Almost crashed twice
They keep opening construction sites wherever I find a nice route without any options to go around them forcing me onto heavy traffic roads. This is the third time this year already and I'm slowly going insane
/n/ can I get your opinion on my daily route home. I've ridden this every day for over 5 years. Sometimes people who also live at the top have told me they can't believe I ride up this every day. It's 4.5 miles total from the subway station. It takes me around 27-28 minutes to ride it, maybe closer to 25 if it's a good day, google maps says 40 minutes. I can't really get above the low 6s mph on the steep parts. Going down in the morning I hit between 35-40 mph coasting down this same steep part. I dunno, just wondering how you think my performance here is.
>>2001893How do you not go insane doing 17 miles in prospect park?
>>2001903If you like pushing yourself and riding it why not? Seems based to me.
>>2001903I need distance and gradient too to judge if based , not some random google maps screenshot
>>2001904Idk, it’s just five laps. Wasn’t super crowded cuz it had just rained
>90 degrees already outsidetime to bust out the dorky bandana and do the daily 25 miles
>>2001874I've been unlucky lately.Took a short ride yesterday, crashed from braking on asphalt that was wet on a section. Bruised my elbow up good and skinned my leg.Punctured a tube on the past 2 MTB rides before that, pretty sure due to a fucked up rim or something.
>rode new route today>route was a paved cycling trail>trail had underpasses under the road> a few of them had thick patches of sand>rode through them without issue but it scared the fuck out of me>took them slow coming backI don't care what anyone says, sand and gravel patches scare the fuck out of me. I don't care if "you maintain 20mph and hit them straight on you won't have issues" it's that one time you slide and crash and it's all fucking over. Maybe I'm over reacting?
>>2002058Nah you good bro.I had my worst crash on strewn sand over a concrete turn. Whacked my hip into a bridge at 5-15mph. Don't even remember the impact, just my mom pouring hydrogen peroxide over a big gash on my knee.I would recommend you slow down, get in an easy gear, and spin through the sand. Carrying momentum is safe, until your front wheel gets a little off track.
Today's ride was a good one
One great thing about riding in summer is seeing all the sweaty women in cycling and fitness gear. A good number of them even have their armpits exposed for anyone to see.
Did around 25-30 miles today(no bike comp). Was cooked 3/4 the way through with some crampage so I was camping in the 39-24 to 39-28 gear range.Tons of people out today.
>deliverymaxxing>need to pick up order at a place that sells hotdogs>owner is a faggot who looks like tobias funke>takes almost half an hour to make a pair of fucking hotdogs>need to deliver it in the middle of a fucking favela
>>2002386>road is two ways, but there's barely enough room for a single car>there are cars parked everywhere>LOUD exhausts everywhereAll this for less than 2 bucks
>>2002222CheckedUsed little ring(38t) once on an 18% hill, otherwise did most of this in 52x11-34, wide range cassettes are the future. I’ve been riding casually for a while but does /n/ think I could get competitive if I’ve been doing rides like this 3-4 times a week? I need to get my workouts a little more dialed so I can actually be fast over these distances but I think this is a good baseline for fondo racing this fall.
>>2001874It took a few brain cells to figure out how to get this to the post office without needing to driveRear rack and bungee cords, think this will doI’ll just have to make more trips MondayTotal today was 12 miles of errands around town, mostly raiding the local hardware store for tools and electrical stuff, nothing crazyTomorrow I embark with that box and many more, items I sold on eBay to afford to build a high end single speed But I also kinda just want to put stupidly high end parts on the melon bike
>>2002441Like imagine that meme machine but with>phil woods bottom bracket>thomson seatpost >industry nine hubs>mavic ceramic rims>paul components linear pull brakes
I put platform pedals on my mountain bike because I have something coming up where I'll need to do a bunch of walking off bike. Its hard to fight the muscle memory of having used SPDs exclusively for about 12 years. My feet keep sliding off the pedals and heel hitting the crank arms. I'll try swapping out the plastic pedals for a pair of pedals with pins so at least my feet won't slip.
>>2002247>>2002231Do you wear that full face helmet in the heat bacon?
>>2002441>high end single speedLike a track bike? Unless actually riding track I think that’s kind of lame, brakeless with an insane gear ratio for street riding can’t be fun. If you’re talking about a single speed CX bike, I’m all for it, that’ll make you a better rider in every way possible, and you can actually race it and have a cool life and not be an autist doing autistic things for his own autistic amusement.
>>2002441protip, cross the two bungees together instead of just going over each other for ultra stable packing.>>2002459>brakeless with an insane gear ratio for street riding can’t be funwhile this is true, track bike with brakes and a tall non-leglet ratio (greater than 3:1) is insanely fun on the street but the handling is so spicy it can highside on command. I feel my track bike has more dangerous handling than some motorcycles I've owned, so yeah, that's what makes it fun on the street
>>2002459Less track bike, more commuter.Idea was 44/16, freewheel, linear pull brakesBut 700x32 tires for mixed terrainA commuter, but I wanted to use really high end components. And I’m leaning away from the idea now thinking about having too many bikes, I already have 2 that barely if ever get ridden, and 3 I do ride regularly.>>2002469The two red ones go across eachother, the green one is actually just one long one, it’s solid, I test fit it today and ripped it around to see if it would go anywhere and it did not
45 miles today.Bonked again, but this time at 23 miles in and it felt like shit again...... At least I was flying pretty good before that, bringing some food next time. I am such a retard.Man the bike trail we have is smooth.>>2002429You can be competitve. DESU I used to race junior xc mtb and I was cat 3/4 while carrying 20lbs of fat extra and not that good.Really depends on how competitive your location is, your goals, and type of race, but if you are doing 50miles 3-4 times a week, you are already training 9-12 hours, which is a lot for your average joe shmo.If you do plan on racing do some research on "peaking" and of course training. Doing that right and not coming in rekt for a race is huge.
>>2002441If I was building a super melon bike it would be>campagnolo record hubs laced to nice 32 or 36 spoke rims >carbon seatpost>conti 2.2 tires, or rene herse. Something fast>super cool brake levers, don't know enough. Also, just looking on ebay for weird esoteric fancy 90's stuff.Oh, but a high end single speed is awesome. I ride one a ton>>2002470I run a 46/18 freewheel, ancient caliper brakes, 700x28s, campagnolo front hub with mavic g40 rim, suzue rear hub with mavic reflex rim all 36 spokeIt's fun, but if you have plenty of bikes I wouldn't bother. Ride more and then decide later. My favorite part is how quiet it is, how it makes you ride differently(standing lots+building momentum for hills), and how efficient it is.
Thinking of adding some fenders and a rear rack and do some bike packing next weekend.
>>2002635sweet tourer
>>2002635those hoods look too high and the saddle looks too low and what the heck is that cable routing, but i do like the miyata frame regardless
>>2002660Saddle looks fine for that frame geometry. It’s that wacky stem that’s making it look weird. I couldn’t do with that much weight on my ass.
>>2002635isn't that supposed to be a triple crankset? Squeeze your front brake hard, does the cable stop flex? I bet it does. You're losing braking there. You should file the keys off your headset washers (useless form of neanderthal adjustment that is prone to strip steerer tubes when the washer and nut sieze together and then the keyed washer gets threaded off the fork)You can then delete some of your headset and fit a chunkier brake cable stop in there. also clamp bottle cages on your fork and put storage containers in them and clamp 2-3 inside the frame triangle for water That is a gorgeous bike btw. I would also look for a different seatpost, flutes inside your frame is not good
>>2002660he's got his hoods setup on the edge of being able to brake in the drops, which is a fair limit of how you can do it, then, point the bars at the rear brake, also a fair limit. It's cruisey but i would find it awkward having my wrist at that angle for braking in the drops, even with one finger braking. Because he has bar end shifters and a high bar, the drop position should be comfier imo. I like to put a flat edge against the lowest flat bit of the bars and butt the brake levers against that. Think he may prefer a different shaped bar or a shorter stem, maybe not, iunno, if it works it works. It's also annoying to experiment with.

>>2002677Today I saw a reverse trike with the hand crank. Was pretty cool and we were having a good time.
>>2002668I believe so, the guy I bought it off of changed it as he lived down the beach and liked that more. Been putting off changing it for a bit, you have any recommendations for a triple crankset?I like the tech for the storage up on the front fork. Going to look for a new seat post as well.>>2002670Yes when I am riding in the drops I can still hit both brakes with my pointer finger pretty easily. I'm usually riding with my hands on the hoods or the flat part of the bar.

>>2002448Pinned pedals made for a much more pleasant ride without my feet slipping. During a slow hard left near the beginning of the ride I had a pedal strike, the pedals are pretty wide. Still had myself lifting my feet on the up stroke a few times.
Rode to work today and HEEMed my record.
>>2003332On a friday? wowI tend to feel tired on friday
25 mile ride today. Stood up all the climbs and got my heart rate going well since it was a shorter ride.Still need to get better at calf utilization while riding.
Whenever I ride and pass by other riders that wear sporty clothes, fancy road bikes with their power meter and bike computers they tend to look at me like "why is this guy riding"... Is it really that shunned as an adult if you ride the bike you should either only do commute or go full pro gear and bike or go home
>>2003805I don't have this issue, most of the people I ride past are old, and I say "on your left" and they may say something. like thank you, okay, have a nice ride, etc.I only wear bike shorts sometimes, then a normal T-shirt.
>>2003805That's just how people lookt. Fred on fancy bike
Went for a ride before midnight and got back just after 1 am. Nice and quiet, a bit cool as the temp dropped to 5C and I just had my winter base layer on with no jacket.
>>2003853It's wonderful, just run good lights and watch out for things in the road.Did another 45 miles, recovering quite good now compared to the first time a week ago.

Just went to a great little bike park, it's on the site of an old golf course, has several tracks each one very different, with easy non technical to black run highly technical runs.I was the only one there on a rigid mtb, most were full suspension, a couple front suspension only, was so much fun. It's great that we have this in our town, where the roads are narrow and full of traffic. No pics but lots of fun moments, there's one short fast track that is basically 3 jumps and a high speed berm that propelled you into a climb back to the start, doing that on a rigid bike was pretty scary, but I never came off.Picrel my trusty steed
>>2004536That's in nice shape. My dad has a fat chance setup for MUP/bike trails.
20-25 mile ride today. Saw a small car(not park ranger) on the trail pull off which was weird. Had to tighten my seatpost clamp due to my fat ass hitting bumps.

>moved to new area>tons of beautiful cycling/running trails that aren't even busy>lost all will to go out cycling
One of those evenings where the sky was clear except for a huge thunder cloud in the distance. Its crazy how far away you can see them. I checked the radar when I got home and it was 70 km away.
>see guy up ahead>pass him>he's riding one of those ebike/road bike hybrids by giant>laugh to myself that it's not even that fast>flies by me a little later on>can't catch up to himGuess he wasn't using the "ebike" part when I initially passed. I was a little upset that I actually got passed by someone using some cheater ebike bullshit.
>>2004909maybe you're just slow
I finally figured out my drive train creak. It was the saddle creaking as my weight shifted from side to side while pedaling. It only became obvious since it has gotten louder.
>>2004915I've had a loud saddle creek that's been unaddressed for ages because I'm pretty sure I either need a new seatpost clamp or a new saddle and I'm fine with both as they are other than the creaking
>>2004909depending on country the ebike assist cuts off at like 26kmph cyclists passed me all the time but id catch up immediately on hills its not cheating, its not a race, and he probably didn't think about you at all
>>2004918CLEAN AND GREASE clean every part of the seatpost clamp, and put a thin film of grease on all the mating parts including where it clamps the saddle rails and the thread of the bolt. This is routine maintenance. i think we need a fucking sticky saying this
>>2001903>>2001933I can't get gradient but here's the distance across the entire routeI can post a few screenshots of the biggest hills on the route next
>>2005000heres' the two main hill segments
>>2001874thats a bike
>>2004991Uh huh. Are you that youtuber who greases his rims so the brakes won't squeal?
>>2005037you're just not good at bike wrenching
>>2005038Never said I was, but it's you isn't it.
>>2005039no lol and i don't know why you're hostile to good mechanical practice.
>>2005044It took me countless hours of headache and ruined rides to even get the rails to stop slipping, and I had to torque them down to a point where I was afraid it was going to break something, I'm not greasing them you troll
>>2005047Grease on bicycles helps things clamp tighter (unless it has ptfe in it). Lubricating the threads of a bolt allows it to torque more, easier and safer. Grease on mating surfaces acts like a washer (which will deform). Mating surfaces do not perfectly align and grease basically fills the gaps/imperfections and allows you to clamp over the entire surface. It's funny that you struggled so much over something basic and yet are hostile to the idea that you might have been doing it wrong, or have anything to learn.
I'll just say again though, a -very thin- film of grease, onto a clean surface. Not loads of it. Practically every mating surface and bolt thread on a bicycle should be greased.
for example you should also be greasing where your handlebar clamps. Threadless stems should have the steerer greased. Quill stems should have a shitload of grease around the wedge and on the shaft.

I was faffing around on the beach cruiser seeing how much lean I can catch and lost front grip on a coaster brake only bike and 27.5x2.4 slicks. Then I recovered it by donkey stomping the ground. i got a propah bike again after 5 years. Canyon Grizl gravel bike.2 50km rides later my ass needs a small break. First ride was pretty miserable desu, HR kept rocketing up, position felt really bad. 2nd ride was great, HR behaved like it shoudl, position felt good, etc. So rest day tomorrow with some roonning, then again longer ride on sunday. Feels good mangs. Helps that my new living area has much more variety in riding, instead of just like, 3 road loops.>>2005037reminds me of my old Avid brakes that would squeal like a pig if they as much as even saw moisture. >>2005051>>2005050>>2005049Ok I went and did it. Lithium grease on the clamps and rails. Triflow injected into the joints where the rails are connected to the saddle body. Something worked, dunno if it was the triflow or the grease, but my bike sounds expensive again. Who would have thought the hacker known as 4chan would know things.
>>2005923Weak frame and tyres not meant for speed
>>2005923Lots of bikes are like that especially ones with really steep angles. Can be a lot of different things. Potentially your frame or fork are bent. If it's a steel bike you may want to check the alignment as it can be repaired. Headset bearing and wheel hubs can cause this. Cabling can also cause it. many other things. The first thing to do is overhaul your headset, and experiment with having it slightly tighter than normal. Then service your hubs.
>>2006176Good lad. You're learning. Care with the triflow though. The PTFE in that will make things slippy, also spraying gratuitous shit in places will build up dirt/gunk.
>>2005923Also straight up, check your quick release skewers are correctly tightened and your wheels are seated properly. The cam should be at 90° when it loses play and begins to tighten fully.
>>2004536Hell the fuck yeah bro>>2004436bird
>>2003766>Stood up all the climbsThis slows you down a lot. When you see pro riders stand on a climb it's because they're forcing a large gear in preparation for a massive acceleration. It doesn't make any sense to stand if you're already going as fast up the hill as you can manage.
>>2006778pros can spin up climbs at hundreds of watts. A beginner isn't going to be faster grinding in the saddle at low rpm t. not him
Bit of a crazy night. Went out late to sneak to the top of an under construction concrete silo. Had rained and bike got packed up with wet clay on gravel road so I had to abandon it and walk further. Dodged a security guard and made it to the external scaffolding stairs. Made it up the 18 flights without being noticed. To get on top of the silo I would have had to climb a ladder above the top of the scaffolding which I noped on. So I didn't get a chance to climb the platform on top of the silo which was another 6 flights. I made my way back down and slipped off into the dark without being noticed. Once I got back to my bike I had to pick up the back end and roll it on the front wheel back to the paved road. Then spend 5-10 minutes pulling off clay so I could ride it.
>>2006789thats a cool looking horsie>>2006885decent adventure my dude. What kinda consequences would you have gotten if the guard caught you?
20 mile ride, felt sick halfway through and found out at home I had to go to the bathroom bad, so it was a stomach ache.Tried out the newly built up bike. After riding it around after the seat was 10mm low, pedals were floaty so I tightened the clipless retention, and lowered the bars since it's running bullhorns. Will do the same loop on saturday.
>>2006896>What kinda consequences would you have gotten if the guard caught you?Nothing good I suppose. Insomnia gives you dumb ideas. Distant lightning in all directions which was fun to watch. Chipped off the rest of the dried clay this morning, it did a great job cleaning the gears and chain.

>>2007344Yeah I try to ride at 5:30 and be home around 9-10. recovery ride today, around 15 miles with not much elevation.
Melon Marin went out for proper mountain bikingaround 21 miles total? I don’t use a smartphone anymore so I don’t have strava to really keep check, I just guesstimate with google earths ruler tool at home later It’s funny how much the littlest obstacles feel so extreme on this thing Hit like a 2 foot gap, effectively a little ramped step up at speed and it felt like hitting some fuckhuge thing on A-line or something

I've been riding for the past month without a gps, cycling computer or Strava. I have my phone but I don't pull it out of my pocket so I don't even know how long I've been riding. Feels bretty good.
I was checking out my used truing stand that I'm planning to sell. The specs on Park's website said it should handle hubs up to 150 mm, but the stand only opened to 140. Turns out the person who owned it before me didn't install the rebuild kit properly. Also they used a teflon grease on the threads that became stiff as plastic over time causing it to bind up. Works much more smoothly now and opens to 155 mm.

Another 40 miler. Had to slow down people since someone crashed on a blind corner descent and was on the ground for 5-10 minutes.Got passed by a train too.Saw a 3 legged dogStayed in the high 70's-low 80's so I was flying and doing great. Yesterday it was mid to high 80's by this time(9:00).
Some 70km of forest roads and xc skiing paths. I'm fucking spent brehs.Saw a nice looking horse too. Maybe some day I will get to ride a horse.
Did an 80km gravel ride yesterday, mostly singletrails through fileds and forests like in pic rel. Hand palms were hurting quite a bit after the ride because of the bumps/breaking. Are gloves a must or do you get used to it?
>>20084732/2
>>2008473>Are gloves a must or do you get used to it?Really depends on what the root cause of the discomfort is - if you're keeping a death grip on your bars/brakes, or you have very poor core strength, then discomfort will go away as your technique and fitness improve. If it's a posture/ergonomic issue then you'll continue to have discomfort until that's addressed. Gloves can help if your hands are sliding on the bars, and do protect your skin from abrasion, but won't do anything to help solve the former issues.
>>2008473>>2008480Get a pair of $13 nomex flight gloves and fold the cuffs up when you don't need them. The contact patch is all leather but the top isn't so you don't sweat to death.
>>2008473>Hand palms were hurting quite a bit after the ride because of the bumps/breaking. Are gloves a must or do you get used to it?gloves are mostly there so that you don't fuck up your hands in a crash, they won't prevent hand pain from overuse or road chatter.

Felt really stronk today with the coolest morning air we have had in a month or so. However I messed up and I need to slow down more when I encounter 10+runners on the bike trail, because of course they were 3+ wide, walkers coming from the other direction, and a cyclist as well. Was neat to pass a dude, fill up my bottle, and pass him again. Also encountered the young short dude standing up hills on his mtb going pretty fast. Huge calves. About 43 miles or so. Finally tightened my DT friction shifter enough it doesn't shift when i stand.

Finally a nice day for my first longer ride on this build.Went to a neighbouring city for lunch and then back. Took some sketchy detours with varying road quality (pic). Endeded up doing a little over 100km which is a lot for me. Didn’t even get ass pain
>>2008950wow, 60 miles on a flat bar. my hands would've been screaming.also, manlet lol
>>2008950great pic
>>2008954Hands got a little tingly towards the end but nothing that couldn’t be remedied with some shaking.Gotta get some better pants tho. Turns out blue jeans just ain’t it.Any recommendations for a short king?
>>2008957I rode a good 1000 km tour with similar vintage XC racing setup and took a good few months before my pinkies could feel something. Hopefully never again. I suggest risers with some backsweep and inner barends if you do long distance. Disc brake mods looking good though that fork is triple butted right so be careful brother. Cut the blue jeans to shorts.and you are good.
>>2008956ThanksIt’s been rainy and windy as hell for a while, which made for some interesting obstacles>>2008964Same thing happened to me from playing wow for 10+ hours a day lol. Thanks for the heads up tho. Will def look at different bar options if I ever do any real touring.I know the disc brake thing is questionable but I just wanted to do something cool
>>2008982i'd just put aerobars on for touring if I were yout. other guy
Daytime highs supposed to be over 30C until at least early August. Really should go for morning rides but I just can't get my ass out of bed.

found some nice gravel stretches today. lots of up and down, will definitely feel it tomorrow
First time in zone 4/5 in weeks. I was starting to think I wasn't into cycling anymore. Turns not nah it just sucked because of the heat + humidity.
New to all this, jsyk.Looking for genuine advice on bikes, maintenance etc.Should I fix up the bike I have (last legs) pretty much a new, everything.Or buy a new one? Finance as money is tight.

Found a bag of sheep slippers while out riding today. Moved them from the ditch to beside a light pole maybe the person who lost them will drive by.
>>2010849Cute
>>2009685Fargo fits a Gates drive. You're probably not going to find both belt drive and igh in an off the shelf bike, but I haven't been looking.
real nigga hours riding is the best kind of riding
>>2011167Do you keep that drivetrain really clean or is just a high contrast shooting scenario with the flash at nighttime? I don't mind night riding if its scenario that's safe enough - the opportunity for solitude is really nice, the traffic calms down (less noise). Last year's century attempt finished at half past 10.
>>2011173I waxed that shit. Haven't cleaned it in months, best meme I ever fell for Night is comfy, way less traffic. If I'm gonna die to some fucker speeding around tall hedge back roads it'l happen regardless of if it's dark or not. All roads around here are pretty sketchy. Can't wait for the tourists to fuck off, but then it'll be raining 24/7
>>2001874Somehow got four pinch flats in one go and had to walk 8 miles home because I neglected to bring a spare tube. Lmao.
>>2011216based walkouteveryone should do at least one
>>2011220Yeah, it was really a walk of shame because I got passed by tons of cyclists. One guy gave me a tube but it turned out to have a schrader valve so I just gave it back to him when he came down. I have no idea how I got so many holes in the tube at once, but I ran out of patches and there was still a hole left.
>>2011175Nice. Maybe I'll go for it one of these days, Ive been using the Mariposa sunflower drip wax which was really well rated on ZFC but unlike immersive paraffin it does get messy looking with very little use.Not sure if its because I've been lubing and cleaning rather reliably with my current equipment or its the wax but the chain longevity is best I've experienced so far (even though 11 speed has less wear tolerance than my previous lower end components).
>>2011367i picked up the cheapest parafin wax from amazon, obv dont fall for the meme marketing and get some kinda whole expensive kit. just boil the bag of wax in a pot of water till it melts and shove the chain in the bag (after cleaning/stripping it)wax tards make it sound like a lifestyle rather than something that takes 15min to do
this little pal is ridiculously fun to ride. did 50km on it this afternoon, went to see the sea (there was none).

>>2011608That appears to be the 'Wattenmeer'. When its low tide the water completely receeds.
>>2011625yeah man it worked for me, just dipped the fucker once like 3 months ago and have not had to touch it. chain is perfectly clean to the touch and still running great
almost got sideswiped twice by retarded drivers. also seems like this bike tops out at 32km/h or so, on a slight downhill while pedalling hard at top gear
>>2011672>this bike tops out at 32km/h
>>2011675OK, I guess it could go much faster if I rode down a very steep hill with a death wish, but you know what I mean.
>>2011676welcome to the hobby. the way to get respect from drivers is to behave with conspicuous respect towards them, give way to them even when you might have the legal right of way (they won't have any clue, none of them are capable of even driving in a straight line with any competence)
Short 20mile today. Shake down ride and I get to retrue the rear wheel again+adjust the loose bb.Regreased the hub bearings and they were fairly dry after all the old grease came out.Felt like shit in the beginning, but 10 miles in it was a solid ride.
>>2011672yup that's the best part about trail riding. no carbrains around to endanger your life. hopefully you can find a safer route to ride to get there. it's definitely worthwhile to get a blinking tail light if you are going to be riding in traffic regularly

Time for new glasses. I'll probably have to finally get progressive lenses, since I can't read my phone without holding it an arms length away. I wonder if they'll be ok for riding. >>2013074here in Atlanta, nobody has cared when I've done it. mostly I lock up outside but with my new fast bike I don't carry a lock, I've gone in for water with the bike and once I even forgot to bring a shirt, nobody said anything. these were not right in town, more on the outskirts. maybe I just got lucky but I know at least one of the clerks was the owner because we were talking about his prices and he was complaining about the distributor. it might just depend on the individual behind the counter and how they're feeling that day but so far so good

Bros, not sure which of the 10 million threads on /n/ to ask in so fuck it i'm asking hereany recs on bike computers? i get corporate discounts with garmin through my job so i can probably get $150 a computer from them. but i don't know where to startdo i need a power meter/hr monitor? i really just want to know speed, distance, cadence and route, mostly. i just don't know where to even start
>>2013090/bqg/ is the thread to ask, you can also usually fool the jannies into letting you post a stand-alone thread by calling it (your question) + general, so in this case, "bike computers general"
>>2013090imo cadence data is a (nearly) completely useless holdover from the beforetimes, when nobody knew anything and the commonly available training advice involved sketchy truisms about cadence.rather than a bike computer I would suggest a garmin watch - whatever you can budget or wrangle out of your job benefits. this + strava on your phone gets you all of the useful metrics and real-time workout performance charts like heartrate, estimated power, etc

What do you guys recommend as a cycling camera for cagie incidents? I've had a lot recently, including someone chasing me down the road threatening to kill me with their car.I ordered a DJI Osmo 4 for the front because I can also use it for other things. Then on the rear I'm split between a cheaper 150 pound action camera, pretty much just a cheap go pro or a cycling rear camera and light unit. The rear camera lasts 4hr on one charge but the footage is just going to be standard 720 whereas an action camera can be used for other things but also gives good quality pictures. Battery is around 2hr 10 minutes on the cheaper action cam, so I will have to replace them for some rides which is fine. I've got good lights already like the Bontrager Flare which is small and does a good job on the rear already. Any thoughts or considerations I'm missing? It plan to make some videos in the future so I get a good front, but the back camera would be 150 for the action cam or 200 for the light and rear cam.https://store.dji.com/uk/product/osmo-action-4?site=brandsite&from=landing_page&vid=144651https://www.amazon.co.uk/AKASO-Brave-Waterproof-Support-External-Grey/dp/B08NPYXT4Bhttps://cycliq.com/bike-cameras/fly6-gen3/?srsltid=AfmBOorE08pHawOLpGjyDSt8BpmSyf-NdrInQfpiuqR6Abbd_zMUtSJ3

>>2014231I'm UK and these people get prosecuted. I get no money, unless it's damage to property. Your mindset is backward, though if you're american it's different. If more cyclists had cameras and held drivers accountable for their dangerous driving, it will instill fear of prosecution and increased insurance costs therefore they'll find other ways to take out their anger. In the UK we have cycling mikey who is a popular channel and almost daily gets drivers reported. It does change mindsets and reminds people there are consequences for their actions. You want to drive head on at me and then chase me down a road saying you'll run me over? Probably getting banned for 6 months and he'll never do that again, his family and friends will know about it and they will adjust their behaviour. I'm an extremely conservative cyclist and I still get into a considerable amount of trouble with vehicles because as the post says, people are just psychotic and want to inflict pain on others. If we all had cameras cagies will be less likely to behave like that, and this is a fact that's proven in the UK at least.

Any decent free online route planners specifically for cyclists? Something like komoot?
Did my first (metric) century ride. My butt hurts.
>>2014354https://www.mapometer.com/cyclingstrava is better of course, but they paywalled their route planner. strava heatmaps is still useful for identifying the best roads/paths though.
The fact that themed, non-general threads are now 50% unrelated "I don't know where to put this" questions is a sign that the overbearing control freak push to make everything a general has been a failure. Just let people make their own damm threads. Not everything has to be a general.
>>2014419I don't mind people making threads about anything but they should actually contribute to their thread. Lets say it's a thread about buying a bike, I want to see some pics of the bike after they buy it and some thoughts on it. Lets say it's about fixing a mechanical issue, post pics about doing it, post updates if it worked or not. Contribute to the sum of board knowledge and show other posters how shit is done. If people want to start a thread they should actually have some idea about making a good thread. Whereas most of the time people start junk threads and get seethed at, they're just asking a really basic question, or pretending to ask advice about buying something they've already decided on, and then they don't contribute anything else.
>>2014435People are going to do it anyway, some of those "shit threads" turn out great, other high effort threads die, that's the nature of this website, you can't control everything, trying to control it just makes it suck more
I managed to find an XT hub on ebay that has the same flange specs as my current Deore hub so I'll be able to reuse my spokes. My current hub has had water get in it several times during spring riding and makes awful noises now despite a clean / lube. The XT hub has been out of production for a while so they are getting harder to find. LBS couldn't order one. As far as I can tell that was the last 135mm 6 bolt rotor xt hub. The hub I destroyed seems to be the legacy hub they are keeping around and I didn't want to go through the hassle of a wheel build to put one of those back in.
