Help me out, Ravens. I wonder which booster to pick: I've been using Gridwalker for the upward thrust but discovered it's ideal weight (60,900) is far below mine (ca. 740,000). I've been trying the P06SPD since it's ideal weight (760,000) fits almost perfectly (Only Fluegel would be better and I don't like it's looks) Giving me a much quicker machine with particularly quicker QBs and ABs. I am therefore certain it's the best choice for PvE. I however wonder if in terms of PvP particularly rat-catching upward thrust is much more important. I always try to make well-rounded ACs suited for all situations.
What are your experiences? What would you pick?

On a different note: HOKUSHI or MING-TANG?

CORE THEORY

No but really, the real reason ACs are tougher then MTs is because they can repair themselves with some fancy hyper advanced nanomachine tech. Tetrapod MTs are tougher then an AC but you never see them heal themselves. Imagine if every single MT in the game had 3 heal drops, suddenly the game got a whole lot harder.
>>
>>23058563
also ACs are supposed to automatically angle themselves minimize damage from shots and making them glance off. Though I think this is represented by the posture system which MTs also have
>>
>>23058522
I think hokushi with your weight. Ming tai would put you over. Or maybe I’m getting them mixed up.
>>
>>23057772
damn wish you could actually melee w/ guns like in the trailer for ac4
>>
>>23058522
SPD is sort of a trap since its specialization is normal boost speed when you really want QB or AB or other specialized stats for combat proficiency
as for generator if you want rat catching >we have to go into a bit of a tangent
one half of rat catching tactics is developing a weapons setup than can function with its heavy weapons purged for the speed boost
the other half of it is optimizing around AB shuffle boosting, which combines your AB and QB speed to achieve the fastest possible speed your AC can reach outside of falling speed. it's a really fuel-intensive mode of movement with all the QBs so it can be called the "true overboost" of AC6. as such, to counteract all the fuel you're pissing you want to pick out generators with a shitton of capacity. therefore the real generator choice for rat-catching is to optimize around going fast with SAN-TAI equipped but the main idea is staying in QB shuffle mode for as long as possible no matter what generator/booster combo you're using
>>
>>23058349
>what's the justification for AC's being so much more durable than MT quads?
maybe i'm biased as a biped-only fag but in some ways they aren't
on my first time trying to S-rank destroy the transport helicopters i freaked out when the quad MT tanked a raw charged pile bunker hit without even getting stunned

>>
>>23058566
Everything has ACS, which makes sense enough. It shouldn't be possible for the pilot to micromanage the mech's balance on all terrains by themselves. The reason why MTs your AC's size have much shittier ACS than you is most likely because they are not really made for getting hit in mind, just to allow the MT to keep straight while shooting.
>>
>>23058522
Going over ideal weight isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you're ever using reverse joints then you've seen how far your boots go on the ground, but you don't go as far in the air.

1.30 is how long it takes to land after a reverse joints quickboost. Some RJs take the gridwalkers and intentionally go overweight to get their QB delay to exactly 1.30 or slightly over. You'll see it on some kite builds, they minmax their mobility like that since RJs don't need rapid quickboost and become real hard to catch.

>>23059357
Very much correct and factual. I would like to add that while LR's arena is better overall SL has the advantage of integrating it's cast into the story with entries disappearing when they die in a mission. I always thought that was pretty cool.

I really hope they bring back the system of progressing the story despite failing the mission in AC7 or whatever comes next. More endings, parts and missions would also always be cool as long as they keep it polished. That would basically be my perfect AC game.
>>
>>23059314
Pretty much this, I honestly might just have SL win out because my favorite weapons feel better to use.
>>23059357
Pretty good, but I would switch the arena around. I found LR arena to be painfully easy except the #1 while SL was a decent challenge throughout and it also helps arena was more connected to the story than it is in LR.
It annoys me that you cant fail missions on LR I dont think it would be that hard to have another line of missions that is just for failures that results in a bad ending, but I guess that might be too punishing.
Another thing thats annoying is the part damage system. I think I lost 1 part so far and maybe killed 1-2 AC enemies by blowing up their core. It sounds so cool in theory, but is a let down in reality. Maybe I just had too high expectations hearing about it. Other people can probably use it to their advantage I am just too retarded to be able to aim for specific parts on an enemy I guess.

no i can't agree, i feel you let your idea of gameplay be influenced by weapon balance and meta, instead of being objective about controls and gameplay elements
controls and factual gameplay is better in LR and not up to debate

for the rest well i suppose it's subjective
>>
>>23059507
LR controls are like ass, touching anything completely kills your speed and the balance is the worst its ever been. What are you even on about?
>>
>>23059507
I put it like that because I really don't like Nexus heating mechanics and LR carries it over, which from my perspective downgrades LR gameplay significantly. To me it just sucks out a big chunk of enjoyment from movement and energy managment. Mind you I probably played LR more than any other oldgen AC, beat all missions, got all endings, so I feel like I am entitled to my opinion.

as if a screenshot would mean anything, anyone can download a completed save off internet
if anything you'd prove even a retard can 135% LR
how do you manage to have this little mobility on a light build, how do you have issues with cooling when you have this much cooling and underpowered boosters, you're definitely doing something wrong
>>
>>23059740
Because it's not a light build, it's a medium build? Do you not know the difference between the two? These are medium legs with biggest max leg weight so I can carry all the big guns. It's also slow because it uses boosters with less heating and less energy consumption. If I used faster boosters it would have bad heating because that's just how boosters are in LR. Once again anon, I can handle heating and make builds around it, I just personally find it annoying. >the idea was to have a middleweight build that can cram as much ammo as possible, just in case.
then if you stay on a hanger core, drop a missile launcher, drop the rifle (it's not bad, actually very good rifle, just not adapted for the purpose), equip the ROC4 and use in hanger the CR-WH01HP
>>23059920
that's a terrible argument, first off it's not that limiting, and the biggest factor for building is weapons and legs, if LR had good back weapons other than missiles you'd see a lot more heavies and quads, anyway there will always be a meta (most efficient tactic available)
and that's ignoring some of the best builds in LR are actually midweights to accommodate a good enough generator to run laser weapons
>>
The FCS jammer rockets in 3 are so fun, a good portion of the enemies just don't know what to do when you hit them with those.
>>
>>23059945
The core is just for fashion actually, I mostly used CR-C89E and only switched after I was pretty much done with the game. But yeah you're right, it makes more sense to drop some weight for hangar handguns, I know they are OP in LR.
>>
>>23059951
just wait until you get the CROW extention in silent line
>>
>>23059970
laser OE do fine to clear MTs, in that case you can keep the rifle and shouldn't have ammo issues, in fact i keep a missile launcher mostly for flying enemies or when the enemy get too far, and end up not using it most of the time
but your biggest problem outside the redundant missiles is the legs, in your weight class there's cougar2 that outclass them among others
and i don't know what booster you use but you should consider CR-B83TP or B03-VULTURE2

Currently continuing my playthrough of this series. Just cheesed Matthias so I can finally go to Another Age. You don't actually need to defeat him to get 100% achievement, and I only aware of that after cheesing him.
Now my question, if I want to play all AC3 by continuing my save file, do I play the PS2 or the PSP? I heard the PSP version improved a lot of things. Or am I wrong?
>>
Just finished building the Armored Core VI Steel Haze 30 minute missions model, was a lot of fun. Are there any other models from other franchises that fit Armored Core's sleek military aesthetic? Unfamiliar with mecha outside of it.
>>
>>23060450
Look up kotobukiya hexagear kits
>>
>>23060446
Why PSP AC versions are inferior to PS2 versions:
- Half the framerate, 30 vs 60
- Less available buttons, unwieldly controls
- No dedicated "Inside" button in LRp
- No dedicated dual-stick controls in LRp
- Mechanics tied to framerate don't work as intended (cooling, aiming, missile tracking, etc)
- Lockbox mechanics broken
- Sizes are smaller than intended, with extremely small sizes in LRp
- Lockbox is thinner than intended, visually hard to identify when upscaling
- Changed AI, making many encounters different from what was intended originally
- Massively downgraded visuals
- Texture quality significantly lowered, models are reworked to be much lower poly
- Most lighting effects broken - Areas appear grey, washed out
- Most misc. effects removed
- Ported from 4:3 to 16:9 screen, camera works significantly different than intended
- Screen is shifted up and out with a much wider FOV - Size of scale is different, player and enemies appear much smaller
- Camera is significantly looser than intended - Player AC no longer stays in camera focus, enemies often leave the camera as well
>>
>>23060489
I see, so I should stick with PS2 then.

hmm
it's all headcanon of a 6only but
these kinda brought the balam-dafeng situation together in my head
the two fat ones are balam's pre-merger heavy versions of melander frame
the flat head got offloaded onto dafeng when they were making their own ac
armored melander arms became tian-lao, which explains why they both look like and have the stats more like fat melanders and less like armored t-q
thick biped got retired in favour of the new t-q
thick quad got retired as it used thick biped components and was generally slow (it moves like a baws tetrapod), then after a while verrill was made out of two pairs of melanders glued together and worked out well enough to be put into production to replace it
the cores on both fat ones are melanders but not modern melanders, probably the c1 model (modern base melander is c2 and iguazu got himself a prototype c3 because he's a very special boy)
the lightweight rj explains why balam needed dafeng to develop ling-tai, probably previous ac generation that has been retired since to unify the model line
and bornemisza would be the last remnant of that time that didn't either migrate to dafeng or get retired

WE WUZ RUBICONIAN N SHIET!! I actually use a Zimm. I think I am happier being a failed metafag than someone who didn't even try to be on top. May sound stupid but I can't change. I tried. I started just playing ranked because it provided the quickest matches and didn't care for the rank at all. But everytime I get close to the next rank I start to get ambitious. I can't help it. I tried just playing for fun and not take losses to heart and avoiding anything meta but I felt like I was just coping with not being good enough. I am sincerely apologize to the funseekers for the unjust losses they received at my hand.

A zimm is fine, I use one too on my custom Rummy build and honestly I don't even mind the double zimm fags as much because I can take wins off them sometimes and even so, win or lose the matches end quickly. It's the rats that are the lowest scum of the earth, I truly believe they are not human. I can't see anyone that's legitimately having fun doing that as my equal.

>I am happier being a failed metafag than someone who didn't even try to be on top

If you aim for S I won't blame you even if you are a rat but most of the ones I met are low A scum that have been playing for hundreds of hours, they're clearly not going anywhere so that's when I start thinking how can you keep doing that and call yourself human.

Besides, you don't need a meta build to get into A. All my builds are made with looks in mind while trying to follow some kind of rule like only using parts from a single corp or custom NPC builds. Pic related is what I got A with last season and I simply made it with using both coral melee weapons in mind on a heavy frame, I have a build with every other melee weapon already and most are light frame.

Point is you can have fun and win at the same time, it's only S where you need to actually try for real and even then there's a lot of people that are good enough to get S even with off-meta builds.
>>

I think a simple way to make ranked better would be to bring in 2 ACs into a match. Pick one as the first and when you lose a round you get the option switch to your 2nd one, this way you can have possible counterbuild for when your first AC is hard countered.

Man, you guys aren't kidding.
Once you get to A, matchmaking just does nothing bur fuck you and match you up with pure meta slaves. Most of them are kites that can backpedal faster than my assault boost, and my boosters have the second fastest AB in the game. They keep going up as high in the air as possible when they're about to stagger so you can't punish them with shit or pop their PA with AA.

>They keep going up as high in the air as possible when they're about to stagger so you can't punish them with shit or pop their PA with AA.

This is the part that makes them so infuriating, I have to blow an immense amount of power to reach them even with the lightest mech you can make (I'm at 46T atm with a Yaba, I can drop to 44 using the VP-20S but going lower than that is impossible unless you go empty handed) and when I do often times they escape punishment because they're usually mid air, doesn't matter if I successfully stagger them first if the game fucks me over and I don't have time to reposition and react before they unstagger. If I land the dagger they're dead, if I don't I just get chipped to death. Tried the SAN-TAI like >>23058739 described but it didn't do much difference, I can get to them just fine with the Yaba too, it's being positioned properly for the melee hit / AA that's the match decider.

>>23066568
I'll boost all the way over to them, and by the time I catch up, I'm staggered, half my AP is gone, they have full AP, they've boosted away like 800 meters, and I'm at square negative one.
I have a friend that plays like this and likes to invite you to 1v1s and only pick watchpoint delta B for the map, of fucking course. It's his favorite map btw. I refuse to 1v1 him anymore, cause it'll just make me wish he was dead irl. I still like to join just to watch other people try to beat him though(they never do).

The design philosophy of the PS1 games is that all of the missions are piss easy if you equip the right parts but then there's that one mission that's bullshit hard regardless of what your AC is like. Unironic skill issue. The 2 Nineballs in 1 aren't exactly hard, second one especially kills himself with the grenade launcher half the time. I agree that the platforming part is an absolute meme though. MoA Nineball also isn't that bad, his later incarnations like the ones in AA are much tougher.
>>
>>23067445
I don't remember MoA NB being hard at all, in fact the entire game felt short, easy and underwhelming
>>
>>23067480
I find it funny that Disc 2 of MoA takes longer to beat than the actual game but then again the game is called 'Master of Arena' so Ex-Arena is probably the real meat of the game intentionally. I don't know if many people have even tried it though, the vast majority most likely just called it quits after getting through the campaign
>>
>everyone calls him "Jacko"

>>
>>23067477
>second one especially kills himself with the grenade launcher half the time
I've realised this too
>>
>>23067399
There's only a couple platforming missions before it throughout whole game, it's not really something you'd expect. Just another let's mess with the player because lmao things that From always had a tendency to do from time to time.
>>
>>23067399
I actually liked it. At least from a narrative standpoint. I also liked how the game handled the whole NG+/debt/H+/redo-story thing. Ambitious and original even by today's standards. I really wish from would try more of this experimental mold breaking stuff.
>>
>>23067530
Human+ is really cool but I've always viewed it as easy mode for scrubs which is really surprising to see in a 90s game, it's like FROM was saying
>we WANT you to finish the game by any means necessary
>>
>>23067502
Don't even need to intentionally bait him into it, I was just kiting due having around 3k AP left and he just exploded himself
>>
>>23067445
>if you equip the right parts
AC1 builds basically boil down to:
>good head (noise canceler and biosensor)
>the one good generator in the whole game + the strongest boosters you can buy until you find the hidden part
>wide and shallow FCS, MG500, small missiles
congratulations you now have a build that can faceroll 90% of AC1's missions with zero problems whatsoever
>>
>>23067343
you do know you could rebind controls ever since AC1, do you? you aren't one of those retards that never read the manual, right?
>>
>>23067343
Give 2 a try at least and keep tinkering with the controls, the game is much more responsive and the lock reticle is offscreen half the time.

It's not really that hard to stumble upon it yourself honestly
>>
>>23068107
Karasawa is solid if used by itself or with a blade, because it has limited ammo and you really have to try and aim well instead of mindlessly holding the fire button to win.
>>
>>23068107
I actually managed to find both Karasawa and Moonlight in AC1 by accident. No fucking way I could ever find AC2 Karasawa without the guide tho.
>>
Master Ex-Arena is probably the hardest shit in the PS1 Armored Cores, harder than the mission with platforming and two Nine Balls. Not even Karasawa can hit those cheating bastards, you are forced to git gud
>>
>>23068115
How many would by that point know that there are ac parts to pick up from the ground? I had no idea until I read it online
>>
>>23068132
What the hell are you on about? the karasawa has 50 ammo in ac1. Thats more than enough to hold fire without having a second thought about it for the majority of the missions.
>>
>>23068135
But the AC2 Karasawa is even easier to find. I stumbled upon both by accident while dodging enemy fire.

>>23067594
Like the chicken hat from MGSV, yeah it'd be really on brand for a fromsoft game to finally have an easymode that you can only unlock by being dog shit, it'd be funny if Journos complained about getting railroaded due to it, not realising they were admitting to being scrubs
>>

It's impossible to hit anything with a blade in that game

genuinely, what are you on about? who are you even quoting? You are the one saying you have to aim and be careful of your ammo, when that is blatantly false. And calling the literal best gun that carried every guide reading noob to the end of the game "solid" is such an understatement
>>
>>23068197
Just fly towards your target while keeping it dead-center in your screen and mash blade button. On bipeds you propel yourself faster than on boosters and autotracking guides you like you're a missile.

He just flies around and spams undodgeable missiles, he is only number 17 but I had more trouble with him than any of the stronger Ravens in the arena. Like not even the anti missile lock on part helps, his missiles hit you no matter what

Yes I know that's what you're supposed to do I just never managed to get good at it. I remember hitting some AC in one of the arenas with the Moonlight sword and doing like 1100 damage, thinking to myself

the AC1 'Sawa is a weapon so "reputable" to the point noobs actively used to get advised to sell it instead of using it because not only it lead to developing bad habits, but also has the very "solid" characteristic of dealing overkill damage against trash enemies like MTs and helicopters, being useless against planes, very situational against ACs, and as heavy as the cheap prostitute that your mother is

Last match was really fun. My terminal armor popped and he had some 200 AP left. I assumed (correctly) the dude would AB off, So I started chasing him. He turned around shortly before the Armor wore off to be greeted by my charged Oscillator.

Man, I wish I looked into making recordings sooner.

Not that anon you're arguing with but personally I find Karasawa to be pretty good against ACs in AC1 and PP's Arena. It feels like in MoA they made the AC fights more dynamic and therefore Karasawa most of the time feels completely useless in that game because you can't hit shit with it. Also lmao @ finger going from ~4000 ammo to like 500. From really didn't want you to win easily in MoA

>short draw distance
>dark becuase underground
Would be great if any prospective new entry came back to the oldgen style subterranean complexes as the setting. Just give the ACs headlights and have the player traverse mostly lightless underdark between pockets of civilization and some other brightly lit areas like the road networks, main transit nodes or some manner of pitstops/tourist traps. Then have the urban areas be really well lit with visibly paneled ceiling sky screens and maybe decorated with some rich greenery to contrast the otherwise bleak and barren world.
>>
>>23068585
I always thought it was spooky, being the remnants of prior life before the great destruction.
I think the great destruction itself would be an amazing setting for a new AC gen.
Honest to God, I hoped before that a new AC game would just be a continuation of ACVD, ACs being just slightly junkier versions of AC1 ACs, but with fully proportioned/evolved stature, almost indicating a full recovery from prior cataclyms. A final mission trying to stop, or activate the Justice Satellite Cannon would be kino. I'm convinced AC4-ACVD made connections to the AC1-AC2 timeline, and a nice full (apex in)circle story would be cool
