It resulted in an important running daemon of mine to get oom'd. From GitHub, bootchk's resynthesizer is like photosh*p's content aware fill (source code in the above folder). It didn't work super well on this task, and I don't think content aware would work better either. However both of those tools are great for certain tasks. That folder also includes the .xcf file, either for completeness, or for the rare case that someone wants to edit it better than I did (which is certainly possible). (Oh wait, that XCF file doesn't include edit history.)

For a project made by a single person who just barely knows how to make a game, and just barely knows how to code, is a game engine like Godot better, worse, or equal to Unity and Game Maker? Godot has its always-free, open source business model, node-centric design that I'm sure is significant to someone who knows better than I do, and is very lightweight and modular, but Unity and Game Maker have been around for such a long time that there are so many tutorials, stack exchange solutions, and free/cheap assets everywhere. My experience is a bunch of abandoned projects and the ever-slowly-worked-on fishing game I occasionally post about, all of which were in Unity. I THINK the runtime fee has been dropped for games that don't make enough money, and I hope I am in fact not dumb and can in fact read. I've never touched Game Maker and I don't see myself making anything that warrants the Unreal.>Making your own engine would-no
>>41382482I used Godot once and it seemed generally okay. Plenty of tutorials online to help you figure out how stuff works. One thing I liked is that all the project files are actually text, so you can open them in a text editor to do find/replace or other bulk edits instead of clicking on 999 different boxes in the editor UI. I did run into a few editor bugs IIRC, but as long as you save often and commit changes to git regularly, it shouldn't be a big issue.I'm mainly an enginedev and haven't used Unity or Unreal, so I have no basis for comparison there.
>>41382482I've used a little of both Unity and Godot, and imo both are fine choices if you know what you're getting into. For 2D games especially. A lot of things are similar and you can generally implement everything you might want in either engine, but there are some key advantages to both.>GodotI personally really like the node-centric design. I think it's a large improvement over Unity for organization and keeping all the components tidy. The fact that it's free and you have the guarantee that they won't pull some shady licensing bullshit is likewise really assuring (plus it's better to use and support open source if you care about that sort of a thing). There are more tutorials than you'd think. Most of the problems you can run into, as well as ideas you'd like to implement, are usually explained in a video or an easily searchable forum post. We're no longer in the "you need to figure out everything yourself" phase, thankfully. It also has the option of using Python-like GDScript instead of C#, which is nice if you don't know latter. It then translates it into C anyway so you're not losing performance, but it's easier to get into, especially for people without C/C++ knowledge. Though this is probably less relevant for you since the fact that you have some Unity projects means that you likely know how to C#. Godot supports it, too.I also liked how light and self-contained it was, compared to Unity's sprawling app (you need to install both Unity and Unity Hub, then always kept logged in to the latter). It was kind of a lot faster to launch for me.>UnityThere are A LOT of tutorials. That alone is nice, but that also means LLMs know much more about it. If you have access to Sonnet 3.5, you can use the AI to both help you design your project as well as implement most of the common things. How important it is will depend on your LMM usage.Note that I haven't used Godot 4.x, but back in the days of 3.x versions it used to be markedly worse for 3D games, and had no plugins for extra stuff like VR support. This might've changed since I remember them talking about prioritizing improving 3D, but I'd bet Unity still has it 3D done better based on experience alone. Speaking of which, some features are simply more rich in Unity. The particle system is something that they boast about a lot, and for a good reason—it's super handy and has (had?) more features and use cases than Godot's particles.Unity also has its massive asset store, which features some pretty good free, pre-made assets with a single button import. Importing them is not actually as good as you'd like due to the heaps of common errors that tend to pop up, but it gives you a head start when looking for assets if you're not using custom-made ones.

>>41382482From my experience:Want the best performance and better graphics? Want best performance for procgen? Aiming at 3D/2.5D? Unity. More functionality, better game performance, but long compilation and loading times, bigger project and game sizesWant lightweight, easy and fast development, better editor UI and instand code compiling on runtime? Aiming at 2D games? Godot. Lightweight, faster compiling, better editor UI, but less functionality and worse game performance (mostly in 3D)I'd recommend Godot for beginners if you want simplicity and want to create 2D games or simple (low poly/retro) 3D games (though 3D will still have worse performance than the same game made in Unity)But if you're feeling you've got enough development skills and want to make games seriously (and commercial), Unity will be a better choice in a long run. It's just way superior than Godot in terms of game performance and functionality, but this comes in exchange of disc space (several GB per project on average), loading and compilation time on every game run in the editor (this one gets annoying very quickly)Also you can try s&box, you can get access for free, and it's gonna support standalone game build so you can sell your game, so it's basically a free Source 2 game engine
>>41382482After really getting into the weeds with Godot's node system I can't go back to Unity since their ECS implementation is so shit. It's just a much more elegant system, plus it helps if you think less about it like you're setting up a visual scene and more like you're constructing a class and determining the relationships between each object.

>>41382602>>41382521>>41384162>>41385138Thank you. I'm not planning to port the fishing project to Unity because it's so far along in development right now. I fumbled my way towards making a seemingly fully functional save system last night. I do have a 2d mare shmup planned for later (which I have probably mentioned several times before. I have a bad memory) and I sense Unity may be the right choice for it, since I kind of want 2hu's wonky 3d scrolling backgrounds, and it seems like Godot might not be optimized for it. Depends on how good either engine is at handling a few hundred rainbow projectiles on screen. I did make a Unity prototype for it. It managed to maintain 60 fps with 500 bullets moving in a straight line, but I abandoned it because of how poorly everything was coded and I'd have to restart anyway.
>>41387411Correction: I remembered wrong. it cannot handle 500 bullets. The FPS counter is wrong and I actually experiencing seconds per frame. No, I did not know about ECS when I made the scripts
>>41387411That depends, if you're not using ECS or the Jobs system then C# in Godot might be faster for some reason. The main overhead in Godot seems to be the native Variant class which Godot uses to change one data type into another. This gets called a lot in GDScript since it's mainly a dynamically typed language and even if you statically type your data there's no way to completely avoid Variants from being created. However if you use C# which is statically typed you avoid this overhead which gives you better performance, and in some cases better than Unity's default C# because the GameObject Monobehaviour dichotomy has a larger overhead than Godot's node system. It's a bit a rabbit hole if you want to deep dive into Godot's performance and a lot it ends up going out the window as soon as someone brings up the "Just use C++ and GDExtensions if you care about performance" card.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v5SrgkC_dIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZvCCvo3AHchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNa0m2fvGOc

Best options are comments and hope.>>41388810I see the mare faces enemies at a diagonal to the camera. Have you succeeded in creating a "target lock" system like Zelda and Souls games have?
>>41389032GDScript is optionally typed, you can enforce typing by giving it a type during assignment or when declaring a function. When you do that Godot treats it as strongly typed and you get performance and stability benefits on top of it.
>>41389032>Have you succeeded in creating a "target lock" systemYeah, you can see it in the last video from 0:20 to around 0:40 or here >>41376950I guess it's not that visible, because there's no mark that would be overlayed on targeted enemy yet.

>>41390057Pony fan web sites don't require HTTPS.
>>41392475that's alotta rump
>>41392781Everything should be using HTTPS. Not having encryption as the other Anon said is just inexcusable now as it's free and trivial to set up.Really we're getting to a point where browsers will likely stop allowing people to even visit sites without encryption because it shouldn't be something the average inexperienced computer user should worry about or not. Even allowing such a thing is what allows stuff like SSL stripping to work still on sites without HSTS and etc.
>>41393670Also by "not visit" I should clarify to mean I can see browsers doing something like displaying a big-ass warning like they do with self-signed SSL certs and whatnot already, just to make it clear something very wrong is going on.Obviously there's always going to be some HTTP stuff out there and they can't fully block it unfortunately, though newer iterations of HTTP like HTTP/3 correct this mistake and don't even have an option for unencrypted traffic. In the past few years though things have reached a point where pretty much all major websites people are loading in browsers are using some sort of HTTPS as these stats show: https://transparencyreport.google.com/https/overview?hl=enChrome already downgraded sites using HTTP to being classified as "not secure" years ago for instance: https://venturebeat.com/business/chrome-will-start-marking-all-http-sites-as-not-secure-in-july/And such options exist already in browsers to enable HTTPS-only mode, tis the default too in a browser like Tor, so it really wouldn't be too hard to enable. For some other reasons I forgot too, visiting insecure sites while you may not think is a big deal on some random pony site for the purposes of privacy still opens you up to MITM attacks. An attacker (e.g. random internet cafe haxxor or your ISP) can totally rewrite the page, for instance adding some sort of JS malware or links to phishing etc into an otherwise trusted site.Note this also the case with other programs on the computer. While a having a virus locally kinda screws you over it takes less for a virus to rewrite network traffic, something such a thing would be incapable of doing if it was encrypted because only the browser process would be capable of properly decrypting it.This is done a lot in fact already, I've had ISPs in the past inject bullshit into webpages to say if you were getting close to a data limit, and of course in the past other programs on the computer like adware have injected stuff into the page this way (stuff like Superfish did even through TLS due to a root CA being installed on the machine so this method is hardly foolproof but yeah, it adds a bit of protection none the less).Tldr, get your shit together and add encryption, you are just a shit dev if you don't have it and no one will take your stuff seriously without it.
>>41390057>>41393670The login page is already encrypted. The websocket traffic is encrypted at the application layer using http://www.noiseprotocol.org/ (this is part of the security story for connecting to untrusted game servers), and as far as I know, there's no benefit in adding a second layer of encryption by switching to wss://. Only static files are currently served via HTTP.>it's free and trivial to set upLast I checked, it was nontrivial to set up HTTPS when hosting with S3 on a custom domain. If I move to a different hosting setup (which I've been considering for other reasons), then I'll enable encryption if there's a reasonable way to do it.
>>41393890There's no way, so much stuff on the internet uses AWS, if anything it should be easier than doing it manually. No way a big company would make it that nontrivial to set up when literally everyone will want it.Never used AWS though so idk, but it's pretty simple to set up doing things manually so I'd expect these wank cloud providers to make it easier.
>>41393900Most stuff on the internet is run by big companies with dozens of ops people, where it's no trouble to have someone spend a few weeks developing custom automation for whatever weird thing they need (example: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/acm/latest/userguide/email-automation.html)In this case it looks like there is a way to set it up with fully automated renewals (which is an improvement over the last time I checked):>set up Cloudfront cdn with S3 as the origin>update dns to point to Cloudfront instead of to S3>create a new certificate in AWS Certificate Manager (ACM)>update dns with dns validation records for ACM>configure Cloudfront to use the new ACM certificateThough honestly I'd rather spend the time migrating off S3 entirely
>>41393890>and as far as I know, there's no benefit in adding a second layer of encryptionIm not a security expert, but I've seen some article that claimed that even if you serve both the encryption-code AND encryption keys over HTTPS you are still isn't secure as you could be due to a number of factors, like "browsers hostility to cryptography":https://web.archive.org/web/20111228144542/https://www.matasano.com/articles/javascript-cryptography/
>>41394132>even if you serve both the encryption-code AND encryption keys over HTTPS you are still isn't secure as you could beThe article's main point is that if someone MITMs the user's connection to your web server (or to any of the several servers your page fetches resources from), they can replace all your clever javascript crypto code with a backdoor. This is true, and it's the reason why I've considered enabling HTTPS for Everfree Outpost's static files. However, I don't consider this urgent because it would be exceedingly difficult for an attacker to insert themselves as MITM for another user somewhere else in the world.>browsers hostility to cryptographyThis part of the article is out of date. The article talks about browsers lacking certain APIs and support for low-level code, but browsers have since gained the necessary APIs (e.g. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Crypto/getRandomValues), and it's now easy to compile crypto code to WebAssembly.

>>41394550Networking is honestly fucking cancer, society would be much better off if the internet was only allowed to be static HTML pages.
>>41394604It's true, computers get faster and more ram and bigger network pipes, and the internet just gets slower, more bloated and ram-hungry, and less responsive.
>>41394604True. The internet has gone down hill since 2012.
>>41393706If you're at an Internet cafe, don't access secure stuff. If you're at home and your ISP is MitMing your connection, then get a less shitty ISP, or VPN to a less shitty ISP. >>41394604>>41395024>>41395032centralization is what killed the internet. what we need is to get rid of "social" websites like fagbook and corptube (they're rather anti-social when you really think about it). no, 4chan is not a social website, it's a forum board.fediverse sounds like a good idea tho.

OP, please do the login server fixful for EO. Seems to have broken like 3-4 hours ago.
I'm thinking of starting a clubhouse+movement of contributers. It's going to be an in-depth analysis review series voiced by AI on Youtube videos. It will also be posted on Fanfiction websites that allow for blogs or any written works. Then a Discord server since it already evolved enough to become almost like a forum. After that we'll create a hybrid website between an anonymous imageboard and a PHP forum devoid of javascript. We will have our own wikia and wikipedia page. There would be 2 separate channels; one for the normies like us to discuss and one for the elites who talk like they're Shakespeare and make /tg/ blush with how detailed they are in their analysis and perspective writing. It would include comics, cartoons, movies, TV Shows, specific video games that contain a lot of narrative like Nine Sols and Soul Reaver. We will have our own general on /co/, /tv/ and other places. We will include a "Best cartoons of 2010s and 2020s" list to share with everyone. I think I already made that one, let me find it in the next post.We will have our own articles written by the elites about how to review a cartoon properly and how to discuss it properly, forums will look at us and point "why can't we be like those guys?" not everyone is allowed on /elite/ only the creme de la creme and you must allow your posts to be edited. It would also include fanfiction with a twist, all fanfiction must be closely related to improving said episode, movie, etc. without turning into a rationalfic or a self insert. Meaning just take the concept and rewrite it entirely. Meaning take a good concept everyone agrees on such as the Alien Earth Wars and write a story about it. Take Prometheus and actually write it as if it was At The Mountains of Madness Giger style.Let me know if you faggots are interested in helping out ... moderating ... managing the Youtube channel. Pressing a button on ElevenLabs till the AI reads everything. Using tools to create video reviews on Youtube, etc.connections to articles, TV tropes, Doug Walker, AVGN, etc.

Has anyone here worked with the leaked FLA builds from the show? are they easy to work with and can they be ported to Toon Boom/Harmony, GoAnimate, Adobe Effects, Photoshop and even be used for rigging through Spine, Live2D Cubism and other stuff?
>>41440385very cool!
>>41442752I've worked with them. Depending on what you need, the difficulty could range from trivial to extremely difficult. But it's possible, and a couple of us have built tools to make it easier. You can find the files in original-fla-files and the XFL copies in xfl-files:https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1kk8Xb5Xht4wahyHYOIVpMRtB69eg3YhlYou'll want to first figure out what you need to do the full conversion. The options here are:- Nothing but the XFL files. If there's a tool that does the conversion already, it will probably run directly on the XFL files.- Batch processing using Adobe Animate on the XFL or FLA files. For this, you'll want to use our modded copy of Adobe Animate that supports batch processing.- Custom processing with the XFL files. For this, you'll want to use our xflsvg repo for parsing, manipulating, converting, and exporting XFL files.- Any mix of the above. If you need to use Adobe Animate (good luck), you can get a modded copy here that's usable for batch processing. The standard copy of Adobe Animate can't be used for batch processing since it throws popups that can't be programmatically closed. Password is >pic.https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/17hgz4fbIqYetvxHh2MX1KdTP6efIauUUThere's a file there called autoanimate.zip. The source is here, split between animate-scripts– JavaScript code that can be loaded as Adobe Animate scripts– and autoanimate– a python tool to automate running scripts on batch files in Adobe Animate:https://github.com/synthbot-anon/synthanimIf you need to do custom processing with Adobe Animate, you'll need to clone that repo, add in your own scripts to animate-scripts, compile & pack them with babel and webpack, and copy the results into autoanimate/animate-scripts-dist. After that, I would recommend patching (or subclassing) the AnimateInterface class, which you can use programmatically to batch process files. You can check __main__.py in autoanimate to see how to use the AnimateInterface class. If you're programming a tool to work with XFL files directly, you can use this repo:https://github.com/synthbot-anon/xflsvgYou can probably use it without any modifications. Just use the XflReader class to read in an XFL file, and create your own XflRenderer class to handle the conversion. If you need help with this, you'll be able to reach me a lot more reliably on the PPP thread.

I think that's what you're looking for. Note that the character assets change between clips (one XFL file = one clip).

I want to pony music but while my skills have finally caught up to my standards, my ideas are wet and limp. I've been able to make a couple of musics, but it's all just sound, nothing I've made clicks good 'nough with the long list of different music ideas that's been building up in my head. More importantly I want something I can animate along to, too. I miss when everything I made felt cool and awesome because I made it and I haven't figured out what a "better" is yet.At least I can draw the ponies for now
>>41447609Correct. The renders don't have it, but the FLA & XFL files do.That Discord image is made up of a lot of smaller assets. (Legs, tail, wings, head, eyes, horn, and so on.) Each asset file describes how the asset is broken down into smaller pieces, down to (DOM)Shapes that describe how to draw the primitive shapes using vector graphics. You can check the "Render traces" section in the readme here for an explanation:https://github.com/synthbot-anon/xflsvgA "render trace" contains the same data as an asset in an FLA / XFL file. Each asset is broken down into a timeline-and-layers table. Each time step denotes a frame, and each layer denotes a smaller asset or a shape. Everything eventually comes down to DOMShapes, which describe how to draw a vector image. If you want to import an asset into some different animation software, you'll need a way to convert these tables and DOMShapes into the target format. Xflsvg can help with that, but only if you know how to manually create files in the target format. Otherwise, you'll probably need to use some tool to convert the XFL or FLA files directly.

>>41449101>Using 3D software for 2D animation... -_-Blender's got a pretty good 2D system
>>41443452What if one were to use them for a video game? also can they be somehow used in Unity?
>>41449101Blender's Grease Pencil is amazing I wish more people would learn it but 2D animators are too stuck in their ways. I'm starting to work on some actual enemies. Here's a concept of a weeping tree enemy. Still figuring out the design.>>41440907>>41445445Thanks. Yeah, it's Godot with imgui addon. No FiM characters or Equestria, so I think I'm good.
>>41450654Excellent anon. This really excites me. The minimalist design looks great and is great for performance too. Do whatever you want, but I imagine a general world/game layout something like this. (in minecraft not using any hasbro assets because they will kill projects they could never make themselves). I can buy you a few beers/burgers if it helps it become reality. I can already tell you have the skill Hasbro doesn't. ponyville, plant based enemies> flower field, fluttershy's cottage, tutorial section>aj's farm, harder but still training on controls>ponyville urban, a lot more enemies, ponies fighting them too, rarity/pinkie/twi's houses are set pieces, boss fight is evil earth pony spiriteverfree forest, flying based enemies>entrance, zecora's cottage, bees/bats/vine enemies>ghastly gorge, platforming section with minimal enemies>appleoosa boss fight with evil pegasus spiritcanterlot, magic based enemies (changelings)>edge of city, large dynasty warriors scale battle you fight your way through>canterlot urban, platforming, surprise enemies>royal castle, big, pretty set area that gives you a break before the final boss fight with chrysalis
>>41449883I think there are tools to convert XFL into some Unity-supported format. I don't know how rigging works for Unity, but it's probably not the same as for Flash. I'm guessing you can reuse all of the images (DOMShapes), but you'd have to re-rig all of the assets.
>>41451048That's why I suggested blender, export the symbols as 2D segments and you can make a puppet rig with the armature system and then export that to Unity. I don't know of any free 2D software that could create rigs like that but ijt should be trivial to do it in Blender.

Making the first art for my game finally after doing a week or so of pure programming. It's for the error screen which should never be seen. Just gotta finish it up in the morning and cut it up so I can layer it properly in Godot.
>>41453573>>41453577Yeah Grease Pencil is cool, the only thing I don't like is that the drawing experience feels very slippery but to get around it I just make my line drawing in FireAlpaca and then I import the image into Blender and use the trace function to create a grease pencil object from the line drawing automatically.

ive been bored so ive dabbled in a "queen twilight sparkle sends another unicorn mare out to an adventure with friends" comic (or fic idk which yet, im more experienced at drawing) heres the first three victims and their short descriptions:>Mirror Eclipse - A bright, yet somewhat bizarre unicorn who studies dark magic. Her skills are impressive. Yet, she was rejected to join Celestia’s School of Magic as a student. Instead, she was given a task to uncover the mystery of Pony Valley and its deep perilous caverns: BitterWater Caves. She hides her rejection from her friends.>Belle - Mirror’s earth pony bff who is just as studious as her. Belle has a grand knowledge of Pony Valley’s history. When she isn't decorating the town, she's definitely in the library with Mirror Eclipse reading about the ethics of bedazzling your neighbor's mailbox. Belle is especially afraid of Mirror Eclipse leaving Pony Valley for Canterlot, but is doing her best to stay positive.>Mercurio - Mirror’s twin brother. A bit of a know-it-all, but means well. He works for Pony Valley’s Newspaper as a journalist. Feather thinks his sister is too foolish to handle the task Queen Twilight Sparkle offered her alone and joins the group.

repostan from /merch/Might as well gauge interest here, because I figure this is where people would care.I'm considering starting up a service where people could commission various custom pony tech. Some of you might know me as the guy who made the TrixiPod a few years back, although I might start this under a different name than the YT channel I posted that to, not really sure. I'm currently working on a Trixie Wii portable which is a hell of a lot of work and it occurred to me that it'd be neat to do this for other people as like a service or something. This is really early on in terms of concept and I'm not 100% sure on whether or not I'm going to go forward with this or not. Right now, I just want to know if there's any kind of demand for me to make custom stuff like this for the people of, well, the board to start out with, maybe wider fandom ponyfags could commission me if they hear of me but I def wanna start here. I would definitely be doing it mostly for the fun of it, I've kind of run out of devices that I use that I can modify because I'm mostly just a PC gamer but this stuff is fun so I wanna keep doing it. I can both decorate and modify hardware, I'm constantly trying to improve my methods (want to try hydro dipping) so doing more projects will also improve my skill.Lemme know if anyone is interested and has anything in mind. Always wanna see more custom pony shit out and about in the world.
>>41495583Huh, you make a good point
Have you guys ever been commissioned to do stuff?
cross posting from /merch/ with something I've been working on for quite a while. The prints in this pic are both pretty ancient when I was still catching my stride months ago, and the resin print is actually broken in a few places from being moved around (was just a test print anyway). I've done commissions before and will be opening them up again here soon, but for now I'm working on rebuilding stock from selling at mare fair. If you're interested I'll be updating my shitty website in the coming days as shit gets made: https://bluefaststud.io
