Someone called me a nobike for saying this is how I do my grocery shopping, finally remembered to take a picture
The shoulder strap goes under the seat and I tighten it down, so I don’t even need to bring straps or anything.
>>
1st for scooterbros
>>
>>28671071
scoots are based, I sometimes wonder if I wouldn't be better off having one and just loading its cargo space up instead of having cargo racks and panniers
>>
>>28671073
>Stunt riding wears the machine in ways it was not designed to endure
do we have the science and technology to build a bike specifically designed to perform stunts? like in the same way we have track bikes that are built for the track. do we have stunt bikes that are built for doing stunts?
>>
>>28671080
notice how the suspension in vertical. this actually reduces wear on the spring.
>>
>>28671076
have the cargo space + racks and panniers
the vanilla helix looks sorta goofy but a spazio with panniers looks like sex and i'm so mad i missed out on that by being a fucking burgerfat
>>
>>28671076
The under seat storage of a scooter is pretty much the same as a top box
For the biggest scooters, it’s like the biggest top boxes, for a small scooter it’s like a small top box
Being that it’s very easy to put a high quality top box on your motorcycle, storage shouldn’t be the defining factor in whether or not you want a scooter
Rather, scooters offer excellent weather protection for their size, and excellent fuel milesge. Certain mid sized scooters offer weather protection comparable to full sized 800 pound touring bikes
>>
So the jeet government introduced mandatory helmets law and some are not happy
>>
>>28671084
lmao you're retarded, the angle of the spring has nothing to do with anything
>>
>>28671091
Mandatory helmet laws are the first step in making people forget that motorcycles are practical, reliable vehicles
>>
>>28671088
This looks like it would be amazing for long distance touring but I wouldn't like to be riding it around town.

What cc?
>>
>>28671091
I'm against it too, because I want more dead jeets.

For reference, in track there are people who put 11 bar of force on their front forks. You need to give it a fucking rest.

Based, it should be a choice if you wish to ride without one. Plebbitdads just like women want more and more boots on their face, they say being enslaved isn't enough, they want to be whipped like dogs as well.

im joining /adv/ chads, im buying a 1st gen KLR 650, its a 2001 with 20k miles in pretty good shape. It's gonna be great, im not having visions of grandeur regarding performance or anything but theres so many offroad trails and things to do in my area its virtually limitless.
What are some of the most common areas to look into for preventative maintenance or maybe even small upgrades starting out?
>>
>>28671115
i wish that i was young enough to ride a bike that was designed to withstand being dropped multiple times. but my old bones are too brittle now so i have to stay upright. you have my envy.
>>
>>28671080
Basically a supermoto with crash protection and the usual control mods like a rear fender step and a hand controlled rear brake. Dry sump for infinite wheelies, heavy duty suspension, hand guards, not enough mass to really hurt itself.
>>28671115
It's old. Regrease or replace all bearings. Get it sprung for your weight. Fork seals, etc. Good tires. Gear it down a little. It's a pig, but it doesn't have to be a clapped pig.
>>
>>28671088
I need to see those attachments, before they are attached.
And see what options there are.

It's annoying when you search for bike storage and racks and stuff, and you get stuff to attach to cars.

250ish i think? you'd think it'd be bad at touring since it's below 300 but people swear by it for long distance riding
>>
>>28671101
Your production bike is not a multi million race bike btw. You should be the one that lays down NTA.
>>
>>28671143
I was expecting a number around 750ish. Yeah, nah, I wouldn't like to be touring long distance in a 250. That would barley have enough torque to pull the extra weight of the cargo + passenger.

bro i think it's wise to just give up on trying to reason with him. there's literally zero chance of ever getting through.

What, you think pic related doesn't happen in WSBK? In BSB? In your average track day? What do you think happens when you brake at 300kmh? Magic braking fairies come and slow you down without putting extreme force on your front forks?

Check oil burn, check cylinder heads with an inspection scope
>What are some of the most common areas to look into for preventative maintenance or maybe even small upgrades starting out?

Thermobobs are snake oil. Seats are a must. Carb is one of the best for this bike but you can get a carb kit if you're anxious about it. Always check the petcock, those things fail often on those.

#1 maintenance issue is old KLRs burn oil like no tomorrow because of warped cylinder heads and cylinders because of uneven heating. Always check oil level and top up before you ride on a used Gen 1 KLR. You can fix this problem with a sleeve and make it 700cc if you so desire. You can also simply replace the cylinder and re-hone the cylinder walls if it's a problem. Or- do what everyone else does, put oil in it when it needs oil, never think about it again.

congrats anon, you're going to love it.

I mean really, how feking delusional do you have to be to think literal constant red lining at 150-300kmh with nothing but endless open throttle or maximum braking to be easier on a bike than a clutch up and doing circles with a 60t rear sprocket at 10mph with a light bit of rear brake and throttle to control it?

Even stoppies, which are the only comparable action to the braking on track are done at half the speed and left to roll for many more meters than full braking does.
>>
>>28671160
Right, because they totally race stock bikes in wbsk lil bro. Hmhm. Yup. 100% factory show floor models.

And BSB? Tell me Iass, what do you think happens when you hit as much brake as you can muster without locking the wheels at 300kmh? Where is the force going? Does it disappear? Transported to some magical dimension outside of time and reality?
>>
>>28671126
>>28671171
based, thanks for the tips anons. I guess ill find out if it burns oil or not when it gets here, my buddy is driving it down from out of state. Hopefully it doesn't burn any, and then i will definitely check the petcock, I literally just dealt with that on my vz800 marauder kek.
fork seals were just replaced, tires are good, starts up first crank, so seems to be well cared for. Got it for 1500

Retarded autist here, so bear with me if this is retarded and/or autistic.

I was looking at the new Suzuki 800s and read that they describe their clutch assist system as "like" a slipper clutch. But is it actually a slipper clutch? On my Ninja 300 I could "feel" the (actual) slipper clutch spinning in reverse when I downshifted aggressively and the rear wheel wanted to lockup. Suzuki says that the system functions "like" a slipper clutch by allowing a small amount of slip... but isn't that what ALL clutches do? Why not call it an "actual" slipper clutch if that's what it does?

why not just go for a ride and test it?
Anything obstructing excessive sound waves from entering your ear canal and damaging the stereocillia reduces hearing loss.

Some earbuds have an issue where exterior sound can vibrate the diaphragms resulting in headaches ( similar: sub-audible bass). This is why earplugs are the best.
I personally use plugfones, but the focus is to minimize full energy vibrations from entering the canal.

I guess so...even that is pretty scary honestly. It's exhilarating but scary. I seem to either do too much throttle or too little. I did too much throttle on my zx6r the first day practicing. Brought it up to 45 degrees immediately and felt my soul leave my body. Kek

I do. I could do that, but it seems even scarier on that to me because the bike is so high and I don't feel as secure on it as a sport bike.
I have many excuses as to why every bike I have and every condition is not good for me to practice wheelies.
Unironically, the cbr250 feels the most comfortable to me for practicing. My wife bought her own bike and she's not using it very much anymore so if I looped that one, it wouldn't be a big deal.

You want me to go out and test the long term effects of wearing earplugs vs not? Im asking if there is any evidence or anacdotes that show whether or not its damaging. I dont know how wind noise affects hearing long term and thought maybe other riders would have this info. The fact that the only person with anything to say is some pedo weeb whose tinnitus could have worsened for any number of reasons include age, it doesnt seem like a commonly brought up issue which makes me think its not that big of a deal.

Loud enough noise for long enough will always damage your hearing. It's fine if you're just getting a coffee or commuting to the next town over, but anything more than that and I'm always wearing mine. Other riders sometimes think it's dumb but usually they can't hear shit anymore.
I find it comfy, wind noise is making it harder to be relaxed and focused at the same time. I hate myself and want to die and yet I still wear earplugs because I sometimes like to listen to birds sing.

Hard lowers added. I've had them for a minute now, only just now put them on tonight because I had to order different pipe clamps online. The ones the Chinaman sent were for 1" pipe, but Harley crash bars are 1.25". I watched the company's "how to install" video (which was nice they even had it) and it showed the Chinese technician using the 1" clamps and using pliers to force them to work, which is weird to me because it shows that they know the clamps they are providing are not the right size but instead of changing it they're just like, "our guy can force this wrong part to work, so you can too."
I am still trying to decide if I actually like them or not. I will need to look at them tomorrow when the sun is up. They're ebay specials, probably Hog Works or Advanblack grey market, so it's not like I paid a lot for them if I end up not using them.
They have little glove boxes where people normally put speakers. I don't know what I'm going to put in them, but I have the urge to put something in them just because they're there.

I'm from Australia where you need to do multiple practical and theoretical training days in order to be given a motorcycle licence. In SA you need to do 2 half days at a motorcycle course then pass a practical exam just to get your learners licence, then about a year later you have to do another half day course with another practical exam to progress off of your learners licence. They go through motorcycle gear, lane positioning, clutch and throttle control, riding in different weather conditions, the affects of speed, accident statistics, etc., but not one single time did the topic of hearing protection ever come up, not even as an offhandedly side note. I've never heard anyone mention it and it never even occurred to me that it would be a problem until recently. If it is an issue then that's a major flaw in what is otherwise an overprotective system compared to places like the US where you can do absolutely zero training and go straight to a 1000CC superbike. I'm shocked that something so important gets completely overlooked.

To learn it just takes commitment and patience and practice. I started just popping it up a little bit and getting comfortable with the sensation of the bike surging up.
As I kept doing this I began to get it higher.
I looped it twice in two weeks learning, and think I got a small fracture in my right wrist. I thought i knew to use the rear brake but it wasn’t muscle memory and when the shit started falling backwards I shid myself.
So I started really working on rear brake. Then one day I popped it high and automatically used the brake and that was the turning point.
It takes a lot of practice but you can do it. I’d 100% start on the cbr250 or a dirtbike. The bigger bikes are heavy, the throttle is touchy, and balance point feels fucking high on them compared to a dirtbike.

For the revs you're gonna use in the day to day, it feels anemic compared to a twin.
You need the extra displacement to make it feel good for the every day commuter.
Plus, aditional complexity and cost when it comes time to fix anything that breaks in the engine, it's easier to sell a twin to the average joe.
>>
>>28672155
Ledditdads who do the speed limit made it their life mission to campaign against real sport bikes because doing the speed limit means you never have the revs high, which makes it a shitty ride. They want the sport bike larp, without commuting to real sportbike actions and skill. Combined with #bikelife #biketok influencers who are basically the same as leddittdads (except with even less actual riding) and the results are as you see today with the LAR7P being shilled across every platform.

The cb500sf I agree on for replacing the cb650r not the sport version but unironically it is a skill issue for sport and standard to complain about unless you REALLY suck at using the clutch and throttle. Plus every time I am reminded people that complain about low cci4 wouldn't even consider vtwin over ptwin for torque of all things.

Molded or 3m teathered silicone ones tend to be the best, less chance at earwax compacting and they do just enough to still hear but not damage your hearing.

Let me get this straight
>"naked" is just a pretty standard bike
>cafe racer is just the sports bikes of yesteryear or bikes themed after vintage birtish motorbikes
>scrambler is just the enduro/trail bikes of yesteryear
>adv bikes were originally just offroad bikes for long trips like the Paris Dakkar challenge. Now more like road bikes with some off-road usability with tons of luggage space for single fathers
>Cruisers are bikes styled after vintage american motorbikes
am i right?
>>
>>28672220
Naked are sports bikes with no fairings, "standard" bikes are UJMs (and those styled after it like vintage roadsters et al)
Cafe Racers are bikes modified to be fast in a vintage style, usually little to no fairings (or old ones), built for the street
Scramblers are pretty much that but old bikes could be turned into scramblers by having enduro elements like knobbly tires, modified suspension and seat, etc (dont fall for the "I have a flat seat so x bike is a scrambler" meme)
advs are kinda like dual sports but bigger and more polyvalent
cruisers are such because of their riding position (seated low with arms and legs forward)
you arent too wrong on the whole
>>
>>28672220
Try to understand touring vs sport.
>>
>>28672227
>Naked are sports bikes with no fairings,
but old "standard" motorbikes (and UJM) are basically naked bikes, and the seating position and purpose of a naked bike isnt to be used as a sports bike but just to be well-rounded usually
what you describe as a "sport bike with no fairings" sounds more like a street fighter

There wasnt really a "naked" type when bikes had basically no fairings unless they were a bona fide race bike. Until the 80s came around virtually everything was naked or had maybe a windshield.

>Modern "nakeds" are paralLEL twin commuters that are basically no different than a UJM at this point. You are confusing them for streetfighters.
Who the fuck calls them nakeds and not UJMs? They are the very definition of them.
What do you make of say a GSXS1000 then? UJM or naked? Cause to me it's very much a GSXR1000 without fairings and slightly different riding position, but almost same bike otherwise. Almost like it's a *naked* version of the GSXR1000.

What's a good second bike considering this is my first? 15k miles and 6 months of riding almost daily and in all weather conditions but snow, I feel I am ready for something bigger.

I love this bike and the torquiness and how smooth and spirited it gets at 7k RPM and how I can whip it nonstop around town and not become a felon.

My problem with this bike is mainly that I consider it too tall/top heavy for me. My second problem is how buzzy and rattly it can feel at mid to low RPMs.

So I guess what I want is an inline 4 that is oriented for moderate comfort and that I could add handlebar risers too, but sporty performance, but I really can't find a new bike that has both those things. Maybe the GSXS750? I have heard people complain about the CB650R's lack of torque in the midrange compared to the 650 v-twin.

probably been asked a million times before, but for any UK fags itt, what's the quickest way to get a loicence for a proper bike?
I know you need a CBT to ride a 125, but I'm over 25 so what next?

CBT > Theory > DAS
it'll probably cost you in excess of £1000
>>
>>28672453
Most schools offer a DAS (direct access) course. It starts with the CBT after which you can book your theory and then do your tests at the test centre and on road (can only book one after the other) I think I got mine done in less than 3 months in total (feb-may). We were on the big bikes (Z650) as soon as the CBT was printed off and did hundreds of miles on weekly lessons after that. Cost about a grand 3 yrs ago. Go for it.

>>28672460

what if I don't want to spend a grand, is the best I can ride being over 25 and having a CBT just a 125?

honestly, just spend the money if you have it, its an investment in your eternal freedom
and yeah, without A2/A1/A you can only ride a 125, and have to retake your CBT every 2 years
you might be able to find a better deal because nobody wants to be learning to ride in winter, but likewise nobody wants to be teaching
>>
>>28672479
>nobody wants to be learning to ride in winter, but likewise nobody wants to be teaching
is it hard? I mean, I have a car loicence.
>>
>>28672480
>hard
not really, but youre fully exposed to the elements
and its not really as enjoyable in the winter, especially when your school will probably have you on a naked bike, so you'll be freezing your nuts off
most schools will have ABS bikes anyway, and afaik all test centres in the country use Shellgrip now, so even in torrential rain you can do your mod1
but you get a bad cold/damp morning start, chilled to the bone and you just want to fucking die on a naked

>>
>>28672493
From what i've been seeing you kinda need to be either drafting behind a truck, going down hill or having a lot of wind behind you to hit 60. CB300 can hit 60-70 no problem and for passing that seems like a way safer option (or even if driving in right lane).
>>
>>28672486

Don't listen to the others, none of them can ride well anyways, get your cbr300/r3/ktm390/ninja400 and learn on that instead of a 600+ paralLEL twin. Most people don't even know how to carry the speed they have, and its why they twist the throttle mid corner and end up in lowside crash compilations.

I say this from buying the rebel300 after msf. I shill the cb300r and 286cc hondas a lot here but if you plan higheay riding over 75mph for any extended period of time it just sucks, such is the issue of lower cc single cylinders. But if you are planning to only do short trips it is great and especially in cities for this engine. >>28672524
I have some regrets with the rebel, granted the other models with the same engine deal with vibration better.
>>28672513
I'm not suggesting a 600cc or bigger bike, I am suggesting a very tame 500cc people usually start on. R3/mt03 and the ninja 400 don't have these issues since they are ptwins.

I spent approximately the same amount of salary that the wannabe piggies on /dbt/ make to make mine gp shift. Clutchless upshifting feels really gud, and adjusting to this stye was easier than I thought it would be, but if you have a gorillion years of riding it might be much harder, especially when you are in panic mode.
