Fuck me I just spent 2 hours cooking chicken Marsala with homemade mashed potatoes and locally farmed broccoli and I can’t eat it because the cooking wine I found in the regular grocery section is 14% alcohol and I’m a recovering alcoholic. just cook the sauce for like 40 minutes itll all be gone. you might be able to light it on fire once it gets hot enough to vaporize the alcohol. that should bring it down to 1%
>>
>>128314398
Why can’t you eat it? Does eating food cooked with 14% alcohol wine make you relapse or something? Doesn’t cooking it burn off on the alcohol? Genuine question, I am a square who’s never drank.

In March 1968, during a Grateful Dead concert run at the Carousel Ballroom in San Francisco, Jerry Garcia pushed bassist Phil Lesh down a flight of stairs backstage after becoming upset with Lesh's playing during a performance.
The incident occurred on the weekend of Lesh's 28th birthday, specifically after one of the shows on March 15–17, 1968.
Lesh later recounted in his memoir, Searching For The Sound, that he had been emotionally affected by the recent death of friend Neal Cassady and had momentarily stopped playing during a jam, entering a state of mental disorientation.
Garcia, reportedly enraged and high, grabbed Lesh by the collar, shouted, “You play, motherfucker!” and shoved him, causing Lesh to fall down the stairs.
Lesh described the moment as shocking, given Garcia’s typically gentle demeanor.

Garcia later confirmed the incident in a 1974 interview included in the Grateful Dead Movie, admitting he had been so upset with the band’s performance that he “flipped out” and physically manhandled Lesh.

There’s a cup of wine in the sauce and I simmered it for about 15 minutes which according to Google burned off at most 50% of the alcohol. 7% alcohol is still enough to put be back in withdrawals as I just got off booze again last month. Don’t want to risk it. It’s fine my mom ate it and said it was good. She’ll freeze it and have it for dinner one night when my sister comes next month. I’ll make some chicken tendies when I get home from door dashing and have some of the potatoes. All good in the hood mainly pissed they sell actual wine on the grocery shelf in the baking section.

Are the strings old? Old strings get to a certain point where they no longer hold tuning or intonation. Fender recommends you change your strings every 40 hours of practice in their manual.
>>
>>128315771
I’m excited that I’ll be motivated to change my strings more often now that I’ll have a guitar where it requires less than 5 minutes of effort to do so. I like playing new strings, hate changing them. Simple as

Check the nut, it might be catching the strings -- use graphite (pencil lead) it'll help lubricate your note (heh)
>>
>>128315823
Idk maybe you never stretched them properly and playing harder is stretching them. Try stretching them for like 5 minutes and see if it holds tune
>>
>>128315899
Yeah but probably not all strings a semitone if it’s the nut. Doesn’t make sense. Unless he went up in string gauge and didn’t file the nut.

Think of it like an acoustic guitar bridge -- but adjustable you can move the left or right sides back and forth.

There are actual aftermarket wraparound bridges that allow you to intonate but its silly that you have to spend extra to get something which should be standard on your 1k+ guitar.

ive been practising on a cheap 15 watt HB tube amp and now i want to start adding some gain and fuzz, plus some delay and other effect options.
im a homosexual and a snowflake, and therefore i like the look of boutique pedals so ive been thinking of getting the wampler tumnus deluxe and the cryptid fuzz (apparently has a lot of options for different fuzz tones). then a zoom MS-70CDR+ for effects like delay and chorus and more reverb options.
im wondering if that's gonna be enough for gainy metal tones, since the amp can already do some mid-level gain, or do i need a rat or something? could get a HB rat clone for like 20€ in case everything else fails.

youre a bass player stay groovy. complex bullshit is not the point of your instrument. should have been a lead guitarist.

>>
>>128318792
>just be groovy
>but don’t play anything more than 1/8th notes!
the fact that you think 16th notes are technical spam is sad
>>
>>128318814
i think you're probably being too busy. sadly being an advanced player in guitar or bass or any instrument doesnt mean good taste.
ive seen monster guitar players who ruin songs by overplaying. but at least lead guitar is an instrument you can be flashy on. bass playing isnt about flashiness.
>>
>>128318758

any tips and tricks to manage these? it's right at the border of what my skill level
>>
>>128318856
brother a tied 16th note is longer than a 16th note. it was to create space the guitarist just can’t play in time and was uncomfortable with it. not a big deal but when his solo is 1/8th notes I have to keep the song from sounding awful
>>128318861
those are triplets and sextuplets but not complete sextuplets. or someone really fucked up tabbing that out. I recommend dropping down to 30-40 bpm and practicing your quintuplets and sextuplets. it’s equally as hard to play it slow but you subdivide them more accurately
>>
>>128318905
you sound like a shitty band if your lead guitar player is strictly playing 1/8th notes for a guitar solo.
he should probably be doing the 16th notes and not you.
>>
>>128318699
>>128318709
It's a pretty standard upgrade to replace the trem with an avri, but not needed for it to stay in tune if you aren't reguarly using the trem.
>>
>>128318923
I didn’t ask him to play that lol
>>
>>128318861
also you might even try to think of that as cut time. where beats one and two would equal an entire bar. the sextuplets would kind of become 16th notes. kind of hard to wrap your head around initially but it really helps for triplets imo
>>
my electric guitar broke and before i fix it i want to use it as an excuse to buy a new one
the one i have is Cort X-5, i'm a noob and don't know shit about guitars, any recommendations for something around $500?
is it ok to buy used guitars? is it better to buy used from shops than individual people? what should i look for when buying used?
or is it better to jest buy a fresh one?
>>
>>128318861
okay I just looked this up and it’s in 12/8 (should have been written on the staff). for this I would think of every beat as a triplet and every part where it is doubled just double that piece of the triplet. that makes sense now that I look at it. just practice it that way until you have the speed to do it. the rakes are easy but playing the triad on those 3 beats will take some work. could maybe hammer on but that sounds different

tasteful playing over anything you could produce. theres a reason virtuosos rarely produce good songs. because each of their songs become about technical wank and showing off their prowess.
again you're just one of the idiots who thinks he needs to be star of the show when he's a fucking bass player. sing or play lead guitar if you want all the attention.
ill post an example of what im working on atm. i play many genres but i like blues. you'd probably put 1000 fucking notes in a 2 second gap after the singer sings

im not a flashy guitar player and i play to suit the music. it isnt a talent show or olympics. technical wank is the last thing i think about when soloing. i prioritize the song and suiting what the band is playing.

bass players who need bass solos are fucking cringe. bass solos sound like ass 90 percent of the time. just play melodic bassline hooks.
this is an example of perfect bassline

this is the bass' strongsuit. it isnt a lead instrument. and it doesnt need to be overly complicated. it sounds like shit if you do more thn this.

Not a mistake and there are transferrable skills between the two, although I would suggest fully developing a finger style technique on bass and not just adapting your flat pick guitar style to it for greater versatility.

Only people who dog on bass are nubs who don't know anything about music, comping or how harmonies work but I guess it's true that bass is not a glory hog instrument, people more often pay attention to vocalists and guitarists.

After my 150 dollar credit is spent on whatever accessory I choose to buy I swear I am never spending another cent of my money at a guitar center for the rest of my life. They are getting blocked and filtered. Between the nigger fucking my online order, the moody man children at my local store who huff and puff when you don’t buy their extended warranty or apply for a gc card, the incessant spam emails and the lack of proper weights and photos of individual guitars they have online I’m fucking done. They don’t even inspect guitars before they go out or make any attempt to insure they’re playable. Honestly hope they go bankrupt.

>>
>>128321068
Was looking at gibsons website yesterday and they actually have some pretty good deals. Also, they set the guitar up for you before they ship it. I’d rather support Gibson directly and get a guitar right off the manufacturing line than the big box guitar stores. But it really depends on price. Not sure if you can call them and haggle.

If you could get them to knock a couple hundred dollars off over the phone it’d be an even better deal. Pretty sure I’ll order my standard direct from Gibson when I decide to get one.
>>
>>128321059
If it makes you feel any better I’m in the same boat, closest gc is an hour and a half away which makes it even more infuriating when they give you a pissy attitude about a warranty that covers setups you’ll never use because it takes 3 hours out of your day to drop off and pick up the guitar. like no nigger I don’t care if setups are included I’m not driving 6 hours total to have one done.

Even better buying from the demo shop on reverb. Just add it to your cart and/or favorite it and wait for a day or two. They'll usually send you a very reasonable offer.

This one has a super nice top. Considering possibly using my account credit, seeing if they can go any lower, and putting a deposit / layaway on it until I have the rest. You can always stick with what works for you and see how well that works out. Without a competent teacher to see what you're actually doing wrong you've got no choice but to figure out which approach of the myriads available will get you the results you need. Sometimes the problem is the approach, sometimes it's really a matter of the student not quite ready to tackle specific technique or phrase due to having issues in seemingly unrelated areas or holes in other minutia - wide unnecessary movements on either or both hands, weird pick angle, tension.. the list is endless. But such is the struggle with being self taught, that's why some people get stuck in a plateau for years cause they don't know what they're doing wrong.

TLDR to git gud at this you've got to be an autist or get a teacher.

Saying one instrument is more complex than another is not arrogance bro. I concede that piano and horns are more complex than guitar in many ways. I’m just saying that out of the instruments in a 4 piece rock band guitar is the most challenging and difficult to master. And I base this off of my own lived experience playing all of them at either an advanced or professional level.

>>
>>128323718
I don’t think one is harder than the other but it takes a certain kind of person to play either. Some people are good at both. However, improvising and writing drums is far easier than guitar and it’s not integral to the melody of the song. The thing that makes guitar more complex than bass or drums is the fact that you have to keep the rhythm and drive the melody at the same time.
