So R Lee Ermy the Frog, the Guitar General, walks into a gc (guitar center), and he goes straight into the acoustic room after he heard about some beef cake hunk de-tuning the guitars for no reason. He walks in and sees this massive lad. Im not saying an adonis. Because what is an adonis anyway. And he says to this hulking brute. "You know how dirty that is?", privately... And this lad goes, "Huh?". And Ermy thd Frog goes, "Callin me a hunk, Faggot? Look I dont care how dirty it is, I just don't want to see shit after fucking you in the ass!".

Who the hell do you think you are?!? I Walked Nelly Frutado onstage at Woodstock 99'. I introduced Christina Aguilera at Live Aid 2013. You SUCK! Want a gig? Go to a studio and rehearse, instead of ruining the beginning of the day for everyone down here. You little gimp. Ok? You imbecile, no good piece of shit... Crack a little smile? I graduated last in my class at full sail university online, and woman's studies at the university of Arizona. Fuck you! This is one of the most important guitar baste web portals in North America... Just because you got that little horn lip doesn't mean you can play. And I've earned my right to say that. Sucka.

>>129045665
it’s the same for the bass courses. I’ve read a ton of books and taken a lot of courses and the watch the video do the exercise style of teaching is among the worst. the videos where you play along and you alternate playing a few bars between yourself and the instructor and then explaining what’s going on in real time is the best method of teaching.
>>
>>129045679
What bass courses are there? I've learned by self-teaching from youtube players, live performance, or instructional vhses published on youtube. I can't imagine paying an online bass instructor. Bassbuzz and his old channel have are probably all you need to get to intermediate level for new bassists
>>
>>129045815
there’s like 8 “grooves you must know” courses, a few slap courses, some genre specific courses like walking reggae blues funk, then some artists courses. Nathan east Stu hamm some guy named buddha. typical run of the mill stuff. I will say that slap bass seems really simple but it’s very unintuitive to learn on your own especially double thumbing as the technique can be very gear dependent and you have to do it pretty much in a very prescriptive way to get the right tone.
>>
>>129045855
You don't need special gear to learn double thumbing or slap. You might have a thumb that's not adequately shaped to do it comfortably.
>>
wait there is a tritone in lydian?? I will now play your mode
>>
>>129045926
that wasn’t exactly the point I was trying to make. the sound of slapping comes from the string hitting the frets. if your action is too high or your strings have too much tension you will have to overplay to get that sound and it can lead to development of bad technique or injury. the upthumb will have the hardest time overcoming this. you can eventually learn to slap on anything but for the true novice not having an at least decent bass to learn on will add months to the process. slap is already a very front-loaded technique as you’ll also have to master hammer ons, ghost notes, and muting with the left hand to really do anything with it.
>>
People keep asking me about learning slap bass and I'm not a huge fan of slap bass. What's going on is it making a come back?
>>
>>129046207
yeah probably because Instagram and YouTube are just technique wanking wonderlands. a little slap is fine and there are good songs with groovy slap but it’s still the least used technique professionally speaking. can be a good way to cut through the mix because it adds a ton of high mids
>>
What is the best HSS guitar I can get for 1000 bux maximum
>>
>>129046266
Used Yamaha Pacifica Standard Plus, phenomenal guitars.
>>
>>129046207
Shitheads have been telling me to "slappah da bass" since I bought one decades ago.
I wouldn't say it's making a comeback, it's just the one thing that instantly impresses or amuses people that don't play bass.
That said I've never bothered dedicating time towards it. All the best slappers have bent thumbs, you ever notice that? No room for us straight men anymore.
>>
>>129046282
I've been looking at Pacifica 612, I assume the Standard is more expensive because made in Japan? Or does it have better specs?
>>
>>129046351
Actually I see the Standard is made in indonesia too
>>
>>129046351
The Standard line is just the newest series of Pacificas with different pickups and maybe different specs than the standard 600 series. The Standard is made in Indonesia and the Professional is the fancier version made in Japan. 600 series is great too but between the two I’d prefer the Standard
>>
I have some doubts that I will be able to learn theory, even the basics at 31 without any playing experience. What's the best intrument for just freestyling I guess? One that can sound nice or cool with minimal knowledge or effort.

For more relevant questions to this thread, how is this? I think Guitar Center owns them, is that right? How is Sweetwater?

>>129046418
piano is the most rational instrument choice
>>
>>129045968
Beginners shouldn't be slapping and you should know how to set up your bass' string height. Still not gear dependent
>>
>>129046246
It sounds really dumb to me. I think most record with slap bass would sound fine with a regular Play style.

>>129046291
>slappah da bass
The exact phrasing one of my friends used when asking me about my bass playing early on. Heard it a few times since and every time I hear it makes me not wanna learn slapping
>>
>>129046418
Theory is for chumps. Buy a Squier Sonic precision bass, spend the other $900 on cocaine, or whatever your vice may be, and you'll be freestyling in no time.

Sweetwater is sweet, free candy and good customer service. They will probably call you a bunch if you buy something, but if you ignore them a few times, they'll stop calling. That's probably the biggest complaint anyone has about Sweetwater.

>>
>>129047013
I worked as a sketchy freelance tech in college a decade ago to get beer money.
floyds are easy if they are not FR specials. I got many people to upgrade to GE 1996Ts, which completely mog OEM floyds and are comparable to their top of the line models.
>>
>>129047045
yeah I’ve worked on a few of those. I also like the strandberg style trems. I think a big problem with Floyd were those officially licensed ones that come on Jackson’s etc
>>
>>129047067
the only good licensed floyds are some Ibanez edges (not the cheapest ones) and all gotohs. anything else is as bad or worse than a FR special, which is a guaranteed headache just due to the cast zinc alloy saddles.
>>
>>129047091
gotoh makes the highest quality stuff on the market imo. I don’t always agree with their aesthetics
>>
>>129046291
>>129046441
Slapping is really versatile and improves your hand strength, accuracy, and muting. Even if you don't use it in songs, it makes you a better bassist and expands the songs you can play. I find it easier to play some lines slapping than pick or fingerstyle since it's a more efficient way to play some things.

You won't accidentally get good at slap, it takes years so if you start now, you might actually not mind it in the future. Or kick your future self for blocking yourself from learning a technique for no reason. You're never going to accidentally be able to play Forget Me Nots
https://youtu.be/HIpMyQbBJpI?t=65
https://youtu.be/RaPLIHjLxd4&t=14

Slapping with the thumb is the most useful part. You can get a lot more consistent tone that cuts through a mix than with fingerstyle (unless you only use one finger), and it's useful in songs that you can thumb strum instead of having to alternate between pick and fingerstyle in chorus/verse. It's only as cheesy as the number of unmuted popped D/G strings. Stick to mainly slaps and muted pops and it blends right in.
>>
>>129047102

>duh let's put a bunch of tape and glue right under the pickups to deaden the resonance of the tonewood where it matters most and use copper to create a big satellite dish to suck up the beautiful top frequencies and send them to the ground so our guitar signal loses its top end and sounds even more like shit duh
>>
>>129048558
Thanks man I’m excited to actually plug it in after work in an hour. It feels great out of the box, it’s a domestic Japanese market model which are generally higher quality than the models built for export. Ash body just like an original, three bolt neck with micro tilt adjustment just like an original, externally you wouldn’t be able to tell a difference between it and an original 1970s model other than the Japan markings on the neck plate and headstock. If it doesn’t already have 1 meg pots I’m gonna stick some in at some point. I’d have loved an AVII Tele Deluxe but this was less than half the cost, had the same pickups, and has vintage frets which I prefer over the AVII’s medium jumbo. I’m excited to get off work and make some noise with it

I like my guitars to play well and I pay for them to get the best setup they can.

Now I'm getting tempted by this because it's a Tele with an arm cut. It's got some other nice things about it which is cool too. Don't really care about the metal aesthetic or the active emgs but the arm contour on a Tele is just too tempting.

Don't really care about that desu though I would prefer a different color regardless. I'm still on the fence about it though. I've been eyeing some Strat shapes too but I find Strat kinda boring so I dunno.

Who else just wants to punch people when they start whinging about neck dive? So many people I've met who complain and cry about 12 more grams on the headstock or having "fight" the neck as if it were a barbell. Just stop being a weak beta cuck and grip your guitar properly.
I have played the most notorious instruments when it comes to neck dive and could just counter it in the worst case (epiphone thunderbird bass) with resting my right forearm on the body. Like how is neck dive even a thing unless you wear your guitar around your knees?

I saw Phil at a grocery store in Los Angeles the other day. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

The bassist from U2 has exactly that.
They make an import model from Asia that is like $900, their import stuff is really nice because they use the same hardware and electronics as they do on their most expensive custom shit and they get shipped to Germany for qc.

TheBassChannel loves that one in particular and it's their most used bass if you check out their videos where they demo stuff.

This doesn't happen, unless you bought some ancient gibson that's been neglected for half a century and stored in terrible condition. It's a myth luthiers on Reddit say so they can stay in business. Same goes with lots of other hobbies. People will try to scare you off DIY because they depend on the business.

Personally I find setting up my instruments therapeutic. And it feels more like it's MY instrument, not just some well-playing guitar. But I get some people just don't like working on it, they'd rather play. That's fair. But since you've got disposable money, let me hold a dollar, bruh.
