There are 6 possible permutations for three notes on a single string, defined by the ascending and descending finger directions: 1-2-3, 1-3-2, 2-3-1, 2-1-3, 3-2-1, and 3-1-2. These patterns serve as "variables" to break out of rigid scale positions and improve fretboard fluency by varying picking techniques like legato, alternate picking, and economy picking.
I've been taking lessons for 8 months and I'm at a point where my teacher is slowing me how to compose short solos focusing on basic harmony and melody principles using the major and blues scales; and focusing on syncopation. It feels so nice because it produces very different (and interesting) phrases than the ones I just came up with when I just noodled licks and scales.

I posted my recently acquired Blackface Fender Bassman with it’s corresponding 2x15 a while ago, I’ve been on a list to get it fully refurbished by a Fender authorized repair center for a few months now, but today I called and had a small discussion and they want me to get two things done before they look at it.- Get it professionally fumigated (R.I.P. termites).- Get it professionally cleaned (due to the odor of rat piss). The first should be simple enough, but I have no clue how I’d be able to get this thing cleaned. That shit has to have soaked into the wood and tolex and everything, oh in case you’re wondering the odor is only coming out of the head, the cabinet doesn’t reek of it.Does anybody know what I can do? As it stands I’m $200 in the hole having bought this, and the most I’d like to spend in the end is around $1000.

When I was a kid and a teen getting into playing guitar and bass, I fell for the stupid memes of "whoa, tonewood" and "whoa amps" and "whoa feel and soul and muh tone". Once I learned to actually write, record and mix decently enough, I unretarded myself because electronics don't care about the wood you place them in, and if it sounds good, it sounds good. Just because it says "retarded old american company" on the headstock doesn't make it automatically better than "retarded new asian brand". It's depressing to see grown men still fall for the fucking wood and brand meme. Every guitar is just another product.

The body wood on a solid body is minmally resonant, it wont matter to the amplified sound as long as the pickups are still in the same spot. The wood of the NECK however, different story. Dont take my word for it, try swapping maple and rosewood on a fender.

Got a mooer yellow compressor for my cheap bedroom board. It's really nice, pretty subtle and just what I needed. I think it helps out a little with the distortions on the valeton, which I'm inevitably just gonna take off my board. It's a good unit for what I paid for, but I feel I have out grown it. It seems to me a zoom multi stomp would probably be the best thing to cover mods/delay and reverb in my fx loop. I don't know about distortion though. Phil McKnight Know Your Gear 23 hour waiting room.
truth is there are more good guitars than bad guitars its likely a skill issue and not a hardware issue.
Did you guys get your /gg/uitar checks this year?
>>130076378thanks for the feedback, anon. You mean the composition was too busy or the playing was too sloppy (or both)?
>>1300763532 p90s? but what about the bridge humbucker tone?
I want to put together a two pickup partscaster with a Strat pickup in the neck and a P90 in the bridge

I’ve thought about it for 2 months and I’m just gonna build a warmoth bass. oil finished neck and nitro body
Got my BOSS SD-1W today, how can I make my trebles not sound so muddy when I do triads?

>>130076904I lied. there’s a mij version of the exact specs I want that just popped up. I wasn’t preparing to drop $1600 right now but it’s perfect
>>130076377If you're happy with a hard tail don't get an rg. Ibanez RGs are really designed for metal players. This >>130068352 is a 24 fret double humbucker guitar with string thru body set up. Get something like that, but not that exact guitar, it looks like he's rubbing his balls on it.

noob here. just bought a stratocaster. I'm on day 4 of trying to learn. and i am following the absolutely understand guitar with scotty west. it's really good. i like his teaching style. right now im trying to learn the chromatic scale stuff. and it's pretty cool. it's just difficult to push the strings down. and accidentally hitting the string next to it and it sounds dead. but i'm sure ill get better.i think i want to learn to play classical and flamenco style at some point. but right now, i am enjoying learning the basics. no particular goals. maybe learn some music theory?
>>130076942>gretsch fan seething about gibson
>>130077794if that’s your goal I would get into a classical program straight away. you’ll learn everything else by doing that and not doing so just wastes time. if you don’t enjoy your practice you’ll be more like to quit. just my two cents

>got sennheiser 490 pro today for half off>got my rick>got my midi sync setup>can control tempo from ableton now>saw my femboy today and going to this weekend>jam tomorrow with drummer Fuck man I love music im so happy right now. So many things keep going right for me. If I can get the 4001 tomorrow for a good price I'm set. Going to play along to some songs on my rick until these sleeping pills kick in.
>>130078310I'm happy for you, but please don't call me Fuck Man
>>130078354I love it anon man. Fuck!
>>130076464composition was too busy but just at first it doesn't ease into anything when you start at 10 there is no where to go but down
>>130077794most new players press too hard its not about the pressure its about correct placement, the force needed to fret is less than you'd use to type on a keyboard.
For me practice is a waste of time, I've got god given natural talent I can play any piece without even hearing it.

OK, that's enough practice for today.https://voca.ro/155VWSjJ10MT
>>130078564oh yeah im pushing hard as fuck. i will try to lighten up and see if i can get some results>>130077871ok, i will look into some classes. do you have any idea on what a good teacher might be like?
>>130079365I'm gonna record a chorus for an industrial metal song I'm working on. So, just powerchords. I'm also going to use a lot of editing magic to make it as mechanically perfect as possible because it's industrial.
>>130075200>hamhandsIf you had ever spent more than five minutes in a studio, you would have instantly come to appreciate not having to retune after every handful of plucks and strums, but you're posting in /gg/.
>>130081331a good teacher should be able to understand where you are struggling and how to relay information in your learning style so you learn more effectively. they should also be able to teach you in a very linear and logical progression and get you learning songs right away instead of drilling techniques as nauseum. if you can’t find a good irl teacher, take a look at the classical guitar shed website. their woodshed program is pretty good
>>130081562oh shit! thanks anon. this is a great starting point. i just hope classes aren't too expensive, but i definitely want a few 1 on 1s
>>130067339I'll buy a bass guitar and play it on my lap with a bow exclusively and none of you can stop me.

It's actually better if I wait until next Wednesday to get the 4001 until next week but I want it today
How do I sing while I play and how do I sing if I don't know how
Lots of people have gay shitty guitars not me though
I think i will go to the local shop and at least see if they can fix that Rick they have. If i can get it for 1600 then I'll get my flats put on my rick today. If not I'll wait until next week to get the flats. I am really pumped about these ricks. The 4003S pickups work great with my setup. The reason I was keeping the music man was so I had something with rounds that work with my distortion. I can't get the downtune done, so the goal is flats on my 4003s and a 4001 today. See yall in a bit

Your composition? Nice man, keep it up. As for critique you can play it in time and bend to the right pitches better.
>>130082798>not Rickenblacker
Man I do NOT wanna go to work today I just wanna stay home and play guitar
>>130083448Thank for the feedback, anon.>Your composition?Yeah, I'm a beginner (~7- months with instructor) as a part of the weekly assignments his asks me to come up with a short composition (comping + solo) implementing new concepts learned during last session. In this case was using a mix of major and blues scale over a major chord progression.>As for critique you can playI would say is mostly on time (has many tie notes for syncopation), but you are right, I have some issues switching between triplet and straight feel>right pitches betteryup, still working on this, desu I'm kind of afraid of bending on lower frets (3-6) from the high E string, I feel it's gonna snap any time.Overall I have a feel I could let the notes ring more cause sometimes they sound choppy, any tips on this? when I'm playing to a meetronome I feel so rushed but when I hear it back is sounds so slow.
>>130083727Wait I like this one more
>>130083727I was the other guy. I’ll be going with this. good work
>>130084180ur welc fellow rick chad I am Rickencracker you are Rickenblacker
>>130084316Hell yeah nigga. Can't wait to get my 4001. I will definitely be able to afford it if I trade the p bass with my other stuff. I'm only using ricks from now on. I was up until 1am last night. Really excited to hear the flats on it. the vintage with rounds will downtuned in the next few weeks. Then replace the MM with the maple finish rick and I'll be done with getting new instruments for the year.
>>130084463Hell yeah man glad you found your sound. For me it’s p bass with flats and a bridge mute, into some hot tubes. I can’t remember what amp you had, and did you order some labella’s? Recommend the lights if you want something with similar tension to rounds.
>>130084463Me too man. I love mine. My 360 hasn’t been put down since I got it. I’ve been playing my new Strat cuz it’s new but I still go back and forth between it and my 360

>>1300793651. Minor triad arpeggio and how to finger it on the bass2. Meeting with a friend to jam on Fly me to the Moon (I'll play the harmonica)3. Learning songs for the choir, if I feel like it
>>130084176That's breddy gud progress for 7 months. Keep at it and with your instructor, you'll get better over time. It's a marathon and some years later when you listen to this recording you'd be surprised with your progress.>snap cityUnless you've got really worn strings or some mechanical rough burs on the bridge (most of the time snaps happen from there) it's really hard to break strings. Try it next time when you're about to change strings, bend the fuck out of them to check how many half steps you can go - it's a lot.Check this out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tELIgr96WcM&list=PLHGO8LRIE17RpWDqM2iaFSDU8bqgpQxEKAnd there's a video of him playing live with Hans Zimmer breaking a strings and recovering gracefully.>feel so rushed but when I hear it back is sounds so slow.No other cure but time in the saddle with a metronome and playing to records. You're barely a year in and the technical and mechanical aspects of playing still occupy a lot of your mental capacity. With and better technique and more experience you'll free up more RAM so you won't feel like you're rushing to fit the meter. Even Steve Vai with Frank Zappa early on shares that his sense of time wasn't that sharp and he was given a metronome by Frank and told to git gud.For the ring out or general "space".. there's this tip by Warren Haynes from his Rick Beato interview. Say 12 bar blues and you're in the I chord.. think and play a phrase for the first bars (the call), then don't play the latter bars (the response). Or think up a phrase, don't play it and play only the response and other variations on the idea.Good luck man, cheers
>>130084772Thank you very much for the thoughtful reply anon, I'll try that bending thing first.
