>>128003808Okaeri.Good damn; so god.
I need help from anyone with experiencing micing a guitar amp.I recently bought an e906. I've got a 50W Boss Katana. I put the mic right up against the speaker. The input seems extremely quiet. I had to turn up my interface's gain to at least 7-8 before it even began to register. I had to crank it up to 9 to get it to consistently register around -20db.To my ears, the amp sounds loud. I play in an apartment, so I cant play at ridiculous volumes, but this recording is significantly louder than my practice volume.https://voca.ro/16Fuee1MO1CuIt sounds thin, hissy, and still very quiet. Sounds nothing like the amp to my ears. Do I have a bum mic? Is this just the nature of dynamic mics? They only sound good at crazy volumes? Does all the magic happen in post? Or am I screwing up with my mic placement?
>>128004115>>128004230oh god damnit i ruined my joke
>>128004252Did you? I can only see that the thumbnail says 'Okaeri, Papa' on the one you deleted.
>>128004272yeah because this one is more provocative and also it's just bettter
https://voca.ro/13xhA75VokmUIs this any good, would you call this downtempo or what? I think I struggle with dynamics and such. Is automating a volume knob an easy fix or what?
>>128004807>automating a volume knob an easy fix or what?it's not a bad start :^)
>>128004903Right so, seems a lot could be done with just playing the volume. What about the stereo field, how much automation is usually done on the panning and such? Listening back I think this track is very centered despite efforts to spread it
>>128005001As much as you like! I think your track sounds pretty good, I would estimate you know better the answers to these questions than most of the people here who would answer :)
Fuck it, /prod/. I'm tired of trying to hide behind irony and shitbecause I'm scared of being made fun of since I'm a 30 year old boomerand white. I wanna write my weird experimental raps with nonsensicallyrics. I'm gonna make the shit I want to and fuck it if I get madefun of. At least I'll be made fun of honestly. </blogpost>https://vocaroo.com/12G79fI7ycp7
>>128004807Yeah, it's pretty good, but too long without much meaningful change to keep it interesting. Nice sound selections, though. Sounds like jv-1080/wavestation/triton stuff from 90's-00's era vidya.>>128005607you the guy that posted the self-deprecating raps from a while back?
>>128005001If you route tracks through a mild reverb first and then into a stereo imager then reverb will make a stereo sound that the imager will then make even fatter. This is sometimes what I do when I have mono sounds like a drum sample that I want to stereo-fy
>>128004211What is your mic connected to?are you using a preamp?
>>128003808Very good. The combination of the composition and the sound design (particularly the digital-artifact-like sounds) creates a cool aesthetic. They clash and contrast a lot but at the same time they work nicely together.

>>128006735Every single song I make is a variation of the one song I've made in my life and that I keep making.I can't escape it, even when I plagiarize something else.
>>128004211Dynamics generally require loads of volume to sound good, this is why they're using on high-SPL sources. For what it's worth, an SM57 and a Behringer B906 both gave me decent levels only after I put my 40W Marshall Haze (Tube) at around 4-5, which is well over half it's output power.More info for the curious:https://marshallforum.com/threads/decibels-loudness-and-amplifier-wattage.69790/
>>128004211When you record your amp turn the BMT all the way up. Tone has almost everything to do with where the mic is placed and you're never gonna record it how it sounds live, you need to EQ it in post. Look up double tracking too.Volume problem probably has to do with how you're recording it
>>128006903>https://marshallforum.com/threads/decibels-loudness-and-amplifier-wattage.69790/nice, bookmarked this for the next time I think I need a DSL100 for the small office room where my guitar lives.

>>128005735Yeah, that was me. I still gotta work with building my flow, but at least it's fun to practice.
>>128008175Yeah, if you're gonna make the most defining feature of the genre experimental gibberish your flow needs to be more unique and on point. Arguably, you should also have really solid backing tracks with good production to make up for it, too. Probably helps to have some kind of loose theme to riff on even if it's mostly silly gibberish (thinking Dr.Octagon when I say that). I liked your self-deprecating thing, man, it was kind of funny and seemed to flow better than that last vocaroo, which comes across a little too predictable without much variation.

>>128008365>>128008365That's a fair point, especially about the theme. I love Dr. Octagon, so that's a good connection for me. I have a really hard time making up flows because they either end up repetitive as shit or end up just being me biting the flows from existing songs and frankensteining that shit together like I'm trying to chop samples. I don't know if you listen to a lot of rap, but do you have some artists I could listen to for flow inspiration? I love Rob Sonic and Aesop Rock too, but I have no delusions of getting to that level.

>>128009101Not much anymore. There were a few years where I would listen to it all the time, but didn't really branch out a lot. The main ones (besides dr.octagon) were Both sides of the brain by del tha funky, Deltron 3030, Black Sunday by Cyprus Hill, Hello Nasty by beastie boys and The Soul Purpose by 7L & Esoteric. Check em all out if you haven't already. The Soul Purpose is top tier white boy rap that doesn't align with the train of thought gibberish idea, but does have insane production, and both great lyrics and flow, so you may get something from it regardless.Verbal Assault is a great album opener.

>>128013575
>>128003379Not bad anon, idk why nobody replied maybe just first postitis. I think your intro and the sample processing stand out as high points. I think you could focus more on the beat, maybe do some sound design work to make it feel a little more natural. I think the bones are good, you have some solid patterns and changeups but I think the super clean stock kit+hard quantize makes it feel rigid. Filters on the drums are usually a good starting point. I'm not incredibly familiar with UK garage, listening to a little bit it seems like a common theme is more uptempo percussion that keeps the track moving while the bass/chords/vox actively play off it weaving just a few simple parts into a nice beat; it's dance music and your track honestly does not make me wanna dance yet. Just some thoughts. It's a fun idea and I think any non-sloppa non-shill on /prod/ deserves a reply :)

I could use some help finding the right keyboard. I want something that will function as a digital piano to practice and learn playing a piano with. So I want it to have 88 keys and have them be full hammer action weighted keys. I would like it to at least have a couple of built in sounds so I can play it in complete isolation. On the other hand, I want it to also function as a full fledged MIDI controller so I can use it with a DAW, my phone, and my various synths. I don't need it to have some of the random gimmicks that can up the price like drum pads or sequencers as I already have a dedicated drum machine. As far as the price range goes, I am willing to spend around $1000 though if there is something particularly perfect upwards of the $2000 range then I can consider it. I was looking at the Korg D1 and it seemed like a really good choice, but then I started researching Korg and found the B2 which seemed quite similar. I then realized Korg has what feels like a million different keyboards that all do incredibly similar things at relatively close price ranges and now I have absolutely no idea which one would actually be the right choice. And that's assuming I even go with Korg. The Roland Juno seemed like a nice option, but I feel like a lot of its price goes into the random things I mentioned I don't actually need like the drum pads and sequencer.

>>128041187>>128052696Korg D1 has an excellent keybed, as it uses the same keybed as some of their flagship digital pianos that are 5 times the price. There aren't many affordable digital pianos that use the high-end keybeds. The downside of the D1 is its sound engine is poor by modern standards, its lacking in basic features, and the overall build quality isn't great (it's not meant as a gigging instrument). If that doesn't matter for you, it might be a good buy. My general recommendation when buying any digital piano is to focus most of your money towards the one with the best keybed as the main priority, and then the sound engine / speakers, and finally the other features you may want. You can always get a much cheaper/smaller MIDI device if you need drum pads, (more) knobs, faders, and transport controls. Hell, even pitch/modwheel control isn't needed for learning piano. IMO, it makes more sense to get a digital piano with fewer controls+features, and then get a MIDI controller with all the controls you want for your DAW.

Most people, including advanced drummers, will never need Superior or get good sounds out of it because of the mixing and processing required. The sounds are very raw and a lot to sift through, EZD is more processed but not something you're going to put in a final track without tons of tweaking.I've never played an ekit through either though so the more articulations might help in SD there.

>>128052674honestly it is fatiguing in a sense, but the (lack of) writing torwards transitions is a much bigger issue imo.the core idea of the song is good but the arrangement definitely needs to be overhauled
I'm practicing orchestration atmWorked on the first movement of a symphony with themes from SNES games that I wrote seven years ago.I used only soundfonts back then that I created myself. Now I'm using Session Strings, Session Horns and SWAN instruments for woodwinds.MIDI orchestration always sounds a bit trashy, there seems not to be a way around, at least if you going for that real classical sound instead of Hans Zimmer. Does anyone of you have experience with orchestation with MIDI instruments? https://vocaroo.com/1co5OTIKvvtv

I thought about it some more and there is almost never going to be a situation where I would want to play the piano, but not be able to justify just easily accessing a soundbank from my computer or phone or something. Rather than a digital piano with MIDI, what are my best options for an 88 key MIDI controller? I'm willing to go higher so that it has all the functions I would want from a midi controller.
>>128058708If you’re getting an 88 key one you’ll get a piano sound with it. There’s usually a small delay when you use a piano vst so it’s best to record the midi first and then try out different tones with vsts on those notes. Have you looked at komplete? That could be you

>>128068762there doesn't seem to be an EQ problem or a loudness problem. it sounds like you are producing for fun and are at a beginner-intermediate level and not taking it too serious. dont sweat the loudness thing too much, the kind of music you are making probably wants to have dynamic range but if it sounds good, it is good.watch streams or tutorials from producers who know what they're talking about so you can improve your music. compare your music to successful music or music you like. you are already using a drum n bass kick snare pattern so if you upped the bpm to 174 you could maybe turn the track into some relaxing liquid chill thing. or i could even hear it turning into some kind of synthwave-esk type thing.i'm not sure what you mean by tropical synthpop though, is that a genre? post a song you like from it jej

Why can I only half-finish music?I just get to a certain point and I draw a blank, I have no idea how to add anything, it just stays a rough demo basically.
>>128078619>I have no idea how to add anythinghave you actually tried though or do you just stare at the screen
>>128078653YeahWhat usually happens is I come up with a nice synth pad, add some drums (which is usually just a shitty loop), add some chords, admire the pad and call it a day.I try to think what might sound good over the top of it, maybe listen to songs it reminds me of for ideas, but everything I try sounds shit including any presets I try when I get desperate
>>128078682so in the creative process, i don't know if there's a word for this but there are definitely books about it, you can distinguish between like, working by starting with focus on the process versus focusing on the idea-the former being writing based on a sound, being "inspired" by something scrolling your presets or having some type of process or system; obviously the latter would be more focused on ideation and having an end goal/idea already in mind.if you're throwing random shit down (not recommended) you have to *commit* to throwing random shit down. i.e you have to stop being precious with any of these ideas and make 100x more shit so you eventually get enough material to whittle down into something that's actually good instead of getting stuck.no 4 bar loops. 64 bars just straight up but don't copy paste. or if you do do 4 bar loops you have to make like 20 of them so you can lay them out, pick 3 and think about how you get from point a to b to c.or don't do any of that and just pick a reference to copy like everybody in your position should be doing to start with idk

Noise added just before export for some dynamics. Thanks.>>128078619>>128078824Agreed; volume matters. For every 1 good piece I write, there are 3 smaller sketch pieces that come before it. Before even that, maybe 5-10 random ideas played out.Just as important, it's a skill to know when something has potential and when it won't go anywhere. The earlier in the process you can figure this out the better. Sometimes within 5 seconds you know you either have a dud or something great. To get to the point where the volume can come, you have to know the process. Study song structure, even just by listening to music, and learn to write segments that flow together. You mention disliking what you write, but for now, drop that limitation and just finish something. Do it again, and again. If you don't know the process from start to finish, you won't have enough experience to mold the process to your taste. That's the point where your musical identity will inevitably shine through.

>>128103420my folder is also a mess desu, pic relatedone thing that helps is referencing the style of the tune in the project name + what your inspiration was, e.g. "experimental hip hop death grips bass" or "guitar house daft punk" or whatever. I feel like it's too late for my project folder but I've started organizing my exports by genre and project in a Google DriveThat way when I want to listen to my stuff and figure out what I want to keep working on, I can access it on the go, take notes in a document in that folder, then I have the name of the project in my mind and I can find it in the pile, so to speak
Made a song for my indie game soundtrack. R8, H8, Masturb8, etc.https://voca.ro/12ohhcUmQupH
>>128104383What type of game?Where in it are you going to use the song?
>>128104562It's a word puzzle roguelike deckbuilder kinda like Scrabble meets Balatro. This is one of 3 tracks that play on a loop in the background. They're all kinda jazzy like this one. Here's another: https://vocaroo.com/1itSGxaJSOqtI could share the demo with you but idk if self promo is allowed in these threads
>>128104383This is very bland, and the piano verges on disconcordant at points, and the progressions are poor. Feels like a first song.>>128104608This one is slightly better. You need some more expression if you're going to use wind instrument sounds. Mess around with your mod wheel or something, it's very flat.
>>128104608Skimmed through both. I'd make them softer and more in the background (regardless of volume, so through sound selection/design and mixing). Right now I think they feel too "in your face" for what they're supposed to do.Don't feel like listening to them in full, so I can't critique the other aspects, sorry.
>>128104737>Feels like a first song. That's not far off the mark. I've written music before but this is the first time I've scored a game and I'll admit I do not know much about producing.>You need some more expression if you're going to use wind instrument sounds. Mess around with your mod wheel or something, it's very flat. That's good advice, thanks.>>128104769Yeah I've been considering cutting out the solos entirely or at least toning them down a ton and just letting the beat play.
>>128103420just years / weeks put it into the current week. samplefolder is organized with genres and i just drop the folders into the genre folders. keep it simple.
https://vocaroo.com/1jIqkNsMOgR0im trying to make pop best i can do is 80s cop movie intros.
What are the best plugin bundles? And typically how much are they when they go on sale?
>>128105698just filter per downloads on audioz and there you will see the best plugins. kinda. some plugins cant be cracked, i think uad is pretty impossible? idk. uad plugins are the "best" i think. because you have asked for "best" i will not give you a list for all the good ones.
>>128103420i make a new project folder monthly for sketching:number_number files specify pretty much anything, but a theme is specified (eg "1_1 granular... 3_0 piano ghibli 5_0 distortion test) whatever.X_(number) denotes a song sketch (add genre tatgs)Y skipped because ewwZ_(number) is a transcription if a song makes it passed the sketch stage it will then get its own project folder, and those have whatever they need (relevant sound design sessions, organization, whatever.number_number_number versions as needed. bounce with genre tags, of course.
