This is a ~10 second video of a 100% stock F22A1 motor in a beat to shit CB7 Accord. I don't know enough about these motors to know whether this sounds normal or not, would you kindly listen and let me know what you think?

Is it, as the kids say these days, "cooked"? Thank you.
>>
>>27828142
Do you know when tensioner and timing belt were last done? The thing sounds good apart from that little noise, the bottom end is knocking or anything.
>>
>>27828150
>Do you know when tensioner and timing belt were last done?

I got precisely dick for service records on this car other than the oil being done about 1,200 miles ago (sticker inside the windshield). The motor is at 176k so I don't know whether they are due or not, I just know that they are due.

>The thing sounds good apart from that little noise, the bottom end is knocking or anything.

That's reassuring. My phone's mic kinda sucks, it doesn't sound quite as high pitched (not quite as much of a "clack" sound) in person, I just haven't ever heard a motor that sounds like that (and trying to find audio of a stock motor on youtube wasn't panning out).
>>
>>27828164
>I got precisely dick for service records on this car
Yeah if it's a neglected old car at almost 200K, the previous person probably didn't even know that it has a timing belt and tensioner that need replacing every 100K, very common on timing belt Hondas for a knocking sound to occur when the tensioner goes bad and the belt somehow hasn't snapped off yet.

Good, the NA 2.0 is going to last a lot longer than the turbo 1.5. the little turbo 1.5s have oil dilution issues, and turbos just wear out your engine faster in general. A cvt isn't ideal, stick shift is better for reliability, but in a small, light car a cvt isn't too big a problem, and the honda cars are pretty good. You should be good up to like 150k miles, then maybe think about selling

Question, I'm in need of a random piece of trim for a car that's impossible to find in the junkyard locally or even Ebay (I've looked) but there are online suppliers selling it. When they state it's for the left side, that typically means left staring at the car from the front like you're viewing a diagram of the car, correct? I'm gonna be beyond miserable if I pay $50+ for a piece of rubber and it's for the wrong side.

Should you replace a fuel pump as preventive maintenance at 300k? Only with a proper OEM original of course.
>>
>>27831482
There's no guarantee the new fuel pump will be even half as reliable as the OEM one inside the car even at >200k miles. Plus having your fuel pump fail on you isn't even catastrophic, you just have to get towed it's not like having a timing belt come off and fucking the entire engine.

Having an issue with the transmission on a completely rebuilt Civic (engine + trans).
If I do a pull for example in 2nd gear up to 5500 -> 7K RPM, and then shift up into the next gear there is no problem there, but shortly after if I try to downshift back into the gear I did the pull in - The transmission feels like it "locks" me out of the gear, like I just hit a wall when trying to go in.
There's no grinding noise, it just acts like it can't get into the gear. Eventually I'm able to shift into gear if I start going into other gears randomly, just moving the shifter into 1st, 4th, etc and eventually the gear I did the pull in will "open" back up.

I'm going to try bleeding the clutch soon, but any other ideas? There never seems to be a problem shifting UP, but only back down after a pull (like 2 -> 3 -> 2 or 3 -> 4 -> 3).
Going to ask in sqt as well.
>>
>>27831513

JDM kei stuff is really overpriced in America, considering we have Hondas we can buy that the Japanese would be drooling over, such as K series stuff. the Japs do what they do with little shitty 3 cylinder engines out of necessity and space, here in America where they're free, that's when Honda cranks out their best, K series, J series, luxury cruisers sold at low prices as Accords, etc.
>>
>have a high mile 2012 Accord I love, LX
>not really worth making cool and fast, high miles, needs work
Anything significant I could do to it would be more worthwhile to get a coupe and/or v6. I'm more so trying to learn and I don't really have money to throw at it anyways.

What are the dirtest, cheapest, not too hard mods and methods to make it drive better/give it more horse power, or at least make it look like it's worth the body mods I'm gonna do to it?
>>
>>27833698
Just do the maintenance Anon, if it needs suspension work to make it tight and good handling, save for it, if it needs tune up work like spark plugs, do it, you'd be amazed how much horsepower an Accord picks up when you replace a dirty intake filter with a new one, and tune up stuff like that is extremely cheap. Also, meeting your car on it's own terms is free and is a wonderful thing, as a sports car, Accords are kinda mediocre, but driven as a GT, a cruiser, it's the best car around, go on a road trip in your nice comfortable car and see some beautiful shit, Anon.
>>
Looking at a '17 Accord Sport. There's a free carfax attached to the listing. I noticed that the previous owner did regular servicing which is great, but looking at the mileage he only did oil changes every 20,000 km (12.4k miles). This isn't so bad, right?
This is in Canada so winter conditions can impact the engine performance.

>"Honda typically recommends oil changes every 7,500 miles (12,000 kilometers) under normal driving conditions. For severe driving conditions, the recommendation is more frequent, around every 3,750 miles (6,000 kilometers)."
>>
>>27833698
if you want to make more horsepower you're going to have to have the ecu flashed in addition to parts.
if you put stuff like intake, header, intake manifold, vtc gear, exhaust without it you're not really doing much.
i'm also not sure if the k24z engines and the k24a engines are the same as far as compatibilty goes
>>
>>27833776
Yeah if the dude's got a regular LX instead of the LX-S or EX, he doesn't have the higher revving VTEC one, I still think he should crooze around with it like Accords are good at doing.

>>
>>27833910
I would just enjoy the car as it is, change the oil often and keep clean filters in it so that it can breathe, my car is older and less horsepower than yours and it's hauling as much ass as possible for what it is because I am on point with the maintenance.
>>
>>27833910
Its a good car, just not the particular variant of the engine that you'd want to put money building up. If you can get an rsx or a first gen tsx or some si civic that would be a much better starting point (or put the engines into whatever you want)
>>
>>27833776
>>27833910
8g Accord EX or 2g TSX K24Z3 is a direct swap into K24Z2 vehicles and is very plentiful and cheap, like almost K24A4-level. 8g Accord EX/LX ECUs are probably direct compat too, just would take reprogramming/disabling the immobilizer (dealer $$$$$, ktuner $$$$$, or a $50 counterfeit HDS tool and some luck) and more than likely swapping engine bay harnesses. Honda likes to reuse things across multiple trims in the same MY, so the other body electronics (CAN IDs and such) are probably directly compatible.
Fuck around and find out my friend! Just as long as you have a backup car.

I have, my plan is to have the dings on my quarter panels and right door taken out, and I have been quoted $3,047 for a dual stage paint job with clear coat similar to how a car is painted at a nice body shop, of course I would masking tape off anything I don't want painted, I even have a brand new front grille that isn't faded with a new Honda emblem and the Accord DX badges and Honda logo for the trunklid.

It's definitely been a long restoration, but at least the hard part of every last little thing mechanical being fixed up to make it drive like showroom new is done, and the car is absolutely beautiful considering how it looks.

>>
>>27836751
The sad part is that's actually an amazing deal at MAACO for how fantastic the finish would look, I have seen Acuras get restored, and they can spend over $7500 for a dual stage paint job because of all of the disassembly required to get in the nooks and crannies, but taping the car off as best I can so that no overspray gets into the door jambs or anywhere else, $3,000 is worth it, I've seen some of these results of a dual stage "tape and spray" on an Accord, and I think "holy crap that's exactly what I'm going for".

Do yourself a favor and remove exterior trim like door handles, weatherstripping, side mouldings, headlights and taillights + pop your bumpers off. Yeah you can mask all of it in a jiffy but the new clear coat will delaminate because 1, you can't sand behind trim or bumpers with them still on and 2, all that shit is rattling around a d running on your nice new paint exactly where you can't sand to ensure adhesion
It takes time but it's worth it in the end

It's actually quite handy Anon, there are times when going up a super steep incline where I lock my Accord in 1st gear so that it doesn't upshift and lose torque on the way up, or let's say i'm doing some sporty driving where I don't want the transmission to go into 4th and 5th gear overdrive like it's cruising, I can put it in D3 and have a higher engine speed for more power to accelerate without downshifting.

This is typically something normal drivers will never need, but it is a good thing to be able to manually control an automatic transmission when you need to.

The last owner said an imported Japanese motor was put in a long time ago. The serial number on it doesn't match up with any decoding information in the Legend USDM service manual. It's in pretty good shape and doesn't make the worn out hydraulic lifter noise that these usually make with high mileage. Doesn't leak a drop of oil. Original thermostat from engine manufacture was in it when I changed it this year. Still worked.
But yeah, "keeping it alive" about the describes the state of the car. It hasn't been driven much in the last few years due to small issues, but it's been getting driven daily now. 5-speed manual Legend Coupe is the manual V6 accord coupe we never had.

> Drive CB7 Accord for the first time a while back
> Steering radius feels huge for a medium sedan

Is this a quirk of the platform or do I just have retarded expectations? Are angle kits possible? I'm not planning on trying to be a dorifto hotboi with a fucking f/f 125hp car, I just want to get super tight handling for low speed driving in town. There are a lot of really tight rural mountain roads in this area and when I had my previous car I would take a lot of night time cruises on them to relax/clear my head sometimes after work or whatever. I'd feel a lot better about that in this car if my steering angles were sharper.

I'm still new at all of this shit so if this question sounds retarded it probably is.
>>
>>27840033
That's normal, being that the wheelbase is so much bigger than a Civic of the era, Accords can seem like they have the biggest fucking turning radius, but they're not that bad Anon.

Depends on the cop, the town, the infraction, the time of the month, the time of the day, the cop's mood, the condition of your car, and (most importantly) how your are during the conversation.

Some cops will smoke you for anything and everything they can no matter what. They'll pull you over and stomp up all aggro, they'll run your shit, make up some BS story about "detecting the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle" and make you sit on the sidewalk for 45 minutes while they get a K9 unit out, and then write you the fattest ticket they think they can justify simply because (they say) you did a 2.9 second signal on a lane change three miles back instead of a full 3s.

Some cops will pull you over because you have expired tags, bald tires, dragging exhaust, a cracked windshield, and a broken tail light, walk up, see you, see the full condition of your vehicle, tell you he's going to cut you a break because he can clearly determine that you cannot afford to pay the $1,000 worth of tickets he could be writing you, give you a "fix it" ticket, say you've got 30 days to address the issues, and off the record tell you the name of the place in town where you can get the cheapest used tires.

It all depends.

>>110 mph cruising in the CM
Terrible for the car, also a very serious crime that they WILL drag you through court for. You got lucky on what is probably a first offense.
>>
>>27840368
After about 120mph the sunroof wind deflector on my friend's CL9 starts to rattle and shake like crazy.
He said he hopes it doesn't tear off above 140
>>
>>27840376
Bro you're both risking your freedom for jack shit. They WILL throw you in jail. Also you're probably overheating the oil to get those speeds. Good luck with the engine rebuild(s)
>>
>>27840368
>Terrible for the car
She loves it anon, 3750 rpm and it tears the freeway up like nothing, still pretty based for the cops to warn my ass, 100+ mph isn't an arrest but you're getting a 30 day suspension, a fine, and insurance increased, so it's really not worth it but it's pretty epic.

You're a retard. You're going to get arrested and your car is going to get impounded and by the time you get out of jail the tow+impound fees will be more than the car is worth.

If you are "lucky" you might get the chance to buy your own car back 4 months later when it goes up for auction.
>>
>>27840552
They're decent cars and should last 200k miles or so, but be aware that battery replacement will be expensive when the hybrid battery gets old. Imo you'd be better off buying an old prius and swapping in a refurb battery yourself. You can get prius batteries with a warranty for less than 1k, and a used prius with a bad battery for like 5k max. They're pretty solid cars if gas mileage is your main concern. If gas mileage isn't your main concern then stop being a retard and buy a manual civic

tighten up the cruise control throttle cable located underneath the black cruise control unit's cover under the hood.
>>

I had a problem in my es1 where it wouldn't engage cruise control when the button waws pressed. I fixed it by taping a penny on the brake pedal sensor.

My Crosstour does this annoying thing where if I hit the lock button twice it turns on. Is this a feature? It's very annoying because sometimes I click it twice just out of habit and my fucking car is idling suddenly...if I get in then depress the brake pedal it turns off.
>>
>>27842546
This is fat (in a good way)
>>
>>27842592
Shit Anon, I think your car has remote start, that's kind of a based feature on a 2015.
>>
>>27842602
I hate it. Is this for people who like the heat or something in the winter. Makes me feel paranoid every time I leave my car. I just let it idle for like 5min accidentally and only turned it off because I had to get back to my car to get something. Does it shut off after a while automatically?
>>
>>27842607
Yeah it's for people to run the engine on their locked car and heat it up before they get in and car, I don't know if it's timed or not, but that's awesome feature on something that's not even an Acura product.
>>
>>27841461
>Tighten up
I don't know, is it really gonna help tightening up a cruise control that acts like something's sticking somehow?

>>27841746
My cruise control sometimes has trouble engaging, but there's no clear pattern on when the cruise control switch decides to misbehave. What's the likelihood my brake switch is barely out of adjustment?
>>
>>27842730
I think I misunderstood what your issue was with it.
Make sure the linkage and cable sleeves are lubricated under the hood and at the pedal.
If your cruise is slow to engage, tightening the cable will help.
If your cruise randomly disengages or sometimes won't engage, usually moving the brake and clutch pedal switch closer to the stop helps.
If issues persist, the cruise control motor may have a bad spot.
>>
>>27842743
>Make sure the linkage and cable sleeves are lubricated under the hood and at the pedal.
Is there a particular lubricant I should be using for this purpose?

>If your cruise randomly disengages or sometimes won't engage, usually moving the brake and clutch pedal switch closer to the stop helps.
I have the automatic transmission, but I read one of those switches is supposed to be released to do a thing, and the other one is supposed to be depressed to do its thing. If it turns out my switch is out of spec, is the brake switch supposed to be pressed or released in order to allow cruise control to engage?
>>
>>27842759
the brake switch should be fully depressed against the stop on the pedal to keep cruise activated.
The brake pedal switch is a 4-pin, dual-stage switch that cancels cruise control when the switch is <1mm released, and activates the brake lamps when the pedal is about 2-3mm released. There is a 12 or 14mm locknut you can loosen to adjust the height of the switch. Make sure to unplug it before spinning it. This is the only brake pedal switch on a Honda.
The clutch has two switches, one that activates when the clutch is fully depressed (clutch safety switch), and one for cancelling cruise and/or sending a signal to the ECU (on some Acura Legends from the same era) that activates as soon as the clutch leaves home position. You have an auto so this is irrelevant to your case.
The rubber stop that rests against the switch sometimes becomes diveted, or falls out. I replace missing ones with with a nut and a bolt with the bolt head becoming the switch's new rest surface.
>>
>>27842774
>The rubber stop that rests against the switch sometimes becomes diveted

Guess I'll try that penny trick before messing with the brake switch.
>>
>>27842783
The penny trick is a good hot-fix, but if you're looking for a more permanent repair, popping the rubber stop out and sticking a short bolt and nut through the hole works well too.
>>
>>27842798
Either way, I'm just doing this for diagnostic purposes.

2003-2012 Accords with 4 cylinder are probably the greatest car ever made if you're into saving fuel and having a nice comfortable car that works and doesn't go that fast, and for a Civic you would want a 2006-2011 model, good car.

You can also buy the exact rubber stopper (well, doorman brand not OEM) at your friendly neighborhood vatozone for the low, low price of $10 for a piece of plastic smaller than your pinky. I hate vatozone so fucjing much but yes I did buy it instead of using s bolt because my autism will not permit using a bolt where there should br plastic

I'm looking at wagons...
This 2000 JDM Accord Wagon 4WD caught my attention.
Under $8,000 before importation costs.
There are SiR 4WD models.

That's a lot of money for a 2000 model car that Japs themselves think is old junk at this point, I don't know if you're in America but I'd rather have an Acura TSX sport wagon, yeah it's Automatic only, but it's the 200 HP K24 and it wouldn't cost much more for a car that is rare at about 11,000 of them built, has a superior drivetrain and it actually modern while basically being an Accord wagon.

i'm tired of having my pockets emptied out at autozone for little rubber bits and whatnot. If I can fix it somewhat elegantly with whatever crap I have in the garage, that's what I will do. $10 is half an hour pay for me at work, and it takes me less than half an hour to stick a bolt up there.
