=READ THE GUIDE=

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For the unclear, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the site from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:

==MELEE GROUPBUILD==

Build/paint a robot with a loadout focused on melee combat! Anything from shields to swords to lances to axes to bare fists is fair game. There's no room for ranged weaponry here, however, so anything resembling a rifle, rocket launcher, cannon, pistol, or any other ranged weapon is a no-go (Small ranged weapons that are built into the kit itself like head vulcans are ok, however).

More clarification here:
>If the body part has a built-in ranged weapon (head/chest vulcans, claw beams, etc), then that's fine. If it's a separate part like the Alex's arm vulcans it's best to leave those off.
>Melee weapons with in-universe ranged capabilities (Like the Kimaris's lance or the Gyan's shield) are fair game too.
>Any scale, any brand, and any type of kit is fair game here. That means anything from Gundams to girlpla to miniatures are all free to use.

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Why is the plastic quality so different?
>>

Bandai recently sprung for some kind of new tech that makes plastic come out with a more premium-feeling finish at no extra cost, supposedly
they used it on the new RG Epyon and the RfV HGs

It's only really been a decade or so.

>>
>>23051861
They have a sticker you put on a clear piece. It's just like the dom you're building. A red gundam marker and a touch of gold in the center looks a lot better than the sticker.
>>
>>23051864
oh i'm not dom builder anon
but i do want to know how to paint a good monoeye because i can't into circles
>>
>>23051861
The 2.0 zaku definitely has a clear piece for the eye. The MG Dom was ahead of it's time in a lot of ways though, it has a sort of pseudo 2.0 style hand too(I personally think they are superior to the later 2.0 hands honestly).
>>
Before I was told it's weird to self insert myself with the girlpla as a gundam, so this time I self insert as the drink.

>>23051868
The eye in the MG zaku and doms are their own clear piece so it's very easy to paint. You just paint the whole piece and when it dries you put it on. Or you can put it on and paint it, then add the clear visor when it dries. Most of the master grade monoeyes are done this way. Any of the 2.0 ones are and the doms. If you're very new to painting, gundam marker sticks to plastic without any prep and the metallic red one is very good for monoeyes.
>>
>>23051876
I always forget my photos.
>>
>>23051876
oh you mean the MGs
no that's easy
i want to paint monoeyes for my poor stickered HGs

A lot of them have raised detail to paint so it's no different from painting any other eye. As for the ones that don't... well there are three options aside from being a masochist and trying to freehand it as I see it. The first is a stencil, the second is just dropping a little paint on it and letting physics do the work, the third is getting a lens sticker of some sort instead of using the stock foil. Bandai makes some these days but third party ones have existed for years.
>>
>>23051891
>i want to paint monoeyes for my poor stickered HGs
the best looking result I've seen is painting a color on the flat surface where the sticker would go and then putting a droplet of UV resin on top to form a dome shape.
>>
>>23051895

brother they are markers you use them like markers
you press it on a surface (like a piece of paper or a tissue) to get paint in the nib and then paint
>>
>>23051933
Awesome thanks, should I apply a matte coat then before I start using them? I feel like just going bare plastic they won't adhere to the parts
>>
>>23051928
The metallics are all really good.

>>23051938
They stick fine to plastic. They're just not appropriate for doing large surfaces. Think of them as tools for adding small colored details.
>>
>>23051938
the markers are designed to work on bare plastic
a matte coat or a matte finish (polishing with melamine sponge) might make it better but they will work fine on bare plastic

PB Nightseeker HG kit, or you can get just the gun 3d printed from Project V Hobby I believe. I'd recommend the latter since the PB kit will be at scalper prices, and it's also oversized.

The project V handgrips have always been oversized for 1/144. Its like the weapons are hg sized but the grip is mg size. Check etsy, there are some decent options on there for that stripped beam gun for the light armor. Also you will likely have to modify the shoulder armor as thats what the arm attatches to usually, though some older designs you can ditch the shoulder armor.

And dont worry about stuff being p bandai. Just hit surugaya and get stuff when you can afford it. It may not be ideal but it is the only way we will get alot of these kits at all.

Custom 30MS is starting to finally take shape. But I wonder if my whole work today toward replicating arms (as you can seen forearms are green stuff copies, upper arm is made out of PS rods) isn't actually sort of "reinventing the wheel", since I DO have spare pair (one 30MS won't use her unarmored ones anyway). Should I rather use existing part then?

This also comes down to question - should project use as much of existing spare parts I already have or to replace them with scratchbuilt copies.

You can technically wash the runners themselves without having to cut all the pieces off. The nubs themselves won't have any oil so you don't have to worry about that.

>>23054938

>>
the smartest way to clean kits is to do it after all the plastic preparation (cutting and sanding), so tou only need to do it once (to remove the oil and the plastic dust)
>>
>>23054977
Modelkit in general are made by injection molding. The molds have a coat of oil on them to make the runners easier to be released off them. It is recommended to wash the model with dish cleaner to clean up this coat of oil before painting or decal application.

Nubs from Schizophonic's reviews is simply because it is a low efforted snapbuild for the sake of review. Panel Lining on the otherhand, alters the kit's appearance and arguably make them look much worse in Dalong's case.

How is anyone in Japan affording gunpla right now with how insane the prices are. New prints can be found for retail price but anything else has gotten to fucking stupid prices. Even with my currency being insanely strong against Yen, the pricing makes it barely worthwhile.

>>
>>23054996
I think the build is solid and enjoyable for straight build, and I think it's clever that there are many duplicate parts that are used for both the main unit and the parts for the transformation. But as the result of having it being solid, it's difficult to dissassamble. That normaly wouldn't be a problem, but I'm preparing it for a custom build, and some parts(like the wrists) weren't built for easy dissassmble.
Overall, I think it's very good, but now I'm dreading the paint I will have to make in the open mouth, it's very small.
>>
>>23055046
You can find the majority of other plamo stuff for retail price. I'm not talking about retail pricing anyway, I'm talking about how expensive the 2nd hand market has got. I took a look around a lot of stores in Japan 2 weeks ago, outside of Tokyo too, and everywhere is ripping the ass out of pricing. I've seen standard HG kits going for 4-5k yen, RGs for 6-9k & MGs going as high as 14-15k and all of these are retail kits. You know pricing is fucked when I'm getting 200 yen per £1 and still the pricing is barely cheaper than buying these kits at home. If I wanted the latest release or some random WfM kit then yeah I could find those easily for cheap.

you want to buy from legit stores like Dabandai Figures Store, Professional Boutique Model Store, etc. Not random numbers with no reviews. Look at reviews with actual pictures of the assembled kit. That kind of thing.

Safe brands are JMS, XFS, STAR (Xingbaofan). WarModels are okay but inconsistent. Daban is ehhh

the hand is shallower than the lance so if you're only gonna glue one side of the brass pin in it'd probably be more secure to glue the hand side.
or you could just do both and make it permanent, swap the hand out at the wrist to unequip the weapon.

>>
>>23055672
the whole thing is brand new, not a single part is reused. The shapes are mostly same besides the sharper and bigger nose section, but Option Parts version has more defined details with better quality molds. The gatling comes with parts to hold it in a hand too. On the other hand, the gunbarrel deployment is a bit simplified and doesn't look as nice but now they are stand compatible.
>>

it's very rare for plamo to need washing in the modern age because they normally use a different type of mould release than what was used back in the 70s or whenever that got slathered all over the kit. you don't need it at all when using lacquers on a modern kit. again, the only plastic kit i've ever needed to wash is the volks 1/100 daccas clear runners

Orguss has way too tight joints that can easily snap from just being put together or even carefully moving them (hell, there were a bunch of pics on Twatter where the plastic would get stress marks from simply putting the visor into the head), details were missing from the sculpt and had to be added with fucking stickers, someone fucked up the sculpt in CAD and now a small joint-detail on the left hip got stretched out as some sort of rod that now clips through the whole piece and the cockpit lacks any kind of details.

Daioja is one of GSC's more toy-ish figures like the Gravions or Gladion that are made almost completely out of ABS and are mostly made with snapshitting in mind but the thing has absolutely horrendous gate placements and lazy as shit engineering, most of it involves partsforming and the articulation is pretty bad. For whatever reason out of all things its main body and shoulders are also the wrong colors and absolutely need to be painted.

Then there are some like the Ariel kits that are way too delicate for their own good and feel as if they should've been scaled up quite a bit.
The flight type also bizarrely doesn't come with a hand with a trigger finger so she's just clutching the gun awkwardly by the grip and the ammo belt seemed way too short.
Whatever they used for the clear plastic was also not exactly the highest quality and I had to replace the stand because every single joint on it snapped with a good 1mm wide tear in it - never seen that before.

Okay, so, I've got something a bit different this time.

I rewrote the OP to sort things better. I've been meaning to do it for a while. I moved all the guides together, including "THE GUIDE", IE Gelgoog Guy's guide. I agree that a lot of information in it is outdated, but I still think it's valuable, so I wanted to make it clearer which links are guides and which aren't.

I also added in r/gunpla's aggregated restock list (shamelessly stolen). I'll be updating this link monthly, just like when we had Bandai's official restock list. It exists, so we might as well use it.

Also I swapped around the wording in the title so the acronym is first, putting the general in sync with the rest of the generals on the board. It's been annoying me for some time now that we were the only one that did things in reverse.

Otherwise everything else should remain the same. If it doesn't work out I'll go back to the old OP, but I'd like to see if it makes things a bit clearer for people.

New thread.

I believe they have a round hump on the inner shoulder to fit the outer shoulder armor on. Im not saying it is impossible just saying it wont be an easy little conversion. May have to cut pla plate and resculpt a few parts.
