>>
>>128079805
having only watched the first 5 seconds really the only advice that matters in terms of building speed is
>eliminate tension in your picking arm
and
>pick from the elbow not the wrist
your elbow is a much stronger joint than your wrist, your wrist shouldnt move when playing with speed
all other advice is downriver of these two points

stick with troy grady for picking technique. troy is right that everyone's picking technique is different. i took his course and it was valuable to me, he has you do a series of tests to see what your theoretical max speed is for each of the different picking techniques: wrist, forearm, elbow. there's a few variations of each. i'm an elbow picker although my forearm picking is theoretically as fast (think evh eruption) it's not a natural feeling technique for me. especially when playing on acoustic your technique is going to change subtly the faster you play and you will incorporate micro movements from each of the picking techniques and how you anchor/stabilize the guitar will change. which also changes your posture with the guitar, as long as you are relaxed and not slouched you are g2g imo. no advice you can read in a book will tell you this it's just something you have to self discover with practice.

For those of you with multiple amps how do you store them? Are they just stacked against the wall somewhere? Do you have some kind of shelf? I’m thinking about picking up some ikea tier shelf to stick all my amps, cabs and heads on instead of just having amp mountain in the room with me.

bass sounds like shit and is practically inaudible. needs a second guitar, guitar is mixed too loud, needs more dynamics the volume is painfully consistent (if you are using compression, squish it less), maybe hold the last note and have the band drop out extended for another bar (1 min mark). i listened to this in my car with decent sound system btw
>>

amp mountain, like god intended

>>128080087
have less of the pick exposed. you should be able to play and hold on to the pick with only like 20% squeezing pressure. try a smaller picker or a larger pick to see if more or less leverage works better for you. not all picks are created equal material and shape DOES matter

Guitar playing is good and the drums sound decent. Bass fills are good too. Sounds like standard fare if that’s what you’re going for, but put some compression on the bass with a little drive. My ear is leaning in to hear the bass, but no bass arrives

complete beginner on the bass here, started about a week ago, it is kind of hard for me to find proper resources online (been dabbling with talking bass vids mainly) i've read that bassbuzz's beginner to badass course is very good for beginners, it seems that most of the stuff i find online goes from complete beginner to: "okay play this song at this fast tempo now and good luck" which isn't inherently bad by itself but i'd like a slower approach and i can't get an instructor, the course is pretty expensive comes in at about 200$ but everyone online swears that it's worth the money (also i cannot seem to find any torrent for it or something like it) anyone got any experience with it? watched a few vids from the main dude and he seems pretty entertaining and well paced.
>>
>>128081432
yes it's a great course i completed it 3 years ago. teaches you the building blocks as well as a few songs kind of. sometimes the easier lessons the bassline is missing about 30% of the notes just because it would be too difficult for a beginner. it gets you into creating your own stuff and jamming with other people which is the main things. the lessons are structured and flow well
>>
What's everyone using for captures on the Tonex? For me it's the Perfect Marshall, looking for a good SLO capture though
>>
>>128081419
That makes me a triple retard with my guitars
>>
>>128081432
Just get a in-person teacher for a few lessons and make sure to ask them to teach you the basics. For $200, you can get like 6 or so lessons and I guarantee you’ll learn the rudiments. This should include a chance to play their bass and learn what a playable instrument feels like.

I had a teacher for about a 1/2 year and by the end of it, he stopped the lessons because he told me he couldn’t teach me anymore. Once you’re ripping through the melodic minor modes and have the basics of finger picking down, it’s really just a question of building on that knowledge.

If you can’t do that, just do Youtube videos until you go, “okay, this is redundant.”

The biggest time-based thing you’ll deal with is building callouses. They are mandatory for bass, as they kind of reduce the cheese-grater friction. You can pickle your hands or finger tips with vinegar. Just never play when your hands are wet or just out of the shower. Also, you will get blisters from slapping, but don’t lance them too much. Apply crazy glue on the tips if you need to or where you lanced it. The tips will get bruised, too, but this goes away unless you’re woodshredding all day.

I appreciate your feedback but you're wrong about the panning. Mathematically the spacial separation is equal on both sides. Bass and drums are center, guitar is dual panned hard left and hard right, same volume on each side of the pan. Flip the headphones around and see if the same side sounds thin:
Everyone seems to have the same issue with the bass though and on both my expensive studio cans and my cheap gaming headset it sounds almost too loud. I failed to set the input gain on them right, so I was guessing, but still. so weird.
oh well. I appreciate everyones feedback, it was my first time recording something, post-processing it and mixing it with drums and all.

Honestly, there's supposed to be tension. Only once you've built the neural and biomechanical pathways with hundreds of hours of laborious alt picking practice does that tend to abate. Don't be afraid of "tension" in your picking hand, just make sure you're recruiting from the right places, aren't digging in too hard and obviously, don't play if it hurts. Tension is totally different from pain.

Yeah, but wound G too. Yuck. Same with Verlaine.
>>
>>128083559
I like it so far, it’s only been like three days though. It was used and half off what they go for new but it has some minor issues: the volume knob crackles super loud when turned all the way to zero (so I just don’t turn the volume knob to zero on the amp) and the on board reverb is very noisy (so I just use an external spring reverb or just ignore the noise when goofing off with the on board reverb). There’s a semi local amp tech with stellar reviews that could easily address those if I ever get around to wanting to get it looked at. It’s a great sounding amp with three different inputs for three levels of volume/headroom so there are a lot of options for loud and clean through breakup while not being super loud but still loud. It cost less than a new Deluxe Reverb Reissue and it’s a hand wired simplified circuit of that same amp from a reputable builder, I felt I had to get it and not miss out on it. The issues are extremely minor considering the price of it ($1450 plus a 45 minute drive each way)
>>128083569
Yeah I traded off the nipstang and kept the 70s dookiestang. The nipstang needed a new nut, new tuners (the plastic heads were splitting), and would have really benefited from fret job so bye bye. The dookiestang is still great for when I want that out of phase sound for funky/new wavy stuff but that’s really all I used both Mustangs for and I don’t need two for that. My Teles and LP Special get 90% of my electric time, dookiestang is neat and I like it a lot but it isn’t up there in my upper pantheon of guitars I play the most

I think Danos are super cool. I’d like to buy a Jerry Jones Dano style guitar but the price will have to be right (not the $2k they seem to go for now on Reverb). Do you play better when you're sad or when you're angry?
>>
Answer honestly, plz.
>>
>>128082219
>>
>>128084442
I don't play when I'm sad or angry. I don't think it's good to follow emotion. You should follow logic. I don't think it's healthy to listen to things for the goal of feeling a certain way. Observe and react to the music. Don't have a bias going in that will skew the musical experience. But that is simply my opinion.

The reason I’m all digital is primarily that I live in a townhouse and can’t play without headphones at home and I need to have the ability to practice my set lists as if I’m live with in ears. I’m not knocking analog gear, just shit that retards like Rhett shill and Ben cuckler shill. Also Friedman is a commie Jew pervert.
