I'm a beginner acoustic guitar player. I got to the point where I can now easily switch between the noob chords Em, C, G etc. I have been practicing on a €50 guitar all this time and I realized how much better a €500 guitar feels. The strings are way easier to press and switch chords between. What acoustic guitar do I get? Anything more than €500 seems a bit too expensive for me, seeing as I'm still a beginner. Also, can I order online or should go to a shop and get one?

Seagull (Godin) makes the best budget acoustic guitars imo. High quality tight grained solid cedar and spruce tops, graphtech nut and saddle, can be bought used for around $300 all day long. Also playability comes from the setup, not the quality of materials. The 500 guitar will have a better factory setup. So your 50 euro guitar could play as good as the 500 euro one, its just not gonna sound as good.

Fifth fret was buzzy as heck on the treble side. Laminated top yeah. It's a Fender Paramount so about 350-400 buckaroos retail. Paid around 180 with a coupon.

Anyway, took it to the shop earlier today and they gave me another one no questions axed. I downtuned the old one to DAbEC to take some stress off the top and it sounded killer. Tuned the new one to standard (GDAE) but I'm not head over heels over the sound.
It's a fun lil distraction from regular-ass guitar but be warned they're not easy to play. Even just some phrasing over an opening tuning will assrape your hands unless you're coming from upright bass or something. I think the charango uses nylon/gut strings so I'd assume they would be easier on the hands. Completely different tuning but the vibes are similar enough.
Now if you just want something different to blow some steam I'd get a banjitar or ukulele.
>>
>>124386387
In the mean time you can switch to a lower tuning to increase playability.
I keep my acoustic in C#

No, the discount isn't good enough. You can get mint, used hollowbodies for way less than that.
On the other hand, have you played it? If it is an outstanding example, that you have played and seem to bond with, then yes, that is a good enough discount to move on.
Nice guitar, though. Good taste.

Trems suck at that price range. Unless you're jonesing one pretty hard, I'd go trapeze/hardtail and get a real bigsby [not "licensed by" shyet] down the line. Vega trems used to be shilled a ton but the consendus nowadays is that they're a meme.

>>
>>124393955
There is really no difference between 'real' bigsby's (IE B3, B5, B7. etc) and 'licensed' ones IE B30, B50, B70, etc

The main difference is the 'real' ones are sandcast and the cheaper ones are cast in molds, to the 'real' ones are actually made shittier/have aesthetic defects.
>>

>>
>>124395117
Play in time, metronome actually means groovebox, if you play in sync to backing track while monitoring, but then recording is not in sync, see if you can just offset it, there is a lag, daw will hear you after the headphones plugged into an interface.
>>
>>124395058

>>
>>124395077
>The main difference is the 'real' ones are sandcast and the cheaper ones are cast in molds
Sandcasting molds are made for each pour, while static molds are reused, degrading little by little, until the tolerances are too far off and they throw out the old mold and tool a new one, which is expensive. The 'real' Bigsbys are far better constructed and not as clunky as the import versions. The import versions are also less consistent, because some of them were made after the mold was fresh and some were made near the end of the life of the mold, when shit is not fitting together.
I was also told the import versions have plastic washers to compensate for the tolerance variations, but can't verify this.

Look at a yamaha fs800 or fg800. Then spend some money to get it setup at a reputable shop. Total will be under $350 for a well playing guitar (setup is why its easy to play). If you want a full solid acoustic, eastman makes a good $600 dollar model. However since your a beginner go spend the difference on lessons and if you are still playing guitar in 2 years save up for a red label or seagull.

I would consider fret leveling and nut filing as a standard part of a setup. wouldn’t go anywhere that didn’t include this as part of the price. $2000+ is the level (in my experience) where instruments no longer require fret leveling. some brands have good frets around $1500 mark but not many.

Why? Does it buzz? No? Then you don't need one.
We're talking about a guy coming from a $50 doodooplank. I'm sure he can cope with a scratchy 16th fret just fine. But really with an fs/fg800 you won't even have to worry about that.

Ever since I've gotten hooked on piano I've wanted to get back into bass and looking into the cost of everything beforehand repairing the one I have make the most sense. But I have to wait at least a week in the shops. I really just want to play bass but I'd like another opinion what someone would do in my situation
>>
>>124409433
that's odd. I'm not sure about the spacing of that headstock, but I have a load of cheap bases and the first thing I do to everyone is put in some new clover-head tuners. From no-name acoustic chinkplanks to Squiers, they've all fit.
Those basses you posted sound great for the money, but if the plan is to mod it at all, might as well just stick to what you have. Since it's a lower-end model, I'd go with Guyker brand machine heads, only $20 for a set on Amazon. Gotoh makes great ones too, but they're $50+, not really worth putting on a cheap bass imo.

This is what i bought last time. I couldnt get it to fit and i didnt want to do anything to the bass i wasnt comfortable with so i couldnt use a drill like >>124409767 suggested. I dont really have any plans to mod out the bass. i just wanna learn how to play songs and fuck around with the sound running it through my 404 mk2. Also with my sdp360 i have the drum machine so it could be fun to jam by myself.

Oh I remember that thread, imo allparts replacement is the better idea, even if you drill out the holes to 9/16", do you really trust those $11 tuners? Also it looks like old tuners have 4 screws holding them, the new kind would not cover those screw holes in the headstock.

Yeah, it’s a fucking great guitar. Guy at a folk session I go to casually takes it along every week to what is one of the rougher pubs in my town. Pre-war mahogany guitars aren’t as desirable to collectors as spruce and rosewood or spruce and mahogany, even less so small bodied guitars. A D-28 from 1936 is selling for $175,000, this is probably only worth four or five thousand though. I’d still buy it in a heartbeat if I could though.

It is often said that fender is the king of bass guitar. But if you pick up one of these you are going to sound exactly like everyone else.

I think people only say this because gibson is already the king of guitar so fender shills have to take the leftovers. But the gibson hh vol vol tone tone configuration is so versatile that everyone can sound unique (if you know how to use the pickup selector and knobs)

The p always sounds like a p. The jazz bass always sounds like a jazz bass or... a p (which makes the p completely redundant but thats another discussion)

Who is the real king of bass guitar?
>>
>>124419465
I'm mostly in the Fender camp with guitars but to me the most beautiful bass noise is a T-Bird. I've never owned one myself though..nor do I really play bass.
>>
>>124419604
To add, maybe it's all Gibsons. I don't know. Do they have a shorter scale than Fender? The t-bird has a rumble and none of the snappiness of a Fender..but that's where a bass belongs imo.

>Who is the real king of bass guitar?
Warwick

no other bass has a really unique sound like Warwick, and they also make P-Style basses that dab on Fendershits in terms of sound (such as the Adam Clayton Signature from U2). In fact, all basses try to sound like Fender except for Warwick, Rickenbacker and maybe Dingwall in some regard.

All other basses that have a "sound" do it via meme shit like the wah-wah preamp on WAL basses.
>>
>>124419465
>which makes the p completely redundant
no J-bass sounds ever like a P-bass. The single coil simply cannot create the same sound that the split coil does, it's physically impossible.
Best of both worlds is a PJ configuration since the neck pickup on Jazz basses is notoriously shit and nobody really uses it on its own like a P-bass since it sound so much worse, it's there to make the bridge pickup sound less nasal like Jaco did.
>>
>>124419784

Gibson doesn't sound like Fender just their guitars don't. Warwick is more Fender like just because of the scale.

>>
>>124419604

that's just a gibson thing. They can rumble but have zero clarity. All their basses sound as if you'd removed the mid and tone know and only left a bass knob that can push but not cut. Their SG-style basses, the grabber and the Thunderbird all sound the same and are really fucking boomy, which can be great if you really only want to rumble and play root notes and never play above the 5th fret, which boomer rock never does.

Try to play one of those in any other context and it will be the worst bass you've ever touched, though. They are vastly overpriced for the limited tone they deliver. Imo they're Gibsons worst creation since just about any other bass can achieve as much boomy-ness while also giving you more tonal options on top for less than a couple of grand.
>>
>>124419821
>muh scale
nigga, warwick, fender and just about any other manufacturer also has short scale shit. And Gibson also has 34" basses. It's all about the woods, electronics and overall configuration.
And a Gibson absolutely sounds like a Fender if you were to kill all the treble and only push the bass on any Fender. Gibson basses have just about the least unique sound out of any bass, it's literally cut everything but bass.
>>
>>124419821
the video is fucking bullshit, the J-Bass has the tone knob cut, the warwick also isn't flat and I guess all other basses are configurated in some way, too.
At least make an actual comparison with flat eq.

Also all basses in your video are 34" scale so your argument with the Gibson scale is invalid.
>>
>>124419844
>It's all about the woods, electronics and overall configuration.
Whatever they're doing, they're better than Ric, my second choice of rumbler. Maybe they have better experience with pickups, don't know.
But yeah, I am in the boomer rock camp. And I said earlier not really a bassist myself. Just my 2c as a guitar who wants them to stay in their lane. lol. What more do you need than a ballsy rumble?
>>
>>124419876
>What more do you need than a ballsy rumble?
If Motley Crue, Kiss, Iron Maiden and all the other mainstream stuff from that era is all you play, you really don't need anything else since you'll never play above the 5th fret.

But anything else where you actually might want to touch a fret in the higher register for once and Gibson basses will become your worst enemy.

Noob question here, but I don't understand how this exercise is in 4/4. If it is 4/4, shouldn't it be four beats (which it has) with one note played per beat? I can play it with the metronome at 60bpm and I count 1-2-3-4 with 1 lining up with each beat, but the 2-3-4 does not make sense to me since I thought 4/4 was 1-2-3-4 with 1-2-3-4 each being played on the beat.
>>
>>124424231
The time signature has nothing to do with the number of notes played in a measure or beat. Rather, it describes the number of beats per measure (which you got correct), and the duration of note which gets a single beat, in this case, the bottom numeral four, implying that a quarter note gets one beat. But the notes in the exercise are sixteenth notes, of which there are 4 per quarter note.

If you tap your foot for each beat, you would play each group of 4 notes with each tap: the first 2 on the down tap, the second 2 when you raise your foot. And 4 foot taps per measure, 50 per minute (50BPM).

I play daily and dust build up gets bad on my guitar under the strings. In general my guitars get dirty. I have dandruff and it gets in the neck pockets. And excess skin builds up around certain areas like the elbow rest. The ends of my frets turn green.

I clean my guitars but this comes back fast

Why must the rattle follow me around?
Any tips on chasing down sympathetic rattles in amps?

1 e and a, 2 e and a, 3 e and a, 4 e and a. Those are 16th notes. there are also sextuplets, octuplets and other shit you’ll very rarely encounter, but quarter notes (which is what you’re thinking of) are very commonly broken up into 8th (1 and 2 and) and 16ths. The e and a falls between the Beats 1,2,3,4 of which there are 60 of those per minute at 60 beats per minute
