Where do you live?
Which strom you got?
How much is it at right now?

>>28688341
the vstrom has a reputation for being a road queen and not a real utilitarian bike like the tenny is, which is ironic because it's a way, way better dirt and off-roader than the tenny. Especially the 650.

Doesn't matter, first impressions are everything and it got the reputation of an unfun dad bike. It probably doesn't help that 800s got a huge recall last year beacuse their tires were falling apart.
>>
When the fuck did helmets get so expensive, holy shit.
I feel like 10 years ago a $800 helmet was like moonbeam money.
>>
>>28688516
everything is stupidly expensive
>>
>>28688518
Jesus, I guess.
Fork seals are $30 a pair but you better change your helmet every 5 years MINIMUM or your head will spontaneously explode.

I'm glad non-bike people think my 25 year old bike looks brand new but don't mention my ghetto AF helmet.

The powder stuff from the powder-coating gets INSIDE so when it gets into the oil the engine is kill, no way to ever get it all clean again either so i have to build a proper new lubrication circuit without it if i dont wanna replace the oil every 1000Km and risk overheating.

When it comes to chinkshit off Amazon I wouldn't trust that it meets any sort of standard just because it says it in the description. It's even more concerning with a modular helmet because of the risk of it opening during an accident, and also the mechanism could just break during regular use because it's low quality.

Helmets are literally the ONE piece of gear you should not buy used because you can't see the critical degrees of wear they might or might not have (i.e. microfractions on the inner and/or outer shell).
Gloves, jackets, pants, even boots you can judge on how they look and feel. You can also easily inspect them for damages.
And, even IF, worst comes to worst and you buy any of those WITH an imperfection and all the stars align and your gloves or pants DO have a material failure, you scrape some skin or break your knuckles.
If your helmet has one such a failure in that once-every-10-years bad luck moment, you hurt your head and chances are, you're fucked forever.

You can buy everything else used and not lose any sleep over it, but not the helmet.
>>
>>28688656
>How do you know your expensive helmet won't do the same?
>local retard has his typical skeptical moment
>QUESTION EVERYTHING

in case the tested helmets with safety certificates approved off by a dozen western nations do fail to a certifiable degree, the expensive helmets dont stay expensive for very long because the expensive helmet companies don't sell any more expensive helmets.

did you ever buy medication at a pharmacy? why not go to your local shady shitskin dealer and have him mix it for 15% of the price?

I'm assuming you mean the price diff between a used AT vs t7, but look at that MSRP spread. If the KLE is the a2/beginner bike, there's not much gap left between it and the mid size bikes at this point. You're paying a $3k premium for 50% more horsepower.

What range the bike tyres can usually survive for if you don't spin them?
>>
>>28689331
depends if left in the sun or garaged.

if garaged then your tyres will be fine. get them up to temp and see how they feel.
if left in the sun then they will most likely need replacing.

Earlier today a jeep wrangler slowly backed into me while I was parking my bike. Luckily it happened under the best possible set of circumstances, I had just dismounted so I was able to catch the bike before it fell. The driver's eyes had that yellowy sickle cell look and he talked like his brain wasn't getting enough oxygen. You can guess what he looked like. He was pretty apologetic but holy fuck man.

That's a kind of freedom I never even considered in almost 40 years of life because before owning a bike, getting behind the wheel of a car was just a boring means to an end. This is skipping the middle man, the means IS the end.

not even a boomer, it seems obvious that with something like your personal cash, you use the simplest thing that can't just break. cuz right now you're carrying two phones on you to do the job a wallet does with no power.

See this is what I think would vastly improve the teen suicide rates: When they realize that they don't need anyone's permission to be out on the road doing whatever they want. Once they're 16 or 17 they can get a scooter license and be out doing whatever the fuck they want at any time of the night.

I'm in my late 20s and only stopped feeling like a piece of shit when I realized that I wasn't required to listen to anybody about any decision I made in my early 20s. It's what got me into motorcycles.

Physical things can be replaced. If that chip fucks up you're stuck with a lemon forever. Or worse, in 5-10 years there's a major software flaw found in it like with old credit cards NFC chips and you can't just replace it.
>>
Whats the consensus on heating your hands? Heated gloves or heated grips?
I was gonna go with gloves but it looks like you have to buy like 3 different things for a gerbing setup (harness, temp controller, gloves themselves). Just seems like a headache. Is it worth it or should I just go with some oxfors heated grips?
>>
>>28689537
>Physical things can be replaced
yes, and a microchip is a physical thing that can be replaced. though i think now that my wrist would be a better position than the back of my neck. then i can use it to pay for things like i do with my phone and/or watch.
>>
>>28689538
grips. It's not that heated gloves are bad, it's that heated grips work no matter what glove you have and are warm in the parts you would want to keep warm (your palms)
>>
>>28689540
>yes, and a microchip is a physical thing that can be replaced.
yeah man, just get a pocket knife and dig that thing out every 4-5 years. At least on the wrist it would be easier but you'd risk hitting your radial artery.
>>
>>28689538
heated gloves only last one season before they stop heating.

t. tried 3 different brands

also, modern heated gloves aren't as you described. they have the temp control and battery built in so all you have to do is charge them over night. the temp module will be on the left glove.

>I mean, I could just go for a ride now.
I'm back and fuck, I learned a valuable lesson: Country roads and highways in late October fucking SUCK at night if you're not wearing thermal underwear. I froze my fucking legs off after 2 minutes.
Downtown was okay, I suppose because it's less windy.

And another honda noob problem:
>come to stop at a red light after going 50km/h or 30 freedom units
>after coming to a stop, I begin shifting down from 4th, 3rd, 2nd gear towards 1st
>only that after going from 2nd to N, I can't continue shifting downwards
>I panic and keep trying to downshift like a madman because any second the light is going to be green
>EVENTUALLY, after like 7 tries, the bike finally lets me go from N into 1st gear and I can continue driving
How do I prevent this? It doesn't happen at every stop light, but often enough that it's annoying me because I know that I'm missing something crucial here.
>>
>>28688742
There's a little kid one street over from me who makes a revving hand signal every time I pass by and so I always rev my bike for him. Honestly it stresses me out sometimes but I can't let him down now. Part of me wonders if he keeps doing it because he doesn't want to let me down.

Any shop worth their while will have both bikes in stock soon. Go and try them on.
>>
>>28689864
where do I find a shop that lets me test ride
>>
>>28689869
I mean, honestly you might not even need to test ride.
They're both basic ass Parallel twins. Take the weight and HP figure into account and you your answer.
Even if one boasts a large hp figure, maybe it feels worse between the legs.
>>
>>28689869
>>28689871
You don't even need to test ride and horsepower and torque isn't even that important. The most important thing about riding is fitting the bike, that doesn't require riding it but you need to sit on it. There's a level of adjustability to bikes but if you don't fit, you'll hate how uncomfortable it'll be to ride. It's difficult for a novice but instead of horsepower and torque figures, go with inseam, reach, and cycle-ergo online body position simulator
>>
>>28689874
Derp, >>28689874
>inseam, reach, and cycle-ergo
And saddle height, forgot about that. You need to fit on the bike, horsepower and torque comes after
>>
>>28689874
>horsepower and torque isn't even that important
I dunno. It's pretty easy to notice a power delivery difference on carbed bikes when you swap a jet, so I assume on efi bike you notice difference.
>go with inseam
I actually disagree with the inseam thing. I've ridden a few "ADV" bikes that I can flat foot, but are so cramped once your feet on the pegs it's unbearable.
You basically HAVE to sit on the bike before you buy it.
>>
>>28689876
Sure but power control comes much much easier when the bike fits
>>
>>28689876
Also, flat footing is a dumb standard, it's better to be on your toes than on your heels
>>
>>28689878
Actually yeah, I retract the idea that the bike's power should adapt to you, for the most part, you should adapt to the bike's engine.
Ergos are >>28689879 the most important. When riding at least.
>>
>>28689880
>Ergos are the most important. When riding at least.
Agreed, riding makes the human part of the handling dynamics, better fit means better handling

You think anyone can flatfoot a horse.

Bikes are basically wheeled horses. There's a reason we say riding a bike, not driving it
>>

Hehe that's cute, but did you know majority of people on the planet does not speak English and it's different in other languages?
>>
>>28689894
I don't speak Spanish in particular so I had to use Google for that, but i speak four other languages and out of them only japanese does it as well.
>>
>>28689890
English is the most spoken language in the planet by total number of speakers

Spanish was a bad example, as a worldwide hyper language many parts of the globe speak Spanish differently. Another example of a horse culture with riding vs driving difference is France. Basically the equestrian cultures who recognized riding a horse vs riding in a driven carriage/wagon

So... the gypsies?

The root word for bike in German is ride, there's a reason for that too and it's because they're also a horse based culture

Wheel, fuck's sake.
>>
>>28689916
>>28689917
And what's ride? Bike is basically ride wheel in German, but why do they call it riding a wheel? Because a bike is a fucking horse on wheels and a car is a carriage driven by a motor instead of a horse
>>
>>28689900
Montar means "to ride" and can be applied to a motorcycle.
Montando una motocicleta = riding a motorcycle
>>
>>28689918
I was going from motorbike because this is /dbt/ not /n/ kek
>>
>>28689937
Lel there's an oddly high amount of crossover between /n/ and /dbt/ while the recent flood of urba/n/istas are strongly against /o/il. I was a long time oldfuck on /n/ but I've moved on, you can say I'm too boring for /n/ now

Sounds like mount in English. To mount a motorcycle. To mount a horse. You stay mounted while riding it. Your horse can be called your mount. How well a young gentleman is mounted.

I like the motionn of applying that to motorcyles. Fits.

Why big electric motorcycles have similar range to electric bicycles while weighing 5x?
>>
>>28689969
Power to weight ratio is at direct odds with both battery capacity to weight ratio as well as power to efficiency ratio, unless either batteries or motors find a way to become significantly more efficient, electric bikes will be a game of chasing a mirage
>>
>>28689973
So when eu prohibits combustion engine cars and motorcycles we are all doomed either to use old ones until they prohibit those or just have a range of a bicycle?
>>
>>28689969
>>28689973
As well as that the range figures given for electric bicycles are at far low speeds, which requires less energy, and usually takes into account some input from the rider.

>>28689984
I don't know how the whole of the EU is going to go about it, but at least here in the UK it will only be the sale of new ICE bikes that will be banned. You'll still have all the used ones on the market to choose from and you'll be able to ride them until they fall apart. People are regularly riding around on like 20 year old bikes with no issues and I think the last I heard the ban is coming in around 2035, so you'll be fine until at least 2055. By the time ICE bikes are no longer viable to ride (not impossible, just that maybe parts could be more difficult to get hold of) electric bikes and the charging infrastructure will be so much better than it is today.

So today is 7°C outside, I'm the nobike but I decided to go riding on a rental scooter. How the fuck it is at the same time very cold and very hot? I just came home, my thermal underlayer is soaking wet, yet it was cold all the time. The jacket is motorcycle winter jacket picrel, which is one of the best AFAIK.

ask the dbt gear nerds in here, they sure as hell know how important good gear is
>>
>>28690038
Well the whole point of sweating is the evaporative cooling cools you down, so if you're gearing up while you're indoors in the warm and sweating you're going to be even colder once you're outside.
>>
>>28690038
I can't speak to your riding situation, because I've never been too hot riding in winter. I do layer for stupid human tricks outdoors in cold weather though, so sweating in winter is definately a thing.

I recommend a merino wool base layer, then a lofty mid layer for insulation. A good technical fleece is great here. And then a wind/water proof outer layer. If it's too fucking hot, the mid layer goes back in the pack. I don't thpically like much insulation in my outerlayer unless I'm sitting still for extended periods of time.

It's nice, amigo.
I say that, but I'm in Vegas, where the riding season is opposite the rest of the continent. Right now, it's finally cool enough to ride. Couldn't be happier. It's hog crankin' season and I'm going to crank every chance I get until June when it gets too miserable outside to sit on all that chrome and leather.
