I was riding mine today and that was what I noticed too. I was on flat ground and I'm relatively light so I was getting about 70 at half throttle. I imagine I could get 75 or 78 flat out if I hunched.
I was thinking of the front sprocket upgrade to maybe get into the 80s but idk if it's worth the torque sacrifice. I'm offroad most of the time.

I actually think it's detrimental how many people are getting XT250s because it's great for a beginner bike but people will quickly find themselves wanting other things as they outgrow it.

I think, I haven't outgrown mine yet.
>>
>>28041718
I may never outgrow mine
A sixth gear would be nice but that's really all I'm missing from it. It can do highway speeds and it's great off-road and I don't really need more than that if I wanted to take it anywhere.

MAYBE I'd like an extra gallon or two on the tank, that's it.
>>
>>28041691
I wanted to ask: Where did you find extra plastics for the xt250? I can find plastics for every KLX under the sun but not the xt.

Bros… I can’t do it anymore.
I loved riding my bike but the people that ride just suck. I went to a bar with bikes and they were mean. All I do is ride alone and the more I think about it the less I wanna do it. It’s just such a hassle when I can play video games and stay at home. I think I’m gonna sell my bike back to the dealership. For anybody who is wondering if they should get into riding, just don’t. It’s expensive, the people that ride suck and it’s dangerous. Better off buying a bicycle instead.

You are likely depressed and/or socially isolated and hoped that it would give you an "Identity". This is a common mistake with motorcycles for some reason, I don't know why, but it's a mistake nonetheless. You're just YOU, you're not a "Biker" because you bought one. If it's too much effort/stress/cost and YOU don't love the machine, you should sell it (privately). You have to love the machine enough to overcome the risk of how badly it can destroy you.

Possibly, I did get it to make friends but I did really enjoy riding when I get into it. Thing is, putting on all the gear, helmet feeling heavy after a while and my glasses keep hurting my head just annoy me. There’s no where for me to go when I hop on, no friends to come along and Im in a state that has fuck all. I guess I can give it up until I live in Cali. Colorado is very pretty but its miserable if you’re a single guy in his 20’s
>>
>>28041846
>but its miserable if you’re a single guy in his 20’s
im sure there are a million young single men in colorado that are perfectly happy with their lives.
it sounds like you are depressed and miserable
moving to cali isnt going to change that
you are going to have a honeymoon period and then be just as lonely and just as miserable as you are now.
you have to find your own joy in life that is independent from everyone and everything else.
>>
>>28041866

Rookie mistake. You don't ride a bike if you don't genuinely enjoy riding a bike.

I took my bike in to an independent shop to get my front forks rebuilt back in August. >>
>>28042177
first off, give yourself credit for fighting off the urge to stay hermitmode in your house, and for experiencing the world with your face pressed up right against the glass. it can be a very deceptive, powerful urge

second off: every bike is more alike every other bike than it is different. when yours is running your experience is overlapping 80% of the other people's experience -- and you're not making payments
>>
>>28042177
You could alwqys buy used 2-6 years out of current year production and be just as cool as the retard financing a depreciating asset that he is reselling you for 2/3 cost new, and you get all his goodies like heated gribs

Or you can finance and pay off as quickly as possible

At a bare minimum you need a 3/8 wrench and a set of metric sockets, and a set of screwdrivers. Other than that just buy tools you need whenever the need arises. If you want to pay for convenience, an impact wrench is the #1 time and effort saver that you can get for your money. Also, don't go to harbor freight, buy good tools used on Craigslist. I'm going to put money on this bike actually being good. I've come across forum posts from people that tracked the XSR900 and said the engine makes it a surprisingly good track bike. The R9 claiming to be the lightest Yamaha supersport yet means its probably going to be a great track bike. Add to that bigger breaks, bigger radiator and good suspension, and I think this thing will be a winner.

>>
>>28042548
How do you wheelie a 125? I only managed to lift the wheel once and it was a very slow speed first gear redline clutch up. It doesn't want to go up
>>
>>28042550
lean back real hard and say "YUHGHUUUH" + redline clutchdump
>>
>>28042550
Same way you wheelie anything, it just requires more body balancing and relatively more power.
>>
>>28042550
if you're having trouble getting the nose up there's a few things you can do:
>lose weight
>shorter sprockets
>push the front down and pull back on the rebound while you gas it
>use your left leg to put weight on the passenger peg
i had to change sprockets on my fz6 to be able to hold wheelies after the last owner tried to make it into a wannabe r6 and now i dont have to yank the thing up and dump the clutch at redline anymore
>>

Buying a small condo and realizing I wont have room for a 2nd car so Im thinking about getting a bike instead. Are there any issues storing them inside living areas (fumes, spillage etc) if maintained well and placed on a rug/mat?
>>
>>28042706
I hate loud bikes too but they're only really obnoxiously loud when people put shitty aftermarket mufflers/shorties on there. this is a problem you should be concerned about because it makes the already fairly quiet stock exhausts even more difficult for manufacturers to hit requirements and bikes you like could stop being made. really has nothing to do with the harley guy straight piping his shit or the 21 year old redlining his supersport at 3am, you already don't really hear the loud bikes. if you ride a bike with a stock exhaust and think it's too loud please give an example
>>
>>28042765
> fumes
This makes in-house storage practically impossible. If there is fuel in your tank, there will be fumes in your room.
Store outside or get an electric bike.

gas tanks have been sealed since the 90s
you dont get fuel vapor leaking out of them
thats not a thing that happens
you dont know what you are talking about
>>
>>28042782
I'm neither of those anons but I thought fuel vapors expand due to heat and there's a valve that opens to vent to prevent pressure from building in the tank. I've often heard it whirring on bikes I ride even when they're off, not sure if that's an issue or not
>>

Sealed or not, if a tank is made of HDPE or similar non-impermeable plastic there will be fuel vapours in the room.

>In 1961, Kunimitsu[1] Takahashi, riding his RC162, became the first Japanese on a Japanese-made motorcycle to win the World Grand Prix Championship. This RC162 was powered by an air-cooled, inline 4-cylinder dual-overhead-cam 4-valve engine. It was similar to the RC161's engine but with important improvements, such as a cylinder angle reduced from 35 to 30 degrees. The compression ratio stayed the same, at 10.5:1, but the wet-sump lubrication system was replaced with a dry sump because of its lower horsepower loss and superior heat dissipation. Honda also added a magneto ignition system and ordinary round-slide carburettors instead of its predecessor's flat-slide carburettors.

With these improvements, the 44-mm bore, 41-mm stroke, 249.367-cc engine generated a top power of over 41 hp—10 hp more than its predecessor—at 4,000 r.p.m. and maximum torque of 15.12 lb-ft at 2,000 r.p.m. Put to the ground by a six-speed transmission, this was enough power to propel the 278-lb bike to a top speed of at least 135 mph.

>This engine began as a 4-cylinder version of the 2-cylinder, 4-valve, dual-overhead-cam 125-cc unit in the RC142, the first machine Honda entered in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy race. Honda's first 4-cylinder machine, the RC160, later evolved into the RC161 and then the RC162. Like the RC142, the RC160 had bevel-gear cam drive and leading-link front suspension. Led by Sadao Shimazaki, Honda riders astride their RC160s took first through third place in the light endurance class at the Mt. Asama competition, then considered the pinnacle of Japanese racing. From the RC160 to the RC162, Honda achieved astounding technological advancement in the span of only 2 years.

To handle the extra power, the single-backbone frame was upgraded to a double-backbone one for improved stiffness. Size 2.75-18 tyres were mounted to the H-section rims. For the RC161, size 3.00-18 was used for the rear rim, reflective of Honda's policy in those days of using tyres one size larger for the rear wheel of its motorsports machines. Front and rear drum brakes were used, with a double-sided single-leading shoe system in the front.

It's not claiming to be the lightest Yamaha supersport, it's claiming to have the lightest frame which while I could believe it's just because it's designed with more lateral flex than the R6 is probably because they're counting swingarms as part of the frame.

The really funny thing is people are coping about it being 11lbs heavier than the R6 with MUH YURO 5 EXHAUST but actually putting an Akrapovic full system on an R6 takes off 11lbs while the MT09 only loses 6 because it doesn't need to be choked nearly as much to pass. Even if it didn't have all the extra electronics for gaylords it would still be heavier, the engine is just too fat. Even then while muh torks is fine and all for track days where people are afraid to shift it will be canceled out by the long wheelbase and heavy crank making it harder to turn as far as performance.

Also the seat being way forward like the MT09 or an R3 means as a track bike it's for manlets.

Suzuki isn't selling it in Europe, Kawasaki is though. Really the existence of the ZX6 just invalidates the R9 entirely unless you are a bitch made zoomer or cringe boomer who refuses to buy a bike without electronic aids and smart phone connectivity for everything.

The R6 might be harder to get through because it's the most (arguably excessively) extreme of the 600 engine designs but I think there's some desire to future proof the lineup knowing they already have a 115hp engine available. This definitely costs less to build so the profit margin should be better.

Carmelina's is a nice italian spot in the north end. Hokkaido Ramen in Back Bay is a great place to get ramen and Naksan on commonwealth has my favorite korean bbq. I don't know if you care for F1 at all but we also have the first official bar location in the US. They have racing sim setups and it makes for some good fun.

True but they make great bottoms. All that riding tones their ass up tight. The deep rumble of my cruiser compared to their effeminate high revving engines gets their bussy tight

Is "rev hang" on a TU250X normal? Basically when revving the bike up and letting off the throttle it takes a moment to come back down, longer than all my other bikes. It doesn't really feel like a lean condition though, it feels like the bike just has a really heavy flywheel or something that gives the motor a lot of momentum. When I'm shifting fast for instance, I can't avoid the forward-jerk which I get from letting off the clutch because the RPM doesn't decrease fast enough even when I let off the throttle completely.

I know I don't have any leaks, I tested the compression and it's good, the secondary throttle cam stop is adjusted correctly, it's a fuel injected model and there really is not much that could possibly be wrong with it. So I'm fairly sure that this is normal but I find it odd because my other bikes are nothing like this. Can anyone else confirm?

tell me about the different makes/models and engine longevity

for instance, i know my bmw can easily do 150k miles. probably 300k honestly. i love the idea of a KTM 690 but as someone who does 20k+/yr, seeing people online say that they're happy if that bikes makes it to 70k gives me extreme pause. why would i spend $4000 on a bike that lasts 3 years, and i have to rebuild the top end every 25k?

so tl;dr give me a rundown on the lifespan of different makes

Hey fellow big chungus, I started with a honda navi, did fine putting around town under 40mph (that's freedom units for 65 in countries that have health care). Struggled on hills, and there were a few times I had close calls with people who didn't realize just how fast I was losing speed going uphill. I'm 6'2, 255 (was 295 when I got the navi, it became noticeably faster with every 10lbs lost). Ended up getting a real bike after a few months (nc700x). I wpupd skip the pocket bikes entirely, go ahead and get something midsized. I know the 125 is a little stronger than the 110 I had, but I really think you will be happier and safer on something bigger.

Who's dressing up and riding around for Halloween this year?
>>
>>28043650
It's less make and more build. A modern crf300l could do 100k without a top end if ridden without gripping the throttle like it owes you money every single mile, older tw200s and xt250s might see 60-80k miles and need a rebuild (though with strict maintenance reports of 100k miles exist). Both thumpers, similar compression, different designs. There's a vfr800 that did >1 million miles on the original clutch pack and needed no rebuild as well. Yamaha cp2 engines have already seen 250k miles without rebuilds and there's probably a thousand gold wings by now that have hit >500k miles.

Big motor turning slowly lasts longer than small motor revving to the moon constantly.
That's the basic principal behind the idea at least. Takes some real magic (honda, historically) to rev the tits off a motor and have it last for decades.

I sgould rephrase, only Jesus can fix the spiritual destitute nature
>>
>>28043685
>Big motor turning slowly lasts longer than small motor revving to the moon constantly.
i simply don't believe that speed is more of a factor than force
big engine turn more slowly yes, but also needs to withstand higher forces

but literally as i type this i change my mind and agree with you, since most bike engines probably do more than 100hp/liter, so i suppose bike engines are (on average) more powerful per lb of steel than their equivalent naturally aspirated car engines
>>
>>28043676
>whereas honda the nicest people
between the cb500x guy who flaked last year, and you with the cb/crf/vfr who flaked, I'd say honda is the flakiest brand in dbt

Then you realized friction is the thing that wears engines out and force is the thing that breaks them.
