>>
>>129731085
A superstrat is just a strat with humbuckers. The stratocaster body shape is the most universal and widely used guitar in the world.
>>
>>129731049
I just played a couple of songs I like, does it count?
>>
I used to have a 'carvin' custom job that was hilarious. found it second hand in a Sam Ash for 200 dollars. Set neck BROWN superstrat with creme binding, HSH with those weird carvin pickups with 12 pole pieces, kahler, set neck that was baseball bat. It played amazingly. had the tilt back headstock and broke it. Being young and dumb, I just threw it away instead of having it repaired.
bonus: there was a set of RSB lace sensors in the case. guess they didn't look closely so I got those for free too.

>>
>>129731109
No, it requires a double locking trem as well. only a singular humbucker is required in the bridge position. A hardtail 'strat' with humbuckers is not a superstrat, it's a wigger guitar

It’s not about what country the instrument is made in. It’s about the craftsman who built it. I’ve had Mexican Fenders that are better than American Fenders. Jazz bass. I don’t play guitar. I’ve been playing for more than 25 years. I’ve been a tech for almost 20. Fuck reverb. Check local. Everywhere. You have to put your hands on this shit dude. There are many factors you need to look at. Two guitars or basses with consecutive serial numbers will be two different instruments. Where there is demand there are price hikes. Ever heard of squier vista tone basses? They were the like sonic line in n the early 90s. I bought 2 for $75 each because I wanted a cheap ass short scale. I sold both of them for $800 last year and the guy who bought them was ecstatic. They suck. A new squier bronco bass is better. I can’t stress this enough. Put your hands on the fucking thing.

the internet also allows manipulation. The consensus in the 90's was "Squiers suck, Mexican Fenders suck. You're paying for the name. Yamaha Pacificas are way better." That is still true, but reddit and youtube will have you believe that these brands are good values
>>
>>129732692
the mexi fenders have always been pitched as a good enough work horse. its the guitar you take to the bar and don't have to worry too much about it getting dinged or stolen. Is the american made nicer? Sure, can the audience tell? No.
>>
>>129732708
mexican fenders cost 300 and americans cost 1000. yamaha pacificas cost 130 dollars and were better built than the mexican fenders.
Current year mexican fenders (since the player series) cost 2/3 of the American line up and are a terrible value for the money.

I unfortunately split the neck on one of these while having a fight, but it was one of the greatest guitars I ever had and I think it was 99 dollars. My buddy went to luthier school and refinished it in hot pink, reduced it to a duncan distortion with coil split in the bridge, action was like 1.2mm or something, PISS low. It's hanging up in my sister's house as decoration now. Gonna get the pickup back one of these days.
>>
The real reason Yamahas play better is Fender's stubborn and sticks to a shitty 9.5 radius. Either go 12 and allow low action and big bends, or go 7.25 and make it super comfortable to bang around on and melt into your hand. 9.5 is the worst of both worlds.
Pacificas are 12 inch radius with narrow nut like a vintage strat. That's why they're so easy to play and feel so great compared to Fenders 'one size fits all' crap
>>
>>129733439
9.5 is fine for bends and if you prefer 12 you can easily neck swap. That said the neck heel is one place where fender is absolutely coasting on traditional looks.
>>
>>129733439
My mij Squier is 7.25
>>
I have an Ultra (10-14) and a 9.5 Strat. I adjust to both and don't care desu. The Ultra is only better because of the ebony.
>>
How do I tune to this without either breaking a string or get unplayable loose ones
>>
>>129733525
You could probably get away with just a 10 set. But that B on the fifth string might be too tight. You could use the A string from a 9 gauge set there and probably feel better when winding it up a note.
>>
>>129731377
Sire and Harley Benton have pretty much conquered "affordable" market. Best bang for your buck if you want to shop in that segment.
It's not really fair to compare them to Fender (apart from the China/Indo shit, which they do shit on).
They are very very solid, Sire basses in particular are really fucking sick.
>>
I had a 7.25 strat and it was a great guitar, but there's a compromise. It's essentially impossible to have low action and be able to bend more than 2 steps on the top E above the 12th fret. So coming to that guitar as a lead player accustomed to 12 inch radius and making huge bends was always a bummer. And I have some kind of compulsion on guitars, if there is a dead fret, I'm just drawn to it by unseen forces. If there's a bend that frets out, I'm there immediately pissing myself off.
>>
Why are there almost no widespread jm copies? I don't expect there to be as many as a tele but damn there's almost none.
>>
>>129733525
just tune it your guitar to those notes it'll be fine

It's smoother and less porous than rosewood...and harder and less prone to warping or wear apparently. If you look at old violins, their fretboards still look great. Almost as if they're not wood or something. Like a synthetic. Maybe all of those old craftsmen would've used rosewood too, but it was a New World discovery and got heavier use later - and then best variant (Brazil) got so overused it's illegal now.
That all said, my other Strat is rosewood.
>>
Ebony is hard and brittle and likely to chip and break if you ever need a refret. This is the only disadvantage ebony and maple have to rosewood. For strats and teles I like maple but it's just aesthetic preference.
I have guitars with all 3 kinds of fretboards and can't feel a difference, but I have calloused fingers and a light touch and will probably never need a refret.

>>
oh and my ebony board guitar is a Yamaha LL16 acoustic, and it's because ebony is cheaper than rosewood in the current year but most people don't know that and think it's some kind of win.
>>
guitar companies all stain the ebony to make it look black. it's all vitiligo michael jackson ebony that they use.
>>
>>129733829
I agree. But those SX guitars do have nice fat necks. the pickups are more like P90s than jazzmaster pickups. it was a 100 dollar guitar, he got that and a SX P bass from some guy for 100 each, they are as good as squier classic vibes in quality. thick glossy necks make them feel cheap though but the hardware and electronics are better than squier

Resident Sire hater here. Bought the S7 a while ago, which is next to their most premium offerings. It was horrible. Issues in descending order of "complicated to fix": very uneven frets, one not seated properly. Its nut was cut too high. The tone knob was very loose and scratchy. The plastic on the knobs and pickup selector switch had sharp edges/bumps.
I returned it.

>>129733833
Yamaha uses them because their traditionalists. All of their dreads are Martin copies, plus they're more known for Classical music instruments anyhow, where ebony is standard.
>>
>>129735695
I would disagree. none of them have narrow string spacing like a Martin not even the FG9 which is supposed to be their flagship folk dreadnought. considering the largest gathering of Martin guitars are in flatpicking circles, I’d consider that a failure. they sound great but the extra string space kills your crosspicking speed

>>129735779
lol could be. I mean yeah the dreadnought standard is d18/d28 so in a sense that’s correct but Yamaha instruments have always felt like tweeners to me. I think jap players are really into learning and using all the techniques so they just shot middle ground for finger picking and flat picking. basses are the same way classic shapes but modern appointments. I kind of hate it actually

The smallest turn goes a long way. And it takes a bit to fully settle (even settling depends on the guitar wood though). Techs have been doing it enough to gauge what's better than any noob could.
You're not going to bust anything if you make those small turns yourself. Just be patient and have good measuring tools. People who got their necks in a truly bad state did far more than that.

Tightening the rod will force your neck into an up bow. The truss rod will technically snap. The neck may be damaged in one of two ways. The sudden shock of the neck bending back in place will possibly break the neck joint or headstock depending on your guitar. The fretboard can also be broken in this process as well. You won’t have a playable guitar.

I dont know am i retarded but to me my fender amp stock delay sounds better than dd-7. I dont know if im doing something wrong.
On my amp the delay repeats the tone more accurately than dd-7. On dd-7 the repeated note sounds too twangy, like half of the tone is just some kind of a high pitched sound that sounds like a hit of a pick onto a string. And no matter which note i play that sound stays the same. So it sounds terrible. Am i doing something wrong or is my specific used pedal just not working properly?

your amp's delay probably is probably going for 'analog delay' sound where the repeats degrade, sounding warmer and losing top end. the BOSS DD7 is functioning as it's intended to, crystal clear repeats that don't lose top end just volume. In my experience digital delays are better for slapback and doubling, if you want spacey long repeats an analog delay works better.

why do people say you need humbuckers for metal (or heavy distortion in general)?
isn't the in-between position of two single coils functionally identical?
>>
>>129738302
sometimes it sort of is
but its usually really muddy when you do that

humbuckers sound a lot different because the magnet is not surrounded by the coil and the magnetism is transmuted though a mediator of ferrous polepieces which bumps up inductance

the sound of the strings is much more focused over the two coils as well instead of a really large, mismatched vibrational field (distance between the pickups) which can have some harmonics start cancelling each other out
>>
>>129738202
I have an 11 pound revstar. i like that it's heavy because it makes it feel substantial and the weight does something psychologically that changes my approach in playing it.
