Learning to "less than a feet" doesn't take much desu it's just a bit scary when starting but you only really need to get used to it with a bit of town riding so you start and stop at slow speed and with low traffic, as i said i rarely scooted over with my butt to flat foot at stops i was much more comfortable just putting down on one tip-toe after the second ride with the full height bike.
As long as you are coming to a full stop nice and smooth and already prepared with a feet down it really is not a big deal even if it's just on one tip toe like me! emergency stops might be a bit tricky but to be fair i had to only do it twice (both time kinda hard, sliding rear tire as it was starting to lift) i still didn't have problems and didn't fall.

Some nice thing to make into habits is actually LEFT foot down and first gear ready (right if you ride on the left and in that case you don't worry about gear) since most roads are slightly curved to drain water and you already gain something there, and becoming always wary of the angles of the roads (like valleys and bumps in the asphalt from uneven surface more than potholes and cracks) so you don't stop in bad spots where you touch on the left, don't on the right unless scooting A LOT and are in the wrong gear (happend once not fun it becomes a really stressfull balance act to not drop the bike on yourself)
Bike weight and proper riding boots help a lot actually, i got some average dainese boots and compared to my riding sneakers they felt even more secure when doing that stuff and when i was getting my license even if the sv650 was much lower seatwise it was so much heavier, i was also very unexperienced o i guess now it would probably be fine
>>
>>28600207
There’s one hill near where I live which is the only place I’ve ever dropped my bike coming to a stop and I did it more than once
It’s a hill coming to another hill at a 90degree angle, so the road is probably a yard and a half higher on one side than the other across, while being at an very significant slope longitudinally as well

You can’t tell well in this picture how steep the longitudinal slope is, but it’s very steep. You can see how extreme the cross slope is at the intersection, where twice I went to put my foot down on the left out of habit and dropped my bike as a result both times.

He played stupid games, won a stupid prize, and to the shock of absolutely no one. Got his ass clipped.
Why are people even pretending like gixxerbrah didn't have it coming?
What magical thinking do you have to participate in to think attention seeking stunting doesn't get you flattened. For the love of God man that dipshit hardly wore any gear (probably wouldn't even dawn a helmet if he was able to keep his identity anonymous without it)

He reaped what he sowed, don't care if I sound cold. He isn't a rider to look up to and you're stupid if you accept the type of shit he was promoting (creating squid content does promote squidding, no contest)

Memphis Shades are basically the aftermarket standard. That said, there are a couple very good reviews of them on Road Kings on youtube you can look at. I did a Chinese ebay special on my Heritage, and that was OK. Needed some extra washers for spacing, but other than that was fine. I tried to sit on my dad's KLR and It's super heavy and the Seat Is much wider it immediately registered as "too much".
My Beta was basically a rebuilt DR350, why not that instead of the Yamaha? It was enough for everything i tried doing (even a two day cross-europe trip) and i'm sure you can find One for cheap.
I assume getting a hold of a proper Beta Alp would be hard outside of Italy tho so that small dual sport Is unfortunately out of the question for you
>>
I can't believe it but I might buy a chink motorcycle. I want a dualsport. In my country (France), suzuki DRs and honda XRs were discontinued in the early 00s (on the used market they sell for close to their MSRP no matter their condition). WR250Rs and KLX250S are unobtainium, CRF 300 L is above my budget. That only leaves chink stuff like the Voge 300 Rally.

Most manufacturers recommend replacing every 5 years, but I think it's more to do with use than time. They definitely get pretty shitty after 6 to 7 years of daily use so you'd want to replace it even if the safety hasn't decreased

I'm losing my love for riding my bike

between shitty weather, shitty cagers, and the risk of life altering issues, idk if it's worth it anymore

I still want to ride, but maybe track or offroading only. has anyone sold their road bikes and instead transitioned to just non-road riding?

I think what goes to show is in the legalese on the inside of the helmet it says when not to wear it
If in a crash, if exposed to chemicals/paint and there iscracking, if the helmet cannot be secured, does not fit snugly, etc
But at least on all of mine, no note for “replace after five years”
If they actually thought the helmet would go bad after five years I think they would put this on there for sure, lest they be sued for not notifying you on the safety product of the expiration date

Man that bike is super clean. I'm so jealous. Please take care of it and keep it that way.
What's the story on how you found it? Some old boomer just kept it really clean and finally sold it or what?
Always loved the zx12. I opted for the zx14, because it's more touring to my knowledge and I wanted something brand new. How does the two compare? (if you've ever ridden a 14)

On the note of parasocial maxxing, I would probably donate to crash test goat if he crashed, but he actually knows who I am and comments on my videos occasionally.

>Story of the bike
I shit you not I bought it from the original owner who looked like Peter Griffin. Dude was a 6'3 400lb UNIT. A tale as old as time, a rich man with too many toys and not enough HP to play with it all. Somehow, SOMEHOW. A Fatman rode it. Granted not much, but it had a bootleg Throttle lock as a form of cruise control (now removed) I suspect it was in a shed or garage with a open window, because small amounts of erosion could be found on the chain and 3 fasteners. I can't say I've ridden a zx14 unfortunately, but I can infer a lot because I've ridden a handful of CBRs and GSXRs. The ZX9 behaves like a late baba fireblade, not quite as ballistic as a 954 but more comfier than a 929 or 750 gsxr. It is a very refined middleweight, this one has a factory pro carb kit which resolves one glaring issue (replaceable needles) and enhances the entire powerband. Down low to up high is just smooth. Borderline VFR or blackbird smooth in power delivery. Weight and handling of a 600, but power as a (then) liter bike. A thoroughbred sport bike.

Intitally Throttle response was a little sticky, but after continued test putts to diagnose anything and make sure all is healthy it dramatically smoothened out. Another thing I noticed is despite a factory bubble screen the zx9 is extremely aerodynamic, even with the suspension setup for a man twice my weight and ancient tires from 2005. It remained planted and unfazed by the wind at modest speeds (I have yet to truly push it due to suspension, which I've adjusted but waiting on brake pads that aren't shot)

This bike has a high can exhaust on it, but the sound the 900cc I4 makes is distinct and a different pitch than the other I4s I've ridden. The cam chain and carb actuation gives it a subtle ducati rumble when at idle, nothing wrong with the bike it's just a quirk.
If your feet are long, I'd advice not going to a high can. The exhaust pipe will be confused by your heel as a peg ask me how I know.
The range is also impressive, so far I haven't gotten gas for it and the trip odometer reads at 153.2 miles. There's a reserve tank, and no fuel light or gauge. Only your instinct (or cheat sheet trip odometer) they get like 160-170 mile range in total. The OEM seat is crazy tall, there's a stupid amount of foam. Makes the damn thing feel like a dirt bike with a bulge. If your inseam is shorter than average then best invest in an aftermarket seat or shave the oem one down because even as a tall guy it's just a weird seat to sit on.

dude the bike is cool not hating it's like a baby 12R but I have ridden one and the older gen and it is not like a 600. Look at the wet weight...it's like 30 pounds heavier than my literbike The wet weight of a 05-06 636 is like what the dry weight of the 9r is. Look at the wheelbase and rider triangle. cmon man

If you can just not fill the tank every other bike on the planet can do the same thing. And the tank isnt massive its capacity is like 4.7gallons. But dry weights are never a good indicator because it is/has been inconsistent from vendor to vendor and it doesn't just mean with or without fuel. Manufacturers claim dry weight without engine oil, fork oil, coolant, even the battery...etc dry weight is fugazi fairy dust

Curb weight or wet weights are used as a more direct comparison point. Again, I like the 9r its a cool bike but cmon guy. my bike is a zx-10r.

It's never a bad idea to take it easy on unfamiliar roads. Too many riders die in the mountains. Personally I don't ride too fast on 9 or skyline. Too many cyclists and tourists.

How did you like lane spitting in the bay compared to elsewhere? I personally prefer it over LA but I think the value is way better in SoCal.

This has been on loop in my head since dumping at Palomar, I want to ride for a long time even if it means being a bit overly cautious, still feels like sour grapes to get through a corner knowing you could have flown through it tho
> How did you like lane spitting in the bay compared to elsewhere?
I was mostly riding in a group so we rarely split since splitting as a group tends to be difficult and dangerous but the few times we did split kinda sucked, seemed touristy like people weren’t paying attention
I’m curious why you’re interested in opinions on lane splitting? Just seems a rather mundane part of riding to me lol

Hi,

I'm currently buying my (first) protective gear and need some advice. Most of the time, I'll be riding to work and go on tours once or twice a year.
For me, I'm male, 170cm (~5,6"), muscular build, 79kg. Most of the time a size M fits me well.

So far I've got the helmet and I'm looking for the following items for my day-to-day drivng next:
- Gloves (not extending above the wrist)
- City boots/sneakers (ankle high, reinforced toebox, ideally w/ zipper on the side)
- Back protector (standalone w/ straps, so I can wear it under different pieces of clothing)
- Jacket

I'd like to buy used where I can (helmet is new though), but especially with the back protector I'm not sure whether I shouldn't spend the money on a new one or not.
For back protectors I've tried the Dainese Wave Air and liked the ventilation and how light it felt, but due to my height I'm right on the border between two sizes and I've read wearing the wrong size back protector can be really dangerous. Haven't tried any alpinestars etc. yet.

Any input is welcome.

Any KTM 1290r Superduke owners? Im poor and can only but second hand. Theres a 2016 1290r for sale and Im pretty keen on it but when I research them, people say the later models "fix" the front end...which makes it sound like the front end on the older models are bad?
>>
>>28601393
A quick Google says pre-2017 Super Dukes had softer fork springs and higher, further back, narrower handlebars. Marginally less performance focused. Doesn't sound like a total deathtrap.
>>
>>28601398
Well the reviews Ive been reading says the front wheel feels very light in corners etc...I suppose the soft suspension would do that?
>>
>>28601239
You are worth it and you are pretty cool. New brake pads are cool. In my Mike they have to bed it or for me to get used to before it felt good to me.
>>
>>28601365
For boots, I suggest tcx street ace. I use it and it's awesome. The rest, idk, try rstaichi for gloves, preferably leather and one that comes with palm sliders. For the jacket, get the summer one, most jackets should come with sleeve for back protector. I use Knox on mine. D3O is good too.

These are among the best enduro dual sports, and what every enduro should strive to accomplish. True touring capabilities, insanely reliable, long service intervals, and more than acceptable offroad handling. I know of people that trade down husky 701s for 300ls because they're easier to manage and they don't ride as much anymore, but still want something that will handle the seemingly infinite offroad trails out here.

It's Honda's theory equivalent to the tenere 700, fuck the transalp. Especially the rally version. Having personally ridden them, I think they handle only slightly worse than true trail bikes offroad, mostly due to the tall gears and tires.
>>
>>28601556
>>28601583
I should also mention that the people putting 50-60k miles on these bikes are the same ones doing 1000 mile trips in 24 hours pinning the throttle all the way to the back and redlining it the whole way. Just do basic maintenance and you'll be fine, especially if you ride it like a normal dual sport and not like a cross country tourer.

I was looking to buy a new bike and the cfmoto ibex450 seems to be getting glowing reviews. 450 seems perfect for what I want; mostly avoid highway, use it on farmy, windy, quiet roads, explore small American towns and some slight off road.

Anyone ride one? The RE Himalayan 450 looks cool too and I really dig the style of it but i see too many reliability issues online; haven’t found much comparably with the Cfmoto. I don’t give a shit about the ibex being Chinese; they make some excellent shit nowadays but I’m still pretty against buying an Indian bike. Anyone fuck around on these?

There’s really no reason not to take the MSF
If you can’t afford it, then motorcycle ownership is too expensive for you
Ride a 50cc scooter if that’s the case
>>
>>28601757
well it's not called that here, every course is essentially it's own thing and the only similar thing across them is they let you do the motorcycle skills test on their grounds instead of the ICBC facility, but I suppose the money isn't that much (though I planned to get a $1800 CBR 125 and like $600 for gear so it is like 60% the cost of the entire bike)

Atgatt is so prohibitively expensive. I wish those people would admit that. But I think those people see bikes as more of a luxury hobby thrill seeking thing.
Why did they make bikes so hard to get into but getting a car license is easy and cheap and quick as long as you have a pulse? I hate how bikes are treated here.

I am often in these threads advocating for just a helmet below 30mph or so, and you are thinking about it wrong
Cheap bike + all the gear + msf is still way cheaper than even a PoS car is going for these days
Honda XR150L brand new you can get for 3k out the door
Helmet 300 jacket 300 gloves and boots 300 we’re talking 1000 in gear, that 4k
Add the msf and anything else maybe you’re at 1000
What does 5k get you for a car these days? Absolute unreliable piece of garbage.

But id yiu want to do road id probably get like a trailcub125 and stick to the city roads, bc insane drivers take 110kph zones at like 150 so that can be intimidating and unsafe as fuck in twistoids

What are those, just the standard axial mounted Nissin two piston caliper? You could probably find axial four piston Brembos on eBay and pair them with a new master cylinder. Or just leave them, if you rebuilt them already they should last a very long time. A fresh master cylinder or rebuilding that and braided stainless lines will go a long way towards better brake feel.

Bell makes the only triple certified helmets to my knowledge, and most of their range is dual certified DOT and latest ECE
I’ve been curious why people think they’re so shit bc they’ve been nice since I started motorcycling in 2016
My father in law who used to ride tells me they sold out their brand name for a buck in the 80s or 90s.
I guess they didn’t make much good until they were bought out and moved development to Bahrain
Anyway, some being triple and most being double certified they are obviously quite safe, and I tend to like them a lot
>>
>>28602265
I did and only https://sharp.dft.gov.uk/helmets seems to address my question but some of their test dates are not filled up, so I am not sure if their 5/5 rating was given at 2010 or current year.

>>28602285
> I’ve been curious why people think they’re so shit
I wonder that too, and what I noticed is they have cheap helmets, you can spot a lot of other brands x2 the price of the Bell most expensive ones. Maybe they stopped investing in RND and still selling the same helmet past last few years.

I currenly run 250$ helmet and hit a dirt last time from which I was fine but felt kinda weird on that side. Nothing to worry about but I started thinking about the ratings for the helmets and what cert/standard should I follow for the next upgrade
>>
>>28602302
Bells most expensive helmets are $900, there aren’t very many lids twice the price.
Back in the day they invented the modern eps foam helmet, and they had the first full face helmet ever. they brought the first mips helmet to market in the modern era. So it’s the in between that they got shit and what people remember, like how AMC Harley had an awful rep for way way after the Willie g buyout

Where it will get rained on? No thanks
There’s a reason the gwing had to quickly redesign the tour pack this generation, everyone who actually rides their bikes wanted to be able to fit BOTH helmets into the luggage
Consider motorcycles from the s1000 gt to the versys, they all fit a helmet in the side bags as well
The low rider ST with its large fairing and hard bags, not to mention high output m8, is surely the touring-est soft tail, so to not have bags that fit a helmet is bizarre

The only reason I’m upset with the bags on the low rider ST is because I’ve been test riding Harley’s lately and I do a lot of touring and I think it would be a great bike to build into a mini road glide
Solo tour pack and fairing lowers would be all I needed if the stock hard bags were big, but an additional 1500 after mounts and hardware for reasonably sized bags stings

This reminds me of another conversation I had
When I drive around with my kids, I use all the interior storage spaces, in the door and such
I carry things loose to the car and then store them
My brother finds this bizarre. He would rather have no cubbies. He brings everything to the car in bags and just pulls things out of the bags as he needs them.
Often we are surprised that the way we use things are very different from the way others use things

How much can one expect to pay for a tune for my full header exhaust replacement? I have seen people talk about vcyclenut but I am in Canada and locally got a price of $700 CAD (500 USD) for a dyno and tune/remap for removing any restrictions on the system and mapping the proper air and fuel for the new exhaust and a hi-flow air filter.
