Welcome friends, ITT:We make and share pony art, with absolutely no pressure to deliver anything that's technically good (besides having ponies in it, which makes it good by default)Make something, share what you've done, and give feedback and motivation to help us all keep improving and creating! This thread's focus is art, but beginner or low effort content of any kind is welcome here. If you do want to post about something else like music, gamedev, or crafts, though, just note that you may find better help and feedback posting it in the /create/ threadAre you an experienced artist? Haven't posted any of my art here in a while, been busy doing secret santa requests for people. Wanted to post something in the new thread, so I took all the ocs that I drew and put them together. Most of them I designed myself, some had pre existing designs>>41601934Your dedication is insane bro. Really impressed you stuck with it all the way through. I think i did about 5 pinktober drawings before I got distracted with other things. Good job dude
>>41603436Lovely collage of mares. Do people just request you to design a pony for them in this Secret Santa?
>>41603436Dusty bin is easily my favorite. I will make sure she gets all the garbage to throw away.Anyway, I've been all over the place in terms of desire to draw mares / putting in the effort. Mare Fair PCD hit me good. Biggest point of complication for me is currently the face. Eyes seem so simple to draw, but I still find myself either taking forever on them or just making them look plain bad, if not both. I want to improve on this, but I'm still prioritizing working on general anatomy for now. For funsies and also to learn how to draw clothes and -eyeshadow- of all things, I decided to give Octane Red a mom. I hope she is a M (Y) would L to F, and that the drawings are acceptable. any criticism is appreciated.I think a great exercise in OC design and drawing in general would be to continue this family of Stellantis mares, one for every car on the LX platform. That would mean a modern Charger, and a magnum, but If we count the individual facelifts, that balloons to like, 5 mares. I dunno. We'll see.
>>41603436I love that cotton mare in the top right, simply but effective design with the hair making it stand out.

>>41603541yea pretty much, everyone gets a unique secret santa name for the event. I just made a post that said I'd draw a pony for their name. Some people responded with a design in mind, others just had me freestyle it>>41603564brooo that mare is so cute. Love the one with her laying on top of the car. Great outfit too I really like the hoop earing. If you're looking for critique I'll give my opinion. When it comes to the eyes, I feel like you could make the iris/pupil smaller or more rounded. Looking at the left drawing specifically, if her face was see through and you could see her whole pupil, I feel like they would be nearly touching if you followed the curve you currently have. I think they should ideally always have some space between them and be mostly contained within the whites of the eye. Hope that makes sense. Other than that the only thing that sticks out to me with the sitting one is that her body should fan out a bit more as you get closer to her bottom. It's mostly hidden by her legs but the way it is now it looks like here body actually gets thinner as it gets closer to her back legs, I think it should be the opposite. Curious what program you are using to draw. I think you could really benefit from some adjustments to your line size as well, making the lines get thinner as they end in certain spots. Kinda like the way you did her eyelashes but with her legs, chin, etc.>>41603901Thanks bro! Think nothing of it, was happy to draw your pony>>41604241unf but also im spooked
>>41604044Microsoft Paint.
To the Anon who asked for people to put mares in pumpkins with him, here you go friend, another slow day at work.
>>41604044I assume the OP being Patachu, this is the right thread to start.
>>41604044Don't know how well proficiency with the basic pencil tool in Paint would qualify me as a pixel artist, but here's my two cents:For me, it was working within my limitations. When I started doing digital art, I didn't have a tablet or a proper drawing program, so I did everything on my laptop's touchpad while using Paint. There's a lot of overlap between pixel and regular art in terms of achieving a certain look, there are just different methods you have to learn for the respective mediums. If you've already been drawing, I'd recommend trying to limit your tools while applying what drawing knowledge you have so that you can experiment with different methodology. Like this anon, >>41604719, I'll shill Paint because it's the easiest program for me to get the pixel look without worrying about a lot of the frills of a proper drawing program. That said, I know several of them offer particular brushes that achieve the same effect.
>>41605095twiggy twiggy twiggy twiggy, qt twiggles.
>>41605095Thirded for Paint. like idk about win10+ version but the one on win7 isn't that bad however since >>41604786mentioned, yes it gets the job done right for that job, personally I can't really do anything pixel using photoshop, you can but it's going to be a pain disabling all possible antialias and it's like using a howitzer to kill a fly.yes it's good to incorporate 2D elements like I did on >>41604786for that job you first need a base, to get all items and characters more or less on the same proportions. here, have a grid. save it. it is hard to find a decent base for isometric since adobe crap and co does not have any that is actually designed for that.>>41604786nah i'm not the op, but hey if i can help on this i'd be glad to.
>>41605447That's a nice isometric exercise, can I join you?
>>41605095(really, get a mouse, I know you have one, even an old one, if you need a good program like Photoshop I can get you that too, and a clean one, not the malware crap )ok i should also repack my version of mspaint.exe with all the stuff with several undo levels.>>41604044if you want, here, i started a thing, of course you can make plain 2d pixel stuff but myself i should make more isometric art cause it's fun. here's a 5 minute demo with ponka who will be our victim in a pseudo-3d universe, and some shapes just to make a demo on how to imagine the shadow projection being like, assuming it's from the very top. then you can also set your image definition by doubling the grid, i usually make things huge, so i can add plenty of details.Photoshop however will be useful if you want gradients done right - you can select an area, and convert the "sprite" you want down to 8 or 16 colors with more or less dithering which you can enjoy arranging your characters/gradients/items/sprites how you want, zooming in at 6 or 8x.
>>41605595sure! i'm going to make some demos here but i think i will rather scale her to like 50%oh also one interesting thing i'd recommand : think of a neutral place in the image you will compose that's on a neutral, unused background color, think of it like a green screen like every hollywood slop loves to use. it works the same, want something bg, paint it 100% green and then you can paste your pon anywhere. yes sprites in vidya just works like this for the past half century.ah one important thing but i know there are complete noobs out there. never save pixel art as jpeg. it is impure.
>>41605605Oh, it's no worry, I've had a tablet and a drawing program for a few years by now. The funny thing is though that I started going back to touchpad Paint drawing a lot like two years ago and I've gotten fairly adept at it. I almost prefer it over tablet drawing (and I've tried mouse drawing and it doesn't feel as natural to me as touchpad). I've likened it to digital finger painting in a way, if obviously lacking in a fair amount of ways. But for a good way to blow off steam and draw without a lot of worry, it's my go-to method. I do appreciate the offer though.
>>41605648ah ok, well i respect people like you.myself i like to draw using the mouse, mostly for vectors and pixels, used to have a vx nano, mx master and rn i'm going with the PerfomanceMX and i agree it works better on some design/stuff/style, to each tool its.. oh well.going to finish the ponka.>>41605605cause yeah the proportions are not here, head should be bigger and after a cleanup of the construction lines ( to evaluate space ) i should have planned that otherwise. blahi will try making her look more like this random donkey mare
so after a few arrangements and correction, let's draw the rest of the ponka
>>41605637Why is there smoke coming out of my computer, Anon?
>>41605788oh... shit, well I recommend at least a Pentium 90 MHz with at least 16Mb of RAM for the graphic computation, especially the shape tool that we will appreciate a lot in this thread. if you have at least 10 mb of free hard disk space it will be enough for your elements/sprites/etc.
>>41605811drop some shadows! not the most complex part. yes I cheated a bit if you can spot the difference.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4yfLPvGHrg
>>41605811Oh nevermind, its not smoke, its steam, steam from the steam apps they're sellingMmmm, paying Aseprite like an idiot!
>>41605991>Asepriteokay not sure if you're kidding or not. just in case of anonymous statistics, 1. how old are you, and 2. do you prefer to create content or pay shitty vidya.ponk status ; ok guess it's finished. last step was blending. find pixels, make a tone darker and darker as you get closer to the line art's pixels, that will make it smoother, and we want our ponkas with a smooth plot, right?
>>41606069A loose friend recommended it to me while it was on sale and I had spare dosh so I went and bought it.
>>41606072GG, retard.
>>41606072okay so if I understand correctly, you had the suggestion of a «friend» telling you to buy a game, versus the advice from a guy with like, 20 years exp in graphic design making a quick and as clear as possible tutorial on how to make pixel poners, just for you and for free.go ahead and draw a pixel-art mare with that thing.
>>41606118Listen man I already realize it was a fucktarded purchase like most games on steam.
You guys realize that acesprite isn't a game but drawing software specialized for pixelart right?

>>41605991>paying for AsepriteYou only need to pay for compiled binaries for Aseprite, and they provide the simplest instructions for compiling for Windows ever written. It is a nice program though.
>>41606191okay
>>41606128Yes, and it's one of the worst programs for the job. It's good for beginners, like MarioPaint was, hence Silver questionning Anon's age. >>41606329I dont fuckin buy random shit on steam anymore, barely play games as is. Really dont know what your problem is and why you're taking shit so seriously.
>>41606274Not bad, just draw as if it's any other canvas, but smaller. If you can, use a layer to trace from. Got any drawing to show?

>>41606336Stop downplaying your crime. Buying Aseprite is a Holocaust.>>41606360 Be harsher.
>>41606360Actually I started using Krita. Still trying to get the hang of it and properly learn how to use it.Even without knowing how to use it I feel happier creating art than I did trying to get gimp to draw a circle.
>>41606191I forgot I made a Twilight when I first got it years ago
>>41606364>AsepriteI just Googled this and I can't believe all the shill about it. Jesus. Yes it's for beginners, I agree. Even pros may use it but real artists will prefer an old Photoshop or GraphicsGale are pro tier. also LibreSprite's existence makes every defense of Aseprite useless. It's free--as that toy ought to be.Only long time Gimp users can operate Gimp.
>>41606426cute twiggles! saved
Back when I first started, my first pixel art 'program' was Piskel. It's simple, has layers, and can do simple animations if you're patient. Haven't used it in a hot minute, but if you're someone who wants to fuck around with pixel art without downloading shit, go give it a try.
>>41606571cute fae! love me some fae.

>>41606581An old as shit Fae! Probably done around the time I stopped using Piskel and started using Krita.Christ, I haven't used this in a while, but here's a lil piskel pone done in like five minutes. Using mouse isn't as sucky as I remember, but I don't think I'll be going back to it any time soon.
I tried using a spray brush to color and add texture to the stockings, I like how they turned out.
Really enjoying sketching in a proper book as of lateHere's a bretonnian royal hippogriff knight
So far I have found by far the hardest part about learning to draw is just picking up the pencil. Also what programs do you all use? I’ve heard procreate is a noob trap but I wouldn’t know why.

>>41606775for me, it's SAI2. their stabilizers play nicer with my wrist.
>>41606274Anon delivers !yes, that's a start, you now can do pixel art. make something more elaborated with that program that cost me the price of a [Legit copy of Adobe CS2 Premium suite from eBay- 4 CDs box] which is good to tell the gov to fuck off when you're controlled at work but have some design to do. okay get a refund if you can and use this instead.https://libresprite.github.io/#!/libresprite is the same but free since the base of aseprite was planned to be free open source stuff. i mean yes it's for having fun, but please gentlemen, it's not about money, it reminds me of the guys saying AI is cheap when they pay a monthly fee on ai generators or a grand on a gpu to generate 1024x1024 crap they can't legally exploit.>>41606364it's 20 bucks wasted once, i hope it is just a perpetual loicense, the actual rectal annihilation remains Adobe Creative Cloud. giving learning to draw ponies another chance is really fun. i used to get do autisticly mad at myself for not being able to draw anything especially ponies no matter how much i tried but I've started drawing the lines and joints and studying up with various bale resources and mares.horse and am now using my plushies and stuff as reference as well as am recreating pictures of cats in various poses as ponies to help sharpen my sense of pony anatomy. Im slowly but definitely improving. I'll retreat back into the blogfag cave i crawled out from now but thanks

I've uploaded art to derpi twice now and they site mods don't approve unless I ask them to in their site feedback forum. First time I waited three hours, last one was yesterday after 40 minutes. Yesterday's art immediately got downvoted by 23 people (I'm assuming by the staff) and had two negative comments. Anyone else having problems with derpi staff?
>>41617623What could you have possibly uploaded to warrant 20 something downvotes? I could maybe see it if it was something political in nature because they're pretty anal about anything with a politics tag attached to it even if its an innocent meme, but besides that and abuse I can't think of anything that'd get that immediate reaction. You didn't take Twiggles out back and give her the Ol' Yeller treatment, right Anon?As for the approval thing. From my own experience I think that's just how it is until you're considered an 'alright' uploader. Your art will sit in quarantine until someone decides to glance at it, make sure it's not breaking da rulez, and then throw it haphazardly to the masses. Some days were quicker than others but it usually to an annoying amount of time. Once you've uploaded enough though, it seems like you wind up only having to wait a couple minutes at best since then you're just entering what I assume is a queue.
>>41617695just that catbox image>>41616286But again, I'm pretty sure it was the staff being petty for me asking them to approve it for upload.
it actually has 32 downvotes in less than a day brohttps://derpibooru.org/images/3480056
>>41617757Ah, well that narrowed down the search a bit.I'm not going to sit here and defend >derpi staff of all people, but I doubt it's a pettiness problem on their part and moreso just the people who are browsing around for new lewds not taking kindly to what they'd consider 'low effort/quality' fap material. You'll see that a lot with anything that looks like its made in mspaint or by a new artist. Doesn't even need to be explicit for it to happen, either.
>>41617814If you upload as someone without account the mods takes you as a potential spasmer (thanks focking cbat spamer) that's why they are agresive with the uploads from unregister anonymous. I've see downvotes in twibooru too, sometimes it is cruel to expose your art at the discretion of others.
>>41617860I'm just confused what's so uniquely offensive about my quick shading practice for art? I've uploaded actual ragebait with less activity in a day.
>>41617865Idk men, loking at the things that are uploaded with your artist tag, you've had good times too (my favorite is the anon training) so, try uploading the sfw version?
>>41617623derpi is dogshit, i never upload anything to it. other people post my art there and I kind of wish they didnt. twibooru is better from what I've seen but it never looked particularly active. I'd just reccomend a pone.social account or pixiv or even deviant art to archive your drawings honestly
