Huzzah! Best Princess does it again!>/FSBC/Shining Who? Lmao! She's so good here. I love her! She has ZERO right being so impossibly cute in a fic like this, but hey, you won't see me complaining about that. Was this a Lunafic all along? Well, maybe it should've been!To balance it with at least a little complaining, what a lot of people said about the humor was true. Though there seems to have been an attempt at limiting it in the serious scenes, it wasn't great, I'll admit. One exception worth mentioning is the "Want some flowers or chocolate?" joke, even if it was so great that the author felt the need to explain it. Cookie-stealing Princesses unquestionably managed to make all of her scenes really good, though. It is greatly fortunate that we start on a Luna scene, then progress through some more, and end on a Luna chapter as well. Can we have that shrink banished for trying to derail our protag Moonbro towards Celestia? Also also, Luna was 100% in the right getting the guards and barging into Cadance's room. With the bug queen still on the loose and knowing how it went the last time, not taking ANY risks was the right move, and it's crazy that the fic berates her for it. She has it pretty rough in the fic for multiple reasons, not the least of which is Shiny being a goddamn idiot.Zooming out a little, the comparisons to Scratch were not baseless. The fic really has that same structure with a new reveal every chapter, and in both cases it was allegedly planned out ahead of time despite what one might think. The maids' "redemption" scene is especially annoying about this. "It was all dumb luck and a misunderstanding" is possible, sure, but not a very satisfying conclusion to that plot thread. The author saying in an A/N that he was "sad that nobody saw through them" is really dumb, imo. This wasn't something you could guess. The other characters are mostly more of what we saw in week 1. The fic continues to try very hard to show the reasons for their actions—sometimes without telling, and sometimes with Shiny's help to clue the reader in. I'd prefer more of the former, but it's not so bad about it. I still don't think the shaming of Shiny is fetishistic, and he does make a lot of progress to further debunk that theory, but the scene where he cries to Luna was a little odd. Nothing I would note if it wasn't pointed out last week, but "the shame of crying like a little foal, especially on the lap of one of the Princessess of the realm, starts to dwell in his chest" is a bit much.I'm enjoying the story. Not just because of Luna, but she's a big reason. Thanks, Princess.[VOTING]We're finishing this fic the next week, so it's voting time again. Some ideas:www.fimfiction.net/story/5764/kindnesss-rewardwww.fimfiction.net/story/375944/one-white-unicornwww.fimfiction.net/story/57956/integrationwww.fimfiction.net/story/57463/twilight-sparkle-night-shiftwww.fimfiction.net/story/328030/her-soldiers-weBut write-in options are good, too.
>>41736403Oops!I've got way less to whine about this week. Conversely, this will only make me whine about last week more! A few of the scenes this week really did manage to hit home. Namely, the whole first part of chapter 8. It was good, legitimately. Shining's fear, anger (and inability to stop himself from throwing gas on the fire), attempts to reason with and calm himself down, culminating in him crumbling in pure terror once Cadance really gets pissed at him. And the scene with Luna, where she jumps the gun on showing up at Sh/Ca's home and immediately just folds in on herself in shame once Celestia arrives and she realizes she screwed up. It wasn't perfect but imo it was all stronger than literally anything that came before it in the fic. Not completely free of dumb euphemisms/humor but it was noticeably far more on the level and damn, it helped a lot. The whole stretch of chapters was just... better. It's so, so frustrating that despite appreciating these chapters more, they only reaffirm what I said last week. The comedy hurts this fic so fucking bad. Take it away/tone it down and you've immediately got something that, if still pretty imperfect, isn't too shabby. I like seeing Luna struggling alongside Shining. I like the reveal that the maids really were just being hateful witches that shot in the dark just to jab at Shining anyway they could and happened to hit a bullseye, even if the explanation for their overall behavior isn't... great. I liked the Iron/Shining interaction (irrespective of how Bong Iron's dialogue is). Even with it being telly and laying most of their issues bare, the issues it introduces are well-drawn? I suppose I could say. They work. Like, you completely understand how and why the characters have them. Again, lotta telling fuels that, but still. It is utterly mind-boggling that the author could be capale of something of this acceptable, decent quality and decide it needed to be a [Comedy], too.I really am flank-flustered about last week, I think. At the very least I hope it can stick the landing, now, rather than feeling dread for whatever dumb dick name I'll get acquainted with this time.Voting for Her Soldiers, We.
>>41736420>A few of the scenes this week really did manage to hit home. Those that you mentioned, too, but the whole night garden chapter at the end was very good, imo. Extra points for the environment being surprisingly great. I can be upset at Shiny being an idiot sometimes (like when he wants to run away from Luna), but it's not a point against the character; on the contrary, it makes sense he'd act like that and basically everything about that chapter is good. Luna's problems and how she deals with them, the characterization of Celestia via the indirect glimpses we get from seeing how she tries to help Luna, the pacing and the writing. I wouldn't call this fic great, but when it works, it just works really nicely.>she jumps the gun on showing up at Sh/Ca's homelegitimately dindu nuffin>The comedy hurts this fic so fucking bad.But there's like... less of it? >wrote another 30k words in a monthWhat am I doing with my life
>>41743883Out of curiosity, approximately how much did it take you to write that 30k, including editing? I'm personally one of the slowest writers itt in terms words/hour, but 30k is kind of insane to me.
>>41743883That's more horsewords than I've written in my entire life. I think you're better off.
>>41743900>I'm personally one of the slowest writers itt in terms words/hourThat's a tall claim.
>>41743900I mean it's a little over a month since I finished the Nyx fic and I usually write for two or three hours a night since I'm the most motivated when I'm nearly unconscious. A thousand words a day maybe? That sounds about right but it varies.I've never been a good judge of my rate of anything. When I've got a project I just do at least something on it once a day and usually it works out.

Why couldn't I care more about a better idea? At least when I make video games I can start from a cleaner slate and have more potential in my endeavors.

>>41744261I don't see anything "cursed" about that. Furthermore, you seem more obsessed about making something popular than almost everyone itt. You don't (or at least shouldn't) create art for popularity, and especially not fanart, and especially-especially not pony fanfiction that's ignored by the vast majority of the fandom. There are many good reasons to write fics; horsefame is not one of those.>high-quality contributionEverything else aside, tamers should've shown you that this is not what people want.

>>41744428It's having to spend five minutes looking for similar words in a thesaurus until I find one that rhymes. And then finding none and having to rework that line. And then coming up with something good, but it doesn't fit the meter. No wonder those old poets did so many drugs.

>>41744460I use both, actually. I have never read a blog post from an author that went "I'm having so much fun writing these stories, but I'm going to leave anyway." It just doesn't work like that. I honestly wonder how many authors packed up because they tried chasing readers and gaining horsefame and it ground them down to nothing because it wasn't fun anymore and vidya or Youtube or sports proved to more alluring for them.

>>41745085Then I hope my pipebomb finds you well.
>>41745089Yeah like a horse person is any good at mailing bombs.
>>41745088HiE might get its fair share of “wish-fulfillment” tropes, but you know what? Those stories come from an unfiltered love for the ponies as they are. Every clunky self-insert, every questionable OC romance, every “OP human” story? All of it stems from a pure, undiluted desire to connect with ponies, to be with ponies, and to live in Equestria. It’s real, it’s unashamed, and above all, it’s pony-centered.EQG willingly sacrifices the very essence of ponies for the sake of selling a generic Barbie/Monster High knockoff. They took everything unique about Equestria – the magic, the otherworldly appeal, the vibrant non-human characters – and swapped it out for some bland, plastic human high school world. And for what? To cash in on a "relatable" high school setting as if that could ever do justice to Equestria.Anyone writing in EQG when actual ponies exist is committing a serious betrayal. Even if their writing is technically better, they’re still turning their back on what makes the fandom special in the first place. EQG is corpo-fueled slop, designed to erase pony magic, dilute the brand, and strip away everything that actually makes MLP unique. So yeah, call HiE stories cringe if you want. But at least they’re born from genuine love for ponies. EQG? That’s the work of a soulless sellout who lacks both taste and loyalty to ponykind.
>>41745088HiE is leagues above EqG because it treats the human as an other, an alien, instead of turning the entire setting into a crude mockery of 2010s ameristan with even more school shootings somehow.

I missed out on contributing this whole time because of a depression so I have a lot I want to make up for, and hope to create quality, comprehensive content to liven up these quieter years since we need more. I will always enjoy what I do as a baseline default, I just more or less consider it something of a bonus if it makes others happy, too. I think if we all really didn't care we would not be uploading to fimfic at all and our stories would remain in notepads or private google docs.I suppose to clarify that statement more: I was lamenting that, though I love my idea and will make it great, I am disappointed in knowing that it is not something people want to see, and my 15 years devotion is something lame and goes against the spirit of the fandom. Perhaps in the 'real world', or if the fandom were livelier, I could actually get away with it, but I will just have to accept that this once in a lifetime thing that has taken over my life is simply not meant to be, no matter the amount of effort I put into it because the circumstances just aren't there, and the inherent core idea does not appeal in the right ways.Anyways, to make content for success in this lingering fandom is a crazy idea because if someone really wanted that they would do the smart thing, jump ship, and just make a video game or other project where high effort, proper marketing, and strong hook almost guarantees a comfortable success, at least more than you would get here where nothing ever happens and non hie fics get 200 likes tops and all discussion dies when they finish.

>>41745132Anon, I hate to say it but >>41745612 is entirely right. Your ignorance of board and thread culture and the way you keep feeding parasprites as a result while also making yourself incredibly recognisable doesn't just make you look bad, it also shits up the thread and makes it worse for everyone involved. Stop taking the bait, stop borderline avatarfagging, start staying quiet and looking around to understand board dynamics instead of making a fool out of yourself.
>>41745024Look at the state of this general: the degeneracy, the despair, the low-effort posts, the ignorance. However, there is one thing the sinners of this thread cannot stand and will reel back in terror and pain as if they have been blinded by light and burned by flame: Equestria Girls. They will catch only a glimpse before shrieking "No hooves!" and stammering "B-Barbie!" as if it doesn't underline their ignorance and bury their own arguments. They will be hypocritical and say that the existence of EqG is pure corporate greed, but is that not the same view My Little Pony and many other shows were in before people gave them a chance? Why do they harbor such vitriol and anger towards more pony content? They complain that it strays away from pony as if it cannot coexist and enhance it; not even mentioning that EqG is arguably more pony than many of the later seasons of FiM where ponies are merely manipulated around like humans in all but appearance. EqG's existence has a requirement to juxtapose the two worlds by having the girls struggle with pony problems and probity, while the ponies themselves get to do more cute pony-like things. And don't forget about the music! EqG has great songs that are on the same level as FiM Season 1 and 2; can you honestly remember or say you enjoyed any song from FiM season 5 onward? So, why do they do it? The reason for all of this is because, like any good story, Equestria Girls is an allegory of the Bible.Think about it.The world depicted in EqG, much like our own, is a disgusting, sinful place full of hate and pagan Greek mythology which makes it very easy to despise. The Humane 7 are the apostles that have witnessed and spread word of our Mare and Savior, Twilight Sparkle, and that only through her are we able to pass through the gateway to Equestria where we will be in the presence of her and our Celestial Mother for eternity. The Holy Spirit of Friendship gives these apostles virtue, grace, and power to destroy evil, and those that walk with them in their adventures (mirroring the parables) walk in the spirit also. Every single man, woman, child, beast, and creeping thing in the show has been given an opportunity to be saved by pony; even Sunset Shimmer, a fallen angel responsible for vile wickedness, repents and is offered salvation. These are what we should look and strive for.Everything I've just said is true without hyperbole, and this is why these sinners hate EqG—they are the pharisees who do not believe in this new testament as it undermines their position and criticizes their actions. But it is not too late for them! Free yourself of the hate and open your eyes, ears, and heart to the good news of EqG. You will be persecuted and harassed for your belief, but fret not because pony will be with you. Pray and try to emulate the girls in their struggles to achieve harmony on Earth and in Equestria. Celestia loves you and will always be there for you! It's time to come home, Anon. Galatians 5:2
>>41745782I'm not reading all that.I'm happy for you or I'm sorry that happened.
>>41745455This comparison is, you know, dumb on principle for a couple of reasons, one of them being that it has the fundamental powerwanker mindset where everything is just a number and if something beats something else that means you can just create a pecking order of strength, which completely ignores how magic is more Elemental in nature and traditionally has strengths and weaknesses and counters. Harmony doesn't beat Discord because it's stronger, Harmony beats Discord because it's like tossing water on a fire. And Harmony in Equestria is consistently treated as the fundamental good force of the world, it and the unity it represents and draws from will always be a win button because that's literally how the universe works in the setting. Also, nowhere is it established NMM was that much stronger than Celestia. The fundamental truth about their battle is that Celestia did not want to fight her. Also also, Tirek was defeated by a manifestation of the Tree itself at its strongest, not just by the Elements, and could easily be argued to be stronger than NMM. Again, that doesn't actually matter for comparison purposes, because raw magical power and how magic works and interacts are two different things. It's the classic battleboarding mistake of assuming a spell that does X requires the same amount of energy it would take to do the same with conventional physics, and the character can therefore make a weaponized blast of equivalent potency. It's not how magic works in basically any setting. You could even argue that Tirek only had Discord's raw power, but none of his powers, which makes it impossible to judge things properly. Similarly to how he's not shown moving the Sun and Moon around. He absorbed the ponies' magic but stripped entirely of its qualities and details. Compare and contrast the Storm King stealing the alicorns' powers specifically. In fact, one of the points of the whole story is that Twilight trying to brute force her way to victory through power is the wrong approach, because Friendship is (the ontologically superior form of) Magic and it will always trump villains who are merely accumulating strength. You can even argue that's where Cozy got her ideas from. All of that aside though, I thought it was a good thing when season 9 retconned that graph by establishing Tirek never actually had control over Discord's magic after he absorbed it.
>>41745772New blood in dead thread>Let's kill it!
>>41745326>>Banishes discordYou realise the whole point of the her "banishment' was that it didn't actually work, right? Like, it's entirely there as a joke. But even if you assume it worked as stated and Discord circumvented it out of necessity rather than a doing it to fuck with her when he could have just undone it, there's still a massive difference between "can't physically enter a small geographical perimeter (can still enter it in non material ways)" banishment and "turned to powerless stone for a millennium" banishment. DYEWTS?

>>41745828No, that's not what I said you fucking faggot. It's great to have a newfriend here. But he's acting in a way that makes things worse both for him and for everyone else. Bad posts are worse than no posts, and if everyone here was acting like he was the place would be far more dead even if it was more active. I don't mind him posting about his stories and sharing his opinions, but I do mind when we have to trudge through dozens of posts' worth of slop because he's too clueless to recognise what he's dealing with and too used to making himself recognisable. Lurking to understand your environment isn't just a 4chan thing, it's basic expected behaviour on every site and a basic social standard irl too.
>>41745834You see, the portal to Equestria is actually a destructive process that then constructs a humanoid or pony copy.
The guy was posting and talking about fics a bit too much; we just want to talk about gay things here. Also, he was making himself very recognizable, and we all know that’s not something practiced in those threads.
>>41745772>confooooooooorm>don't make the fluttershitter cry out>liking good things is avatarfaggingI couldn't have written a better post to demonstrate the absurdity of adopting board culture to blend in. He's doing a great job, and I'd support him more if I wasn't busy.
>>41745846We do in terms of the specific thing that triggered the discussion. >>41745839No one worth listening to has a problem with him writing and posting cutesy adoption stuff or not being a degenerate. The problem is when he paints a target on himself with his posting style and proceeds to fail at the basic 4chan etiquette of learning which posts to ignore, all because the hasn't looked around enough to recognise the patterns.
>>41745862I know you lack basic reading comprehension so I'll put it in plain terms. The problem isn't what he writes. The problem isn't that he posts his stories here. The problem isn't that he's not a degenerate. The problem isn't that he posts cute pics (although that makes him a recognisable target when he makes missteps). Ther problem isn't that he posts art his wife made. There's arguably an innate issue when someone is new and makes very recognisable posts where every tiny thing that's wrong or dumb adds together to quickly colour people's perception of them and makes them an easy target for people looking to start shit, but that's not the major issue here. The problem isn't that he likes EQG. The problem isn't that he said he was writing EQG.The problem, in this specific thread, which specifically caused the garbage posts that filled it up, is that after he posted about EQG he immediately proceeded to fall like a clueless idiot for the first anti EQG post and made himself look like a clown by repeatedly engaging with the discussion even as it devolved into no u and literal pastas. It's like having a new guy at a bar order a drink and then immediately get into an argument with the drunkest person in the room. It makes him look stupid for engaging with someone who doesn't even remember what they said ten minutes before, and it makes the place worse for everyone else trying to chat over the shouting. It's socially clueless.

>>41745883I'm not convinced. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt by saying that he knew they were Doug bait posts when replying to them because he's been doing that all the rest of the time. At worst, his replies don't acknowledge how low effort the bait was. And, given that post earlier about going though half a dozen contortions just to post more pictures of ponies, I don't think that the provocation for that "confoooooorm" post really has that much to do with the way him replying to the Doug bait caused a larger reply chain than the other times he replies to bait. That's just because the thread is more unified in recognizing that Dougs aren't ponies. My position on the chain is that the Doug bait posters are trash, and should come up with better material. The replies to them were at least a little funny and he was doing more than his fair share of the work to keep the reply chain entertaining. And, most importantly, he should stop liking EqG because that's not a good or valid opinion.Assign the blame for a shit thread to the shitposters, because that's where it belongs.
>>41746120I save my wit for my actual writing, thankyouverymuch.
>>41746120Looks like his fic is already in the bin anyway
>>41746120Knowingly engaging with bait to shit the thread up isn't better. It's arguably worse, but at best it's equivalent. >I don't think that the provocation for that "confoooooorm" post really has that much to do with the way him replying to the Doug bait caused a larger reply chain than the other times he replies to baitIt literally does, because I made both of them, and as I said in the second I had to go out of my way to explain the first to you, because you've proven over and over that you lack basic reading comprehension.

>>41746120>benefit of the doubt by saying that he knew they were Doug bait postsThat's the opposite of what giving him the benefit of the doubt would be. Pretending to be retarded and acting like the newest newfag is objectively worse than even being a permanent shitposter, because it shits up the thread all the same but with an extra layer of conceit on top of it. The second worst kind of poster after the people who are never on topic. This behavior has been consistent with almost all of his previous interactions itt. He's generating worthless posts either because he's entirely oblivious, or because he's entirely fake in the way he chooses to interact with the thread, and both of those are signs that he should not be posting. The former can be fixed by lurking, at least for everyone other than the people who deliberately shit on the agreed-upon community rules because they think they're special and know better.

>>41747774>>41747793 is correct, and he's referred to as male in the card game too. It should be noted that the Journal is definitely one of the weakest pieces of non show material when it comes to canon.

>>41747774Hurricane is the most consistently male depicted of the six. Puddinghead is probably the second most, and depicted as male in the series. >>41748781What do you plan to fix?
>>41748835Actually now that I think about it it could easily grow into being more like a fix of how changelings were handled in general. But letting that urge grow to encompass even more is probably the last thing I should be doing.
>>41748653I've spoken to some notable sfw artists in person at cons and their consensus was "yeah whenever we get together we draw marecock for fun". For examples outside the fandom, popular artists had NSFW folders found after their deaths, and notoriously Disney artists draw smut of the characters, some because they're into it and some just to fuck with Disney because they're forced to keep it. I'm pretty sure every 2D artist who's old enough has drawn porn at least once.

>>41748872That's a misunderstanding with the word "draw". You interpret it very literally here and I took it to mean "post your art of", since that's closer to what this chain was about (having a porn side account). No doubt the vast majority doodles some on the side or when shitposting in a group, but there's plenty of people who choose to only draw (post) sfw pics even if those are less popular.
>>41749019If you're using the word wrong that's your problem.
>>41749024Except that it's not just a valid use of the word, it's also the correct one here. When you that someone is "an artist who draws X", you typically mean that it's what they're known for *as an artist*, irrespective of what they're doing in their free time. Doodling horsedicks in your notebook doesn't mean the you-as-an-artist draws porn.
