I want to amputate my body if it meant that Fripp was given energy, I want to partake in blood rituals of the Necronomicon if it meant that Fripp would be rejuvenated. I would charge at any army, even a horde of violent savages if Fripp gave me the command. His instructions are my orders. His sadness is my depression. His pain is my agony. He is everything. Fripp is everything and nothing else matters.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aa3kCZRKj4YRenaissance are underrated IMO, they have some really long songs and a bit of a folk style, but some parts of their songs never fail to give me chills. Like a beautiful but indescribable feeling that creeps into my mind.
>>123919128except they are not and tarkus is great
>>123919138They are boring, it's the most by-the-books prog band ever.Tarkus and Trilogy are good, not great.
>>123919147That's only because the books were written about ELP
>>123919161doesn't even make sense as they were formed in 1970I agree they are good but they just don't experiment at all which makes them boring.
>>123919171LEAD THE BATTLEFIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELD AND LEEEET ME SEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I like prog rock, 80s music and maximalist art pop like Peter Gabriel, Tears for Fears, and Susumu Hirasawa, what is some other stuff in this vein? Should I try out Phil Collins Genesis?
>>123919171If ELP doesn't experiment at all, what other bands from that era did? ELP's first couple albums were inspired heavily by cut tracks from In the Court of the Crimson King, but went in a very different direction from that band. Tarkus was quite experimental for 1971, to the point where ELP earned a reputation for being self-indulgent and "masturbatory" in their exploration of styles. Hell, the first song after the Tarkus suite in the album is some kind of ragtime, not my style for sure, but they were trying some new, eclectic things. I can't vouch for all their work, but Trilogy and Tarkus are some landmark albums in Prog history.

>>123919307>derivative bandsMost new attempts at recapturing the style of 70s prog fail miserably. Steven Wilson's Luminol is one of the only contemporary songs to hit that prog rock sweet spot for me. (And I honestly think its because he convinced Alan Parsons to be his audio engineer for this album)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVC8Vtev3-Q

>Emerson, Lake & Palmer7.5/10, Great songs nothing amazing though, pretty good debut.>Tarkus6/10, The title track of "Tarkus" is a standout, easily one of the best pieces in the progressive rock genre, blending intricate musicianship with compelling themes. Unfortunately, the rest of the album doesn't quite maintain that level of quality, the rest of the album ranges from just "pretty good" to "wow, this is garbage">Pictures at an Exhibition8/10, fantastic take on classical music, with ELP's bold reinterpretations (AKA Butchering) adding a unique and exhilarating flair. The way they transform these classic pieces into something fresh and exciting is a true marvel, making this album a thrilling listen. Its energetic arrangements and virtuosic performance >Trilogy7.5/10, Trilogy showcases ELP's signature blend of complex compositions and rich melodies, delivering a strong overall experience. While some tracks shine with impressive musicality and innovation, others feel a bit more conventional. Overall, the album strikes a fine balance between high-energy rock and symphonic elegance>Brain Salad Surgery9/10, Brain Salad Surgery is a remarkable album that really showcases ELP's creativity and musicianship. The blend of rock and orchestral elements creates a unique sound that's both ambitious and engaging. With standout tracks and a few bold experiments, it captures the band's essence beautifully, their best album by far.>Works Vol. 1 & 24.5/10, A mixed bag with some standout tracks, but overall it's more mediocre than memorable.>Love Beach4/10, attempts a more commercial sound but fails to resonate.

While its experimental nature may be polarizingthe band's remarkable musicianship and vision.>2 (AKA 1001° Centigrades)8/10, released in 1971, amplifies the band's Zeuhl sound with intricate rhythms and a fusion of jazz, rock, and choral elements.>Mëkanïk Dëstruktïẁ Kömmandöh 10/10, Mëkanïk Dëstruktïẁ Kömmandöh by Magma is a mesmerizing masterpiece that exemplifies the band's unique fusion of progressive rock, classical and jazz, elevating the concept of music to an art form. With its intricate rhythms, powerful vocals, and immersive soundscapes, the album transports listeners into a cosmic journey through the enigmatic language of Zeuhl. it's not not only sonically challenging but also emotionally, and spiritually profound, showcasing the band's virtuosity and vision. This ambitious work deserves a 10/10 for its innovative approach and lasting influence on the progressive music landscape.>Ẁurdah Ïtah7.5/10, Released in 1974 as the soundtrack for Tristan et Iseult, this album explores Magma's distinct Zeuhl sound. It’s filled with intricate rhythms and haunting vocals while capturing the essence of the Theusz Hamtaahk Trilogy.>Köhntarkösz9/10, stands as a remarkable entry in Magma's catalog, rich with complex rhythms and powerful vocals. As part of the Köhntarkösz cycle, the album showcases the band's signature blend of complex rhythms, powerful vocals, and an avant-garde approach that captivates listeners.>Live/Hhaï10/10, is an extraordinary testament to Magma's live prowess and creativity, The standout track "Hhaï" is an unforgettable track that takes you on a mesmerizing spiritual journey. The energy and creativity Magma brings to the stage are palpable, and the rich rhythmic layers and emotional intensity make this one of their all-time great releases. It absolutely deserves a perfect 10/10.

also bro they were the new prog, this is 70 right after Crimson, Yes and Genesis haven’t really took off yet… and they keep trying things, switching things up.I’m no fan of the saloon style, and don’t really think that counts, though.Overall I find ELP to be prog only for prog fans because it’s often so cringe and aged so poorly, but when their bad taste got out of the way for a few moments and they were good, they were really good. But yes it is baffling to consider they were quite likely the biggest prog band for years.>>123920600Well that’s dumb. Also related debate, ‘new’ doesn’t mean good, new can SUCK so bad, so often. >>123932983>someone makes fun of your favorite band's album art>get so assblasted you make a passive aggressive post phrased in such a way that you can dismiss any and all criticism as "bad faith" or claim it applies to another band (doesn't actually make that criticism any less valid btw)>"s-s-struck a nerve, did I?" he says, weeping and changing his diaperwhy are black midi fans so insecure? for what it's worth, I actually like hellfire's album art
>>123933028>zoomer king crimson with a touch of frank zappamore like arctic monkeys with a bit of miles davis
>>123932983>The Geat Deceiver is the exact same thing as Shit Midilmao, please show me a song from that shit band that support your deluded claims that they are comparable with KC
>>123933028iirc the head of rough trade literally said that black midi gave him the same feeling of seeing the original king crimson in 1969
>>123933026?
Black Midi is shit, but they are still better than shit like Marillion, at least Black Midi try to be original, still the only good modern prog bands are Swans and Motorpsycho.
>>123920303prog status is debatable, but Polygondwanaland and laminated denim by king gizzard have songs that use harmonica
>>123929167It seems he just made a controversial opinion then sarcasticly said it was objective. not really a big premeditated ironic joke, just sarcasm in response to criticism
>>123933249
an accordion is sort of like a giant harmonicahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTI-N6mfdHs
I’m updating Harper’s wiki since she’s an actual musician.>>123933363Polygondwanaland is fantastic and I’d recommend it to any prog fan looking for something modern. 2017 was a stellar year for King Gizzard.
>>123933293nu swans are terrible
>>123933623i like the new albums, but their 80s and 90s output is much better, specifically Children Of God, Soundtracks, and Swans Are Dead.
>>123933208Really?
>>123933606>I’m updating Harper’s wikiwhat about her wikifeet?

>>123934344Scaruffi dislikes nu-Swans? I'm glad he can see through the hype.
Holy shit the BEAT show in Richmond was nuts. Vai's gotten a lot better at the Fripp picking since the first shows if those early videos are any indication. Engineering could have used some work though, model man was too much of a wall of sound for my liking.
if black midi isn't mediocre then why is there MID in the name?
>>123931225i always felt Godbluff was slightly overrated, nothing close to as good as their first 4 albums, either way, i still like it, and i gave it a 6.5/10 which, overall is still a good score for an album, that said i probably should have given it a 7/10 at least. Still Life is a great album, but i felt like their first 4 were still better so i gave it 0.5 points less than the first 2 albums, World Record is decent, it has a decent 6/10.
>>123934735Scaruffi is very based. He also saw right through Radiohead and is a huge fan of Robert Wyatt, so I can pardon any of his occasional shortcomings.
Adrian Belew
>>123935251i disagree with him about post-reunion Swans, i prefer late 80's - late 90's Swans, but The Seer and The Glowing Man are great albums, The Beggar is pretty good too.
John Wetton
>>123935501sometimes
Tony Levin
>>123935251he also rates Astral Weeks and Lorca 9/10, extremely based.
Geoff Downes
>>123935501What the heck?!
Trevor Horn
is this worth it for ~$200?
>>123935567I'm not a Van Morrison fan, but Lorca is great.
>>123935287Lol
Robert Fripp
Peter Gabriel
Mike Ratledge
>>123936094lol
Do you guys allow prog metal in here? /metal/ is full of drug addicts and raging alcoholics.

>>123935691It's a nice box
>>123936295Yeah but 99.9% of prog metal is looked down upon here. Be prepare to be ignored completely or shat on.

>>123937801so do you agree that Kita is the most fuckable or not?
>>1239384798/10, their best album by far. seriously i don't know how a band as shitty as The Who made this album.
>>123939336I agree. I'm not really a big The Who fan, but I do like concept/rock opera albums, and I've put this off for awhile.
>>123934735>>123935251scaruffi is a fucking hack who jerks off bargain bin jazz rock far too often
