Anyone else take their bikes down roads they aren't "supposed" to go? Went shooting today, didn't want to take the car or truck. A rough caliche road with heavy washboarding, sections of large stones, and sand. Overall did better then I thought but basically never left first gear.
>>>28212823>>>28213052I was being a bit glib, its actually attached to the frame with ratcheting hose clamps rather than welded directly onto the bike so I can still access the drain plugs, definitely looks like the shed build it is but should work good enough. I’ll grab some pics on the weekend when I finish it up.

>>28214166assault kawasaki
>>28214152Yeah mate we have a pretty recognisable vista haha. These pics are outback NSW the far side of Nyngan, I’m more coastal but tour all over. Hot zook, is that the daily or one of the collection?
>>28214174One of two at the moment. I daily the Suzuki in winter but I'm not game to boil it in traffic during summer here in Brisbane. DESU neither really come into their own as commuters haha.
I want to ride my bike tomorrow but there is still some dry salt dust caked on the roads. It's gonna be 37 and with my heated gear it will feel like a spring day. Will the salt cause damage?
>>28214185I've seen the slingshot before but I don't think I've seen the aprilia before?
>>28214187Yeah I don't post it as much in here. Honestly its getting less uptime these days. Can only ride one at a time after all, but I can't really bring myself to sell it.The sound is really what makes it, and its good to have a modern bike for when the zook shits it, even if its Italian.
>>28214185I feel you I’m not far south of Brisbane and keep buying air cooled bikes because I’m retarded. I cooked my old Ural a couple times getting caught in traffic when its fucking 45 before the heat comes back off the bitumen. Usually just ride faster to keep cool but fuck if Brisbane doesnt have the worst drivers in the country. I’d be sketchy trying to maintain breezing speeds in that shit too, no idea how you fuckers manage to gridlock a five lane highway every day but its an art form. Great looking shed both top options for blasting to the beach for a perve.
>>28214186Seppo problems, this is an ocker thread now.
>>28214195I know man its tough, I'm the same way, aircooled bikes just have so much sovl. Nice hog by the way. Dad sold his XR1200X right from underneath me recently and I'll never forgive him for it.
>>28213986Thailand has two standards for helmets, one for motorcycles that is similar to DOT as far as protection, and one for 50cc scooters only that is the same but half the impact energy (one drop instead of two) and is mostly similar to CPSC Bicycle standards. Guess which standard ALL Thai helmets are made to....So bring your own helmet or drive slow.
>>28214202Sorry to hear mate my condolences, any dad who sells a bike or car without offering it to the son is going into a home. Doesn’t matter what shitbox it is or in what condition thats just not cricket
>>28214203Why not instead buy a cheap yet decent rated helmet if possible? LS2 FF352 for example is a cheap helmet with a 4/5 rating by sharp, and for renting a shitty scooter over there, it will be more than plenty since those dont go that fast.

Got my shit squared away for an actual break this weekend, and now it's going to be in the 10-20s F. Any of you guys manage ridng highway speeds in that cold wind, and if so, how many layers did it take? Also, regarding winter gloves, aomeone at work mentioned snowmobile guantlets, but is there a more nimble option? I see gloves with 70/100/200g thinsulate ratings, but I have no idea how much freezing wind those will hold up to or if they kill any dexterity.
>>28214094I have genuinely thought about taking my 2022 Tracer up the Dempster Hwy to Tuktoyaktuk. Not saying the Tracer isn't made for it, but its defiantly not optimal. I live on the Gulf Coast so 2/3 of the trip would be pavement anyway. Every type bike has been up there, including FJ09's. The whole highway is graded for Semi-trucks but gravel, construction, and mud are a concern. There are 17inch dirt tires I would need bring/ship ahead to get changed to near the start of the highway. I've thought the whole thing out and would camp the whole way there and back. I will need to DIY fab a gravel guard for the bottom to get what I want for the trip. This is probably something I would attempt in 2026 at the earliest.I have also thought about buying a different bike, like a used T7 or AT. But I think it would be cool to do it on a newer Tracer and document the whole thing.
>>28214334Would these compact bicycles be at all capable of traveling between cities? Not often or for touring but say I wanted to take a trip out of town would it be viable to do on say a grom, z125 or other such bike
>>28214383I reckon it would be pretty miserable and pretty scary at times. You want on demand torque on the highway so you can teleport away from cagies trying to merge into you.
>>28214323Its actually a 1921 Lithgow SMLE some codger chopped in the 70s or 80s. Nearly every farm shed in the country would have one around somewhere they were our service rifle for yonks, good enough for killing krauts back then and its sure as hell good enough for pigs and dogs amd deer now. >>28214326I’m sure youre right, last time I tried that in a car though the fucking road was flooded and washed out and the lazy cunts didn’t bother to put up a sign on the first 5km of the single lane road so there was no way to tell until it was too late. Not even our politco class boil my blood like driving in fucking Brisbane does haha
>>28214376Wear a bally or a bandana the neck cold is worse than finger cold. Singlet, shirt and jacket gets me by, legs matter less but thermals not a bad idea. Heated gloves pay for themselves on the first ride and theyre pretty cheap now, but you’ll have to tell your dad you’re gay so maybe watch out for that hidden cost of the heated gear transaction.
why dont they make harleys like these but with modern technology anymore?

>>28214599honestly much cooler>pity about the ADV bike engine
>>28214185>>28214195Melbourne here, so not quite as hot as Brisbane but we still do get a few +40C days. My advice is that above 34C you want to minimise airflow, because that's the point at which you no longer get convective cooling. So don't wear a mesh jacket, and having a big windscreen helps a lot. I'm quite comfortable during my 1hr commute on 40C days because I dunk my shirt in the sink before I leave. It stays damp and keeps me cool for the whole ride home.
>>28214599No amount of 90s sticker kits will stop this from being a shadow of the bike it replaced. It doesn't even have a proper alloy beam frame ffs.
>>28214602I'm not worried about myself so much as the bike. Its an oil (not water) cooled, highly strung engine and the bike is fully faired so sitting in traffic in 40C just kills it. It needs cold air running through those intakes at high speed to keep it cool.
>>28214604Honestly, I wish they called it "RZ 700R".Also imagine having ATV with the CP2 engine called BANSHEENo idea what were they thinking
>>28214609Its such a cynical age we live in now. They're leveraging their sporting heritage to pump out tarted up commuters. I get that the sport bike market isn't what it once was and that they have to cut costs but that doesn't make it any less depressing. People don't even seem to realise just what it is what it is that we've lost either. Everyone's happy to settle for this shit. I get that this is me having an 'old man yells at cloud' moment but I don't even care.
>>28214605Thumpers, aircooled V-twins, and boxers are the best for dealing with heat and low speeds.
>>28214619According to my mechanic bros, he sais that this year and last has been some of the worst in salesHis friend worked amateur hour stealership and said it almost bankrupted him taking on inventoryAlso thr used market is saturwted with unsold shit, heres hopin the viffer gets solded this seqsonIm also at a crossroads with what to do financially; trugg pill - and with that gas job or diesel, and then theres the buy property somewhere niceI got the insider scoop on a potentisl real estate dipp close to grizzly bear country, mite b cool if it happens in a year or teo
>>28214626>what to do financially>buy property somewhere niceI've been putting off buying a new bike/gear for years because I can't afford to buy a homefuck this world man
>>28214619>>28214626Well, Yamaha knows better. They actually had to invest in the new engines; it wasn't easy. The other manufacturers are still using 25-year-old inline 4s and reassembling them in Thailand.I guess they saw how supersport sales went down, how successful and beloved the SV650 was for more than a decade, and how the Triumph Daytona outperformed classic supersports with its triple engine. They saw the way — the CP2 and CP3 engines. Yamaha gives people what they really want. The R6 is a track bike, and you can still buy it for the track, though.I’ll tell you what: back in 1989, Nissan released not just one or two, but at least three sportscars at once (S13, Z32, R32, plus the GTI-R a year later, etc.). Some of the greatest sportscars of all time — each very different and unique, sportscars for everybody. And guess what? Nissan went fucking bankrupt shortly after. So, you can make some of the coolest stuff on Earth, but if people don't buy it, it doesn’t matter. You have to make the cool stuff that people actually buy.
>>28214636Feel like pure shit just want Japan bubble economy engineering back.
>>28214638>oval pistons (who cares if its dumb)>5 valves per cylinder (again who cares if its not better) >250cc 20,0000 RPM redline i4 >Gear driven cams >Straight up race bikes with lights for the general public. >manufacturers constantly competing with each other to put out cutting edge stuff that pushed the game forward every couple yearsthems were the days anon. Thems were the days anon.
>>28214602A work mate told me to do that yesterday and it made riding home in 40C soo much more bearable, they also let me use the deep freezer to cool it down further.
I want winter to be over...>>28214636>1980s and 90s Japan techYup, consumer electronics (Hi-Fi sets, Trinitron CRTs, quality of semiconductors made in Japan was also better that current chink shit) and automotive products were superior compared to what is being made now, they had the budged for R&D and money to do things properly. I'm seriously considering buying some of the old stuff like a good Hi-Fi set, I have an old Honda car from 80s that I'm restoring because right now there's very little being made that's not gonna disintegrate few years after buying. I wanted to buy a car this year and desu there's nothing worthwhile to buy, honestly. New BMWs are unrelaiable pos, same with other german cars, american cars are made poorly, italian aren't even made no more for the most part. French have their 1.2 puretech with wet timing belt which clogs the oil passages and nukes the engine. It all went to shit
>>28214018Holy shit fzr mentioned
>>28214590absolute menace
>>28214365>HarleyBased
>>28214650Yeah the trick is to maximise your evaporative cooling, because that's all you get at those temperatures. So having just enough airflow to evaporate the water and no more, because the wind is heating you up rather than cooling you down at those temperatures.

Random question, I'm buying a sports bike but my gf is fat and short, is climbing on top of the passenger seat gonna be any more of an issue than it is on a modern classic model?
>>28214729You want short, that's in your favour. Fat is a problem, you'll have to crank up the preload to the max (or get a stiffer spring in if its non-adjustable) or she's gonna bottom the tail unit out on the back tyre everytime you hit a bump. If she's a spastic she could endanger your lives too by throwing the bike off balance. Sport bikes are ill suited for lugging hoes around anon especially hamwhales. By 'modern classic' I assume you're talking about the new UJM type bikes like z900s. Yes they'll be better for riding two up.

Hello everyone, got my motorcycle license yesterday and now i'm faced with buying my own gear. Any helmets you guys could recommend? i'm currently looking at Acerbis Serel 22-06 - it looks good and is modular for when i'm out in the open field and can get rid of a bit of protection. I'll be driving a 200cc motorcycle mainly on dirt roads exploring the countryside and fishing with occasional highway riding as well at about 80 kph (45 mph). Main things im looking for is good visibility, ventilation and comfort. Comfort is gonna be hard to nail because i'm 6'7" and have a pretty big noggin, i also live in the middle of nowhere so choice of helmets could be limited but im still open to any suggestions
>>28214677Bro, what tire you running in the back? Also, you running a 520 chain?Mine has a 150/70 balloon in the back and I've seen another with a 160/60 Metzeler.
>>28214619So MODIFY whatever you dislike the least. Why do people feel so dependent on stock machines? Why does it even matter what's for sale today when there are decades of machines to choose from then mod to suit your desires?
>>28214775congratsin my country (france), you have to have the gear BEFORE you pass the motorcycle test (since you're gonna be riding a motorcycle to pass the exam)
>>28214775Ive never had a modular helmet but the amount of shit ive had hit me in the face with the visor up on a normal helmet makes me never want an open face helmet tbqh

>>28214777Nice digits, nice bikuIf you like it then you should put a fairing on it
>>28214322>Replacing a car with a grom Consider looking into their capabilities and insurance. As a new rider if you plan on commuting I strongly suggest vtwins or ptwins unless you have a low speed short commute. 6k you can find new or used bikes capable for hauling groceries and getting you to work that are a lot more capable than a grom. 300cc-500cc bikes are affordable and have good mpg still and can keep with traffic a lot better. How bad are Biltwell helmets? I might be getting a bit ahead of myself, but I'm starting to try get some gear so that I have something once I complete the motorcycle course during spring. I pretty much have all the basic gear required to take the course, but once I get on the road I would like something a bit safer (helmet is old hand me down with questionable history). On one hand, the reviews that I have seen look promising and the new ones are ECE22.06 certified, but on the other hand they do seem to be a bit "form over function" for a lack of a better term and the FAQ recommends staying away from them (on the other hand, the FAQ is a few years old now)
