Still in Nevada, escaping the goddamn winter. I've ridden the wheels off of this thing in the last while. 2200 miles to get here and a few thousand since. This photo is at 8000-ish feet up Mt.Charleston - I'll aim the camera at the view off it next time, this was just my view of my machine after I took a roadside piss and cigar break.

Shop hasn't done anything with it. Sitting outside there still in the rain. New tires nlt bought or fitted, no work the electric system of speedo, both of which I could do myself given the unlimited time they have had it there.

Went today and tbe assistemt didn't know anything. Might go back later today. My uncle is coming over on Thursday and I can't just show him nothing. Plus he cloud help me with some of the problems.

Not a great situation. Either means falling out with a shop that has been there since the 1950s and is full of oily goodness. Or just be cucked indefinitely as the months roll by.

Idk if it's smart to spend so much on a bike. It could be downpayment on a house.
>>
>>28701770
Basically because the guy who runs it is really likeable and there is no more genuine looking bike shop than it. Plus a mob of scruffy bearded leather jacketed biker types popping in and out chatting. Not fallen out just they aren't getting on with it.

If I can get him to stick tires on it I think I can do the rest. The place is absolutely full of bikes in various states of disassembly and repair. I am not concerned about being cheated but I do want it done sometime and if they are really too busy I'll have to take it elsewhere. The only thing I really care about is the tires as I am not confident enough to do that myself. The rest I can do in my front room given unlimited time, which given the month or more that has passed I likely could have done myself by now.

Ideally they would just sort out the tires, speedo and electric charging in the last couple of weeks and it would be worth me paying someone to do something I would otherwise have to frig about fixing myself. But just not doing it is difficult and the riding months are flying by.

I have a motorcycle rain suit that works really well. My baiku with 8 yr old tires isn’t very safe over ~35mph if the rain is very heavy

i have a car on standby, basically just for snow

I work from home, if you need a daily commuting vehicle and are a poorfag then you probably should get a cheap motorcycle or moped and save up for a cheap car, you can probably find a running moped under $500

Baker please update the Bakuon!! link. It goes to some malware site.

Ideally if you can find it online somewhere link to it but I had to get it off bittorent, without subtitles:

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:670dc15618201e124bc6c17b63aaa94ea7e0f71e&dn=%5BSFEO-Raws%5D%20%E7%88%86%E9%9F%B3%E5%B0%91%E5%A5%B3%20Bakuon%21%21%2001-12%2BSP%20%28BD%20720P%20x264%2010bit%20AAC%29&tr=http%3A%2F%2Fnyaa.tracker.wf%3A7777%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fopen.stealth.si%3A80%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.opentrackr.org%3A1337%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Fexodus.desync.com%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.torrent.eu.org%3A451%2Fannounce

Then I had to get the Enlgish subtitles here:
https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/ssearch/sublanguageid-eng/idmovie-1627924

Don't keep posting malware links, someone will likely click on it. Ideally someone would do a version with subtitles already or with and English soundtrack.

What fullface helmets are considered the most compact from the outside? Like brand
>>
Looking at buying a 20-30 year old bike because apparently emission/noise levels have killed all the simple (re:as little electrical connectors on that fucker as possible) single/twin cylinder dual sport with a windscreen and rear rack in the 45-60hp range close to the 400lbs range. Everytime I read some history on one, it goes the same way.
> 600cc Transalp
Damn near non-existent in the US. Bitching fairing design though.
>xt660r
Never sold in the US.
>2000s KLE
Never sold in the US.
>nx650
Ditto

So, I guess that leaves finding a rare f650gs Dakar or KTMs 640, one of which is apparently a bitch to try and fix in the field and the other has notable cam/throttle issues. Someone mentioned trying to dress up a xr650r, but the oil change service interval on those is 600mi according to the manual, so not a great fit for putting on highway miles.

Anything else I should be looking for instead?

ill be real honest: i am a retard who is old (26), has a poor sense of balance and I would say a totally average hand-eye coordination.

I only want a bike license because I like working on engines and my aunt just gave me a busted 500cc motorcycle for free which I have almost finished repairing - I finished the engine rebuild and just need to do the wheels and that now.

since I have spent half a year working on this bike, I want to ride it, despite me being (in my opinion) a naturally sub-par motorcyclist. the only factor working in my favour is that I have zero ego and no desire to do anything more exciting than trundle along to the local pub via country backroads.

given all of that context, if I get my license and start riding, will i die? are motorbikes really as dangerous as redditards would have me believe, or can a knuckledragging neanderthal like me get by with a little prudent caution?

It's really not so bad. I used to ride my 650L for 3-4 hours at ~80mph on the highway to visit my girlfriend every weekend and it never let me down. I just had to stop for gas along the way because it has a small tank. The gearbox on the XR is very wide range and 5th is nice and tall - especially if you swap one or both of the sprockets to bring the highway RPM down further.

~23000 miles on mine.

The horsepower numbers are really uninspiring but it gets the job done better than you think. Still, if you're never planning to take it off the road at all you're probably better off with an old CB500 or something.

Do direct access course, pass and start riding. But if you want a long spell learning pre-test you will need something <125cc as you can't ride 500cc as a learner.

Looking to buy a used CBR600RR 2016 that's been sitting for over two years.

Engine sounds good apart from what im guessing is a cam chain tensioner noise that goes away after the bike warms up, what im getting told from friends is that this is a small and easy fix.

Bike has been dropped but nothing serious from what i saw, just a straight up drop from the kickstand.

The big issue im having is debris in the fuel tank, im not sure if there was rust on the inside of the tank walls. it was daytime and i only had my phone flashlight. i for sure saw some minimal rust on the top metal part of the fuel tank (the metal border thing of the tank)

How does this whole thing sound to you guys yay or nay? A massive upside to this whole story is a steal price 7k euros looking to bump it down to ideally 6.5k (where im from prices are really inflated)

clutch kit is installed, previous one was a ebc and I deleted the judder spring at the same time. It would slip until it got pretty hot, never had great feel. Even tried swapping from synthetic to normal oil and didn’t help. Thinking the assembly was maybe too thin.
went with a tusk kit and it’s biting real good now. Also used an extra thick steel to bring up the thickness a little. Not sure if that was the problem or not.
I always change like 3 things at the same time so I never really know.
Still a lot to learn
Thx for reading my tweet
Oh I need new tires. Debating:
Dunlop 605 - stock 50/50 suck ass in mud

As much as I'd like to do that I can't in my current apartment. Maybe I do gotta look into getting a different place. Hard to find cheap places that have suitable storage for a bike. It would have to be a small terraced house (is that the word?) with a storage shed at the front but most of those sheds aren't big enough or the door is awkwardly placed that you couldn't get a bike in even if they were long enough.

For now it's at my dad's old house but I can't afford to buy the house for myself. My brother is thinking of buying the rest of us out and if he does maybe I can store it there for a couple years which would give me time to figure it out.

I think the only time I've gotten a ticket in my 18 years of riding was from a cop that never mentioned whether or not he had a bike too.
The cops with bikes at home let me off of so much shit it was unreal. Hell, even the two ambo drivers that responded to me being t-boned told me bikes are dangerous, then find out one had a Hardley and the other a GSX1400. The cop that turned up to write the report owned a Busa lmfao.
I was overwhelmed at how many of them owned bikes in their line of work. Maybe it's an NZ thing.
>>
>>28702914
The only time I've been pulled over was for riding without a helmet, but other than that the cops seem to go out of their way to avoid me.
>>
>>28702943
It's easier if you can calculate the differential pressure across the venturi then plot that on a graph with rpm and liter per minute flow rate to determine the ideal jet size
>>
>>28702943
Not completely useless, it's just that theoretical =! real world, or rather, that turning carbs are extremely difficult but the practical solution of trial and pulling plugs is a shortcut to bypass all the math.

V-stop=P-storm, SV=8S

Only Yamaha gives people what they want. They wanted a sportbike for daily use and a track weapon - R7 was born.
People wanted a supersport with better power delivery - Yamaha gave them R9.
They wanted something fancier than a stock XSR900 - Yamaha delivered the GP version.
People wanted a new Tenere to larp as Dakar winners - it's here.
Now some people want a CP3Tenny and oh boy they'll get it.
People wanted some unmolested supersports without restriction - Yamaha kept the mighty R6 and never cucked its engine.

What did Suzuki make right in the last two decades? No racing SV, no RGV heritage models, some ugly heavy ass p-twins with the same riding postion and a DRZ no one's gonna buy.

Why the fuck would TVS do this? They need to launch competitive products. You can't be an underdog and launch premium products, at least not sustainably. Don't become MV Agusta, or some boutique brand, become the next RE or CFMoto. Come on TVS, you can do better.

never had a bike and I'm wondering how to tell if the helmet isn't too thight. I ordered L, XL and M and L and XL fit snugly but comfortably but the strap at the bottom either only starts to fit at the tightest position, or is always loose even tightened to the max. M is really snug, to the point of pushing my cheeks upwards, which looks funny, but doesn't squeeze my cranium that hard, so I don't think it would give me headaches. both L and M are really difficult to put on and off, M almost ripped my ears off. I'm gonna be riding only Yamaha DT 50 at first (no license required and 60mph/92kmph unlocked so it's not that bad) then plan on getting a license in the spring, so I got an integral one in case I get a decently fast bike next year.

Ask the person at helmet shop. If M doesn't have any pressure points and covers your whole head, pick this. L, also seem fine from your description.

Try to fit it like pants, measure your head with a tape, then the size of the helmet should be mentioned in the size sheet. So M in cm, L in cm etc. If the particular helmet doesn't fit, move on to a different model or brand. Different helmets have different head shapes, oval round etc.

IMO, your cheek should be snug, if someone tries to pull the helmet off without it strapped, it should feel like your head is coming off, so feeling like your ears are being torn off is a good sign. Your helmet will get lose in a month's use I think, like pussy, it gets loose over time.

I already checked the size chart and measured my head and my size should be M according to this. no bike shops nearby that I know of, I was able to try out 3 sizes, because I ordered them (can return for free within 30 days), first got XL instead of M by mistake, then ordered M again and decided to get L too just in case, because XL didn't seem 2 sizes too big.

Originally I said I was going to get a sports car to replace it, but I'm wondering whether or not that's really going to scratch the itch, and not only are they fucking expensive, but they're also totally gutted by safety and emissions standards in a way motorcycles aren't.

Gentlemen, i have accidentally crossthreaded a frame bolt hole while trying to mount a frame guard ironically enough. This happened because the exhaust was in the way and i was too hamfisted. Now i get to remove the exhaust pipe then attempt a thread chaser and/or helicoil. What a mess I have made. How can I prevent further fuckups?

Please share your dumb maintanence or mod mistakes where an innocuous error becomes a time and money waste.
>>
>>28703547
They took my license once and I didn't stop riding. I did keep it mellow for that year, though. Stopped at all the stop signs, and so on. Even payed my registration on time.

Gentlemen? where?!
we can take ‘em…

My dumb maintenance error is i snapped the head off a bolt while removing the PO’s license plate on my backup transportation. I have no solution for this, my plate is just hanging from one bolt for now. Also the bolt head is stuck in the socket bad enough that i just bought a new one.
>>
>>28703574
You're probably fine. There will be good threads left deeper in.
When I do fux0r a hole I generally don't go for the helicoil first, If it's a metric hole I drill and tap it for the next Imperial size up. You get like 40% thread engagement instead of 60%, and if you fuck it AGAIN there's still room for a helicoil.

>>
>>28703584
Hole is a metrix m8 1.25. Have you ever compared results of tapping vs. thread chaser? I am a total novice and just doing what Ari Henning tells me to on Revzilla's youtube channel. Trying the thread chaser before trying helicoil...

The thing that scares me is removing and reinstalling the exhaust system because it requires removal of horn, exhaust pipe, muffler. I must be brave.
>>
>>28703597
Drilling tapping and helicoil are only for after the chaser fails.

I dont think it would be wrong of me to say that my NC700 is SLOW
i have more fun on faster bikes (bikes of medium speed) but I've always kept the NC (almost a decade now) because of other factors. I can't buy another new NC because they stopped selling the manual in the US and I would rather stop riding than ride DCT bikes.
So I am aware the suzuki will definitely be faster. Pretty much everything is faster.

It's funny how much it differs in the US. People in europe don't feel elitist for driving manual because it's normal but in the US everyone drives automatic so those who actually use manual feel special and rather stop riding whatsoever if they stop being treated special. Lul

How about stripping a headbolt on my DR because the manual says "oil the threads of the headbolt" which I took to mean "dunk the headbolt in oil" so I guess the threads hydrolocked and when I went to torque them down It destroyed the threads.
I installed an amazon, off-brand helicoil which apparently was the wrong thread pitch, so I had to once again order a non-head bolt that happened to be the right length and thread pitch to match the now installed helicoil.

Only to learn after that I should installed a "time-sert" made for headbolts.

It's holding for now, but there's no way this won't have unintended consequences down the road.
I also learned that head-bolts tend to be special and it was a really bad idea to throw in that bolt.
Live and learn I guess.

>Do you hate it because it's cheap?
I don't dislike the BMW in particular. I just hoped BMW was going to break out of this A2 compliance, $6k MSRP, lowest common denominator bullshit. I'm grumpy because I'm realizing we will never get anything between "new rider friendly!" 450s borrowing street bike engines with anemic torque under 3k rpm and trading ground clearance for flat footing, and top heavy 450lbs 75hp chonkers that salivate at your LCL the moment you glance at a berm.

I wish there was a market for a 375lbs 55hp bike with adjustable front suspension, metal handguards, thick bash plate, and some God damn low down grunt in the $8-10k price range, but we're never going to see it because people will just say "I can buy a T7 for that!"

Both the drz and dr650 are lucky to see 35hp at the rear wheel. Both trade quite a bit of high end for longevity and relaxed service intervals. Dual sports sacrifice a lot of rider comfort on the alter of dirt as well.
