installed a better looking and fitting intercooler and piping. I also got my 3d printed haltech ic7 mount installed and the dash buttoned up. changed gas laden engine oil from initial first start tuning and sealed a few leaks. almost there. this is the closest to streetable it's been in years.

Amazing how much of a difference a CAI and tune can make. OEM time/trap speed in the quarter mile is 15.4 @ 93mph. Next up is a PRL intercooler to help deal with heat soak

Based sub 15s car, my stupid old car might be a 19-20 second car when the stock intake gets really heat soaked

Anyone have experience putting new head units in? I want to put a nice stereo with Bluetooth and CarPlay into my 7th gen accord, but it has the navigation system. After looking stuff up online, xtrons came up as a good brand, but they state their unit doesn’t work with the factory navigation. Does that mean the unit won’t fit or just that the built-in navigation system won’t work? I don’t care about the latter if I have CarPlay.
>>
>>27593559
Holy shit you still use factory navi on a CM? How fucking old ARE you?
>>
>>27593699
No, I’m not using it, and I bought the car recently. After fixing mechanical issues, I want to make it look nice on the inside.

CM Accords are very annoying to work with due to how the dashboard is clipped together, you gotta take off the shifter bezel, the ashtray thing, , the center dashboard plastic vent piece, and then you've gotta solder the wiring to the harness adapter, and then plug it like factory into the CM's radio harness

I would personally pay a local audio shop to do all the wiring and installation for you.

Here's what you need

-Metra double din climate control unit part number 99-7803G $250

-Metra lower storage pocket part number 88-00-7803 $16

-Metra Stereo Wiring Harness 70-1721T $27

-Single DIN or double DIN stereo unit of your choosing $100 to the motherfucking sky if you pockets are deep

While he Metra double DIN kit is the most expensive way to put aftermarket radios into a CM Accord, but is the best and only option worth considering, do not get the little pocket that only lets you put a single DIN radio beaneath your old factory radio that is often broken on this cars.

This is the cheap $20 metra kit that puts the aftermarket radio beneath your factory one, as you can see it is very stupid

It did work though.
>>
>>27594000
I saw kits like that for the tsx but i would lose my little storage compartment
I still need to find a bezel with matching trim to try and hack a double din into. Just don't know how to blend the plastic to make it not look like shiy
>>
>>27593989
It’s less about the radio/cd/cassette and more about Bluetooth connectivity and the nice modern screen. I saw a kit on Amazon for 270 dollars that includes a large touchscreen that replaced the head unit. It kept the ac (but people reported problems with this), and the wiring was the same, so no need to solder anything. My question was really about the quality of these types of units and whether the built in Navi system would cause any significant problems with this approach. I wasn’t planning on the shitty pocket replacement.

>My question was really about the quality of these types of units
I absolutely cannot bring myself to suggest any chinese touch screen climate head units to be installed into CM Accords, the usability of the unit, not only are the usability and audio quality of said units very poor, but you're stuck with what you've got, meanwhile someone with the $250 Metra double DIN kit can always upgrade their head unit, should new technologies come along, you're all wired up and have a standardized double DIN hole in your dashboard to put it in, and even if you get something and never upgrade like me, a good carplay unit from the likes of PIONEER, KENWOOD, SONY, JVC is what you're gonna want, it's gonna sound good, it's gonna be perfectly usable because it's not some cheap crap.

Trust me Anon, from one 7th gen Accord to another, you'll be glad you spend the money on that $250 Metra kit and name brand stereo unit, even if you have to put money aside every pay period and save for it, you'll have something in the dash that sounds good, works extremely well, and that you can be proud to show off.

anyone here drove these til it died? how many miles did it have on it? any tips to keep it alive as long as possible, beyond regular maintenance?
>>
>>27597208
>beyond regular maintenance
That's what it takes though, if you've got leaks or anything fix it, check the oil level at least every month, and it shouldn't be blowing up, that's half the failures on Hondas, people not looking after it, driving it daily and not caring, and they still go pretty long.
>>
>>27597208
D series engines had overheating and head gasket issues
>>
>>27597266
Also this, check your coolant level to see if it's escaping somewhere and not it's nota radiator leak, I had a neighbor who could occasionally be seen filling up his D17 Civic with coolant because it was likely blown and he was making due, hope it was leaking out of the pump or rad, but could've been blown, I felt bad.

Been looking at getting a new intercooler for my FK7 and there's a few options available. HKS (most expensive, excellent quality), PRL (mid price, good quality), Garrett (similar price to PRL, similar quality), and Injen (lowest price, unknown quality). Mishimoto is also an option but I've heard a lot of negative stuff about them.

I had a MIshi for my CV2 Accord, and there are 4 downsides to it.
1. The fasters needed to be replaced with better ones
2. The fasterners needed gaskets under them and rubber puffering under the panel that was held down by them
3. The tapped holes for the MAF were too tight. I had broach them a tad wider for fasterners
4. The MAF did not sit flush so when screwed down all the way, the MAF housing that has the screw ports cracked.
Other than that everything fine.

I have a PRL intercooler for my FL2 Civic. It's a tad hard to install (as they all are) but there are zero downsides. It's worth the money and I'm glad I got it. Go with PRL.
>>
>>27599346
I had a Mishi housed short ram intake ( they call it an HVI)*

sorry for the mistake
dentist work done today, made me dizzy and it's hard to read
>>
>>27599346
I was leaning towards the PRL one to begin with since I've already got parts from them (Cobra CAI w/race MAF & RMM), so I was curious to see how the other options stacked up. Glad to see my concern with Mishimoto was warrented
>>
>>27591446
So i know there will probably be a bias, but i'm looking to get a reliable car for under $9k, and i'm torn between a 2009 honda fit with 90k miles, or a 2018 mazda3 with 102k miles for the same price. What would you guys choose?

The thing i consider is that the fit is a cheap car, but at this point, i'm buying reliability to avoid something with a CVT or turbos. On the flip side, with the mazda, i'd be getting a comfier car with 10 years less natural wear and more features.
And yes, a honda fit for just under 9k because here in texas, cheaper would usually have you finding worn out higher mileage examples, salvage/rebuilt titles, or something with hail damage.
>>
>>27600055
Mazda looks appetizing as fuck
>>
>>27600071
It's the touring model, too.
>>
>>27600055
I don't see Mazda 3s on the road anymore. Few and far between. That tells you something. Fits are all over. Same with Civics of the 8th gen.
>>
>>27600172
Here in central texas, they're both everywhere. Typically seen Mazda3's more than fits just because people here tend to aim towards not-compact-vehicles.
definately a step behind civics, corollas, etc, but still everywhere and seen daily none the less. Also mazda's reliability and customer support ratings going way up recently really have them under my radar if newer.

found a 2001 manual accord for 2k NZD less than market price, listed by an indian on facebook. He's sent inspection sheets and it all looks decent from what I can tell despite his terrible communication. Only glaring issue is that he's owned it for only about two months. I'm thinking of checking it out tomorrow. Any tips?
>>
>>27601340
That be a flipper, but if the car passes inspection and is in good shape, I don't see a problem here, I've seen some one owner, relatively low mileage cars that need so much in neglected maintenance, that the car isn't even worth buying, a car being inspected every time it changes hands is something I like about countries that have that, makes a car with multiple owners a good thing sometimes, where as in America, it's not uncommon to see someone driving a literal piece of shit that is unsafe because no one forces them to fix anything like brakes, tires, suspension, etc to keep it a safe car for the roads.

So I know nothing about cars. First car of mine. Bought a 04 Civic from a friend, got it for cheap but it needs some tuning. just got the catalytic converter swapped out with a cheap after market part and the cars been running smoother. However, when I idle too long or when my car starts, the engine makes a rhythmic pulse like noise as if I was accelerating very briefly and braking just as briefly. the lights dim intermittently in tandem with the noise but the issue disappears when I accelerate after some time. No clue what the issue might be, alternator perhaps? I was hoping it would disappear after the catalytic converter got replaced.
On one drive the car was particularly being pushed and the radio ended up turning off for a moment on me which spooked the fuck out of me but the car was still on.
Anyone familiar with an 04 Civic DX might be able to clue me in? Would appreciate it.

Most people sleep on hondas or are at most aware of the civic fanboys being a thing but they are bland forgettable cars until you have the pleasure of driving and especially shifting one.
It feels like playing a videogame, instead of digging around a bowl of mush to find your gear.

Can I get some recommendations for a t3 turbo for my K20A3? I'm looking to make around ~250HP. Not concerned for price.
>>
>>27607960
Try a T04E if you can find it, they're pretty good and decently spooling on a 2 liter
>>
>>27607960
>>27608408
Bit more specific, a 50 trim 2.75" inlet T04E would be perfect, in fact it'll easily be able to make at least 300whp on pump gas.

My only advice is to be on the look out for EP3 or FN1–4 as you can probably find them for significantly cheaper and with a K20 variant stock if the goal is to track it.
Those older ones are getting very desirable and collectible.
