I think James LaBrie is really good with lots of great vocal parts. His decline coincided with the decline of Dream Theater during the unconstrained Petrucci-Rudess regime without Portnoy’s influence and ability to curb Petrucci and Rudess’s desire to play tasteless crap. Need advice /metal/. I just started college a couple days ago. When I met my roommate I was initially excited to learn she was a metalhead like me. She even has a pretty solid knowledge of different metal genres and their history, which at the time I thought was pretty awesome. However, her taste in metal is quite different from mine. Her favorite bands are Jute Gyte, Deathspell Omega, First Fragment, and Gorguts, none of which I really like. She is also trans (MtF), which I’m totally cool with and accepting of, but her personality just seems really standoffish and cold. Later when I tried to strike up a conversation about metal with her and tell her about my favorite metal bands she seemed really dismissive and disinterested. She acted like she wasn't even listening or hearing me which I felt was really rude considering we were just two people in a room and there weren't any distractions except ones she seemed to purpousely event to avoid the conversation. Then yesterday, things got even more awkward. She walked in the room while I was browsing deathmetal.org on my laptop and she gave me the most appalled look I’ve ever seen. Since then, she won’t even look at me and she only gives me short, single-word responses when I try to talk to her. Even weirder, every few hours she gets in her bed and pulls the privacy curtains shut and I hear her making these soft muffled grunts. I think she's probably dilating but I really don't know. Things feel so weird now I wouldn't even dare ask her about that. I’m just starting to wonder how I’m going to survive an entire school year living with someone who acts like this towards me. Any advice on how to handle this situation would be greatly appreciated.
