Some play is normal with rubber dampers. If you think they move now, when you shift while riding they move a *lot*. It's needed on pavement to spare peak loading on your drivetrain. Without all that movement the splines would come off your countershaft. Don't worry about it.

>>28660480
Yeah I think you and the other guy >>28660473 are right, my manual says up to 5mm is fine. I'll replace my chain and sprockets tomorrow. Thank fuck, I've been worried about the chain since they sag like crazy on one section, and then its really tight on the other, which I was assuming was damage caused by the play in the sprocket I noticed. Technically the chain is just about at the km range where it should be replaced, especially the way I treat my machine.

It's illegal to ride a motorcycle in my police state. I have to let the police ride my motorcycle remotely via a series of strict instructions which I must comply with unconditionally and without question. I'm just a passenger.

Makes swinging a leg over easier, allows you to wear a back pack, and carry a passenger should the need ever arise. Also you can strap stuff in front of the box. There wouldn't really be much advantage to moving it forward, slightly increased aerodynamics, but the downside is eliminating all those options.

I have a forward mounted top box as one of my options. I thought it would "look better" when I got it, but I'm not sure it does. I’m not posting my bike with association to my avi fagging
For what’s it’s worth I think I’ve decided against getting the striple anyways. If not for the lack of wind protection but the absurd maintenance windows, and I’ve been told the 765 in particular is difficult to self service because the engine is oversized for its frame.
Just as well, I love Japanese inline fours and they love barely needing any maintenance to put down endless long miles.

criminals wont go to the police over their crimes having repercussions
the govt wont allow vigilantism, but if you just fight back, what are they gonna do? go to the police and say "i tried to steal his bike, he kicked me off at 40mph and I broke my arms, arrest him"?
also you dont carry bear spray or mace etc. since thats illegal
allegedly, you carry some deep heat spray, and you accidentally miss your sore shoulder, and get it directly in the crims eyes, it supposedly has the same effect as police-grade pepper spray

>>enough policemen to arrest thousands every day over mean tweets
this'll come to an end soon, police force is bigger than all our forces combined, but have about 10 guns between them, and 0 scope to stop actual crime. apathy is growing at an alarming rate with about 50% of the force ready to quit or not renew contracts in the next 12 months
they'll have to go back to proper policing, or have a complete and utter gutting and reform(pun not intended), and they'll never, EVER have the respect and support of the public again, like they did over the last 200 years

Someone saw his bike on the Harley subreddit and doxxed his reddit account to the thread, then he claimed that “tranny jannies” were pretending to be him (for 7 years of posting on reddit lining up with his actual motorcycle history) instead of just admitting that he uses reddit and doxxing him is shitty
Now he comes back every once in a while to complain
>>
>>28660947
the mods on 4chan and most other forums on the internet are usually autistic trannies because those are the people who likely have nothing else to do with their lives. Sometimes they are sneaky sometimes they are just blatant with their trooness and can ruin communities over it. If you want a crystal clear example - the gay subreddits have basically kicked out real lesbians and banished any dissent. Now they are just trannies posting cringe memes and talking about how they are the "true" lesbians. Sometimes more subtle versions of it are fashion reddits where they sweep any bad optics of men dressing up as women.
>>
>>28660944
>the govt wont allow vigilantism, but if you just fight back, what are they gonna do? go to the police and say "i tried to steal his bike, he kicked me off at 40mph and I broke my arms, arrest him"?
idk, I've seen some stories of exactly that but it's more of a case of aggravating circumstances and the police just choosing the wrong party to crack down on.

>this'll come to an end soon, police force is bigger than all our forces combined, but have about 10 guns between them, and 0 scope to stop actual crime. apathy is growing at an alarming rate with about 50% of the force ready to quit or not renew contracts in the next 12 months
I really, really hope you're right, watching it happen from the other side of the pond has been discouraging in its own right, we get enough police state actions here but we aren't being dragged out of our homes for mean tweets just yet.

Hey guys, I just got my first bike, thought I'd share and ask a few questions.
Its a 1981 Honda CB400 with a 1982 Honda CM450T engine and a Mikuni Bs34 carb. I picked it up for 600$ CAD and have been slowly working on getting it running and cleaned up over the past month. I took the carbs off to clean them, put new gaskets in and freshen them up. I repainted the gas tank and I went over the bike once with chrome polish just so it looks prettier for the pics.
Rn my current battle is finding a reliable source for BS34 carb parts cause I'm a newfag to this kinda stuff and I just ordered the Keyster rebuild kits for it off some sketchy supplier site but Ive got a feeling that's not gonna be a reliable place to get parts off of in the long run. Also is there any specific advice for cafe racers, the majority of my experience on motorcycles was my grandpa's harley and that was just riding it up and down the farm road to visit family. Any advice would be appreciated and thanks in advance, alot of really cool bikes in this thread.

PARALLEL TWINS ARE.....

Thinking about upgrading next year from my T100. Lowered it down to an R9, zx6r or 900rs. Thoughts? I have a thirty minute city commute but have access to twistys every weekend.
>>
>>28661294
>R7
Yamaha should really upgrade the engine for this bike alone. It can make 110hp with just a camshaft swap from Yoshimura.
>>
>>28661346
A man can dream.
They'll never do it because it's supersport teritory in terms of power and they already have an R9

How hard of a rider are you? If you can't help but break the law everytime you're on a bike then get the ZX6R, it has to be ridden hard. The other two are better if you aren't constantly redlining, LAR9P if you like roleplaying as a supersport but actually just want to own a commuter, RS if you are taking estrogen shots bi weekly.

My own suggestion would be to get an Aprillia RS660, which is everything the LAR7P/LAR9P wishes they were, is cheaper than the 9 while more powerful than the 7, came out before either (nips just copied the idea), and is European.

Funny enough people asked me about the bike when we stopped here because they recognize the Suzuki engine and ignore his bright green KLR completely.

Broken belly button guy here. It's been a month since a surgeon who looked just like Keanu Reeves put a couple of polypropylene stitches in my navel and I have two more weeks on my doctor-ordered rest program and I am going insane.
Worse, both surgeon and neurologist want me off the baiku for another three months. I am gonna ignore that part but I thought going in that I would spend the downtime working on my bike but that turned out to be a no-no as well (don't want to cause inter-abdominal pressure) so my fork seals still leak and the front tire still needs air every other day. fml

Rode my Aprilia Classic 50 home, sixty miles of country lanes, urban either end. Never ridden a motorcycle before today.

Is only 50cc so I got overtaken by a tractor once but at my current skill level (low) this is fine. It is more power than I can use. It felt fast as fuck but I think a lot of the time I was doing nearer 25mph. Peaked at an indicated 70km/h slightly downhill in 5th gear.

Weirdest thing was hardly needing the clutch once moving. Just slides in if the revs are roughly right. Was not expecting that.

It straightens out before he even gets to the bars because he leaned his weight in to reach the bars as per the Dunlop wobble and weave guide would suggest https://youtu.be/z3OQTU-kE2s?si=pkqZHbGDabcmmmwS
Theoretically if you have torque to pull a power wheelie you could end a tank slapper like that but if you already don’t have control of a bike speeding up probably isn’t wise

No you don't, you need to rebed them in because you got the pads really hot and then you sat at a light and some of the material coated just one spot on the rotors. If you do the normal break-in thing of going faster and faster and then breaking hard but not stopping it'll scrub that crap off.

Breh, just the maintenance alone on a Ducati will make that $2000 seem like nothing. If you even cared about $2000 then why the fuck are you buying this brand to begin with?

You can literally buy a 990 duke for almost half the price of a monster. If you gave even one single flying fuck about money, you wouldn't buy any Ducati.

If $2000 is a lot, then why are we even shopping for a Ducati? Answer the question, because every single bike in this brand is marked up 30% to other brands on top of costing 2x the amount for every part you break.
>>
>>28662234
Well in all fairness the duke won't last to the maintenance so the ducati is probably a better value.

But really that 2000 dollars is after you've put 20 thousand miles down, I think. I'm not looking through manuals for bikes for an online argument so thats the google ai thing. For a ducati guy thats probably 3-5 years.

Its a luxury vehicle, yeah, but like were not talking luxury cars were talking luxury vehicles that cost less than literally any new car.

Nice meme, too bad Ducati has the same undeserved reputation that is only true of past European bikes. Modern European bikes are just as reliable as the nips, well, maybe Honda still has an edge since they unpower all their machines.

Ducati is literally just the Hurley of sport bikes, overpriced bikes that run on brand recognition. The bikes themselves are all great, just far overpriced compared to literally any other brand.

The argument wasn't that "2000 dollars is a lot of money" its that 15,5 is more expensive than 13,2. When you take it in with the whole context the second question becomes important. the pannigale is only 1000 or so more than the streetfighter and they're literally the same bike in all other ways.

The question is whats the point of the streetfighter.

I'm not saying that on its face 2k is a lot of money. I'm saying that as a difference in value its a lot of money. That the bikes are not competing nearly as much as yammie says they are.

>The argument wasn't that "2000 dollars is a lot of money" its that 15,5 is more expensive than 13,2.
And in doing so you lose any sensibility or reason, as you focus on a tree without the forest around it. Ducati's audience and consumerbase is not poorfags worried about saving 2 grand, in fact the brand survives BECAUSE its overpriced, not in-spite-of. Just like Louis Vettoun sells you a generic t-shirt for $600, so too Ducati sells the Panigale for 1.6x the price of the RSV4.
>>
>>28662247
>If $2000 is a lot, then why are we even shopping for a Ducati?
Again, please become Ducati's spokesman because "If $2000 is a lot, why piss it away on a Ducati?" would be a hilarious marketing line.
>>
>>28662263
>And in doing so you lose any sensibility or reason,
Only if you have difficulty counting in simple math above your 10 fingers like you seem to have.

Brainlet bud, it's easy, One is 10 fingers and 3 toes, the other is 10 fingers and 5 toes plus a toenail. Can you guess which one is bigger?

>You already wasted all your money on a Shitcati why not waste more of it?!
This is like peak woman logic. This is what she says when she sees you spend slightly-above-budget on tires to justify getting an expensive perm and a gucci handbag.

To the point that I have to ask if you're a woman yourself, Lass.
>>
>>28662266
Idiot.
>>
>>28662252
And you answered your own question. They're great bikes, just a bit overpriced.

Having enough money to buy a ducati monster doesn't mean you can't think that 2000 is a lot of money. You personally don't think that anyone who could afford a ducati would care about their money, but they are great bikes.

And like seriously "being able to afford a ducati" isn't that impressive a toyota corrolla costs 10k more a monster.

>>28662263
If your line of reasoning was correct, they wouldn't have the regular version and the "plus" or "s" versions. They would just have the most expensive version and that would be the only one that sold.

Fuck man, the very fact that people buy the fucking streetfighter V2 over the pannigale v2 disproves you.

That would be correct, you are literally just throwing money away buying a Ducati, if you are interested in throwing money away for zero value, then continue to do so, this brand will help you out in that regards.
>>
>>28662275
>That would be correct, you are literally just throwing money away buying a Ducati, if you are interested in throwing money away for zero value, then continue to do so, this brand will help you out in that regards.
Oh ok so what you actually took the last 30 minutes trying to tell everyone is "Ducati bad". It's not that the money makes no sense, it's that you personally hate Ducati.

Awesome, exactly the discourse I expect from the Dee bee teee.
>>
>>28662270
>Having enough money to buy a ducati monster doesn't mean you can't think that 2000 is a lot of money.
But being willing to buy a Monster does in fact mean you think $2000 means nothing, because you have already thrown away that much buying it compared to any other brand, and will continue to do so for every broken part or service interval.

>If your line of reasoning was correct, they wouldn't have the regular version and the "plus" or "s" versions.
Not at all, even Louis Vuitton have special deluxe versions to separate themselves further from the plebs.
>the very fact that people buy the fucking streetfighter V2 over the pannigale v2
Incorrect, there can in fact be individual tastes to people who buy overpriced brands, but the core foundation for buying that brand still rests on the DESIRE to spend excess on nothing but a logo.

You really just think that someone who buys a 13 thousand dollar bike instead of a KTM duke 999 for 12,500 wipes their ass with hundreds?

I really don't know why I didn't call you out for this earlier, the duke costs 500 dollars less than the monster, not "almost half as much".
>>
If I was trying to learn to get the front tire up on a dual sport, and I want to learn on a nice soft grass field in case I wipe out. I have a nice green belt under transmission lines near by with a concrete walking along the side, but I have no idea who actually owns it. I assume it's the town.

Assuming someone drops a dime and I have the cops show up, what are the odds they tell me to just piss off vs impounding my bike for tresspassing or whatever?

Actually didn't realize the 990 was so overpriced itself and just assumed it had the usual KTM pricing that matches the nips, in that case just compare it to the Z900 instead which is 10k flat and fits the usual Ducati scheme of being 30% more expensive for everything.

So yes, you literally throw away 2500USD for nothing. Thats 2500 USD + tip on top of all the parts being more expensive, and the service asking for 2x the price + tip.

>>

SE edition is for throwing away money to separate yourself from poorfags, except you're a poorfag for buying a Z900 to begin with, so its basically like buying the angus burger at a mcdonalds and laughing at the people buying a quarter pounder.
>>
>>28662309
Has a 2000 dollar difference and the only things that I can find different are the colorways and the rear shock. It doesn't even say SE on the side or anything.

Anyways though I could point out that like if you're buying a 10k bike we could say the same. The person buying the z900 and the person buying the monster or duke aren't doing it because of the value. You're just buying the bike you like most at this point. If any person in this hypothetical cared about value and absolutely had to buy a new bike they would ride a navi.
>>
>>28662319
>The person buying the z900 and the person buying the monster or duke aren't doing it because of the value.
I mean maybe, but if you want a naked then thats the value of those bikes, KTM and Ducati are just overpriced compared to the nips (although normally KTM is more fair). Honestly the Monster is probably the most reasonable price that Ducati offers, and its still overpriced lmao.
>>
>>28662323
I never argued about them being overpriced or not.
>person A buys one because they want a naked ducati
>person B buys one because its cheaper than the next bike up
Person A might wipe their ass with hundreds, but person B not so much.

And anyways if you don't think person B exists at all I don't really care. I'm not trying to justify the PRICE of the bike, I'm trying to justify its existence on the lineup because yammienoobs dumbass friend doesn't think it has a spot on their lineup.

New front tire to match my newish rear tire, all set to rip this weekend. Feels like riding on glue after finishing off my last set with 10k+ miles on em

normgroids don't understand just how merciless asphalt is, it's also why they think a thick pair of jeans is just as suitable for riding a motorcycle as actual armored pants. might as well wear basketball shorts, but good luck trying to get them to understand that.
>>
Saying $2000 is a lot in the motorcycling world is the wrong way to look at things imo
Is $2000 a lot, or isn’t it?
People do this comparing rifles and pistols quite often. 3k on a rifle setup is fine, but thinking of spending that much on a handgun setup is out of the question. Both are going to only get shot at paper most likely, though.
Similar with motorcycles. Fundamentally (for most people) these are luxury purchases.
It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. If you’re buying something to use a lot, why would it matter what it is? Either it’s in your budget or it isn’t.
