>>130465329idk man I suck at alternate picking but most of that is just fast pedal tone stuff which is easier than alternate picking stuff that frequently crosses strings. I think you're supposed to pick a bit closer to the bridge so the strings aren't flopping around so much, and experiment with how much palm muting you use to get the sound you want.Maybe this helps:https://youtu.be/uGbMEPhl7rg?t=433https://youtu.be/uGbMEPhl7rg?t=387somewhat unrelated: https://voca.ro/19XYfjmEsfkr

One of my guitars isn’t grounded at the bridge so it still hums when I’m not couching the strings and it’s really annoying. It’s a really easy fix with some soldering but I’m incredibly lazy so this weekend I’ll wire a ground to the bridge so the constant hum won’t annoy me

Sent the guitar back on monday, got the refund confirmed yesterday. Feels bad that I had to return it but I wasn't gonna keep it with the issues it had. I liked the playability of it quite bit even if the look of it hasn't won me over yet. Didn't like the bridge much either to be honest. >>130465937Benton Fusion IV. It had some factory defects, mostly cosmetic, a really flimsy input jack and the bridge was already eating through my strings right at the saddle. It was already looking like it was gonna be a headache down the road so I returned it while I could. I'll say though, the neck on it was amazing. HB can really do a very nice roasted neck I'll give them that.
>>130466005I'm really looking at the Epi Flying V 70s. It looks great and as it turns out, I really am a V guy. I have a cheapo King V that I absolutely love playing more than any of my other guitars. I've also been looking at the Framus d series wh1 because it comes with a 25.5 scale, og Floyd and still has that classic V look. Just not sure if I'll be able to wait that long to see it back in stock hah. And no, marketing has nothing to do with the fact many players had frs and it wouldn't stay in tune for example. You can say the og is overpriced if you feel that way but you can't act like there aren't objective reasons why it's better than the special.
>>130460249I got stands for days
>>130466845The hum doesn’t got away when I touch the strings or anything that touches the strings so it’s definitely not grounded. Touching the metal plates that house the controls kills hum so they’re definitely grounded but there isn’t any sort of ground wire making its way to anything touching the strings so I’ve got to fix it>>130466992I normally use two so I have a nice clean with the amp, one nearly always on with just a tiny bit of breakup, and one to stack to get proper overdrive, but I’m trying to get away from using a giant board and narrow it down to just a little board. I can probably ditch the Benson and squeeze two OD pedals in its place but the Benson is a great pedal and it’s fun to mess around with
>>130467123Dammit, I meant to reply to the post about bullying me into getting a stand. That being said, Jazzmaster dad guy, what happened to your dad’s JM? Building one would be cool, but I would go big and find a good starting guitar or at least an actual JM body and neck as opposed to buying a blank from a third party.
>>130467087>zinc alloysEven if that is true, it hasn't ever been an issue for me in the 15+ years since I bought my first Jackson. It's not like the thing is being stressed much.>wouldn't stay in tuneI strongly suspect skill issues might play a role there. It's usually beginners who buy the cheap guitars, they tend to overtighten screws or lack the experience to set it up correctly. I know because I was like that too. Kept breaking strings and getting string buzz, turns out that was because it was all crooked and tilted too far back. The one genuine issue I found with the stock one was that the arm would work loose so even if you cranked down on the nut, it would wobble in the socket. From what I hear, that's also an issue on OG FRs. It was easily rectified with a push-in style bar. The upgrade cost 30€ and took literally 5 minutes, you just undo one screw and screw the replacement in.>>130467148Ah, then yes, do ground the bridge. What style of bridge is it? I've noticed how guitar guys tend to collect guitars and gear, you seem to like it more than you like playing. Why is this?Don't you think you need a better hobby that suits you?
>>130467198It’s my Jaguar, it’ll be easy to run a wire into the vibrato cavity to ground it
Stop posting dogs, idiot
>>130466540Keep cycling back to the early songs. You don't just automatically get good. As you actually do get better, the things you learn can be useful for the material that gave you issues before. And you get a bunch of songs on tap.
>>130467220Godspeed, anonI noticed a similar thing in my Epi when I swapped the pickups, apparently the wire shield wasn't internally connected to the back plate on one so I ran a ground wire to the cavity and just pinched it between the back plate and the pickup cover I had added.
>>130467215Gear just tends to accumulate when you've been playing for close to 25 years
I don't understand this. I get ascending intervals, I've memorized the shapes pretty much. But the descending ones don't make sense.I'm at the minor 7th part. I've circled it in. But it doesn't make sense. It looks like the minor 7th ascending if I switched around the root notes. But another lesson showed me the inverse intervals and how they always add up to 9. So, the minor 7th should be a major 2nd, but I don't see how.
>>130467198I'm just explaining what the general consensus is. You'll hear the same opinion from veteran guitarists. Good for you that yours works well but yours is not everyone's. Either way, better metal is better metal, you can't deny that. And that gets the price higher. And also, whether the special is good or not is irrelevant. It's a cheap trem on cheap guitars that has no place being on expensive guitars. Would you accept cheap turners or pickups on your 1k guitar?
>>130467301that depends, you can be minimalist and play 3 only guitars for 30 years
>>130467329mate i find this is a bit too much, is your goal composing with guitar?
>>130467301This, plus if I don’t like something I don’t keep it. If I like it I’ll keep it, why sell something if I like it and don’t need the money? It’s different if you’re selling unused gear to fund other gear but if you’re not funding anything why sell what you like? If you need to sell gear to pay your bills then you shouldn’t have bought it in the first place.
>>130467215My man I play guitar for 20 years and own 6 of them atm. It's just that gear talk is a lot of fun-o-fun.
>>130467329the root would be a major 2nd from the minor 7th if the minor 7th was your new root. idk where you are studying this information but it sounds like a waste of time
>>130467215Guitar collecting is a byproduct of playing. Pick any hobby that involves gear and you'll see guys having more than one of it. Speaking of guitars, every guitar is different, makes you play differently or play different things. That's why we like having more than one.
>>130467335>better metal is better metalAnd a Bugatti is faster than a Miata, but you wouldn't need one for commuting, or to have fun on a race track. Would you pay extra for a trem made from titanium? Would you need it to be titanium? Would you notice a difference?Uninformed opinions are worthless, even if they come from people who should know better. ESPECIALLY when that's the case. The price gets higher because a marketing person figured out that you can make ridiculous claims ignoring the law of diminishing returns, and extract extra revenue from gullible retards. The same is true for basically any part of a guitar. Roasted toanwood bodies and necks, silver alloy tuners, silver wire pickups, gold plated cable contacts, big orange capacitors... the list goes on. A lot of it is snake oil, and most guitarists aren't interested enough in the underlying engineering principles to figure that out, instead amplifying each other's biases based on the marketing babble they're being fed by journalists who aren't doing their due diligence.>cheap trem on cheap guitars that has no place being on expensive guitarsSo you also won't accept regular copper wires, tone capacitors that cost cents, strings made from boring nickel and/or steel, or bodies made from wood?>>130467344Where's the fun in that?>>130467355This

>>130467945the practical application of this is for example you are playing in C minor. you play an Eb, the third of the key. to get to the tonic you move down a minor third. you know C is a minor third down from Eb because Eb is a minor third up from C
>>130467720I don't wear a watch so I'm safe. I'd be more worried collecting sneakers in america
>>130467966moving down a minor third from Eb is F#;)
>>130467993that is going up a step and a half. how is that going down a minor thirdi don't think you're cut out for this kid get a teacher
>>130468002that’s what I’m saying no one speaks like that. you are giving a second definition to minor third for step space instead of just using the interval. it’s retarded
learn the nashville number system and your modes you don’t need anything else
>>130468045yes they do. you're just autistic and obstinate and refuse to see it any other way than the first way you decided to see it, which was wrong. people talk about going down by a minor third or other intervals all the time. as if you would know, if you played with anyone they would have corrected you on this
>>130468081when would they say this, when they’re playing your solo? everyone uses the Nashville number system
one of the benefits of having a teacher is they will correct all these retarded assumptions you're making so you don't embarrass yourself when you play with other people
that’s great I play professionally and learn entire set lists in real time. if they know theory it’s the Nashville number system if they don’t they just say the note
>>130468002That's another retard. I am the original retard here >>130467329 and I understand it now.I was just confused how to approach it, but now I know to "reuse" the shape, but in inverse.I just don't understand the >>130467920 algebra analogies.
>im a pro don't tell me what to think>guys i'm stuck i don't know anything except the pentatonicchoke and die
>>130467585I'm saying that it is retarded to pay triple the price for a product that isn't better in a meaningful way. If people want to piss away money, fine, but they should do so knowing what they're doing.
>>130468133the algebra analogies were my attempt to dumb it down as much as possible to make the concept absurdly obvious. i can't do any more than that im sorry

>>130464109this is so brownI hope you meant for this to be funny because I laughed
>>130467805if you're mixing major and minor pentatonic your phrasing should be limitless.an exercise i do sometimes is i limit myself to 4 notes in one position and do not play anything other than those 4 notes.this forces you to be creative with your phrasing. limit it to 3 notes if you want to try something more challenging.when you've done this for at least 20 minutes and go back to playing all over the neck you feel much more creative with phrasing
>>130468176Sure
deeper and deeper I go into the intonation rabbit holeno I will NOT pay a luthier to do it for me
>>130468460I will adjust my intonation and visually see the saddle move but when I check the tuner it's still off by the same amount.
>>130468460I need to learn ideal nut height and action over the fretboard. Frets are filed and polished. Body is refinished. I ordered the wrong tuning machines. Need to drill for the bridge, but I'm being fussy.
>>130467805Stop listening to/getting your ideas from other guitarists. Listen to piano players, horn players, the drummer's gf, etc.
>>130468460just think of the string length in minor thirds it’s the most efficient form of measurement

>>130467215This is such an obvious cope/projection of your own lack of motivation and play time. I own over a dozen guitars and basses and play them all. Some are in different tunings, some are modded versus stock. I have multiple pedal boards for different uses, different amps depending on where I’m playing. I’m not going to indulge this poorfag coping anon.
>>130469605if you play funk/r&b/soul/disco i will agree. if you do not specialize in those genres you are basically a background instrument nobody cares about.

>>130469192Retard here:What's the difference between a modern studio, a modern, a studio session, and a studio session lite? Why the fuck does gibson have so many fucking variations of less paul that are practically the same archetype (studio, classic, standard) with wildly varying specs and price points???!?
>>130469852that’s true unless it’s a 3 piece
>>130469863sweetwater lets you compare all of these models directly so you can see for yourself

Having less than two amps is bedroom warrior behavior.Starting out, you need different amps for different gigs because they dont all have the same PAs. Also it just sucks to lug big gear around for no reason.Hate to break it to you losers with no friends, bands, stage presence or scene.>They will tell you that you only need one amp, yet I never see an extension cab in the photos. Just more gay Mexican offset guitars that sound identical (especially live). Also retards can't comprehend the idea of spending money on another appropriatly sized amp rather than 7 more guitars.
>>130469928Imagine knowing what the EQ controls do
you'll find 90% of musicians are garbage desu. tasteless. cant harmonize with other musicians, play mostly to hear themselves.ive been going to jams and finding people who actually listen to the other musicians as they play is rare af.
>>130469863So many variables anon, have a look for yourselfhttps://www.sweetwater.com/insync/gibson-les-paul-buying-guide/
I've been asked to support a band at a decent venue but I'm concerned that the people running it are legit sociopaths. I'm pretty sure they've been talking shit about me on social media and they only want me to go to make a fool of me
Finished my first guitar build today bros. It's a bit of a gimmick guitar for a synth rock project where all the band members are "in character". Had a lot of fun making it>Strat body I made from a template and cut/sanded down from a piece of a tree>Sprayed/lacquered in electric blue>Fender Strat neck from Facebook marketplace that I refretted >Stained the fretboard a deep brown>Mirrored steel scratch plate I made myself >Monumental amount of shielding around 1 pickup on the neck>DDarrio stable bridge>For shits and gigs I gave it an on/off switch Plays really well although I can't get the intonation right up past the 17th fret but it's mostly chopping rhythm guitar I'm playing. Building the thing was so much fun and I'm thinking of making a les Paul style guitar next, I learned so much from the build
>>130469192nice finish
>>130468145That's your opinion but what is "meaningful" is entirely subjective. Some people want the better metals/manufacturing/quality control. And saying there's absolutely no meaningful difference between the og and the special is asinine, otherwise there would be no major love for one side and major hate for the other. And regardless of whatever else, there is a standard when making instruments that when you make more expensive guitars, you put more expensive parts on it. And selling a 900+ guitar with the same tremolo you put on your 300 guitars is fucking disgusting and lazy. Maybe back in the day sure but with the Floyd 1000 existing, anything less than that shouldn't be put on expensive guitars and that was my whole point. >>130469500I never tried those and I've heard they're not as good as floyds. They look really cool though.
>>130469928Deluxe Reverb just werks for all gigs
>>130469863Some are heavier. Some of the pickups are a little different. Cosmetic stuff like binding, tops, inlays, and vintage specs are used to dig into your wallet.
>>130469928*Ahem*>Stands up, takes puff of cigar Now...I understands that you have some opinions...>Fixes suitBut, allow me to offer...a superior opinion >Takes another puff of cigar and sits to corner of his mouthNow you may not like this...but!>Gestures to rest of roomI reckons y'all need to hear this>Smiles to rest of room before taking cigar out of his mouth and blowing a huge puff of smoke in your faceHelix Stomp amp and cabinet sims sound better than your shitty amp and you don't break your back lifting them to your bar gigs*Sits down to rapturous applause*
>>130470056Play it or don't. You already know if other people are receptive of your music.

a blues driver into a solid state amp is just as good as a tube amp at the edge of break upt. someone who just a/b tested both
