The journey is not over yet friends, we are now going back in time even more to talk about the music from 1990. Admittedly I have not listened to much music from this year. But honestly, this top 3 is really all you need.

Honestly not the best of years. Outside of two or three big releases a lot of it is kinda chaff
>>
Compared to 1980 this is depressing. Zero excitement, noone knows where to go or what to do with themselves.
Sonic Youth signed to a major and it shows. Goo is fine (=stagnation). I expect the next one to be low effort trash, and after that they'll be turning into NY art gallery dwellers. Sonic Middle Age.

What else is there?
Fear of a Black Planet?

You guys are right. Outside of a few obvious gems, this was a boring year. Even some of the years in the 2000s were better for music than this.

Absolute metal mastery in this year. I would include Repeater and Ben Hur but the chart looks better just going supremacist mode.

btw even if you guys hate most boomer metal, some of you might really like that Moral Decay demo, it's basically a transitional release between ambitious bleak civilization falling on itself And Justice for All style thrash, and bittersweet melodic emocore, it's better-produced than most metal studio albums as well

Keep forgetting Rust was that late. Deserves a better year, like 1987.
I guess 1990 was sort of a consolidation year for Death Metal.
Obituary - Cause of Death
Incubus - Beyond the Unknown
and the Pungent Stench debut are my favorites.

But on the whole, I'd be fine skipping that year. Except for RIP we wouldn't miss much.

damn Nick had a good voice and was good at what he did. The man loves his 6 minute-long songs. Not something i want to listen to all the time but that was nice

Out of Time was '91

1990 was the year of An Emotional Fish

pushed by MTV (Europe), a band on the cusp, a band swept away by 1991.
Celebrate, this party's over, I'm going home.

I'm sorry anon, I haven't gotten into him yet. I think I'll like him based on my love for Tom Waits (if we made these kinds of threads for the 80s he'll definitely be in my charts a lot). What's your personal favorite Nick Cave album?
>>122951624

Thanks, I like your small chart, especially interested in that fourth album.
