I'm trying to get back into bikes for the first time in years, the Kawasaki KLE500 looks fun. Gonna wait a few months and see what mechanical issues pop up and wait until longer term reviews come out but it looks solid for my needs.

Uhh, like an used bike or? Because a new bike should not under any circumstances have mechanical issues within a few months of ownership

Reminder that shoei and arai and Schuberth would rather sell you junk instead of selling you a better product in North America. They change the padding and shell construction to their North America market helmets, they only meet DOT and not ECE standards. This is a CHOICE since other top tier helmets like Nexx out of Portugal and even BELL have helmets that are dual certified. FUCK ARAI, FUCK SHOEI, FUCK SCHUBERTH
Unless you’re not North American, then it’s a good helmet

From the previously thread:

How to change my parent's opinion about me riding a motorcycle? They have absolutely no problem when I rent a scooter like picrel to ride around a town, but go absolutely insane when I mention I'm going to buy a bike. They also went ballistic when I announced I applied to a driving school.

I'm just asking how to change their opinion, not how to end the relationship. I could buy an H2 tomorrow and tell them to kick rocks, but I don't want it to be like that. Maybe you have some tips how to convince people with bike fears?

>>28877428
bro, they will get the fuck over it. There are way worse ways to disappoint parents than riding motorcycles. You can handle some whining and eye rolling when you pull up on it. You claim to be an adult, act like one
>>
>>28877463
Some people have different relationships with their parents. Mine were either overbearing (no leaving the house) or nonexistent (moved country), so for me it was an easy decision.
>>
>>28877405
my mom used to be super rich and when I got old enough to get my driver license
she use her connection so I didnt even have to take the test, I just walk into DMV take a picture and walk out with my full license
I asked her for bike license too to but she wont let me
she would buy me a BMW 3 series instead just so I woulnt ride a bike
it wasnt until she went in jail couple of years ago that I finally bought my own 125 scooter, and now 300cc maxi (and looking to upgrade to 700cc tourer)
so yeah either move out of your parents house or wait for them to die or go away like me
especially if you are buying it with their money

One Jikov in place, fuckers don't have a long cable elbow like the Russian Pekar carbs do so the cable keeps slipping out of the slide constantly due to too much slack.
Put an inch of brake line between the cable cover and adjustment screw as a permanent makeshift repair.
There's loads of 45 degree and such throttle cable elbows, but the fucking Czech had to be different.
Everyone uses M6x0.75 fine pitch threads for adjustment screws, the germoids, the japs, the chinks, but not the Czech, they use 1mm thread pitch so absolutely nothing can be used here.

Man fuck these dumb ass boomers that complain over everything. It baffles me that these were the same faggot hippies in the 70s going "PEACE AND FREEDOM, MAAAAAAAAAAN". To hell with these wrinkly bastards. Every single one of them.
>>
>>28877530
What's the issue if it's on the bed of your truck? It shouldn't matter worth a shit because it's in your car.

>>
>>28877531
The office lady told me just "because they complain over everything and technically I don't live here" but I am in fact on the lease. I even pay to rent my parking spot so I am legally allowed to park there.
>>

>>28877534
That's the plan but aren't they allowed to tow me after so many warnings?
>>
>>28877539
Tell them politely to fuck off anon

The scoot is in the truck bed, its not parked on the street, its not taking up a space, you can have whatever you want in the truck bed

What are they going to do? take the entire truck?
Rip the scooter off the truck?
>>
>>28877539
Also, put a cover over the scoot and tell them its not a scoot , they cant check
>>
>>28877541
I was thinking they would be so petty as to have the whole truck towed. These are boomers I am dealing with, after all. I tried to ask what the problem is and all I got was "they are complaining". Until I get a proper reason I am not moving it.
>>
Now that gas prices are skyrocketing I'm thinking about buying a second bike... I was thinking about a xsr 125, I already had a 125cc a lot of time ago and it was fine for daily driving. But, I'm also considering an hybrid ninja, the MPGs seems to be very good for how "fast" is it. Almost 125cc tier, but I'm not sold on hybrid technology. Which one should I buy? I currently have a k5 600cc gixxer as my only vehicle.
>>
>>28877454
buy a trail125 and call it a scooter when they ask
then buy a cb650 after a year or so and hope they don't notice much a change
also you'll probably be an adult who doesn't have to worry about what your parents mind with your day to day hobbies

If my brake lever goes spongey from a couple days of sitting does that mean I have a leak in my system drawing air in?
I did the zip tie trick (compress the lever, zip tie it engaged, leave it overnight and remove it in the morning for perfect brakes) and it fixed my problem but it happened again so now I suspect maybe a tired bleeder valve just drawing air from the threads? Maybe tired crush washers?

Can't stand spongey brakes.

Cant figure out what bike to get.
Xsr900 fits better than mt09, but it still looks like someone crashed their r1 and ripped the fairings off.

GXS8T too much for a piss twin.
knocked out victory octane and sportster s from the list not comfy bikes.
Eyeballing a moto guzzi right now, i tried out a 10' thruxton 900 beautiful, but just like the Hornet and cb650 the pegs are too far back and it hunches you over. Maybe i got too used to the adv neutral style. Sounds sick though.

TOWN MATE
>>

>>
>>28878448
Isn't it a clone of Honda Cub which is in itself a clone of a German scooter? Bet there's also a cheap chinese clone of Town Mate too.
>>
I was looking for a cheap used bike with lots of ponies and it seems like Fazers are the most common ones in ~$3k range. Are they good? Why are they so cheap? What's the max mileage worth buying?
>>
>>28878443
>I've heard some factories in US or China can make custom parts
That would probably require me to be familiar with cad software, wouldn't it?

>>28878445
I tried to frankenstein it with a newer one but the O ring design on the inside is different so it wouldn't close properly.
>>
>>28878460
They are Japanese. Mileage is irrelevant, go for a higher mileage bike with full service history.
>>
>>28878480

>>

I'd like to have a modern comfy and lightweight adventure bike. It has to disregard the A2 riders in the first place to achieve that, which never gonna happen unfortunately.
>>
>>28878501
I want that too. The 450GS, lighter, with more power.
>>
>>28878491
>should come down in price 10 years from now for me to afford.
Gen 2 hasn't.
>>
>>28878501
>lightweight adventure bike.
It's called a dual sport. Advs are heavy by definition because they're equivalent of suvs.
>>
>>28878506
>Advs are heavy by definition
No, all potential lightweight motorcycles are being gutted by a definition of A2 category (power/weight ratio 0.2kW/kg max).
>>
>>28878506
Alright let's start from the end.

Did you ever think why a modern 450cc adventure motorcycle with laughable suspension, no ground clearance and not fuel tank has the same 205kg wet weight as a proper 800cc adventure beast with massive forks and a big fuel tank?
>>
Why can't honda make this piece of shit good?
It rattles at idle thanks to its PAIR valves.
Other 4cyl bikes like z900 don't have this problem.
A bike that's louder at idle than when it's revving, in the most unpleasant way, what a joke.

It rattles brand new, that's just a design flaw. Go find any new cb650r and you'll see the same behavior:
idle — rattles
low revs — super quiet purring
>>

I don't think anyone is really disappointed but that's EXACT same price as Aprilia RS V4 which has 25 hp more. Couldn't they make it at least $500 cheaper? Nevertheless, I guess maintenance cost may be different cause Italian stuff isn't know for reliability.

Btw, I hope it won't disappear again any time soon and 600 and 750 will eventually be back too.

>>

it would help yes
and depend on what bike you want to get
if its 300cc or below scooter
i think as long as you know how to ride a bicycle
then you are good to go
anything more than that and/or isnt a scooter
you probably want to stick to beginner bikes
which is vary from 120cc all the way to 600cc classes
700cc is pushing it but possible

Do you have a good sense of balance?
If no, then get a bicycle and learn
If yes, doesn't matter. You'll instinctually keep yourself upright.
The only difference from a small bike and big bike is how much you twist the Throttle for go juice. If you have a steady hand, ok hand-eye-coordination, and instinctually good sense of balance then you can ride anything and not need to cuck yourself like most posters ITT do (they worship the tiktok bike ladder like a cult because an influencer who was paid by a dealership told them its the only way)

>>
Off to find something twisty
>>
>>28878774
It's spelled soul, with an U esl kun.
That being said, no, there isn't anything like Harley. There's similar, there's better bang for your buck, better power to weight ratio, but it ain't a Harley.
>>
>>28878721
In my opinion yes, you should know how to ride a bicycle quite well. E.g. to have a good feel for grip limits while braking both with front and rear brakes and to act properly when exceeding limit on each. Also to have a good feel for the lean angle you can do safely on subpar road conditions. Also learning to steer on slippery surfaces without overdoing inputs. And balancing well at slow speeds as well.

With that said, there are things that don't carry over at all from bicycles, so for example guys that shill learning on dirt bikes do have a point. You can't use your own weight to change behavior of motorcycle even to a remotely comparable degree. Plus you have to be aware on how downshifting in a rough manner or releasing throttle too fast can fuck up your grip and balance a lot in something like mud. Aaand braking is still different as there's far less weight on the rear tire. Oh and most importantly, neither cycling nor driving will teach you what keeps you safe in traffic while being on a motorcycle, what good habits you have picked up in a car might not do you many favors.

I'd say bikes like those have more sovl than a Harley, because they are more than just for looks and you just know that the old ones have seen some real shit. KLE 500 have very similar vibes though those are ptwins. Old thumper dual sports have big aura too but they are not as comfy.

But if you want cruiser larping then idk what to say, there's no sovl in showing off your brand. If I wanted a cruiser I'd look at the big Vulcans for mogging purposes.

But there was also budget constraints and the inevitable first bike gonna dump it learning to push limits probability
But jumping 100hp cbr/vfr to the zx14r wasnt all that much difference, i was expecting a huge gap; but once you grasp fundamentals with some saddle tine touring and distance it became way easier
That said, my back and knee have been kill from this job, cursed pibky is almost heal but i have no tendon movement for the outernost flexor digit, im wondering if in the next 2 more weeks itll be healed enough and the weather better to go riding or if ill need surgery on the hand ffs

00s Japanese boomer cruisers, some were even Made in USA™
They came in all kinds of flavors, water or air cooled, 45°/60°/90° even weird V angles like 52°, shaft, belt, chain, small 250s and up to a big 2L like the Vulcan. Some even sound Italian with 90° offset twin pin cranks like some Shadows while other boomer cruisers use a singlepin crank like Harley which have that classic "American" sound. Because a lot of fat old boomers consider them Jap scrap, they aren't very expensive either, which makes them a great option thanks to their reliability. Unfortunately, a lot were neglected and sitting to rot, so being handy helps in acquiring and riding one.

That means I'll have to go by what the size label says, the thing is: I don't know which size I'm even looking for.

"Normal" sizes seem to big for me or don't really fit well.
For reference, my best fitting pair of denims are Levi's 501 W32/L30.

Would love some advice here, most size charts from alpinestars etc. dont seem to work for me.

for gear I would say
you really really want to try them out in person
I tried buying my gears online with the size chart provide by the actual manufacture for that specific gear
and its still wrong
and I had to send them back in costing me money

As somebody who bought their bike last summer and has used it to drive to work every day since: you're not gonna save much time if you don't travel long distance on country roads or highways.

My daily commute is ~5 miles inner city with the occasional speed trap set up over night (not that I really care, but you never know).
There's a short stretch where I can just blast through due to nonexistance traffic in the very early morning, but other than that... I don't think I save much time.

Where I LOSE time is actually dressing for the ride. When I drove to work in my car, I was able to basically put on my work clothes, get behind the wheel and go. Takes like 90 seconds tops to put on some underwear, socks, a shirt, pants and a jacket.

Now with my riding gear, it takes like 5 minutes because that shit doesn't have any pockets, getting into your kevlar jeans is harder because of the pads, putting on your turtle back protector, baclava, the jacket, gloves, the helmet etc.
Then you walk to your bike, fumble around with the fucking brake lock, take off the backseat to store the lock, put the seat back on, get on your bike and drive to work.
At work you have to hurry again because you'll have to take off your gear and change into work clothes again, so... no, it doesn't save time on short commutes.

Still love riding my bike too much to NOT do it though.

if you live in a third world country where most people on motorcycles are totally squidding out then a bike would definitely be faster. but if you care about your skin and your ability to keep having it, the gear will definitely slow you down. but look on the bright side, this way you can go riding after work without needing to stop at home and change into your gear.

Man, I wish the new Ural Neo bikes weren't modern looking. They should've kept the aesthetics of these older Urals instead of the weird insectile look of modern bikes

That's not a real Ural, that's a rebadged chink bike.
Ural wanted a MASH partnership, but something about muh EU regulations fucked it up.
They took that whatever it was chink deal to secure funding for proper Ural production.

Theres only small piles of snow left now here and there so 4-6 weeks and we good to go, bros.

I guess you could ride already but tons of gravel on road and salt so i rather wait for clean up boys and some rain to flush the salt into the nature where it belongs.

Japanese brands that don't fit well on wibike for jackets are
Komine and rs taichi. Cortech/tourermaster fits fine with 41in chest. I've found alpinestars to be all over the place with shoe and glove sizes.
Full suits from alpines stars also don't fit me nor dainese. Haven't tried >>28879537 but that is probably a better option. Most my gear is used and I cannot suggest it for leathers, used leathers are really worn.

I too want this. Id spend the money on it just so I don't have to move to a 500 just to keep with traffic on wone roads.

Are motorcycle resellers greedy fucks everywhere?
I want to buy a Z900RS second hand. All these cupid fucks resell their used motorcycle at pretty much the same price than a brand new one. I'm in western Europe (Belgium, France).
Fuck them for real, it was my dram bike and now I'm thinking of settling for something cheaper.

>>
>>28879653
this is the other side of the coin of the high resales value japanese bike
people always forgot
oh sure they hold the price like gold
but as a buyer, you might just go buy brand new one at that point
even more so if there is new update that you want
but dont forget the dealer fee and out of the door price
those 8.5k bike sometime will cost you 9.2k between dealer fee, tittle or whatever fee that are charging you instead of MSRP
so technically buying a 1 year old used bike at 8k still save you thousand dollar

Scooter is defined by the position of the engine. If it's on the swing arm/inside the wheel (unsprung weight) then it's a scooter.

The Honda Supercub will always count among the finest of motorcycles.
>>
>>28879862
scoots are motorcycles tho
>>
>>28879871
but the Super Cub is not a scooter. It is a fine quality motorcycle. Smol yet stronk
>>
>>28879745
No, Scooter is defined by the quality of scootness. It's for scooting, not shooming. Scooting around town, scooting off to the lake or forest.
>>
>>28879705
it is technically an underbone, which is technically a motorcycle because >>28879745
this anon's definition of scooter is technically correct (engine on swingarm) but >>28879871
also yes, scoots are technically a motorcycle too. So we are all correct, we all frens 2 wheels good 4 wheels bad
>>
>>28879902
also this anon, scooting is scooting and shooming is shooming, it just make sense
>>
>>28879745
>Scooter is defined by the position of the engine. If it's on the swing arm/inside the wheel (unsprung weight) then it's a scooter.

What does /dbt/ think about my new scooter?
>>
>>28879946
How many beer's you be burrum' out there?
>>
>>28879902
This image illustrates what a scooter is:
1. Step through frame for women wearing skirts or dresses.
2. Small wheels for urban streets.
3. Engine is small, lightweight, designed for mileage over power.
4. Handlebar shifter or automatic to make riding easier for women and people in nice shoes.
5. Leg shield and floorboards protects clothing from street grime and water.
6. Body panels designed to cover mechanical parts like a car.
To the point, scooters are designed to appeal to a woman's sensibilities.

Anyone baking? I have an important post.

I just do not see any utility in the scooter/motorcycle distinction. Scoot bruvs and luvs ride on the same roads as us, at the same speed as the rest of traffic, and they run the exact same riskswhen some fuck head in an Altima makes an illegal left turn into traffic.

TL;DR: They get the duece when I see them out and about, same as a motorcycle. Not cyclists though. Not unless they can keep up with traffic.
>>
>>28879983

>>28879481
