Communal Bump Green
Want to bump but don't want to just say "bump"? Add to the green! Additions must be only three lines long

>Be Anon
>At Sugarcube Corner
>See Mayor Mare
>rape
>rape
>rape
>Veni
>Vidi
>Veni
>Post-nut clarity hits
>Every pony in Sugarcube Corner is staring at you
>They look various degrees of angry and horrified
>"Anon, what are you doing?" Pinkie Pie yells at you; she's standing in the middle of the stairs that lead up to her room, and looking shocked.
"You ordered a stripper, didn't you? I was supposed to come here and do my routine, so I---"
>"Well, yeah, I did hire you, but not for the customers. My party is in my room, silly. Come on, every pony is already up there waiting for you."
>You step over Mayor Mare's thoroughly raped body and make your way up the stairs to Pinkie's bedroom
>Open the door
>Get on th-what the fuck
>Pinkie is a dinosaur
>By dinosaur you mean her mane
>It's literally alive and trying to eat her
>"Anon!" She shrieks
>You have to move
>You leap towards Pinkie, arm - and cock - outstretched
>You lock Pinkie's mane in a chokehold in one smooth motion
>Somehow, in the chaos, your penis ends up in her mouth
>"ANO-mPHgH!"
>You lock Pinkie's mane into a chokehold, the hair creature thrashing and attempting to snap at your face
>You instinctively recoil to avoid its teeth, driving your hips forward in the process
>The struggle repeatedly forces your cock out and back into Pinkie's mouth, the head hitting the back of her throat as you wrestle with the beast
"I think it's finally getting tired," you say, her mane now going limp in your arms. "You can get off me now, Pinkie." Your dick is still poking the inside of one of her cheeks.
>You hear her moan below you and go "Mm-mmm!" as she gently shakes her head from side to side.
>She starts getting the giggles when she grabs your hips and pulls herself forward, digging her nose, which is now drooling with spit and your pre-cum, into your waist and swallowing your cock.
>The adrenaline from battle is beginning to wear off
>You shudder as you're hit with the pleasure from inadvertantly throatfucking Pinkie all at once
>Buried deeper in her maw than you've ever been before, you cum inside Pinkie Pie
>The other party-goers hear the commotion and come out from Pinkie's room to investigate; a small crowd of ponies, with Twilight at the front, watches from nearby as you slowly swab Pinkie's throat.
>Twilight looks over her shoulder, back at the other ponies. "Is this how bachelorette parties usually go?"
>"Only the good ones," Spitfire says before turning back towards Pinkie. "Move over, rookie, I've got next!"
>Your cock is icy cold for only a flash as Spitfire yanks Pinkie off your dick and immediately envelopes it in her chest fluff
>It's only now that you recall your employer's very specific instructions to not fuck the customers
"Wait, Miss, I can't-"

Given they can count as resources, should I post links to my Horsewords & (You) panels? The three that come to mind focus on how to better learn a character's psychology and philosophy, how to learn that but for multiple characters and how they may interact, and how to start a story.
The oral storytelling panels are more examples of how you can have a sticking point and then just go. Probably won't post those. Next /mlp/con/marecon I'm planning on revisiting those topics since it's been a while since I did them and I've become less shit at discussing points.
>>
>>43537643
I'm amenable to that. Those and any other resources you think would be good are welcome.

You got it.
This is Horsewords and (You): Characters & Motivation from the OG Marefair. The focus is on the psychology (short term) and philosophy (long term) of characters, singular. Audio is ass because the panel was in a common room. No mic, no one to stop the dozens around from causing noise. Just a man speaking to those who would listen in the common square. https://youtu.be/4Uqj0orBS0s
This is Horsewords & (You): (You)rself. Apparently I did this Marecon of this year but I have no memory of it. Apparently it is revisiting the focus on characters (singular) and what makes them tick. I dread having to listen to this to see if I did it any justice but whatever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0obm3k1e2g
This is Horsewords & (You): Keep Your Friends Close from Marecon 2024. The focus is on psychology (short term) and philosophy (long term) of characters, plural. The focus builds up on what was spoken about before, as well as how two separate entities can interact with each other in both positive and negative ways. Due to setup, it starts around the 30 minute mark.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYtcqDtoTm4
This is Of Mares and Men. The purpose of this panel, same with some previous storytime panels, is to show that you only need a single, solid lump of an idea. Everything else can be strung up as it happens. No pre-writing, no scripting, no needing time to sit and think for minutes at a time. Don't need an outline to get started and to maybe even surprise yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRQbk6SBNdQ
The others are old and shit so if you want to go into other things I've done, do so at your own peril. Maybe this helps. At least C&M, I saw some anons taking notes and asking questions. When in doubt, ask questions.

I hope the content lives up to the name. Even if I spent some time unable to write, I can at least say I've been doing something. Even if (You) aren't writing a story, it can help with D&D and whatever else too. Had a lot of questions and a lot of answers count for any sort of fiction. Kinda surprised I've been able to do so many panels since only the storytime panels involve mares.

I had a similar experience for my first time too, putting yourself out there creatively is a bit intimidating at first. I'd re-read like three times to make sure there are no mistakes and it sounds okay to read. The first round of positive replies was very surprising. It was also because a thread I was interested in was languishing, I read a green, wanted more and decided to save anons from the mindless bumping that was going on.
>>
>>43541132
>putting yourself out there creatively is a bit intimidating at first
being anonymous helps. I don't think i'd still be writing short little greens around the board today if I had to use a name all the time.

sometimes I wonder what would have happened if the response to my first green had been negative though. I don't think I would have handled it well. maybe I never would have written anything else after that. I remember another Anon posted his first green in that thread around the same time I posted mine, and he didn't do as well as I did; I think he got one (You) telling him he was shit, and that was it. I highly suspect that was his first and last green.

Before I started on greens I wrote a lot. I felt nothing about it. I'd write something that would take up 60k words and then delete it after going "this is pretty fucking lame". My life was pretty dull and I was still in the process of building myself up to be more than nothing. I wouldn't have called myself human yet.
https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/34588777/#34588777
Someone told me that /trash/ was a real board and after seeing a fluffies thread I went back to /mlp/. First time since the board was new and full of shitpostery. Then I saw that thread. Saw Rare and beloved Twill. Something just broke. I had no clue about the greentext format and you can tell it took a bit for me to adjust, but I adapted. I started writing and I wouldn't stop. I couldn't stop.
I had no clue how good or bad I was at it. In a way, it didn't matter if I was good or not. By then, Jacqueline became so much of a focal point of my daily life that I spent 2-4 hours near every day writing. It wasn't just her story either, after a while. Spread out to different threads. Some for shitposts. Some for more goofy stories. Some were serious. Shit or not, I saw the constant lament on lack of greens and I just kept going. I don't think I ever thought I'd change the state of the boards. I believed everything was dead, same as everyone else. Because it was all dead, no one would care if I kept writing. Like a first public debut on the Titanic while everyone was heading to their life boats.
At this point, despite all that has happened and what I still have in front of me, I'm still able to tell a good story. Whether or not it's a green on a revived thread general topic or telling a story orally on a cytube channel. I want to do more. I want to explore how else I can tell a story.
It's not enough that I can write or tell (You) a story with my mouth words. I want to better refine how I see and think of things so others can write. I've never focused on grammar or sounding smart or "you should have good cover art if you want to write a story so you'll attract people". Fuck all of that. All that matters is how (You) are able to better understand your characters. What makes them people and not cardboard cutouts that exist for cheap cheesecake.
I write for myself. But I'll never matter. So I'll also write for my characters too. Their stories matter. They deserve to see some form of comfort and success for having barreled through their perils and managing to live through their trials. Here, among dead threads on a dead board for a dead fandom, they'll find their ways home.
It'll be seven years that I started, in less than two months. I really have no clue if that means anything. I have no cliques, no patreon, not a penny made. But I have my stories. I can show off what others have felt inspired to make too. Couldn't tell you why but that's not for me to presume but it does add weight to their stories. If I last another seven years I'd like to dig up this post.
>>
>>43540820
>Why did (You) start writing?
When I was a much younger Anon, I used to write fanfiction. I never wrote much, but I liked it. I was good at it. For some reason or another, I stopped writing entirely. One day, a year or two after discovering /mlp/, I was hanging out in RGRE and realized my disappointment in lack of new greens. I remembered that I used to write, once upon a time, and decided to take a crack at it. I was able to feel that high of writing again and realized that this is what I'd been missing in my life. I truly believe that if I were a pony, I would've gotten a cutiemark in writing at that moment.

The first time is now more than 15 years ago. I wasn't even into pone then, but 2hu. A lot of fics got written, but none were quite the way I liked it so I started my own.

Five years later, after losing interest in that fandom and after a brief stint writing pokemons, the very same thing happened when I was reading pony greens.

I'm still just as shit and only write boring crap nobody actually reads, tho.

The -attitude? Feelings? Committment? I don't know what to call it- is the reason I've read fucking kilometers upon kilometers of pony. All manner of irredeamable trash, fandom favorites, every genre, true gems that stayed with me and far far more completely forgotten.

I like to go on places like fimfiction, but nothing there comes close to the sincerity that greens have.

And I'll never speak to anyone about it. Not my best friends, not my therapist, no one, ever. Some part of me wants to share, not with those close to me, but someone who might understand, maybe. At the same time I feel I might lose something and I hate losing.

It isn't just petty ego either, it isn't maintaining the veneer of normalcy for people who are centered on their own. It's the notion that I can't in fact meaningfully take pride im what I read. It's the freedom people sometimes write with.

Not like word diarrheas or wish fulfillment. Something else, more intimate, that readers and writers are not aware of.

I can't bring myself to read regular literature, but I keep crawling back to some generals and keep wondering about the stories that never got finished.

I don't honestly know if fimfic is capable of sincerity. It's like a subreddit of updoots, social circles and big brain big boys. Big words because you're showing (You) know big words and are smart because your OC has an inkwell and quill. Fancy, flowery analogies that may not quite make sense but it sure sounds fancy and classy.
What stands out to you the most when it comes to greens? The good greens that make you want to covet and hide them from the normies.

Yes, Anon. I know.
Starting a story is easy. Anyone can do it. Finishing one is extremely hard. Even I don't finish a lot of my stories because I lose interest part of the way through.
In a way I'm jealous of the drawtists since drawings get a lot more attention and praise for a lot less effort than long stories. It's hard to get in the mood to write if all you're doing is a bridging part between more important scenes and all you'll get is maybe one 'nice'. But I still do it.
>>
>>43544317
>because I lose interest part of the way through
Do you imagine you will never have a rough patch with your waifu, or that it will be infinite fantasia?
>>
>>43544346
I'll get back to one of the two. The other I consider finished myself as I wrote out the climax so all it'd need is a bit of a epilogue. In the other I'm just starting to get to the climax and the build-up feels insufficient to me so it's mostly me being afraid of letting the readers down.
>>
>>43544372
There are no readers. There is you and mares. Only you and mares.
More serious answer is that if the progress doesn't feel right to lead up to what you want, let it progress on it's own. It may take a different path than what you want. They may do something that leads to a different situation entirely.
>>
>>43541340
>I write for myself
Based
>But I'll never matter. So I'll also write for my characters too. Their stories matter. They deserve to see some form of comfort and success for having barreled through their perils and managing to live through their trials
That's reason why it pains me to see dead greens. Their stories will never finish, the characters are stuck forever in time. Fuck you Ephemeral
>>
>>43544412
It's even worse because dead greens are so common that I've talked to a lot of anons that believe greens never finish but just die off. I'm proud that I've finished so many greens. Some are proper short stories, some are the size of a novel. At least one has turned into a full on series.
But you can argue whether or not they exist if no one cares to read them. No matter how positive you want to be, it is incredibly easy to swat that back down to a neutral viewpoint. Except for the pride of accomplishment.

Agreed. What's the point of having tags if we can't filter some of them out?

Also no comments or votes you retards it's supposed to be a pure archival site for greens. Keep green discussion on the board.

No, but you could estimate it by reading the OP of all threads, checking PonePaste's updated pastes feed, spotting greens in the threads, etc.

My guess is between 10 and 20.

>not seeing many oldheads who people recognize greening
What do you mean? I think certain generals are quick to recognize regular/consistent artists and writers but I don't often see any sort of widespread notice. Almost everything passed around tends to be very old.
>>
>>43551351
yeah, that's what i mean. it doesn't seem frequent for the people whose greens are passed around or in the pins of a general to still be actively posting new material
>>
>>43551530
To be fair, most of the greens in the OP are years old. Many of them are long, long gone. Every now and then one or two of them pops in, but I think they're off in other places like Dicksword. Like Notonefuck's trip popping into /rgre/ out of the blue a while ago to do some random shitpost chain with a few other writer's trips. Sad, innit?
>>
>>43550555
>4-5 more years
more like 13-14 years. old AiE used to go through about three threads a day back in 2012
>>
>>43551313
>it's strange not seeing many oldheads who people recognize greening.
p sure the few oldheads that are left have retired from writing and mostly lurk these days. and if they do write something, they can always choose to remain anonymous too. I hardly see anyone name/tripfag around here anymore, and there's always been a stigma attached to doing it. I could imagine a lot of oldheads thinking about putting their name back on but also being, like, "Well, i'm not gonna put my name on cause nobody probably remembers who I am anyway, so I'll just look gay if I do it."
>>
>>43551786
I did not get to experience that, I think I joined /mlp/ in early/mid 2014 or something (despite watching the show since early S1). Still 10 times the traffic as now.
Most high traffic threads were a mess. One could barely keep up reading it. I liked when it slowed down a bit in ~2016, you could keep up with a general even if you were not checking the board 3 times every single day.
The early days was an unorganized mess. Also the overall quality of greens was much better after ~2015. Early days were full of extremely short and quickly abandoned greens.
>>
>>43551805
There was once a time when someone else could write and post green while posing as (You).
But, nobody bothers putting that much effort into shitposting anymore so I don't bother using a trip. You can still tell who I am by the ponepaste account, tho.
>>
>>43551885
I do remember a few instances where anons would shitpost while using a certain writefag's name, just to make them look bad.
>>
>>43551885
Namefagging makes it easier for the readers. At least it used to. But one huge positive for archival purposes is it makes the posts searchable.

>so I'll just look gay if I do it
At that point, why even write if you're worried what others will think?
>>43551895
I never worried about that. If I had someone writing up a green that wasn't mine, it'd be easy because they'd have to write like me. If it was random shitposting and I wasn't aware of it, I probably wouldn't know but if it's not focused on anything I made who would care? I get why the con threads have trips for Purp and all that so you can point out what's official event news.

Unfortunately this is the dark ages dude. That means if you want a green, and nobody else is doing it, you have to.

Taking requests. Gonna try to make them relatively short.
>>
>>43549690
Some writers need to know they aren't writing into the complete void anon. You can't ask for storytime in your living room when you're in the other room listening to fillystep.
>>
>>43559101
NTA but Gonna have to agree with you. Something that was really nice about the old fandom was you had feedback on EVERYTHING. Even if your writing was total shit, you had feedback. It was great, there was always engagement.
I write a lot for the board now (I archive almost none of it), but I get almost zero engagement. When I make something relatively good, the responses are so few and between it still feels like I'm just writing into the void.
It's really discouraging when you work hard on something for an audience you're not sure really exists.
>>
>>43559123
The answer for me is to accept that you have no readers. You have no one who's reading into the smaller details that some may not get. You will never have many, if any, even remember your name.
Now that the doom and gloom is out of the way, you're free to swing for the cheap seats with every story and idea. You're free to put that molten emotional core into your story and hammer it out the way it whispers to you. You're free to tell the stories of your mares. They matter. If they didn't you wouldn't spend dozens to hundreds to a thousands+ hours telling the world about their lives.
When you're in love you wanna tell the world. But I also fully accept my approach is difficult because this arguably worthless endeavor is what keeps my corpus warm.
I don't know how much it matters but archive what you write. If you think those in the story need to be remembered.
>>
I do done a thing in /rgm/ with my old green (rewriting) >>43558413. I left a bunch of random ideas/drafts in the old paste so you can look at how much I suffer from writingblockinitus.

>I don't know how much it matters but archive what you write. If you think those in the story need to be remembered.
I might, it's just hard. Part of me is really attached to the old style of "if the people like it, they'll save it." But maybe it's time for me to move on from that
>>
>>43559355
Do yourself a favor and use libreoffice or something to write it and keep a local copy of it on you. You get spellcheck as an added bonus.
>>
>>43559358
>Libreoffice
Wow, that's a call back. I used to use it years ago, back when I exclusively wrote greens only on my raspberry pi. Honestly did some of my best work on it.
For whatever reason, nothing else has ever worked as good for the writing process as libreoffice. Trying to write in modern docs and docs-like programs feels impossible.

I can't believe I haven't thought about libreoffice in years. Thanks anon, I think I'll fish out my pi and start doing some stuff today.
>>
>>43559355
You can do both. An anon that cares will find a way to save it. Meanwhile you can also keep track of your own things. Having a ponepaste will also make it easier for others to read and keep stories that they like.
>>
>>43559358
Question. I often hear people talking about the software they use to write stuff, and I'm just wondering why it matters. I've been writing on notepad for a year now and if I need a spellchecker, I do my editing on a different website before archiving/saving it. Whenever I need a friend to brainstorm with me, I just send it in a google docs. So, what would change if I used a proper writing software? Is there something I'm missing out on?
>>
>>43559808
I've never written anywhere but the text window, anon. I don't think you need a program because you can write anywhere you like. Most browsers automatically have a spell check now too so your only concern is taken care of there. May be good for keeping a copy to yourself but it just never felt right to me.
>>
>>43559808
Automatic backups, quick navigation, and version history, all of which you get with Google docs.
If you just want to make a novel length rat's nest of notes and worldbuilding without ever actually writing something, Obsidian is pretty cool.

>>

One or two anons commenting in a thread isn't a reasonable excuse to not add it. And it is usually one to two anons. The boorus have comment sections, they are either ignored outright or you have a small handful of anons commenting. Comparing that to it becoming fimfiction is silly.

>You look down at your hand, covered in seminal fluid. It does not glisten, the light in the bathroom is not even directly from the sun. No, your bathroom has only a dark, off-blue hue from the ambient light of the day.
>You look at it for a moment, transfixed, then look back to the window sitting up by the shower wall. You can see the much more vibrant, endless blue sky out there.
>You look from it to the semen on your hand several times, before giving a deep sigh and sitting up off the toilet.
>The bathroom is just barely clean, or perhaps just barely dirty. Clothes litter the floor here and there, grime sits on only one part of the light switch, the sink...
>Whatever.
>You wash your hands and follow the motions.
>Outside of the bathroom, outside of your home, a group of two ponies is waiting for you. They've been waiting for you for the past forty-five minutes. The purplest amongst them looks to you, then between her white unicorn companion. They whisper something to eachother, you don't really hear what. You don't need to.
>"Please....?"
>"I'm sorry but there's REALLY nothing we can do about it.."
>"But..."
>She just shrugs her shoulders and hangs her head down, mumbling something. This sad exchange goes on between the two before you step close enough that the purple one stops the conversation entirely.
>"Hello!" She chirps, looking you up and down, grimacing for a second before she speaks again "You must be *Anon*....right?"
>"Oh, please tell me you are. We spent a really, REALLY long time trying to figure out how to find "earth" and I swear to Celestia if I messed up the coordinates again I'm going to scream...hahah, kidding! Kidding! I'm-I'm totally kidding."
Yeah, I'm Anon. This one to your left there is uh...
>"Rarity," the white unicorn responds, grimacing. "Charmed, I'm sure."
Sweet. Been waiting a real long time for you to come here.
>"Aheh...naturally..."
>"SO!" The purple one exclaims, stepping between the vision of you two "Is there - is there anything I can help with? Do you need me to explain a little of pony culture for you? Or...orrr....well...maybe we could talk about pony history and I could fill you in on..."
Nah.
>"Oh...but...well, it could take HOURS but..."
I said no, I don't need to know anything. The deal was pretty simple. Are you trying to queer it now you gargantuan purple faggot?
>"No," her face goes deadpan "Not at all, Mister Anonymous."
Then get the fuck off my property and back to your shithole.
>She looks to you, then to Rarity...then to you...then to Rarity. This goes on a while, before she just mumbles a soft 'Alright', leans in to hug the other unicorn and, soon enough, is gone.
>Rarity and you just stand there for quite some time. Neither of you saying anything. Occassionally you scratch your testicels, which catches her eye each time and always has her looking like she's about to vomit.

>There's tears, quiet, almost unseen, but still they are there. She dabs them away with her forehoof as quickly as they come, careful not to mess up her makeup. You don't say anything, you just allow the space to hold. You don't need to disturb the moment as it is, spacious.
>Eventually Rarity turns to your home, simply staring at it, her eyes analyzing each and every detail.
>It's alot like your bathroom. It lands somewhere between just barely clean and just barely dirty. Your yard has decorations...but they all seem out of place. The grass is shorn to a point of artificiality, especially given that it's dying. There are lovely butterfly stickers on your home bt the door, though they've begun to fade from years of sun damage. Your home has some delightful christmas decorations on the outside of it and within the window sill.
>These stand out given that it's summer.
>Rarity just looks, taking it all in. She takes in the slightly damaged curtains, the out of season holiday decorations. The yard ornaments. She takes in the asphalt leading up to the stairs that is even more damaged from the sun than your butterfly stickers. She notices the peeling paint that's only on the stairs themselves, but not the handle.
>She looks at the trees that surround your home, all of them half alive..or maybe half dead, ruined from climatic change you cannot control nor have any interest to.
>She looks at it all, then takes a perplexed sort of sigh, before turning to you. She looks at you the same way, like she's analyzing you, taking you all in.
>Then she asks it finally, in a soft, delicate voice.
>"You took me out of Equestria to live here?"
>Then it's quiet again, the air feels almost like glass. Or maybe like water. It seems so delicate, betraying some other depth that can't be seen. There's a kind of sadness here, neither of you address it directly. Maybe you can't.
Real crap-shoot, I know.
>She waits a while.
>"Do you suppose you could still perhaps be persuaded against the.."
No.
>"Really I hardly see how having me as a..a..a "wife" would...."
No.
>"Buh..."
>She waits again, a little less longer than she had before.
>"Why?"
>You shrug, ignoring the fact that your hand smells like your sour genitals when it comes past your face, the same way you have been ignoring the gentle smell of gasoline on the wind, or the wind chimes twinkling whenever the ghost of a summer breeze decides to haunt you two out here.
Your name was the first that came up on the list.
>"Oh.."
>"I...I see," she chokes for second, "and you really won't change your mind then?"
No.
>"Of course, so simple, I.."
>She looks around.
>Then...just sits.
>Big, wet tears bead up at the corners of her eyes, then run down her cheeks, trailing mascara all down them. Makeup that must have taken her hours now being ruined in a matter of seconds.
Come inside when you're done, ok?
>She doesn't respond, you walk past her and head back into your home.

Worst that happens is that it becomes vulnerable to spam or bots, depending on the details. Keeping the name to Anonymous means whoever can put whatever down. Given the level of esoteric ponepaste is on, I honestly have no clue if we'll see hundreds of conversations going on. If it's still only a handful of comments at all, it'll give someone some idea of the quality or flaws of the story. Or give them a chance to speak up on a one-way basis. Make it so you can't comment on your own greens and that'll ensure no astroturfing... presuming that isn't too difficult to include.

>Gradual human extinction may be an issue now, but you still have television. Thank god for that! Atleast, you have it sporadically enough that it still feels normal.
>You don't like to think about that, so you don't. You turn it on and are silently grateful that the streaming service you pay for is working this month.
>Like always you pick one of your favourite shows. Something you've seen so many times you could probably recite every line in every episode by heart. It's one of your adult animated sitcoms...the name doesn't matter, they all sort of blurr into eachother. Don't even know if enjoy is the right word, but it's good. It lets your mind dull away.
>You pick your favourite seasons, one of the early ones from when it was still good, you pick it and you lt it come to you.

>And just outside, Rarity mourns.
>Eventually the door opens and Rarity steps in, sniffling. Makeup on her face smeared, but seeming to have also been through some half-hearted attempt to clean up.
When's dinner?
>"You..huh?" Rarity echoes back.
When are you going to cook my dinner?
>"You can't possibly be expecting me to cook your dinner when I just spent the better half of the day, completely bawling my eyes out!"
I can and I do, so answer the question..when can I expect to eat? I'm hungry and I need to sleep eventually.
>"But...I...you're being unreasonable, atleast allow me a few days to get used to our arrangement and I assure you that I will make you SPECTACULAR dinners. Otherwise I must assure you that I simply cannot.."
No.
>"Is that all you ever say?!
No.
>"Oh, come on! I can't be expected to cook when I'm this upset!"
You are.
>Rarity lets out something akin to a scream, before breaking down again and stomping into the kitchen. You hear a hazard of pans clattering and the fridge opening, which proceeds a ghastly scream.
>"You...oh Celestia, you eat..."
Yes.
>"Suh...surely you d..don't expect me to...to COOK that...oh please,"
>You can hear her begin to trot back out of the kitchen, but you stand up when she does, turning to face her from the other side of the couch, staring her down.
>"I don't want to be here,"
>She croaks.

>Eventually she's out and there's a steak sitting in a cast iron skillet on a gas powered stove. She asks if she can lay down, vomit on her mouth. You don't protest.
>When she's gone, you take the thing bare in your hands and sit back down on the couch, resuming watching tv. You pay attention half way, if that. Just eating, losing yourself in the noise and the taste of the meal.
>It's overcooked.
>If you had to guess, she wanted to cook away the scent of fat and blood.
>You don't care either way.
>Time passes.
>When you finish your meal, you don't leave to bed right away. You let another hour of tv watching go by.
>Then another.
>And another.
>You remind yourself each time that you need to go to bed, that you SHOULD go to bed. That you have work tomorrow. Between each time you say you have work, you groan and quietly remind yourself that you don't want to go. Then that proceeds another reminder that you really should go to bed.
>it's four hours past midnight, which promises you won't be well tomorrow, by the time you finally will yourself to turn off the tv and trek to your bedroom.
>Rarity lays awake in your bed, trembling.
>She couldn't sleep either.
>You ignore her and shift into bed, getting into the covers and laying down next to her, completely naked.
G'night.

this is depressing. why is this guy being such a dick to Rarity?
>>
>>43564783
>This is depressing
Awesome!! That's exactly what I was hoping for.
>why is this guy being such a dick to Rarity?
I'm not sure if I'll continue yet, so keep in mind I'll leave probably most of the reasoning hidden still within the text.

But generally, he doesn't want to be there either. He has more power than Rarity in this situation, theoretically he COULD end this whole "marriage" and give Rarity back her freedom. But he doesn't, because he's decided he NEEDS to do this. There's little hints as to why he feels this way. But maybe the most obvious is that Anon is extremely nostalgic, to the point it's sort of killing him emotionally. He's stuck in a past that no longer exists and keeps reliving on a loop. When the future eventually intrudes (and it does) he doesn't know how to respond to it and just lets the depression, the misery, all crash in on him. He keeps reliving the same feelings because he thinks he has to. The future intrudes and he just gives up when it does because he thinks he has to. He does everything he can to avoid the present moment.

This is part of why he's an asshole to her. He doesn't want to be with her. He's not a rapist, but he's not a good guy either. He doesn't even want to be at home, but he thinks he needs to. The same reason he goes to work even though society is crumbling apart enough it doesn't matter....he thinks he's supposed to. It all forms the same reason he's cruel to her. For reasons hidden in the text, he thinks this is what marriage is. So might as well stick to the script. Especially if your scene-partner doesn't get she's in the same boat as you now.

Anyway this is just some of the surface level stuff. When I write, I layer my stuff with alot of symbolisms and themes. I'm hoping other anons pick through and discuss more and find my "clues".
>>43564005
>Just do it in prose, man.
I probably should. It's just hard, greens were alot more varied in their early stages. I guess I'm still there in development.

I mean, I guess nothing's stopping you from continuing this way, but I think I agree with that other Anon when it comes to having, effectively, prose in place of green. There should be a choppiness to a green
>>
>>43565103
>>43565821
I think the odd part is that anon is going halfway. Some lines are pretty concise and it has that sharper read to it because you're focusing. When you then see something that is multiple sentences long, you're being told to slow down. That each > segment has meaning, so you're kinda stuck focusing on something that could've been reformatted.
Good example:
>You remind yourself each time that you need to go to bed, that you SHOULD go to bed. That you have work tomorrow. Between each time you say you have work, you groan and quietly remind yourself that you don't want to go. Then that proceeds another reminder that you really should go to bed.
Could be:
>You remind yourself each time
>You need to go to bed
>You SHOULD go to bed
>You have work tomorrow
>Between each time you say you have work, you groan and quietly remind yourself that you don't want to
>That proceeds another reminder that you really should
I don't want to be seen as egotistical and I'm not trying to rewrite anything. That's more how I can see that segment getting cleaned up a little to keep to the flow without removing stuff and I know I already removed a word or two. It can be worth it to read through your stuff as you're typing it so you can keep track of the pacing. The mindset and mood of (You), etc.
>>
>>43565889
That is the most helpful advice I have ever gotten on green writing, thank you!
I don't think you came across egotistical at all. This was majorly appreciated.

Can you explain a little what the shift here is between example A (the original) and example B (the reformat). Why is it the reformat works so much better? I kind of get it, I can see how much better the pacing is, but having more insight would be wonderful.
>>
>>43565981
>>43565821
Just saw this. Really interesting. This description of choppy would track with the literary style greens evolved and solidified into.
My understanding so far of that advice given is that prose is effectively taking you out of Anon's POV > sections should be written much shorter and allow for a quick seamless transition between scene to scene.
Is that about right? Thanks again everyone for the feedback, this is awesome.
>>
>>43565981
NTA but starting a new line has more "impact" to a reader than reading a proceeding sentence.
>Little impact, with a comma
>Separate sentences with a period, or something similar. A bit more impact.
>Separate lines
>The most impact
Probably because your brain/eye has to reset to read the next line, each line becomes it's own entity in your mind. That anon also did some light editing with omitting needless words. That's another advantage of greens, the format lets you cut the fat way more than you might be able to with typical prose. It makes me consider writing my original fiction in greenform and then converting to prose.
>>
>>43565988
Again, some of the most helpful advice I've received on green writing. So when were doing greens, we don't really use punctuation normally do we? It's just line format. What does this look like when we are in a scene between two or more characters?
>>
>>43565990
>So when were doing greens, we don't really use punctuation normally do we?
Periods at the end of sentences are typically omitted, but it's mainly preference. Any other punctuation stays, since it's necessary
>What does this look like when we are in a scene between two or more characters?
Dialogue is it's own line.
>Be Anon
>See Twilight and Applejack
"Sup, Piggy?"
>Twilight's ears fold back against her head
>"I really wish you'd stop calling me that, Anon."
"And I really wish you'd stop making the Hayburger run out of fries before I can get any."
>Twilight's face falls and Applejack's scrunches
>"Rarity's right, Anon. Yer a sorry excuse for a man."
"Up yours, Appul."
>>
>>43566000
Amazingly helpful, thank you. I might try cutting more of the "fat" from my original as a style experiment. Thanks again! Appreciate everyone helping me to shine better as an artist for the community.
>>
>>43565981
Glad you're digging the advice! I've seen a lot get snooty or egotistical and that's just not the way at all.
>Can you explain a little what the shift here is
It works for me because, the way I see it, you're reading at the speed of thought. You are (You). Even if you aren't, (You) is the character you are seeing the world through. Abandon more objective third party narrative, focus keenly on what (You) see and how (You) take events. That is how you can maintain a consistent emotional core to what is going on.
Because of that core and that you are seeing (You) through (You)r own eyes, you can have shorter lines that are quicker, more stark, more concise and only given detail as it matters to (You). For example, you and I go for a handshake. I then do the weird hand slap secret hamshake routine and you don't know what is going on. Do you go through it and try to follow along or stop or go "what the fuck"? Have that subconscious layer on (You) and through your own selective narration and way of describing things, you build (You)r personality without having some goofy multi-paragraph exposition on what makes (You) tick.
>>43565990
Punctuation matters but more while talking. Under the presumption that these are thoughts and insights (You) have, you can get away with things being a little more sparse. Especially if (You) aren't so well read or educated. Everyone loves to write smart but with greens, you need to remember whether or not your character/viewpoint into this story is smart.
>>
>>43566003
This is so interesting. That line on thought is interesting for me, because generally my way of thinking is very synesthetic. Prose comes naturally to me because of this. Having this advice for putting myself into the perspective of others/my character is so good.
>Glad you're digging the advice! I've seen a lot get snooty or egotistical and that's just not the way at all.
100% agree. I'm happy we can both help each other shine better.
Honestly, I think people get like that because they're writing for the wrong reasons. I don't write because I want others to like me, I write because I want to bring joy to others. So anything that helps me get better will always be appreciated.
>>
>>43566008
It is a very awkward start but you'll get used to greens before you know it. A good thing I've said a few times through panels is that if you wanna learn more about characters, write them doing the exact same thing. Like four chumps walking into the same room. Everyone is going to see something different first. Everyone is going to be interested or repulsed by something unique.

As someone who's trying to get into green writing, I struggle a lot with the concept of "cutting the fat" as you put it. Whenever I get a writeboner I end up doing a lot of purple prose. I've even caught myself writing a paragraph in a single > like the other anon, to the point I wonder if I should just write prose. If I had to guess, it could be a problem with the "choppiness" that the greentext format is known for, I don't want to overuse the strength that comes with short sentences to emphasize a scene - but that leads to feeling like I'm fitting a lot in what should be a single sentence. Maybe I'm just overthinking it, but it feels like reconfiguring my brain
>>
>>43568322
>Maybe I'm just overthinking it
You are. If you're in editing mode, try seeing how your work reads if you remove a particular sentence or even just a word from a sentence. Do you /need/ an adjective there? Is this description necessary for what you're going for?
>inb4 but it's a good description/I worked hard on it/my writing will look short without it
None of these are strong enough to outweigh the question of "Is it needed?"
>>
>>43568322
The biggest thing is
>One sentence per line
>It can be a long one if really necessary since sometimes you do need proper descriptions, but it's still just one per line and never more
>Short lines make for intense scenes
>Don't interrupt those for descriptions
>That kills the mood
>But if it's quiet and tension is low, you can go ahead and describe how the mare brings a good up to flick her mane as a hint of red rises to her cheeks after your joke
>But only if that's relevant to the story
>>
>>43568634
>But only if that's relevant to the story
I have a similar rule in regards to story: After three lines of green, something has to happen that moves the story forward. It's not, like, a hard rule that I never break, but it is one that I like to keep in mind, and I do ask myself sometimes when I'm writing something, "Does what I'm trying to say here really need more than three lines?"

If you're writing well enough, then sometimes three sentences can easily be enough space for you to get your point across.
It's just enough for:
>A topic sentence.
>Analysis of the introduced topic.
>Final judgment on the topic.

If you can stomach reading some non-horsewords, then the opening paragraph to the first Bloom chapter of Ulysses is a good example of this.
>topic
---Mr. Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls.
>analysis of introduced topic
---He liked thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liver slices fried with crust crumbs, fried hencods' roes.
>final judgment on the topic
---Most of all he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine.

Those three sentences would be three separate lines of green; if I had written this myself, I'd be tempted to combine the last two sentences on the same line, but I probably wouldn't because the second sentence, the one about nutty gizzards, is kinda chunky by green standards.

Once we've moved past Bloom's ghoulish fixation on organ meats, the sentence on the following paragraph moves the story forward. It keeps the earlier topic of kidneys at the forefront though, to make for a smoother transition into the plot.
---Kidneys were in his mind as he moved about the kitchen softly, righting her breakfast things on the humpty tray.

This sentence moves the story forward by both setting the scene (placing Bloom in a specific time and place; breakfast, the kitchen) and telling us what he's doing (making breakfast; he's also dreaming of kidneys, which will motivate some of his later actions.)

This is a good example of how greens focus on efficiency. 500 words in prose can be a fraction in green. It isn't laziness, it's direct. Focused. Limited by the eyes/perspective of (You) in the story. I wish the fimfiction goons understood that it can be lazy but it can also be far more precise too.

Purple prose is fucking stupid. For one, you show how smart you aren't by trying to sound like a genius. For two, it's fluffed up to the point it has no purpose. It's masturbation for exhibitionists. I've seen them jerk off so much over muh word count but you read four paragraphs and it's just asinine. So little is said but it wants to impress you by using words no one ever uses in any practical situation.
>>43568322
>whenever I get a writeboner I end up doing a lot of purple prose
Case in point. Sorry anon but you've admitted that you want to jerk off for others to go "wow his literacy must be through the roof".
Here's a silly way to get my point across as well as only slightly make fun of you for having a silly habit: greens can have punch to them. Impact. Writing a green efficiently and effectively to evoke emotions is the equivalent of a solid gut punch. Focusing on word count, needing entire paragraphs and using flowery language is the equivalent of you doing some twirls, an anime styled dash with speed lines, and calling your ultimate attack. It might possibly be on par with that solid gut punch but you're taking so much more time to do the same thing that your emotional punch is going to be a fraction of what it could've been.
>Maybe I'm overthinking it
You are by default because you are saying you enjoy purple prose. Think of a short story. Try telling it as if the person you're telling it to isn't willing to stand there for twenty minutes for you to make your first point.

Fuck man. A measly 20,000 characters takes me a whole day. Actual long greens must take weeks. With short-medium stuff you can kinda just write as you go but longer stuff requires actual planning and commitment. I've also struggled with the fact that the greentext format forces brevity and discourages proper description and narration. It's hard to vividly describe a scene with single sentence lines.
>>

20k may be easy but 30k is exponentially less so. Nevermind more. You have to make sure the structure is solid as you go and that it all fits. You can build a deck pretty fast but a small cabin takes a ton more effort despite just being a deck with more walls.

Beware the long green format - for there are many that ruin their creative flow by writing themselves into a corner, going on meta diatribes, or simply losing interest and burrowing themselves in self-doubt. Long stories have to be planned before they are started. You need at least the ending thought out along with the major plot twists. Otherwise they will fizzle out.
