Alphaville is a phenomenal album and up there with greats, and jazz isn't merely an aesthetic for them because 2/3 band members are seasoned jazz musicians (Steve and Kenny), while Zach is a metal guy and has studied classical (see his other projects). Their usage of jazz phrasings and idioms, the fine tuned dynamics is what easily makes them better than most metal bands, anyway.

Candlemass, pentagram and witchfiner have a much bigger heavy metal influence, and are therefore more true metal. Stick to the indie stoner pitchfork shit for normies. Try bands like dopethrone, weedeater, bongzilla, they would be more your pace. Accept that you have poor taste, clearly got into metal as an adult (or you are a teenager right now), and that you actively contribute to the degeneration and bastardisation of metal music and metal culture.

That was really the type of "occult" doom genre I would like to listen more. I really don't mind some "drug" themes or psychedelics, whatever, but those dopehtrone, weedeather, bongzilla type of bands seem to be carried by some sort of "drug" aesthetic alone while for bands like Sleep, EW etc. those themes just kinda came up with naturally and it kinda reminds me of "hippie" style experimentation with 'strange drugs' rather than some stoner rock psychedelic amerijuana stud fraternity "bro" culture
