I have had a couple of Chinese scooters so I can kind of attest to chinese engines.They are okay. You need to dig in and do things like check valve clearances and such, and change oil religiously. But a Chinese gy6 can last at least 10k+ miles if you take care of it. But I think that has to do with them not having a traditional oil filter, just fine mesh screen.As for, parts quality, I would assume they get the same bearings and other materials from the same factory as your big brand names.In the end, it is a crapshoot but your odds are pretty good.

What you need to watch out for is where they cut corners to bring it to market for that price. You'll probably have to upgrade a lot of wear items quickly, or as soon as you buy the bike. Filters, tires, chain, front sprocket, etc. Do your research and find out where owners are having failures in the first 2k miles, and go from there.
