If they steal the entry level guitars from Epi and Squier it's over for those brands.
If they are as good as he says and people get the itch to buy a "real" fender or gibson model that is 3-4 times the price and they don't notice a difference between their "entry level" guitar and a fender Fender and Gibson are fucked too.
A name is just that.
>>
It’s a Christmas miracle, I got the Mig 50 running, turns out it was just a bad tube. I considered only replacing the one but don’t want to deal with this again any time soon down the road so I just got a matched set of 4 and put two freshies in. Pretty damn elated right now, I was expecting it to be worse. Holy fuck that amp is loud, I tested it without hooking up the attenuator and channel 1 with volume at 2 and everything else at 12 o’clock had fixtures rattling and I could feel it in my gonads. Can’t wait to try out the new Kilt pedal through it.
>>
Any of you guys recommend any compression gloves that work okay while playing guitar? I apparently have raynaud's disease (cold feet and hands) and playing guitar has really been kind of difficult recently.
>>
>>128765809
Huh? You can go to your local symphony and see it performed in real time.
>>
>>128765826
People will never stop bible thumping their brand logos. That's guitars, amps, and anything else. Epi and Squier are forced to compete. The budget market is cutthroat. No-name Firebirds, or semi hollows, anything you want runs 200-250. The closer to $100 these get, the more over it is.
>>
>>128765789
i've been watching videos of brandon ellis from black dahlia murder and I couldn't play the shit he plays at even 25% speed

>>128765929
Holdsworth was great, but keep in mind he also used a synth guitar through the mid 80s to 90s. It's a helluva lot smoother than a normal guitar. That said, he was still amazing.
>>
>>128765925
Fender and Gibson can easily just put their own logos on and get rid of Epi and Squier, if push comes to shove.
>>
>>128766000
Holdsworth is probably the greatest electric guitar player of all time, there's Ygnwie, Terry Kath and EVH but Holdsworth is perhaps 'the' master.

When I'm playing a D-chord am I supposed to mute the E and A strings? I'm decent enough with strumming to where I can usually just hit the bottom 4 strings or at the very least the bottom 3

Thanks, I sometimes forget how unorthodox a lot of great guitar players have been.

>>128767065
being good and making good music are typically inversely proportional.

Yes that's what I mean, I don't mute strings I'm not actively playing. I.E. a B-barre chord I just don't hit the E string

there’s a lot of different factors. people with less technical ability typically spent more time on songwriting and also simpler songs tend to do better financially. if you even go farther and think about your favorite solos or basslines or whatever, they’re really not that complex. I mean how many shredding competitions could jimmy page be accepted into by today’s standards really? all those great classic country albums? 4 chords and capo
>>
>>128767161
Yeah I agree, all my favorite songs are pretty simple to play on guitar.
I really do need to start practicing songwriting but I keep putting it off on getting better at guitar first since I'm still in the beginner stage, I have been learning theory though.
>>
>>128767161
>>128767178
Also not that relevant but my favorite songs are pretty much all Bowie songs from the 70s, some really interesting stuff theory wise going on but they're pretty easy to play.
>>
>>128767208
He composed most of it on acoustic. Then just got everyone to contribute. Excluding Diamond Dogs. He's does some solos on that, but are cool in a shitty sketchy way.
>>
>>128767234
>He's does some solos on that, but are cool in a shitty sketchy way.
Diamond Dogs is a phenomenal album idc what anyone says. Sweet thing - Candidate - Reprise triptych is the most unique piece of music I've ever heard imo, I was blown away when I listened to it.
>>
>>128767234
a lot of great albums have been like that where it’s a skeleton and then the record labels house band just kind of jams together. that isn’t to say don’t try to get better technique wise but acknowledge it’s likely only going to fulfill self goals. I love playing and listening to bluegrass, but it’s commercially a very dead genre. also a lot of the big name session guys are still teaching lessons as a side gig. Music is commercially not in a good place right now unless you’re being pushed as a solo artist by the label

buying a bass for the first time, thinking about getting a precision bass because i had an uber driver who was a music teacher told me it was his favorite. he also told me fender was a good brand. additionally i read online that brand doesn't matter as much as setup, and nothing really matters if its my first one anyway.

my takeaway is that i should avoid squier, what should i look for?
>>
>>128770283
>>128770290
Simping for overpriced guitars baka. Buying a 2k+ gibson with a badly cut nut and tuning issues.
>>
>>128770423
Squiers are "bad" in the really low price ranges. Going for a classic vibe for example isn't bad at all. But yes, setup matters the most, you can find a 100 dollar chinkshit that's built well enough to play great with a good setup. With those cheapos you just gotta get lucky. Look up some video comparisons of classic vibes to fenders and see what people say. Generally just get well informed on what the best options are for your price range and if possible try them out in a store in person.
>>
>>128770423
Squier isn't bad for a beginner either. Used to be, but beginner guitars have come a long way.

>>128770466
got it. is there a site like logicalincrements for precision bass at different price ranges? i can certainly afford better than $100 but I don't want to get scammed
>>
>>128770423
p bass just works better when you're with other musicians. There aren't controls to distract you from learning to play. Fender normally wipes the floor of anything that isn't serious, but I've played a lot of shows on $50 basses. It's not a big deal.
>>
>>128770487
Learn pentatonic
>>
>>128770423
buy a $400 bass and pay $120 for a proper setup. pay for a plek if you get it from sweetwater. watch a video between a precision bass a music man stingray and a jazz bass and see which tone you like the most. save up for better tuners asap but bass tuners aren’t as bad as guitar tuners. any active bass with dual pickups is basically going to sound like a jazz bass I wouldn’t bother getting an active bass personally but pro musicians that play a ton of genres get them
>>
>>128770432
$3k+ is overpriced. there is a quality difference up to $2k. $1500 can get you top of line indo junk or you can hope for a used mia but we’re talking new here
>>
>>128770423
I've got a basic Glarry bass and fretless Glarry bass. Both had good action and no buzzing or fret sprout OOTB. neither required intonation.
I might have been lucky. below $500, mostly what you're paying for is QC
I can't speak for Squier.
>>
>>128770520
this nigga playin' Glawrence
>>
>>128770491
I dunno about the site honestly. Just go on whatever place you plan to buy it from and see what they've got in stock. Then just look up the models on youtube, watch reviews and comparisons and whatnot. You don't really get scammed with this sort of thing, you basically get what you pay for. The lower the price, the worse is quality control. As I said, you can get lucky with a cheapo and have an amazing guitar but you have to get really lucky. Classic vibe series on the other hand is often regarded as really well made, even beating some of their cheaper fender counterparts so that'd be your best bet if you're in the 400-500 price range.
>>
>>128770487
rhythmically solo
>>
>>128770470
Don't talk about yourself when you're replying to me.

>>128770509
Anything above 2k is overpriced. And mia means jack shit when the quality control is not up to snuff. Paying that much for a Gibson that won't stay in tune is absolutely asinine when there's asian shitplanks that stay in tune perfectly for half the price and less.
>>

>>128770496
im interested in precision bass because i want to do drones and analog production fuckery again like with all my shoegazer friends in college, but maybe that will just be a distraction at first. ill probably buy or assemble a pedal at some point too.

it isn't quite true that i have zero bass experience but i haven't touched one for a long time. i used to play stand-up in an orchestra. ive been getting back into music this year but all i have is a cheap keyboard and tiny midi controller that i dont understand.
