rider Project prototype machines, which ones will get a Master Grade first? Also, be warned that all of them will be P-Bandai in the first place since they will surely use the RX-78 frame as a base, either the 2.0 or 3.0.

most likely the Pale Rider if it happens. 80% of the body is done already as it uses the GM Sniper II frame, the GM Dominance has the side leg boosters and the arm boosters. and the torso. the GM Turbulence has the shoulder parts, the weapons like the Gatling is from G-05.

so technically, you only need new molds for the head, weapons like the folding cannon,
backpack and the beam saber holster.

But Bandai is retarded. they never made a Blue Destiny MG despite 90% of the parts needed are already there. so what chances does Pale Rider have?

Need some resources: I've never really gotten into searching for aftermarket or third-party expansion stuff for my kits. I'm talking about stuff like decal sets, replacement parts for problem pieces in original kits, metal frames, photo etch detail parts, expansion parts similar to P-Bandai stuff but which doesn't require you to buy an entire kit in the process, and so on. Is there a master list of reputable brands and such, or is the hobby just so expansive that it's impossible to list them all?

Still got HG Rising Freedom, HG Calibarn left which I want to mess around with.
Sitting on the MG Sazabi Ver.Ka I keep pushing back because I want to make it amazing. Like, masterpiece tier, even with my limited means.

I'm considering getting an Iwata HP-CH over an HP-CS. I like the idea of the backstop for more controlled airbrushing. Is the airbrush different than the CS otherwise? What exactly does the dial on the front do?
>>
>>22905016
>What exactly does the dial on the front do?
mac valve. reduces velocity of paint without you having to go and adjust your compressor's psi dial. it's not exactly the same as adjusting pressure but it has a similar effect for minor adjustments.
backstop is good training wheels when you first start but i stopped using the one on my h&s after a few months because it's next to useless when you have the hang of fine trigger control

My paint is smooth I know thanks. The major work was closing the seam on fuel tanks because it's just two pieces that sandwich together. I didn't feel like dealing with the smaller one on the little thruster flange things at the bottom though because of how it goes together it would have been much more of a pain.

You can probably see some of the slip ups in masking of the brown circle vent things in a close up. It's fun having massive kits but they are kinda boring if you don't customize it or do an interesting paintjob.

How do you guys feel about aliexpress bootlegs? I bought this GTO RX-78 because I thought a red gundam was a really neat and unique color for the design. It needed more work than a typical bandai kit, with the parts demanding more thorough cleanup before assembly.
However, it came with a TON of accessories and customization options, all for like $9 or something. The stickers were absolute shit though, so I had to paint the eyes myself. It also had some water decals, those are probably awful too but we'll see if I even bother attempting to put them on.

Can verify. The stickers were ASS. I ended up only using the red bits on the helmet, nothing else. Had to paint the eyes myself. Pic related. You can also see some of the issues with the casting in this too, lots of residual plastic, and some pieces were malformed due to the press pushing too far into the molds. Notice the blemishes on the left side, between the head and the shoulder.
>>22905198
The colors maybe, but the kit itself is based on the GTO RX-78. I can see how they were trying to emulate the P-Bandai kit though.

Also interestingly enough, the v-fins did not have safety flags.

Probably wouldn't get this kit again, but I imagine this shit would be GREAT for kitbashing. Also, it only used half of the PC-001 runner it came with, so the extra pieces there are nice to have.

Oh and also an important thing that occured to me.
Primers and undercoats can be a pain in the ass depending on the color you want to use - trying to paint red on a black primer is hell, and don't get me talking about shit like yellow or white.

I don't have a catch all guide since I'm not a good painter but I'd suggest you double-check your priming color and the color palette you want to use, to make sure it won't take ten layers to have the color show up correctly.
>>
>>22905260
>wait for things to dry correctly
What does that mean? Should I wait until it's 100% dry or should the paint not pool up anywhere?
>>
>>22905279
yeah I ussed vallejos "rust stain & streaking" paint for it. german c black brown I think. I also like the rust wash that comes with it, but I didnt use it much for this kit since im not good at using washes
>>
>>22905277
Amazing how much better the GM Sniper II looks when it isn't in that horrible turquoise colour.
>>
>>22905282
Wait until the paint layer is 100% dry before adding more, otherwise you're likely to pull up paint or make very visible brush strokes. It's really a game of patience and making sure your paint is thinned just right.
>>
>>22905281
>>22905287
Thanks for the tips.
I'm probably going to use a gray primer, and paint the parts blue since it's my favorite colour, with some orange or yellow for extra detail.

that looks insanely good anon. Amazing work!

Only when you try to snapbuild a recast. Painting the kit will hide the weaknesses. Chinese OC stuff are good though, mostly because they actually give a shit, unlike recasts.
>>
>>22905319
Hexagear are 1/100 scaled, have many parts and they have cockpit. Alot of MG Gunpla have similar price range to Hexagear. HG in general are the kiddie model line and they don't have much interesting stuff + smaller, thus cheaper.
>>
>>22905314

The problem is that EG Strike has its own backpack option set and RX782 has its own weapon set. Meanwhile EG Nu has nothing, which is fucking weird.

Mostly because HG Nu is such an outdated kit in current year, EG Nu is like a soft upgrade to it with sharper mold and better engineering. The problem of HG Nu's funnel is that the thing is just as outdated as the kit it belongs. Only Bandai can make something this retarded.

>>
>>22905606
The Kshatriya repaired binders are only accurate to the Repaired. You can't build it to have the proper funnel racks open outwards, the inside of the binder has the funnel ports blocked off and what opens is only a small shell the funnel missiles attach to. There's no Bandai kit that recreates the original Kshatriya's binder mechanisms in full.

How can Aurelius build his kits so fast? This dude built an MG in 2 hours before.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uujSnrF8Oq0&loop=0
>>
>>22906721
You can build far faster if you do everything efficiently. Cutting out all the parts at once, then cleaning all the parts, then assembling. You waste a ton of time if you just clip out and clean parts as the instructions call for them.
>>
>>22906626
it's the 'kotsu that made you want it
>>
>>22906723
The problem is normally how the parts i cut out became a giant mess. The time you waste to find the correct part for assembly can be as long as the time you fuck around with with the runners.
>>
can i have a retard proof guide on waterslide decals?
>>
>>22906745
Gloss coat the kit => Apply decals => Gloss coat it again to have equal glossiness => Finish coat, either matte or another gloss, your personal taste
>>
>>22906727
It's easy to place them in piles of subassemblies as you're clipping them off. No one said you had to scramble them all together. Have a nice clean workspace and you can group them all appropriately, even for MGs.
>>
>>22906750
I normally build Chinese OCs with gorillon amount of parts so it is rather tough.
>>
>>22906753
There are other solutions like tacklebox-syle containers to drop all the parts into but sounds like you need a bigger work area.

Ain't your fault it's just schizos taking it as a personal attack.

But yeah makeup stores are actually goldmines if you are enough of a man to step into one and buy products.

Makeup sponges are great for sponge painting. Makeup brushes make for very good and cheap drybrushes. You have nail polish which we already talked about. Cheap makeup is basically weathering powder and pastels. Rhinestones can make some sensors 3D, notably monoeyes. Hell, glass files and files in general.

You can get lots of good shit from a makeup store if you're an actual man that doesn't chimp out at the idea of buying something supposedly for girls.

Usually you'd test fit to gauge if there is enough clearance (tight/loose connections) after layers of paint are added, but I'd just mask all major joints to be safe since you can always add material easily, and anything that is friction fit and might have issues you can just sand later if the area that connects it is hidden.

Okay so basically do mask them. Like you said if there are fit issues I can address them later.

How well does lacquer hold up to damage during assembly? I want to prime it and reassemble things once just so I can finalize the painting plan on a bare model first, but I don't know if I should risk it if the lacquer surfacer is going to have a high risk of being damaged. In my experience lacquer is resilient, but I've never tried disassembling a kit with it.

No, I mean what is it doing there, why are they literally selling it there, why would that somehow be the place where it would sell, rather than regular stores where they're already in supply

Yes but they’ve got a decently high shipping fee compared to other sites if you’re in the US. Also their preorder dates are not exact, and can be pushed back

>>

Yeah. I like mine. It does what it says on the tin and keeps pegs and ball joints from slipping under the weight of the model.
>>

lost my clippers and I've been too lazy to make a trip to the store for them.
>>

can i use it on a polycap?
>>

Dont you build gunpla? you HAVE clippers.
>>
>>22907158
I haven't tried it on polycap yet but it shouldn't dissolve or damage plastic.
>>
As far as Dispiae vices go, do is the omnidirectional one worth it over the regular variety?
>>

1.0mm and 1.5 are my common scribes for hg, 2.0 if I want to add a small thick accent
1.5mm and 2.0 for mg, though some people do 2.0mm and 2.5
>>
>>22906030
dont know why i asked, no one in this general paints
>>

Not those Anons, but I didn't buy it because of that. Do nail polish really achieve the same effect?
>>

>>22907181
I have Gaianotes gunmetal but I haven't used it on joints. I used Star Bright Duranium for the joints though.
>>
>>22907182
Yea, a thin layer of clear coat polish, left to fully dry, is excellent for strengthening ball joints. I've used it on a few kits w/o issue!

Again, let it FULLY DRY though, otherwise the joint could seize.

just spent 22 CAD on a 30ml bottle of paint that i dont even actually like but its a specific color for a car i have and its the only car specific one a local hobby shop stocked, i wanted millennium jade

How are Acrysion paints for handpainting? Is it safe for painting on lacquer paints and what do you use to clean up and for thinning if need be?

for gunpla you should probably just buy cheap drugstore makeup
clear nailpolish for joint strengthening, pastel pallettes for weathering or girlpla skin highlighting, makeup sponges for painting...

>>
>>22907290
I already have an EG Nu kit, but I might go back Sunday and grab one if they still have it. I want another of those weapon kits for $10. They had something similar to it on P-Bandai about four or five months ago, for about $14 I think.
>>
>>22907269
I bought these recently for the first time and I'm pretty impressed with their vertical stability. The larger one with the hex screws wouldn't tighten enough with the including plastic bullshit tighteners though, but a proper allen wrench to it tightened it nicely.

Only problem I have now is that the final y-axis rotating bit that actually connects the model is slightly loose. Not enough anything has fallen off that way, but it's a little disconcerting how easily I can rotate a Hazel on it.
>>
>>22907300
FUCK you made me realize I used the joint that doesn't rotate sideways
lmfao why even include it
>>
>>22907294
I don't like double-dipping either, but the fun backpack and neat colours would be enough to make me get him if he was cheap and in my area (and single)
I managed to get a few spare funnels from a friend, but I'd imagine your Nu might be bare-bones, this would give him a buddy or rival with some pretty good firepower as backup.

>>
>>22907307
Eh, I already dislike the fact that the EG didn't come with funnels, making a Gundam Base exclusive kit with a long dong funnel doesn't really make me want to swipe my card for it, even if it was only $10.
>>
>>22907315
It's such a fucking ridiculous setup. Sell the actual funnels with. Fuck that stupid ass superfunnel, just cope to build a crappy statue.

All right, help an idiot out.

I made an impulse (lol) purchase of an RG Aile Strike and Skygrasper at my local brick and mortar, because I had learned in previous threads that a Chinese aftermarket kit exists that consists only of the parts needed to build it into the Perfect Strike. Does anyone know where one would acquire one of these, or is it just something super easy to find on Aliexpress and Mofiho?

honestly im more pissed about the fucking beam saber situation because the nu has that super special unique beam saber so you HAVE TO buy the HG or the RG to get proper beam saber blades for it, at least with gramps you could use any SB-13s.

>>22907492

All right, I found a place that wasn't charging an arm and a leg for the expansion kit (it's only one fucking runner, why so much). But since I suspect that it's shipping from China or HK, has anyone ordered from this website and can vouch for its products?

https://samueldecal.com/

I'm considering getting some RG sized decals at the same time, just so I'm not getting raped on shipping, are the ones listed on that site any good?

Looks like Tron, where entities manifest in a glowing wireframe format before textures are applied and they look physical. Neat.

When you said you browse /m/ occasionally at the store yesterday, I'm sorry for saying "fellow /m/an", I took it back in the same breath but you didn't react so feel my reputation is irreparably damaged, please forgive me......

New thread. If you guys seriously want an extension then ask Groupbuild Dude the next time he pops in. Also report spambots and maybe, just maybe, the mods will actually get it.
