Okay so looking around the only thing at that price is a 2x12 fender champion, a boss katana or some Laney 2x12 around $600-750 range otherwise it's stuff like from line 6.
Otherwise everything else is well above your price.

There's no point getting a tube amp at your price point if you won't find anything used, anything that is around $500 new will be shit. You should just get a katana or save up money to get a higher budget.
>>

I'm more than fine with solid state. I just don't want DSP modelling.
>>
>>122800832
Why
>>
>>122800843
I want to have a single amp, not a spaceship with too much control. I also feel like an electrical circuit, regardless of it being solid state or valve, will perform better than something digital, but that might be caveman behaviour on my part.
>>
>>122800896
Get Kemper
>>
>>122800915
The Kemper Player is 700$. It will be infinitely more versatile, but I'd still need a cab (and a power amp, I think). For that I'll just get some used Marshall or that Fame.
But thanks for the suggestion.
>>
>>122800956
Save money and buy Axe Fx 3

Not some shitty amp from some dudes damp basement. Its 2024
>>
>>122800896
Most important factor about your sound in a conventional (non-digital modelling) rig is your speakers. So maybe get whatever amp you want for $200-300 and invest the rest in a nice pair of speakers for it.
For live playing I use a Hughes & Kettner Ampman Classic + a makeshift cabinet with 2x10'' Greenbacks, since solid state is much easier to carry around. I think overall it cost close to your budget, maybe a bit more since I bought it brand new.

>>122800108

You could get BOSS GT-PRO for like $300 for preamp. It's much more versatile as Katana, probably more tweaking available and I believe the COSM modelling is much on par with Katana's approach.

Buy the cheapest solid state power amp coupled with it + cheapest cab. You would have something much better, original and more fun than Katana probably by the same price.

After much deliberation on a new guitar I have decided to go with pic related. I thought about a strat or tele but I just don’t do enough single coil stuff, and my Les Paul doesn’t have a Floyd. Also wanted something a bit lighter than my Les Paul. Getting a really good deal on it. When I previously owned a Wolfgang special I found it cramped near the nut so I sold it for a prs custom 24 se. didn’t really care for that guitar much, sold it. If charvel made a Mexican guitar with Duncan’s or I could find anything decent used with a Floyd I’d probably do that but for now just going back to a wolfie. /blog
>>
>>122801315
I forgot to add that charvel has been going the route of gotoh tremolos even on their Duncan guitars which is weird. Why would anyone want a super Strat without a locking nut? Either make a hard tail or put a Floyd on it.

Locking nuts & floyds are but one of the snakeoils of the guitar world. A strat-style guitar can stay perfectly in tune with a conventional vibrato system, especially a good quality one like a Japanese made Gotoh, as long as it has a straight tuning peg arrangement, good quality tuners and a well cut nut.
>>
https://voca.ro/1ld9TBzBXGh1

Made this through my 2013 celeron laptop.
>>
>>122801441
What model was it? Gibson has about 1,283,107 different heel joint designs for its SGs and most of them are crap. Also they equip many of them with 490r/t pickups which are plain trash (mine was, swapped them along with the rest of the electrinics and it sounded like a dream).
>>
>>122801499
you should learn to play guitar before commenting on it knottaker
>>
>>122801499
It’s definitely not snake oil. Floyd rose bridges have their downsides but they are super stable. I have played Floyd’s since 98 and I’ve never had an issue with them tuning stability wise. Outperforms even the best setup on a fixed bridge let alone floating trem without locking nut. Every guitar is going to bind at the nut and allow strings to stretch under heavy bends and vibrato. Locking nut mitigates most of that, and so does clipping the string ends. My only gripe is that the fine tuners don’t have enough range for adjustment.
>>

>>
>>122801627

>>
>>122801582
It sure makes it stable, but for 99% of the things you might do with a Floyd, a well setup 2-point trem would perform just as well without 1/10th of the hussle, and likely also provide better sustain. Also just a locking trem by itself won't cure every tuning stability issue. Many lesser models do not hold up to use.
>>
>>122801592
You just said gotoh is as good which is at the same price point as Floyd. Which it isn’t. It’s a little smoother for light vibrato but it can’t handle tons of abuse.

>>
>>122801697
Erm no the sigma part about good quality guitars is the wood, hardware, how its setup etc. cheap guitars use cheap woods that aren’t as stable, they have horrendous setups, frets are terrible, nut cut terrible, bad pickups, pots, selectors. Funko pop tuning machines. Great guitars have graphite reinforced necks, direct to body mounted pickups, 500k pots, stainless steel frets, etc. not only do cheap guitars sound junko they play junko. Guitars aren’t something to cheap out on.
>>
>>122801740
It's fun but it's also work. Can be frustrating sometimes. I wish I knew more.
>>
>>122801627
Honestly not sure how you can be this bad at guitar.
>>
>>122801761
Having said that, a $2000 guitar will sound marginally better than a $1000 guitar, if both of them are made with the best stuff their prices justify.
Nowadays that parts and cnc machines are in abundance, it is quality control that makes the biggest differences, and cheapo models are just churned out of the factory without much care. You might come across a diamond or a lemon. More expensive guitars will be better looked after during production and receive a nice setup (unless you've bought Gibson).
>>
>>122801761
Id say these days for about 300 dallaz you can cop yourself a guitar with all the features youve described, which isnt alot of money. The setup, i agree, cheap guitars have terrible action usually, but its a really easy fiz actually, just lower the saddles and youre good. Dont know why they dont bother at the factory, takes 5 mins. Oh, and you can just buy top of the range pickups real cheap and throw them into a shitplank.
>>
>>122801627
Looks like a whale. Sounds like a whale being harpooned. Isn’t that a coincidence?
>>
>>122801810
It boggles my mind of what Im doing is wrong but if you hit different notes and different times it's 'right' Like what is that? Ive been listeing to Kejji Hanio's interviews and he has some interesting ideas. He doesn't learn any of the 80 odd instruments he plays which is inspiring but I'm not like that, Ive always wanted to learn. I don't know how I'm this way either. I just have to believe that what I'm doing is a good thing because it's all I know. I was doing this for years before the camera even got turned on.
>>
>>122801541
I'm being hyperbolic for the sake of this thread but it was a 2022 Standard, QC was fucking horrible though. I've played Chinese epiphones that were constructed better. Kinda ruined the entire allure of Gibson for me tbqh, just another American institution coasting off past prestige while producing an inferior product, I dunno
>>
>>122801855
One of the things Kejji Hanio said was that musicians should be able to use bad sounds too in their music, and that would make the instruments happy. I connected to that.
>>
>>122801783
Lower the goddamn gain before you pop your eardrums, and play to backing tracks, drum loops, theres loads on youtube. It will get your timing right, make you more deliberate with the choices of chords/notes you pick, ya fagzorg
>>
>>122801865
I had to play through quite a few SGs before settling for mine. Thankfully I finally came across a perfectly made one. Still got rid of all the stock electronics in order to make it sound as good as guitars at half its price.
>>
>>122801891
huh the gain never bothered me. I guess the Metal zone, BD-2 Morley fuzz combo isn't a winner.
>>
>>122801827
Yeah once you pass the 1000 dollar threshold guitars become more about binding, flamed or quilted tops, paint, slightly better pickups.

Unless we’re talking about fender or Gibson. The player series and most epiphones sub 1000 are garbage. The newer epiphones with Gibson hardware are good. The charvel / Jackson / evh Mexican guitars are good. There’s just something weird about the fender player series. Ibanez, Yamaha, schecter, and other Indonesian models can be really good. PRS SE’s are solid but the pickups are shit and their QC isn’t great. I wish 1000 dollar guitars were flawless but they just aren’t. Even as a 30 year pro it’s hard to justify 3 grand on a Les Paul traditional, prs core or American ultra. The midrange epis with custombuckers are a lifeline for people who don’t want wall hangers.
>>

>>
>giving Craig attention and not just calling him a faggot
and you wonder how he got that way
>>
>>122801865
My 59 epi is pretty flawless and played / sounded better than all the Gibson demos guitar center had. I’ve played some good Gibsons lately. It really comes down to the individual guitar. Which is why I’m so hesitant to buy guitars sight unseen these days. You can’t even trust that a 3000 dollar USA guitar will be perfect from the factory.
>>
>>122801943
Bro Craig is gonna make it, he has that glow about him, hes gonna be a famous guitar player in a successful band, swimming in pussy. Youre just a bitter hater, past your prime, collecting guitars which you never play. Many such cases. Sad.
>>
>>122801922
It's a shame that even 1000 bucks don't get you decent QC anymore. And I haven't checked brand new Fenders in a while but I've been hearing their mid range is shitting the bed which is a shame, because I remember those MiM/MiJ models being absolute bang for the buck when they'd cost <$1000.
Having said that, I agree with what you said about Indonesian models. All of them I've tried have been surprisingly good, I was expecting China tier, but it seems they are at least Korea, and hopefully might approach Japan soon.
>>
>>122801855
You have to like learn how to play the guitar first you know. How to fret and pick notes, mute notes you don’t want to hear, play chords, bend and vibrato. Guitar is not an instrument where you can just pick it up and play without putting effort into learning how it functions. That’s why music teachers have always existed.

Yeah the Mexican strats were always good just needed better pickups. I played a player II Strat the other day which is supposed to be heavily upgraded with rolled fret edges, different pickups, rosewood fretboard. The frets were nice but the setup was awful, trem was half an inch off the body. For 900 dollars I expect a guitar that is playable from the factory. Yamaha and schecter for instance sell guitars that are nearly perfectly setup. Revstars are beautiful instruments. It’s a shame we can’t have the Strat equivalent on the market. (Pacificas are butt ugly refuse to acknowledge them.)

Someone just needs to start making fenders at the 1k price point and do them right (not PRS)

>>
>>122802092
Perhaps if you want traditional Fender shapes it's worth going the Partscaster route, if you know how to solder and setup a guitar, $1000 should get you a nice instrument, on par with the good old MiMs. And more personalized.
>>
>>122802144
I’ve been pissed off at enough fenders that I don’t really want one. I had a player series Strat that had the sloppiest neck I’ve ever encountered. Just fretting barre chords would change the pitch a semi tone. Even the American Strat I owned was a pig to dial in. The hardware feels cheap. Idk maybe some are good
>>
>>122802113
It had perfect action, barely had to press the string for it to sit on the board, thin slick little frets, a nice wide neck, strings nicely spaced out for my gorilla hands. The pickups were singing, what more can you ask of a huitar, really? Its all placebo preferences past that.

So, I have an epiphone Les paul - nothing expensive or truly professional. I have a $25 Honeytone amp which actually sounds pretty good at low volumes and is All I need for practice. I don’t mean to sound like I’m full of myself but I’m professionally taught and I’ve been playing for 30 years. I used to practice 8 hours a day. Guitar is subjective to an extent but I haven’t heard anyone on this board that is at my level.

At what price point do you start seeing diminishing returns on guitars?

>>
>>122802508
Honestly as soon as you get past a few hundred dollars. Not saying it isn't worth getting a better instrument though, thats just where you start seeing diminishing returns. A 300 dollar guitar is likely to be at least 2x better than a cheap 150 starter, but a 600 dollar guitar probably won't be 2x better than the 300 dollar one. Once you start getting past 1000 dollars the difference is mostly superficial things like the finish and prettier woods, or perhaps better tuners/bridge etc. And they will definitely get more attention in the factory setup because they don't want anyone picking up a 1000 dollar guitar and thinking it plays like shit.
>>
>>122802555
The main argument people use for choosing tubes over solid state is >muh silky smooth overtones, muh drive
The anon is looking for a clean amp. I'm saying that it doesn't matter whether it's tube or solid state. Solid state amps do have advantages over the tube ones

Holy shit why are guitars so expensive now? I'm trying to come back to the game, last guitar I bought was a korean LTD 10 years ago about 700 bucks and an ESP Standard was probably about double than that. Now a new japanese ESP with shittier frets is $3,000? Even my LTD has become more expensive than what I pay for. I have no hope in getting a new one now.

Unique guitar colors make you look dumb. There’s a reason pros stick to standard color schemes. Aside from EVH who ended up playing standard colors later in his career almost every super well known guitarist sticks with standard shapes and basic colors. It’s a classic look

A good refret costs 300 dollars. It's a literal scam anyone can hammer in a piece of metal into some wood.
>>
>>122803177
Nah unfortunately you need them for a lot of covers. It bugs me that the barrier for entry on getting a solid cover rig is so high. Tunings can at least be solved with polyphonic pitch shifting mostly.. but you still have to have a PAF guitar, Floyd rose guitar, and single coil Strat at the bare minimum. EMG if you need that specific tone.
>>
>>122803410
>covers
Yes sorry, I didn't mean to exclude actual 13 year olds
>>
>>122803382
You know how much work goes into a refret? You have to hammer the old ones out, clean all the cavities, glue and hammer the new ones in, clip them, crown the edges, file and sand, level, dress, do a complete setup and intonate. It’s probably 12 hours worth of work and requires a ton of knowledge to do it right. 300 is a steal

I watched a cover band the other week. Not kidding they had a singer, three guitarists, a bass player who just seemed to keep resting his bass to the side to get a drink, and a drummer on a stage that could barely fit the drumkit on and wasn't even wide enough for them all to stand on.

I doubt it, you need a lot of experimenting with mic positions and have a good room to have a good tone. The issue with ampsims is mostly the impulses don't match the amp. But again like real amps you need a lot of experimenting, and with the quality of recent tech you can get further than your regular real amp setup. Also the presets that come with amp sims usually suck so you have to go hunt for a lot of 3rd party (or match Eq your fav albums yourself) but the potential is there.

Plenty loud enough for garage practice, pissing of neighbors if you live in an apartment complex, or for a teenager who wants to piss off their parents. I'd recommend the cheaper one just because the 40w 1x12 is too fucking loud inside halfway to 1.
