I've been doing 35mm slack like they say, but much more than that means that when I push the chain up it literally just hits the swingarm. I think it might actually be that a lot of the links are a little bit stiff, so the tension might be a bit inconsistent.

I was thinking of buying a motorbike but I experienced a scary situation
>Drive my shitbox fast on a forest road
>suddenly a sign says there's a corner
>see it too late and not brake as hard as I should
>I enter the corner at like 35 mph
>fall out of my lane
>if there was someone going in the opposite direction (unlikely, it was far from civilization), I would hit him
Now, what if I was riding a bike? Would centrifugal force overturn me if I entered a corner like this at such speed? Would it result in permanent damage? Are bike brakes less effective than car brakes? And generally speaking, how plausible is it to fall over or otherwise kill or seriously damage yourself on a bike?
>>
>>28054091
>centrifugal force
No, bikes lean to turn. The faster you're going, the more you're leaning over, just as a geometric fact. They don't just stay upright like cars.
If you do fail to go around a corner on a bike, it happens fairly similarly to a car in that one of both of your tyres loses traction and slides out.

Basically, if you enter a corner too fast on a bike all you can do is lean further into the turn and hope that you make it out. Braking mid corner is guaranteed to kill you, pretty much.

>how plausible is it to fall over or otherwise kill or seriously damage yourself on a bike?
Risks have both likelihood and consequences. You can reduce the likelihood of crashing by taking professional instruction and learning how to ride really well, and you can reduce the consequences by always wearing full gear.
>>
>>28054091
>>28054096
>Are bike brakes less effective than car brakes?
Forgot to answer this one. In theory, bikes will always brake slower than cars because they have a smaller contact patch with the road. But in practice bikes generally have softer (gripper) tyres than cars, and just by nature of how they're used most bikes are sportier than most cars. So in practice it's probably fairly similar, with probably an edge to the car.
Also braking hard on a bike is a skill that you have to learn, you can't just mash the brake as hard as you can and expect it to work perfectly.
>>
>>28054096
>Braking mid corner is guaranteed to kill you, pretty much.
you can brake mid corner without dying, but you will likely lowside if you grab a fistfull of brake without cornering abs.

Anons, I'm completely bored of my CBR. It makes fuck all noise at low revs and it's geared so long that I can't enjoy high revs without going dangerously fast.
Ideally I want a Panigale 899 or rs660 but insurance fags quoted me the moon. What else is good? Is a VFR as boring?
Strangely I had a cheap quote for a Hypermotard 950 but a Supersport 950 cost 5x more. Likewise a gsxs1000f was cheap but a gsxr600 was impossible.
Given the insurance rates I'm tempted to 'build' the bike I want from a naked base like st765 or monster1200 and slap a set of fairings on for weather protection like pic rel.
Really I just want something that's fun at street speeds and has that illusive 'character'

Ride it and find out. NX500 is not a bad bike, and honda is a honda.
But I find 450MT a much more nimble, light and comfortable bike that is just like NX500, but better in everything except fuel efficiency. Long-term reliability is yet to be seen though, so far owners report no issues after 10kkm.

What a fuck up this bike is by Ducati:

>Supposed to be sports tourer

>Abysmal fuel range
>Electronic throttle but no cruise control.

>100hp at the wheel

They're very reliable. My 500 platform bike did 60,000 miles without issue before I sold it. They're not off roaders, the suspension can't take it and the 19 front wheel is a fashion item. Imo the 1st gen cb500x with it's 17 inch front was a better bike.
The various suspension and braking mods like the twin disc and inverted forks didn't make the bike any better. Go for it, just be prepared that it won't set your world on fire

Where I live the mini bikes run from the cops because the no chase rules are pretty strict (for good reason, chasing a bike on a crowded highway is way more dangerous than one dipshit on two wheels)
I avoid speeding any faster because I don’t want to lose my bike forever if I get identified (also it only goes up to 140 something lol)

I can ride but kinda have no business. Full body carpal tunnel, blind in one eye, brain damage. I’d love to on good days maybe. I’m sorta wealthy from frugality. This thing is a good financial decision. It will increase in value. I have a teenager who can get it when I die soon. A cool consolation. I have quite a few problems that money can’t fix and I’m not sure if I should buy another problem. It could fix some. I look like a bum and walk at night when I can’t sleep. I’m sure everyone in town thinks I live under a bridge. A Harley could help explain my personality. Crap. Idk. I think things are going well but the ball and chain bellyaches about the risk of my investments and a little operation I help run. But I can’t work no more so that’s how I do. Maybe it is my duty to pull the trigger on the thing. My garage is a mess too.

Maybe riding can loosen my bones up and I can put the bottles down. I don’t know if I deserve the chance. I always think the argument about safety gear is funny because there is nothing safe about a motorcycle. We’re all playing russ1an roulette. I would worry about my kid riding but I can’t stop him so, it would be better if he was better at it and that means getting miles in the saddle. I really miss the states, such a comfy country to ride in, gigantic but a few hours of riding and you’ll get a completely different biome. Not that Europe is too different in that regard but every time you do it almost always coincides with a border hop, a change in currency (sometimes) different traffic rules etc. and of course everything feels way more compact.
Riding in the states just has a different vibe to it

Pending how you enter the turn on the bike there's a couple of scenarios
1. Too fast no lean - you recover but forget to slow and adjust and off the side you go (unlikely as your car speed indicates you know back roads enough to not enter Bushido clan speed)
2. You enter tok fast lean and panic brake incorrectly - classic had to lay err down
3. You while entering too fast apply your back brake slowing you and also standing the bike up and then properly react with gas from the throttle to redirect in turn (all is ok, tho you might have skidded a bit and be a bit scared).

Bikes speed up and slow down faster than cars in general. Proper turns are about understanding physics as you must balance a bike. That instability also allows you do do much sharper angles in turns leading to better handling of the turns

>In the early 1980's, Suzuki was a trendsetter in bike technology in the 400cc class—where the racing competition was the fiercest due to rivals such as the Kawasaki Z400FX and the Yamaha XJ400. But the engines of these bikes had "only" 2 valves per cylinder. Suzuki released the first-ever 400cc street bike with 4 valves per cylinder—the GSX 400F—in April 1981, a full 6 months ahead of the 4-valve Honda CBX400F. The next step in the bike's evolution was 1983's GSX 400FW, with a liquid-cooled engine mounted in a square-tube frame. This came out 1 month ahead of Yamaha's XJ400Z, the second bike in the inline-4-cylinder 400cc class to get a liquid-cooled engine.

In the 1984 came the GSX-R, built with Suzuki's Multi-Rib Aluminium Box frame. This was only the second production bike to get an aluminium frame, after the RG250 Gamma. A year later, the GSX-R 750 would be the first in the series with a number in the name indicating displacement. The FW series engine on which the GSX's power unit was based received major modifications, such as small, 10mm plugs that made room for much larger intake and exhaust valves. These mods boost output to 59 hp (tied with the Yamaha FZ400R for first place in power). At only 335 lbs. dry, the GSX was far lighter than the competition, for an almost frightening power-to-weight ratio. In fact, the GSX triggered a veritable arms race among Japanese motorcycle manufacturers.

>Despite its reputation for ferocious power, the GSX has nice, flat torque properties and surprisingly faithful handling. These and other properties of the GSX had a substantial effect on subsequent 400cc models.

For the '86 model year, the GSX-R swapped out its double-cradle frame for a twin-spar one, and the engine was re-engineered into an air/oil-cooled unit (in which the cylinder heads are water cooled!). These and other improvements evolved the GSX-R into an even more competitive machine with a lighter, stiffer frame.

Insurance doesn't cover blown up engines, and it's a nearly new bike.
Everytime I see a blown up sport bike on social media, it's a 2009-2023 636. I'm seeing even more 2024+ that are blowing up. They changed something in the engine for 2024, don't know what it was.
>>
>>28054725
Tbh surprised they've updated the engine at all in 15 years. They only blow up all the time because 636's all seem to be ridden by stunt cunts.

I was the exact opposite, I thought you were supposed to lug it in 4th at low speeds. We'd been putting around a car park for half a day in second, and then for the road section the instructor said "I want to see you all get up to 40km/hr and 4th gear here". So I thought "Okay, that's the gear I should be in for that speed."
Then afterwards, he was yelling at me for being too slow because I was 10km/hr under the speed limit, but meanwhile I was shifting down to 3rd to get over speed bumps without stalling the CB125.

Went to go start my bike the other day, got power to the headlight, etc and some turn overs but no start. Eventually just started clicking. Took battery to AutoZone, battery holds charge but bottoms out under load. Get a new battery, toss it in, still getting lights, etc but no start. Sometimes when holding the starter, the lights on the cluster will flicker in and out, seems like the bike itself is flickering in and out sometimes. On one singular attempt (I haven’t been able to recreate) I lost tension in the clutch momentarily.

I’m pretty certain it’s an electrical issue, obviously, but I have no idea where to begin for a diagnosis. Any ideas?

I'm going to Thailand. I was thinking of buying some motorcycle parts for my 23 cb500x. Specifically a rear shock. People have said that something like the YSS made a big difference in handling and allowed the bike to feel more planted when cornering on bumpy roads. It's expensive though here and I wonder if I'd save some money if i buy it some place in Thailand.

I have a KLR650 that's burning quite a bit of oil. Something like 750ml every 1000 miles or so.
I'm an mediocre mechanic at best so my analysis might be wrong but I'm thinking the piston rings are shot. Assuming that's correct then I think this is probably a good time to install a big bore kit. Is installing a big bore kit as simple as taking the top end apart, sending the cylinder off to be machined, then just reassembling everything? Do I need to do anything with the valves or anything else?

Find a real forum to ask about your specific bike. Buy a multimeter and learn how to use it. You are going to be checking voltages on battery, between starter, regulator, and stator. You are going to check if every ground is solid. You are going to suffer. Also check your fuses.

PO was running the bike with a completely disintegrated air filter and no cover. I'm thinking shits completely fucked and the cylinder probably need to be machined.
I found a kit, just need to find a machine shop in my area
https://eaglemike.com/shop/ols/products/692-forged-piston-kit

btw, just pulled this spark plug, how bad does this look? I looked down into the cylinder and its just a fucking mess of carbon.

also, if I plan on rebuilding it, is there any harm to keep driving on it?

You going to get a qs for your fz6? Annitori makes a good one and they're pretty affordable. Like $280. Still not cheap but they aren't crazy expensive.

I'm jelly of your twisty California roads, we don't have a lot of Twisties here. There is one really nice road that's almost like a miniature track, they repaved it recently and it's amazing. It's an hour away from me though and it's at least a half day ordeal getting there, riding, and coming home.

Chinesium replica cans are actually pretty alright honestly. Especially for the money. I've been running one on my zx6r for about a year now, no issues. If it's supposed to be a carbon fiber can, it comes as metal with a fake carbon sticker, kek. It's held up so far though.

It's not even being Chinese that bothers me it's the literal bootleg part. I mean my track bike came with a Chinese made GP can on it and it's fine except for the fact it fits too tight so it is an entire project just to get the motherfucker off.

Oh also most of them are either mini-GP cans and/or have welded on hangers so they're fucking useless, because the whole point is to put a full size can on this bike to pass sound limits.

>You going to get a qs for your fz6?
Would be like getting sprinting shoes for jogging I reckon. It’s a fun sound but I hardly ever run through the gears and I’ve still gotta master truly smooth shifting so I don’t mind doing it the old fashioned way.
> Like $280. Still not cheap but they aren't crazy expensive
That is way crazy expensive ;~;
> I'm jelly of your twisty California roads, we don't have a lot of Twisties here
Ive only come to appreciate it after getting a bike but I really love the average curve of the roads out. While any twisty highway is usually 30 minutes out there’s plenty of roads around town that feel like twisties if you just rush em lol. Unfortunately actually going out to a twisty highway usually requires having the day totally free which I never really do since I working closing shifts every other day.
> There is one really nice road that's almost like a miniature track, they repaved it recently and it's amazing
feelsamazingman
Looks fun but also maybe it’s just camera perspective but it looks like you could full throttle like most of these corners
Either way looks like a nice cozy place to try and do your rounds learning the road and gradually increasing the speed
Hope to see more of this spot from you, technical riding is good riding!

qwhat the fuck they made a ZZR 250?!?!
isnt that just a Ninja 250?!
>>
>>28056300
Yes, the GPX250 is the Ninja 250 of that era, and the ZZR250 is a GPX everything except with better transmission, suspension and different bodywork. I had the 05' GPX250 and it got nicked, and since I knew how to work on it with my eyes closed, opted for something basically the same. Just couldn't find a 650 version anywhere so I settled. It's a nice, planted ride with the better suspension being a godsend. The GPX has a more classic look to it though.

>>
Hi brothers, last week I got my big-boy loicense and I'm looking into getting my first real baiku (I have MT-125 now). I'm looking at V-Strom 650 with ABS from 2007 (I could get it for like $300 after I trade in my MT-125). Good choice? I want to travel across Europe next season, so I want something with fairings, comfy for longer trips but also to be able to commute to work/gym (like 15km).

last 2 weeks were great, wörst part is its corn harvesting season and my favorit roads are dirty and muddy as fuck. it was like 15°C/60°F and it looks like we are getting another 2 weeks of it, so im quite lucky so far. how are you? any signs of winter so far in the big white north?
>>
>>28056352
Big power jump but I think you can handle it. Vstrom is a good choice but I can't remember which years had some problem with them, not a major problem but definitely something you don't want while touring.
Also does the one you're looking at have spoke or cast wheels?
>>
>>28056178
from the thumbnail I thought that the airplane was just text that said "nigger."
>>
>>28056398
Cast wheels unfortunately, but for the first few years I'll stick mostly to paved roads, ocasionally some light dirt roads near me to get comfortable first.
I got my license on Gladius, it's the same engine iirc, but yeah, I'll take it easy.
>>

I noticed I got a near-flat tire (pressure very low) while riding. Then I took it to the gas station and pumped it up, it's all good now. I presume the janky sealant (pic related) I put in while installing the tires 2000km ago did its job.

It's been 24 hours and there has been no pressure loss. I can't see any holes or tears anywhere. Is there anything else I need to do to the tire or am I all good now?

Get the EFI tuned so it stops doing on/off and there really isn't enough difference to quantifiably feel if you were sat on a bike "blind" such that you couldn't identify the make/model.
