Yeah, no issues with it. It sat for about a year. I put fuel stabilizer in it. No leaks, running well.
It's still a really awkward feeling bike. You feel stretched out over the length of the bike. Has a weird tip in and doesn't like to lean very far or take hair pins too fast. It's a very raw visceral bike and is fun to ride though.

If I don't ride my bike for around 12 days I need to jumpstart it, is this normal? I don't know how long the battery should last. It's a 3 year old bike so I feel like it should last longer than this?

It should, yes. Your battery is either fucked or you have a power draw from something that is running it down. But it's probably the battery.

It takes mid to wide sweeping turns really well, but it's just not a hairpin bike.

>>28635452
The foot pegs, yes. They have a lot of adjustment, but the seat is awkward, the distance between the seat and the front of the tank is much larger than a Japanese sport bike, the tank is super narrow. So it's ends feeling like there's this empty chasm where your thighs should be able to grip the tank but there's nothing there, then basically what feels like a needle thin area for only your knees to grab. Bars are level with the seat so you're reeally far down, and more stretched out with the extra distance between the seat and the tank.
Then couple that with my having had a spinal fusion, I don't quite have as much manipulation or strength in my hips to hang off. It's difficult for me to hang off on my zx6r or Gixxer, impossible on the 999.
I'm sure a better rider with no spinal fusion would do fine, it was a wsbk champion bike. It's just not really a feasible bike for me to get down with in the twisties the way that I would like to. I do much better on my Japanese super sports.

That's an old Soviet ПMЗ-A-750.
If anything, it's more akin to a WLA in a Zundapp frame, but Zundapps like BMWs were boxers and shaftdrive.
I just think it's a very neat bike, if the Soviets made their bikes more "American" than German.
Apparently it was a bit too costly and complicated to manufacture when compared to the boxer twins that became more popular.

90% of a bike is the damn clutch.

>>
>>28635972
I'/m glad we're talking about this, because the DR-Z4S is the stupidest fucking decision I have seen in a bike manufacturer, ever. A bike that was supposed to be the entry level dual sport that was customizable as a supermoto now becoming the asking price of a base Tenere for EFI, throttle-by-wire, and riding modes is peak tiny hat.

Fuck Suzuki. They could have done anything and they did that instead.
>>
>>28635985
>>28635972
I still feel like you guys over inflate eclutch since it is just a glorified quick shifter without a physical cable. Most people owning them complain about the thing still requiring the clutch to be worked up and downshifting at higher speeds.
>>
>>28635985
Sorry for any confusing, I copy/pasted that from the spec/motorcycle.com release.

Both models are equipped with a second-generation E-Clutch system. Like the first-generation system that debuted on the CBR650R and CB650R, the system uses small electric motors to automatically control the clutch. With the 650 models, riders controlled when to change gears, but the second-generation E-Clutch works with the throttle-by-wire system for automatic downshifts. With the original E-Clutch, the electric motors are positioned on the right side of the engine, but on the CB500SF and CBR500R Four, Honda moved the components to the left side, citing improved weight distribution.

https://www.motorcycle.com/bikes/new-model-preview/honda-reveals-cb500-super-four-and-cbr500r-four-44649628

I'm not flash on the fancy abbreviations.
>>
>>28635994
Thing at most should have been price competitive to an xr650l or something. 7k for a 400cc bike looks significantly better on paper than 9k
>>
>>28635985
>>28635997
It's all part of the ploy to make bikes more expensive, bringing them into the price range of small cars back in the day.

Sure, these feature aren't bad, almost every person could benefit from some subset of them. They still add $60 worth of electronic parts to replace $40 worth of mechanical parts and up the price by $4000 to compensate.
They're effectively trying to price people out of having any kind of economical transportation at all unless you live in the actual third world where they still sell new carbed bikes on showroom floors, that you aren't allowed to have in your country of course.
>>
>>28635996
never used a quickshifter, but with constant-mesh boxes it could be an issue with the load-cells not able to be calibrated as precisely for load/RPM/temp/preload variables.
Seen it often enough with 'prosumer' manual cars and flatshifting on standalone ECU's. Though again, I have no real world experience.
>>
>>28635997
>second-generation E-Clutch works with the throttle-by-wire system for automatic downshifts.
This is probably because of people complaining of the chance a down shift without worked clutch could money shift. The e clutch isn't really a full dct equivalent since it basically only works correctly at low speeds for automatic clutch control.
>E-Clutch, the electric motors are positioned on the right side of the engine, but on the CB500SF and CBR500R Four, Honda moved the components to the left side, citing improved weight distribution.
Biggest complaint I had with first gen. The motor is bulky as shit, anyone who complains about the cb500 engines jutting out on 1 end too far has no idea how bad it could be.
>>
>>28636004
I get it, I truly do. The tin-hat part of me, though, sees it as the move to obfuscate ease of repair (or rather the inflated cost to repair) extremely simple electronics protected by proprietary code.
A steel braided cable and ferrule costs like $5, or $30 for the consumer and provides exactly what the user needs. Serviceable, adjustable, readily available by literally any outfit willing to sell you a sleeved cabled cut to length. Now there's a clutch wire and sensors linked to the ECU through load cells in the tyre pressure sensors...
Yeah going a bit out there but these days it seems the exception is the rule. Try replacing the subscription-enabled seat warmers on a Merc these days.

God I sound like a fucking boomer.
>>
>>28636005
You know you can easily rent these things right? Again, it just feels like an over complicated quickshifter with extra weight added on the bike. I'm not entirely against it since it fixes low speed issues with quick shifters but it gives you high speed issues according to some others. Trade off isn't great and it feels like something that should be on beginner bikes.
>>
>>28636001
It's positively goofy. I get why they did it; they are probably not making money on the DRZ line anymore because everyone already has one. This felt intensely counterproductive since the purpose of these bikes was to be lightweight off-road beater bikes and cheap on-road sumos.
So let's just rob both markets to meet euro5? A market Suzuki hasn't had a DRZ foothold in over 20 years? hope their gambit fails overwise everyone will follow suit
>>
>>28635994
>DR-Z4S
Bad enough already that weighs 50lbs more than an XR400 with the same power.
>>
>>28636005
I had a quick shifter oem (up only) on my 636 and it fucking sucked. At WOT and high in revs it would sometimes jump up then back down inexplicably, other times it would jump up 1 then down 2! It was only usable cruising under moderate power and revs. Which is like…what’s the point? You can just as easily bump shift like that

I get the feeling that caring about right to repair will be a generational thing and all the zoomers who grew up with ipads simply won't care that they live in a world when their $10,000 piece of equipment breaks down from a previously $40 fix they simply scrap it and buy a new one.

I get it./ After going FI, I kinda hated carbs too, to a degree. Never had this happen to any carbed bike I owned. Especially on a fucking 1000cc v-twin. Fair enough. In NZ I guess I'm a little spoiled in that regard, but for the longest time we had a crazy pricing monopoly on 250cc i4's and 250cc v2s because our licensing laws (learners) restrcited us to 250ccs before introducing LAMS that peddled kw:kg ratios. The 'RR' 250's were easily 4-6k depending on model/nick while you could pick up a TL1000s for 5k.

I think getting a computer to tell “fuck this retard is definitely going to crash” has become a pretty trivial problem, and then having it do what it needs to do to stop you from crashing is also pretty easy.
DCT is abominable, anything other than a 1-1 ride by wire is abominable, any electronics that tell the motorcycle to do anything other than in a definitely gonna crash scenario is abominable
I ride old bikes with carbs and have removed more than one starter motor, so ultimately my preference is as analog as possible, but I those are my thoughts on electronics

The 250s and 300s the US get are the lostest spec and true beginner bikes. Everything is cheap as can be so i4 250s aren't a thing, v and ptwin aren't as rare but singles are by far the mist common.

Same thing here. The batshit 250's died in the 90's everywhere FZR250, CBR250, ZXR250, GSXR250, all i4's that revved to the moon and made three (3) thimbles of torque. Only very recently did Kawasaki bring out the FI 250/400(?) ZXR I4 with FI.

I don't know what the geography is like where you live, but cruising along at 60mph doing 9-10krpm in top gear does get old sometimes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce1H_5nPLjw

Perhaps it could, but there's still other drawbacks about it as well. A different seat is something I could pursue at some point, but I'm just kind of over it for now. The bike is basically a weird awkward piece of art that I take out to rip on occasionally. A different seat might be the ticket though.

I have 2 sargent seats and 1 corbin.

Corbin is great, the best part is you give them your specfic dimensions and they'll make the seat around them. High quality, cool accents. The 1 downside to corbin is the foam is a little hard at first, but as you ride the materials break in and it becomes softer. The heat from your V twin will speed up the break in process.

If you love your duc, and want to make it fit you specfically, then I'd say that 500 is worth buying once to cry once.

If you ride off with your kickstand down and you go into a turn you will have a bad time.

Its 90-150 days of rain per year

It has very nice windy roads, valleys, etc to drive on and you can find tons of cool random spots and nice views due to the hills and lush forests everywhere

expect potholes tho, the weather is tough on the roads and maintenance can be subpar or non existant in some roads, much worse maintenance than in France or Germany afaik
Its not every road but you will find either potholes, or badly applied patches of asphalt to cover them which are almost as bad

As far as I know it will turn back on the next time you start the bike.
And no it's not a quickshifter, quickshifters are a based race bike technology that takes advantage of having a constant-mesh sequential gearbox and the e-clutch is a cope for wristlets. I decide when the clutch operates not some retarded machine.

Charge it off the bike then load test it or bring to any auto parts store since nearly all have load testers.

Load testers are so inexpensive I advise owning one along with a multimeter and incandescent test light.

A weak motorcycle battery after three years is normal. Anon who mentioned static drains is wise so I'd do that too since what's untested is unknown.

I store all my batteries on Yuasa tenders (they make a vast amount of batteries so it's reasonable to expect their tender not to cause warranty claims).

Vertical twins are sufficiently narrow I'd not inflict the extra weight in the first place. That style bar won't save an exhaust since it's so high up.

That method works fine.

I hang complete bikes (Harley big twins included) in midair between my shipping container bike garage shelves using pairs of straps (when one needs unbunching the second captures lift progress) to comfortably access the bottom.

They can't tip over and no space-wasting, shit-accumulating lift table required. I've done it for many years and should have before then. I use soft slings where useful but straps can be fine on their own.

Not everything conventional is optimal. That scooter is not overloading the straps or the joists.

Seat swap options include having your local auto upholstery shop build what you want on an existing seat pan. You can source gel packs etc if desired.

Harley police bike seats are easy to find including their suspension. Some owners use urethane dog toys (which greatly resemble Timbren urethane truck booster springs) on theirs.

If you want custom find or cut a similar seat pan and have it upholstered.

That may last a bit but internal corrosion will continue. A lasting repair is torch soldering, brazing or welding but that may buy enough time to find a good tank.

The rubber tip was fine because it was not at all intrusive.

Extra relays and wiring and switches not so much since they're not particularly robust. I delete all that shit on personal bikes since if I forget to raise the stand I deserve to get Darwined. I fixed enough such shite on customer bikes to dislike it thoroughly.

>>28636555
It's annoying when wrenching too but easy to delete by bypassing the switch circuit. Minimalist wiring done correctly is best wiring.
>>
>>28636596
>and you'll be paying 2-5k more for a bike where you can pick your own gears

I won't but I'm not a wrenchlet and prefer to indulge in multiple motorbikes vs. burning money at a dealer.

You can easily bypass those switches. Strom fora cover that because failures are so annoying. I'd bypass picrel by cutting the leads off closer to the switch plug (easily done off the bike) then using a bare crimp splice and heat shrink tubing (to exclude moisture). Then if want you can reverse the mod by installing another switch or splicing that switches pigtail back together.

I do NOT fucking use Scotchlock connectors though because they easily corrode and are trash by design so ignore those suggestions.

Stromtrooper have several threads on the subject but those issues are common to many makes. If you want to save your switch you can buy a used one to harvest the pigtail.

You can also bypass the clutch switch which is worth knowing how to do before it breaks on the road (which it may not but fewer components means fewer problems).

These problems are so common I expected a video and was not mistaken.

Grab a copy (used early editions are fine) of Proficient Motorcycling and continue practicing emergency braking and maneuvers because mere riding does not teach that (as was obvious when I taught MSF courses).

This has happened to me. First the nigger going fast should have had his headlights on so you would see him in the distance and not do your overtake. He didn't so he is stuck with you. Just pull over in front of the white van. Not ideal autobahn driving but life isn't ideal.

If you see a headlights in the distance make sure to have a good look at them before you take your life into you hands and go in the fast lane at pedestrian speeds. You want a clear run at it and 130kms isn't really a safe speed.
>>
>>28635997
>502cc
Also I was waiting for this bike to appear and somehow just saw nothing about it last week, but anyways that will make it especially fucking impossible to get the CBR to fit in any goddamn club racing class. If they had just stuck with the 400 everywhere it wouldn't be so bad, although being so big it hopefully wouldn't be expensive to make keep up with an RS660.

Man does it look like a CBR500R though. Kind of sounds like this thing was just made to take a fat shit on the Chinc knockoffs rather than compete with anything else necessarily though, when I was thinking because there's a full fairing version it might be the World Sportbike competitor the 750 twin isn't being turned into.
