Yeah it should be 1001cc minimum for proper big boy non-learner bikes, everything bellow 1001cc should be in their own (us) quart bike threads and everything bellow a quart should be a pint size thread for mopeds, scooters and other children's toys.

Quick question.
I have been reading these learner threads, and i am interested in getting my first bike.
Whats better for a learner
R6
CBR600
ZX6R
GSXR600

Or should i look for a 750?
>>
>>28796136
get a sv650
>>
>>28796136
All of those pint size bikes serve only one purpose and not for a very long time, to move on to a bikker quart bike and later on a gallon bike, so don't worry about it too much as they won't be around forever.

If anything, you might want to look into the dealership and parts network around you, you don't want your toy to be just sitting in the garage for weeks while waiting for parts.
>>
>>28796137
These look okay, but have very low power.
I don't want something that won't cope on cruising at high speed, or that i will get bored of

>>28796139
So you are saying just get any of those to start with? I guess they will all he similar, right?

Yeah, basically all of them are so similar that it's down to little details like one havi g 1bhp over the other, while the other is 1 pound lighter and so on, basically nothing.
They're all good pints and it's down to personal preference and looks.

I'm tired of wearing a bulky jacket with all the armor and a shitty kevlar jeans who make me sweat everywhere I go. I'm thinking about getting a motocross chest protector and forgetting about the jacket and riding jeans.

I lowslided with my first bike wearing zero protection a long time ago and it wasn't a big deal, I scrapped a knee a bit and my ribs hurt a bit for a month or so. What do you think?

Instead of a motocross chest protector, why not an airbag vest? Or even an airbag backpack if you want something that doesn't look like gear?

You can also get riding jeans which provide some protection but are still pretty comfortable. You would want something A rated rather than AA. I wear a pair of Rev'It Jackson jeans and they're quite comfortable, they just have Cordura sewn into the fabric itself rather than a separate layer of Kevlar. I would say that pants are probably the least important piece of gear in terms of saving your life, but I would personally still always wear a helmet, gloves and boots.
>>
>>28796704
You will never be a real motorbike. You have no capacity, you have no horsepower, you have no torque. You are a scooter twisted by delusional ubereats riders, and people who are too scared to ride a 600cc learner bike.

All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your parents are disgusted and ashamed of your inability to get an actual motorbike, your “friends” laugh at your ridiculous LARPing appearance behind closed doors.

Real bikers are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of biking has allowed men to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even scooters who try to “pass” as motorbikes look stupid and are gay. Being slower than a prius is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get past someone in traffic, he’ll overtake you the second he reaches normal road speeds.

You will never be happy, pretending to be a biker. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, and that 125's are just like the real thing, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll buy a rope, tie a noose, put it around your neck, and plunge into the cold abyss. Your parents will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll bury you with a headstone marked with your birth name, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know scooter rider is buried there. Your body will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy is a skeleton that is unmistakably low tesr.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

You can buy armored shirts for street riding, you don't need go get motocross stuff. Don't be a retard and skip leg protection, either. Get some better riding jeans or some mesh pants if they're too hot. Getting lucky on a lowside once doesn't mean you'll get lucky a second time and leg injuries fucking suck.

>guy goes "yeah uhh we don't really service that brand... we don't know how to, sorry"
is this normal? i figure tyre swaps are pretty much the same for every bike on the market
>>
>>28796758
What's there to not know how to service? If it's a regular tire size, there shouldn't be any problem for even a half-retarded tire shop. Unless it's one of those service centers that only services certain brands, I can't think of any reason they wouldn't want to take your money.
>>
>>28796758
I usually rock up to the nearest tyre center with my wheels in the trunk, the clerks already going "not this fucking guy again"
>Hey, need tyres, got the wheels in the car

>>
>>28796136
>i am interested in getting my first bike.
motocrosser here (yes I know you are asking about street bikes), start with a light underpowered bike to learn on. Its critical to learn braking and turning and not have too much power because it will get you in trouble - you will go too fast too soon and not know how to stop or turn quickly. Even if you buy a cheap beater to learn on its worth it. Even small engine bikes have a lot of power per pound, the purpose of the transmission is to increase the power but at a loss of speed for that gear, but that is why there are more gears to go faster. Starting, stopping, turning, little wheelies, stoppies, sharp turns are all needed. Why? there is a lot of shit that can go wrong.
>>
>>28796767
Yeah, that's what I thought. Genuinely didn't know how to respond to the guy so I just said ok, thanks and hung up. I don't know why he wouldn't want my money

Do I pull the engine apart to get the crank out so I can take it to a shop for a bushing job or do I grab a "new" engine for 300 bucks?

The horent is okay, and a better option than the sv.
Svs are nice but extremely low powered. If you want that kind of bike, maybe look at earpy fazers too (the fzs600, not the fz6, fz6 is shite)
Fzs had the thundercat engine and is a bit of a sleeper, as far as learner bikes go.

What is "extremely" low powered?
My 650cc has maybe 30hp on a good day, lucky if even half of that is present.
>>
>>28797242
I would rate the SV as a great beginner bike.
Linear, enough power to get you into trouble but not enough to surprise you, flickable, not *too* heavy, wide aftermarket and used parts support.
A stepping stone for sure, but I've had plenty of acquaintances hold onto them for much longer than you'd expect before upgrading.
One of them had the nut-cut SV650 LAMS special and thought it was faster than my ZXR250, but he's too pussy to ride my 250 and my TL1000S but I digress.

I will look into more comfortable A rated jeans, but I don't really trust airbag vests, I have seen videos where they don't inflate in time. Also the chest protector might be better than a jacket in case I actually crash against something

Bought new. There was only one used one within reasonable distance and he wanted MSRP for one with 5k miles on it.

>>28797278
This was my first longish ride on this bike (3 hours or so), so I cant give any info on long range touring yet, but I didn't feel any particular kind of discomfort. It could probably use a Seat Concepts kit for all-day rides since the seat cushioning is just okay. Wind blast is fine, though most of my previous bikes have had little to no wind protection so it doesn't bother me.
I'm coming from a KLR650, an R80G/S, and a Monster 750. To me, it feels like a physically smaller, faster KLR with better handling and far better stock suspension.

The delivery drivers in my city center have a lot of new scoots this year. Chinkshit is out, Honda and Kymco (the other China) seem to be the popular options.
I talked to a guy with a Kymco yesterday, he gets 80 mpg and buys two and a half gallons a day delivering ten hours.
Can't decide now, was gonna get a Honda but the Kymco looks pretty lux.

If you get an SV650 (great bike) whatever you do DONT WHEELIE THEM

They have a frontal oil pickup not a rearbound one, meaning if you bring it up you're starving the engine of oil. Also 2003+ has EFI, the carbbed ones are PITA to service just because suzuki tucked them in quite a bit. Just don't wheelie an SV.

You might think they've made her tities look smaller to represent how Yamaha is smaller than the other brands, however in fact this is because her small cc titties (displacement) dominated the market. (RZ350) So even tho Yamaha bikes (titties) were smaller in size, they were more desirable than any other bigger titties, because they were nice and juicy (and still are). Also let's not forget that Japanese people are all pedos which means Onsa and Yamaha in general was always meant to be more appealing. Only really uncultured people such as (You) didn't get it sooner.

Now if they make that smaller and put it in a bicycle it would be perfect.
motor can go in the bin. 700lbft of torque is unless because you a limited by the rubber of your tyre.
>>
>>28798970
>700lbft of torque is unless because you a limited by the rubber of your tyre
No.
Take the V-max, for example, max torque is 123 lb-ft. Multiply that by the total reduction ratio of the drive train (primary, 1st gear, final drive) to get the torque delivered to the rear hub in 1st gear --
1.509 X 3.082 X 2.375 x 123 = 1358 lb-ft.
The donut bike has a hub motor, so no torque multiplication from gear reduction. And electric motors deliver peak torque at 0 rpm and it goes down from there. So half the hub torque of a vmax is is kinda mid for an electric bike.

Your question could be restarted as "How does the DR650 improve over the k5 gxxr" and it's silly as they are for different applications.
This is an electric bike. What is exciting about it is (if true) it claims to solve both the weight and charge speed problems of electric bikes.
Electric bikes are relevant here because, like it or not, gasoline is going to go away. Any motor fuel that produces carbon release to the atmosphere is going to go away. It will become economically untenable. Not tomorrow, but sooner than you think.

At least they're still rounding up only once past the 50s. On one hand, it's scumsucker behavior to call the Ninja 451 a Ninja 500. But also, anyone that chooses that bike over another 450 because "lol number go up" lacks the front lobe function necessary to not embed themselves on a road sign.

When people start calling shit like a 626 a 700, then you know we're a decade out from total collapse of the 2 wheel market.

Too slow, and the cbr was actually one if the slower 250's available back then.
But either way, its way too slow.
>>
>>28799185
Well, I could have recommended an rs 250 but given the Aussies history with them, it's easier to find the Honda.

Honestly, the plain old gpx250 was quicker.
I had one, and a couple of mates had the cbr.
The cbr was suprisingly slow, for an already slow category of bikes

How the hell was a 36hp bike that redlined at 11k faster than a 43hp that redlined above 18k?
>>

Fucked if i know, but it would leave the guys on the cbr's every time.
Maybe its gearing, or maybe having to ring the shit out of something to get any power out of it is not a good thing.

Hit the dirt lot again on my learner bike. I got a little familiar with the rear wheel kicking out in a turn. Very crazy sensation. I worked on tightening up my turns while standing. There's a bunch of parking medians to maneuver around. I haven't fall yet, and that makes me a little nervous. Especially because of the saying, "If you're not falling, you're not trying." I probably should have made myself fall early on to get it over with. Now there's a buildup.

Take a test ride, k5 because torque and comfy riding posture. It beat a panigale on track. There's a nice revzilla vid on this. Honda might have cheaped out on suspension. Make sure it comes with heated grips and cruise control. Good luck.

As far as I can tell the Honda will be specced slightly above the Suzuki because it has electronic damping, and they're both obviously going to have all of the comfort features you could want.
I'm leaning towards the Honda, but I like the way the Suzuki looks and people really gush over the engine, so I don't want to discount it.
I've never heard of dealers letting people test ride bikes, especially not litre peters like these. The CB1000GT isn't in the country yet, so I haven't even sat on either of them.

yeah i've been kind of going deep down this rabbit hole and checking marketplace for multiple states around me literally every day since november.
the wr250r is more like a 300 in terms of performance (but that's not a big jump). i'd argue it's better than other similar bikes. klx 300, crf300l, drz400. it's a nice bike.
this one has an aftermarket exhaust, fuel injection tuner, higher capacity fuel tank. the sumo wheels alone i could probably resell for like 600$ on marketplace.
this is one of the best deals i've seen in the past 3 months. i kinda just wanted people to be like "damn cool find!"

the context is not interesting but the guy had it for like 1234$ and trade only. i asked if he'd want to sell it and he said he'd take 4k and then i said i'd pick it up saturday if he'd do $3500 and he just accepted that. i expected him to counter for more because $3500 is kind of ridiculous. the cheapest i've ever seen one of these go in my area was for pic related for $3000 and that one was basically stock with an exhaust on it.
normally they're like 4500-5000$ for these bikes around here.

theres not much to get
he didnt get enough affection from his mother, and his father wasnt there enough to beat him, so now he has to seek attention from a chinese basketweaving forums dedicated automotive departments dedicated motorbike group chat, and make other peoples days slightly more annoying by compartmentalising the singular motorcycle thread on the board
if I didnt know better, I'd say hes been put up to it by the jannies to increase ad revenue and traffic on the board, but surely theyd never set out a single schizo to make money for them right?
notice how irrationally mad he gets and starts throwing around "nobike" and "melontranny" because I tell him an objective fact that truckergen, a slower general than us, hit bump 4 days ago and is still alive
its quite pathetic really, but until the jannies step up and do something, we're stuck with his faggoted ass ruining our downtimes and past times
fair few regular posters have already stopped or slowed posting because of it, and its a shame
and good luck finding the thread half of the time too, because he's too dumb or willingly malicious to even tag the threads as /dbt/
