I just bought a CTR after years of posting "CTR gap insurance" posts and figured I would share what I think since it's still a "rare" car, though bring on the "just a Civic" posts - I agree. First of all, coming from a 2010 Si, I am mostly disappointed - it's far, far less raw. I know people talk about new cars having no feeling, but I expected more here since it's still "basic" and "light" relative to many other things. Instead, I get some lame noise from the engine that sounds way worse and shifts that feel like nothing at all, to the point where I start to understand getting an automatic. I also don't even know if I am doing anything with the revs - on the Si I have to match precisely, here the clutch just clicks into place. Also, the uptake point is super, super high. The best I can describe it is a shitty-ass trigger with a ton of creep before break. Speaking of "break", the brakes are the only thing that feels absolutely amazing.Vibration and noise levels are literally the same - it shakes all over the place in comfort. The sound system is ok. The acceleration is nothing to write home about. Maybe it's ok, but it feels like a whole lot of nothing.I definitely don't get the sense that I am in a car that beat an M2 on the right. I drove a friend's Supra, and it really is a completely different class of car. It's also actually LESS gaudy.Maybe I just aged out - the whole point was that I didn't want a "visible" car, and the Civic screams boy racer.I never had infotainment in a car before and it's completely pointless to me. Somehow it detects lane departure and shakes the wheel like a playstation controller and it's dumb. Not sure how it does that though, backup camera? Oh, and rear visibility sucks for a Civic.
>>28066838I have zero desire to drive the car or work on it. I am coping with "well, I just needed a reliable car, and a SI would be worse." I guess my conclusion, as usual, is that a car won't make you happy and at current prices any stretch purchase will disappoint the shit out of you. Finally, 15 years of "progress" make literally zero difference. Oh, and look at threads like >>28066240 - be honest with yourself when getting a car, are you really going to track it? All a fast car does is make you shift ridiculously early. Oh, and speaking of which, I don't feel the turbo at all.I basically want to drive my Si over this thing ;_;, thanks for coming to my Ted talk. I guess I will put the GR86 at the lower end and Supra at the high end on the pedestal instead.
for me, driving is about emotions, not about numbers. I’d argue that’s also why many people love the chally so much. they love the looks and the V8, the road presence it has and how comfy it is. sounds like the FL5 just isn’t for you. I’m sure some people love it to death despite it being just a civic at the end of the day
You are complaining about a lack of rawness and feel but you like the Supra more?I have a 9th gen Civic Si and a brand new WRX TR and while the Civic has nice hydraulic steering and loud, n/a induction sound, the WRX is better in basically every other way. It has more power, more grip, rides better, better quality interior, vastly better seats, even the shifter feels more solid and mechanical although sometimes too notchy going from 1st to 2nd.If you don't really enjoy the CTR my guess is you just haven't driven it hard enough yet lol. You do live somewhere with real roads and not just endless grids and highways, right?
FL5 owner here for nearly a year.OP talks shit. The only thing he is correct about is the car is stiff with soft dampers and even more hardcore in sport+ and brutal in +R.Overall FL5 is rock solid in build quality and the interior / dashboard quality isn't shit either for a gook car. Engine is nice too, boost coming in hard at like 2,7k rpm and gearbox feels much much nicer than my previous Fiesta 1.6 turbo shitbox. I heard the FL5 is still over heating on track days and that two fast full laps at the Nurburgring with all the driving aids on means a new set of rear brake pads!
>50k civic yapping, tl;drI'm guessing that's a bible verse of buyers remorse premium copium
>>28066840It sounds like you want something with a cooler drivetrain anon
>>28066838bread on hoodnot reading all that
>>28066838you didn't even post a picture, much less a timestamp...
sounds like some poorfag trying to gatekeep the CTR by making shit up because if he can’t have one, no one can.
>>28066838why do the Type R and Focus RS feel slow?300+ HP cars shouldn't feel that slow.is it one of those Pull all timing at any moment to save the engine type of tunes??
>>28068379It's because their limits are too high to be enjoyed on the street The cars are too fast and laptime focused. They became too serious.
>>28066838All those words and you post a stock photo, post bread on hood.
>I hate this car it's so disappointing>which is why I bought one, after driving ittotally real post
>>28068450No often cars like that can't be test driven...so it actually makes sense OP didn't test drive it if he bought it brand new.
>>28068401nah, bro.accelerating in a straightline isn't pushing any limits.my acceleration at the track or on a free way are the same.turning is another matter however.those 2 cars just feel slow.
>paying for out of the box from the factory Honda performance when you can get fully built race ready K20/K24 complete motors from guys who want to build them to 300-600 hp for like $10k-$15k all day long
>>28068535It's also because these new cars have perfectly flat torque curves. They don't feel fast because direct injection and modern turbos removed a lot of the drama. They spool up stupid quick and don't feel dramatic cuz they have a ton of grip. Modern traction control and tire tech made it hard to break traction unless you dump the clutch Again, it's literally that the cars are too serious and won't feel fun unless you're absolutely driving like a fucking moron on a public road or you're at a track
>>28066838Bread on hood + timestamp or gtfo
>>28068544the torque curve on my LS1 powered track car is nice and flat as well I don't think that's the reason.
>>28068586LS1s also make a ton of torque and likely have a easier time breaking the wheels loose. Torque isn't good if you want to maximize traction.Turbo 4cyls usually have shit engine notes too.Tbh the Focus RS is the more playful of the 2 imo but AWD cars aren't as fun as RWD unless they excel in some way (either really good suspension/steering or being light with lots of power and stupid short gearing)
>>28068590I have zero wheel spin in a straight line because of Hoosier track slicks.those type R and RS just feel slow you look down and the speedo doesn't show anything impressive.
It's a modern car i.e. shit.
>>28068566>asking someone to prove they bought a spicy Civic
>>28066838I own an M2 and have driven the type R because I was looking at both when deciding on a "new" used car.The Type R is the same price and you're getting better seats, a more flashy interior (that is shitter mind you) compared to a more austere BMW interior with more subtle blue accents. The shift feel is great compared to the beemer along with better clutch feel, but thankfully these can be remedied in the aftermarket with a clutch stop and stiffer trans mounts. You have FWD in the type R which puts power down well, but still not as fun as RWD. The N55 beats the K20 in sound and has a shit ton of low end torque, especially when tuned. They both have mediocre ride quality, but the M2 feels more responsive.Overall impressions of the type R had me feeling like a K24 Si with Type R seats swapped in would be the best buy. Otherwise the M2 is the superior car in mid $30ks range used. Its also the more mature looking car compared to the factory fake carbon and crazy flares.
The F87 M2C is arguably the best BMW and one of the best cars ever. The FL5 CTR is just a fancy civic that rusts like hell.
>>28068639Bro gave a review for a car he probably has never drove. Terry Davis is more grounded than OP.
>>28068660I'm inclined to agree with you because the latest GR Corolla fire incident was found out to be a fake outrage and the fag backpedaled and removed his Facebook posts. Why are there so many mentally ill car guys?
Oppie is absolutely correct about everything. The Si does 80% of what the CTR does unless you actually track it, which you won't, because your CTR just became a $100,000 car over a couple of years with all the track days, pads, tires, extra insurance, and random bullshit.t. also coming from an Si. The 15 year old Si literally has a better feeling shifter and a better clutch uptake point. I finally understand why real rich fags get Miatas / GR86s / Si / base GTs / etc - you really aren't missing out on much by doing that.
>iPad dashdropped
>>28068639>lying about owning a spicy Civiclel
The last real civic was an ep3. Everything since then is a fucking joke. Especially the new model. Glorified chinkshit shopping trolley for pakis and retards. Honda died in 09 lad
>>28068379A Type-R beats a Focus RS at everything outside of launching though.
>>28068640FL5 owner here.Yeah the M2 is a beast i was looking at them. I really wanted the FL5 CTR so got one. I lucked out too because it doesn't depreciate much and is technically a limited model. The new one has a top end turbo that comes on boost at 2,5k rpm too and responds almost instantly.
