first for capo
>>
Reposted sorry didn’t realize the last thread died. What’s the best place to find a good Les Paul? What years should I be looking for? Should I go 59 or 60s? I plan to play mostly 90s and 2000s rock in my cover band. I had a 59 epiphone with Gibson burstbucker 2 and 3 that was okay but I’ll be honest the neck pickup was way too warm for me and I could have used more gain in the bridge sometimes. The neck was a bit too thick but that wasn’t a huge deal, also I hear epi necks are thicker for some reason than actual 50s Les Paul’s. Or should I just go for like a classic alpine white studio? I was thinking about the new epi 59 inspired by with custombuckers cause it sounds amazing but I just don’t want that shit half gloss finish or epiphone logo anymore. I want to spend around 2000 dollars on the guitar.

>>
>>128017160
Your post is the first time I've seen anyone even mention it so probably not. Just play it loud and avoid the lowest octaves and you're fine.
>>
>>128017160
Boss just came out with a new polyphonic pitch shifter and whammy pedal and supposedly the algorithm is better and it has less latency. In my opinion they only start to sound a little wonky if you go more than 2 semi tones up or down in pitch, but they’re still usable. I used my digitech drop to play stuff in drop c from a drop d tuned guitar and it sounded good enough that nobody would notice live. It’s at the very least great if you have a set that only has a couple drop songs or you just want to play something at home in a drop tuning without having dedicated guitars for it. I use a polyphonic pitch shifter all the time to play stuff in e flat because I don’t want a dedicated guitar for that tuning and a lot of the grunge stuff, Van Halen, etc is in e flat. Don’t expect it to be perfect but it is really useful.

I used to have one of these, it was so cool. really wish I hadn't sold it

Hi GG/uys.
>Have pic related bought for me 8 years ago.
>Too crap at playing to touch it.
>Start learning some EVH songs and remember I have this in storage.
>Pull it out.
>Feels great.
>Sounds good.
>Looks amazing.

The control nobs seem to make no sense.

The one furthest from the pick ups does almost nothing.
The one closest to the pick ups does the Bridge pick ups (volume I think).
The one in the middle does the neck pick up (volume I think).

Can someone explain the controls to me, are they wired incorrectly?
>>
>>128017188
Did you even use the whammy function that much? My RP80 has a pedal with a whammy setting and it feels like it's only good for covering some RATM songs and to show non-guitar people the silly sounds you can make with it.
>>
>>128017213
First knob is volume, second is tone for the bridge, third is tone for the neck pickup. Selector switch is down for bridge, middle for bridge and neck combined, up for neck only. Hope that helps
>>
>>128017227
The whammy has a lot more features as in like up octave pitch shifting and memory and shit that is valuable even if you don’t actually use the pedal. Look into it.
>>
>>128017235
Wow they’ve wired the pots up in reverse as the 1st nob only effects the bridge pick up and second only effects the neck. I wonder if I can swap their positions without any cutting or soldering.
Many thanks for the help.

It's this. Guitars are nothing compared to autofags or gunfags, and those pedalboards are usually assembled over multple years

you have to earn you're gear. if you’re only epiphone level i do not want to see you with a gibson.
>>
>>128017517
Yeah that’s true. And I think a lot of the guys I like covering play 60s like dean deleo. I also like the silver tone knobs and Grovers better. I think the pickups are slightly hotter as well. I agree that I should just look for either a used or on sale 60s standard post 2020. I made the mistake of buying an epiphone last time and while it sounded great I always regretted it.
>>
I'm thinking of buying a clip on tuner so I don't have to plug all my other shit in just to tune
>>
>>128017818
Yeah I watched a couple of his inspired by videos yesterday while researching options and honestly that kid just pisses me off. There’s something smug about him that makes me cringe. Also I don’t like the fact that he fucks actual musicians out of good deals by bid sniping all the good shit and then marking it up and sitting on it. Used gear should be for musicians not for faggots to profit off of someone’s desperation. Let’s be honest most people don’t want to sell their guitars it’s usually their last option to pay bills. So they’ll mark it down for quick sale then someone like him comes along and sits on it for 30% more.

Buy a fucking capo. Go collect bottles if you have to...You can get inexpensive aluminum clip-on spring loaded ones off

https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-capo.html

for like $5 or less - the screenshot prices are CAD so yours will probably be cheaper. Wait the month it takes to ship it to you..no longer be a capo virgin anymore bitching about not having a capo. At these prices, buy 2.

Speaking of Aliexpress.com, a week ago I was told about these spring loaded guitar picks by one of our Anons. Very appreciative of that still by the way...thank you again...Now, I found a listing for the Black Mountain spring loaded guitar picks on there. These prices are CAD so may be cheaper in your currency.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009591040954.html

Cheaper than buying directly from the Black Mountain website. But they are still not an inexpensive pick. But probably worth it. I've not ordered mine yet but will soon.

I use them all the time on both electric and acoustic.

There are certain ranges of songs you can't tune your strings to without snapping them.
ex: Headstones - Swinging (Acoustic)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT9QXOzB1Ew&list=RDUT9QXOzB1Ew&start_radio=1

Put the capo on the 7th fret and then you can play your D, G, C chords along with the song.

There is a regular version of that song non acoustic for comparison.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY7skKWzFzA&list=RDDY7skKWzFzA&start_radio=1&pp=ygUfdGhpbmtpbmcgb2Ygc3dpbmdpbmcgaGVhZHN0b25lc6AHAQ%3D%3D

Jesus Christ I'm glad I never have thoughts like that...
>>
>>128019128
Same capo position, same chords, you can play their Without A Sound (acoustic)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gcg-9SyOQJQ&list=RDUT9QXOzB1Ew&index=2

A capo is a transcription device that adjusts to your voice range...that is all it does.

Play it at the slowest tempo you can without making mistakes.
Note the speed on your metronome.
Play it through multiple times until you can do it repeatedly without making mistakes.
Bump up the metronome a notch or two.
Play it again until you can do it at the higher speed without making mistakes.
Repeat until you get the tempo you wanted.
Do this for every exercise.

old vintage boss pedals are still gonna be expensive, even there, and aren't particularly rare in the west.

It was the week of Mardi Gras, and the streets were all noise and glitter brass bands howling through Bourbon, beads flying like artillery. The city pulsed, drunk on itself.
Mountain and Gary Greaser rolled in around sunset, windows down, Burger King wrappers flying out the back of Gary’s truck like ticker tape.
“Gary, bud, I can feel the music in the air!” Mountain bellowed, slapping the dashboard. “This town’s ALIVE!”
Gary flicked his cig out the window and grinned. “This town’s trouble, pal. Let’s just get some jambalaya and not get arrested this time.”
Mountain nodded with the solemnity of a man who had every intention of getting arrested.
They parked near Jackson Square. The air was thick fried dough, sweat, perfume, brass. Mountain pulled his uke out of the back seat and immediately began strumming a rendition of “Hot Cross Buns” in A minor.
People stared. A few cheered. One guy threw him a bead necklace. Mountain caught it mid-riff and said, “That’s what I call payment in tone currency, partner!”
Gary just sighed. “You’re killin’ me, big man.”
They wandered through the crowd, Mountain half-singing, half-shouting random lyrics about redemption and catfish. They ended up at a street corner near a dive bar with a flickering sign that just said “BEER.”
Inside, a blues band was playing. Mountain got that look the one Gary called The Itch. Before Gary could stop him, Mountain was on stage, uke in hand, interrupting the band mid-solo."Mind if I borrow the vibe, fellas?” Mountain asked.
They didn’t answer, but he started playing anyway wild, unpredictable, all wrong but somehow completely right. He belted a verse about how love was “like a Whopper left in the sun still good if you believe.”
The crowd went nuts. They didn’t know if it was parody, madness, or divine intervention.
Gary just sat at the bar, head in his hands, muttering, “This man’s gonna be the death of me.”
Then it happened.
The Incident.
>>
Mountain’s stomach growled like a thunder god. The crowd cheered louder, thinking it was part of the act. Gary’s eyes widened. “Oh no…” The inevitable IBS storm rolled in.
Right there on stage, surrounded by beads, booze, and brass. Someone yelled, “He’s baptizing the bayou!” The band didn’t stop playing. The saxophonist just pivoted into a funk groove.
Mountain, drenched in sweat, finished the song strumming through the chaos like it was all part of the plan.
When he hit the last chord, the crowd erupted.
They chanted his name. “MOUNTAIN! MOUNTAIN! MOUNTAIN!”
Gary dragged him off stage and into the night air.
“Buddy,” Gary said, exhaling, “you just destroyed a stage, a crowd, and possibly your pants.”
Mountain looked up at the full moon and said, softly: "Art ain't clean Gary, its real."
Then they drove off into the humid dark, the city lights glinting off the hood of Gary’s truck, the sound of distant trumpets fading behind them.

Starting to question whether or not I should buy a AAA top Les Paul because I could buy like 3 really good mid range used guitars for that price. If I buy the Les Paul it’ll be my only guitar I’ll have to gig with. But then again it’s a Les Paul.
>>
I could buy a used American tele, p90 revstar, charvel, and a PRS McCarty se for the price of this one Les Paul and have every tonal base covered. Or I could have a Les Paul.
>>
>gigging with a 4k les paul
lmao bro, you'd be either out of a guitar (stolen) or a neck by the 2nd show

Not 4k, 2500 after my discount. But I could buy this McCarty se for 700 and it’s actually really decent looking. And then I could buy a used American tele for 800, used charvel for 600 and have every base covered for gigging and still have 400 left over for another shitplank or a red dot for my handgun. But I’ve always wanted a Les Paul.

So is there any special magic to the wide range or wide range squier copies? I know the CuNiFe on the originals is supposed to make them cut and high-end responsive but I don't have any faith in a ceramic-based clone.
I still do want a telecaster, but iirc the magic was the bridge pickup on a plate screwed into the wood, then the neck pickup is taller/thinner which makes it warmer compared to a basic bitch single coil.

The entire point is to have a nice guitar to practice and gig with so I can find a good band fo join. It’s not a precious heirloom it’s the standard cost of a Gibson Les Paul at 2500 dollars. Fuck, even used they’re almost that much. Nobody is going to steal my shit, I don’t drink and I carry a firearm. I’m more worried about a crackhead breaking into my car at a gas station for my gear, but I just have to keep an eye on my shit when it’s in there. I mean my modeler and cab are going to be just as expensive. Guitars are meant to be played not sit at home and taken photos of (I.E. offset chuds)

There are a few that are sought after like the Baja tele but the problem is it wasn’t a good era for guitar building. Everything from 1990-2010 kind of sucked ass. Watch this man it’s one of the designers of the new helix showcasing the features. It’s fucking crazy and they still haven’t even released all the features yet. Like a lot of the really cool stuff may not come until a year down or so down the road. I’m so excited to get mine.

guitar effects are a cancer planted into guitar culture by keyboard fags to ruin us from the inside out
don't fall for it
plug straight into the amp

Hell yeah

I agree somewhat. They can be cool if they’re used tastefully like the edge or the guitarist from incubus or smashing pumpkins stuff like that. But most of the time they’re just used as a crutch to cover up sloppy guitar playing. One of my favorite songs that uses a tremolo effect pedal is heavy by collective soul, wouldn’t be the same without it.

only if you have a good amp. most amps have a shitty sounding breakup. too smooth

Just to clarify I went through the controls and checked eveything last night.
1st nob is bridge volume.
2nd nob is neck volume.
3rd nob is tone for both pickups.

This just seems wrong to me, I am going to open it up and if there's enough cable I am going to swap the 1st two pots so 1st is neck, 2nd is bridge and leave the tone on 3rd.

Just bought a schecter C-1 stealth for $300, it's great but I'm going to replace the pick ups.
What's a good pair of humbuckers for basically everything apart from metal (I already have another guitar that's great for metal tones).
>>
Help I just got my first HSS strat and the pickups sound like shit in middle/bridge position
>>
Now when I know scales, how do I make music out of it? How do I know in what order should I pick the strings within the scale?

This will do everything the axe fx does and more. Like I said later this year or early next year they're going to have a capturing / profiling function and then the word on the street is they're going to introduce a new variax pickup system that allows you to capture and model pickups. You'll be able to split stems for songs so you can practice along without the guitar track or add parts your band can't play live. It'll automatically switch effects and channels based on specific songs in your set. And the algorithm is the most realistic tube simulator ever made. Watch the video, it's worth it. They go in depth about how the new agoura modeling technology profiles specific aspects of the electrical circuits, voltage and characteristics of the actual amps. That's why they're able to achieve the "feel" and response of a tube amp with the technology. It's extremely impressive, the UI is extremely impressive, the possibilities are endless and it will only get better as time goes on and they release new updates. Also, the entire thing is modular for hardware upgrades in the future. It's amazing they can even offer this thing at a 2000 dollar retail price point.

I think the thing I'm most excited about is being able to load all my covers in with a click track and cues and have it switch all my effects for me without having to dance on the pedals. Let's say you're playing a cover of van halen unchained, you can have it engage and disengage the flanger exactly like the recording. Or just for songs where you need to go instantly from distortion to clean to a delay or modulation for a certain part it'll do that for you. It's like having your own digital guitar tech pressing pedals and switching channels. And obviously you can still do it the old school way if you want to do that, but the fact that you can just have a set built for your band and not have to even think about touching your pedalboard while you're playing to me seems cool as fuck.

No, that's how it should be. First volume should always be bridge. I didn't realize they had a separate neck volume, most guitars with strat style selector switches don't. But it is kinda cool cause you could do the tom morello tremolo stuff or back your volume off to use it as a clean channel instead of switching amp channels. Neck pickup should always be second because you use the bridge more often.

Use AI to find solos that use the scales you've learned and then pick ones that sound interesting to you and learn their licks. Look up common guitar licks tutorials on youtube. There's no specific order, although sometimes it's better to build and release tension by utilizing root notes in certain places or avoiding them altogether. Definitely don't just run scales up and down cause that sounds like shit and isn't musical, unless you're just doing a speed run at the end of a solo or something.

Guys I recommend to learn licks from:
Gilmour
Angus Young
Billy Gibbons
Knopfler
Jimmy Page
Marty Friedman
Eddie Van Halen
Dimebag
Jerry Cantrell
Dean Deleo
Randy Rhoads
Zakk Wylde
Kirk Hammett
Mark Tremonti
John Mayer

I mean unironically just pick guys that sound like what you want to play and learn how they do it.

There’s only 2 or 3 modes you need to know. The rest are shit

Most of those guys are Dorian, Mixolydian and Aeolian and just straight up Pentatonic.
>>
>>128028719
There’s only one scale: the chromatic scale.
>>
>>128028729
Because of my formatting or my choices? I was trying to think of guitarists that use interesting and sometimes unorthodox licks and have a variety of stuff you can learn and put in your bag of tricks.

this, you need to learn irrelevant meme shit

Which are the only scales you need to know. Friedman is the outlier, his shit can get wild sometimes and he has a very unique brain. The solo from foreclosure of a dream is one of the most unique and interesting solos ever recorded. He has a lot of far east influence in his playing.

They’re all the same scale dipshit

Alright. I can't decide. I'm buying one of these this afternoon. Which do you guys prefer?

I don’t mind effects I just loathe pedal boards. Connecting all the shit, powering it all, configuring midi, dancing around the entire set, worrying about signal chain and on top of that having to carry a bunch of heavy fragile shit that can get liquids dumped on it or smashed. Meh. I’d rather just get an extended warranty on a single multi effects modeler and replace it if something goes wrong.

Modeling and its consequences are sign of how fallen we’ve become. It’s fine if you’re a bedroom hobbyist but big acts using them is pretty fake and gay IMO.

I need a delay pedal. I’ve been waiting/holding out for the Behringer BM-14 Moog clone that’s coming out soon, but I’m tempted by the JHS flight delay and the BeeBeeDee. I kinda want analog though and the BM-14 is analog and half the price of the other two. I got their phaser, the 12 stage BM-13 based on the old, very rare Moog, and it is the best phaser I’ve ever tried. Any suggestions outside of the three I mentioned? It doesn’t have to be analog though that is a plus.

These are dirt cheap and work perfectly. I have the fender ones on all my guitars and I can sling them across my back with confidence.
