HOW DO I IMPORT A BIKE TO GERMANY AS A NON RESIDENT.
I'm a burger tourist with family in the country fwiw, so I do have a valid address I can use.
>>
I'm the one asking about swapping CB125F for Super Cub.

I live in Portugal, I don't think we get Hunter Cubs or Trail Hondas here, at least I haven't seen any.

I don't think the pain in getting is from poor suspension but because my thigh gap might not be wide enough or I'm just to short since I can teach the ground only while tiptoed or by leaning the bike to the side.

That's why I looked at Super Cub since the seat is very different and there's no fuel tank between the legs.

>I don't understand ape hangers. What is the point of them? Are they comfortable or something?
Ape hangers ideally raise the hands around shoulder height, allowing the rider to sit more upright. This makes long rides more comfortable since you're not leaned forward supporting your torso with your arms. Cruiser riders can't really use their legs to help support their body like sportbike riders do. Raised arms, upright torso, and feet forward resting on highway pegs makes riding all day very easy. As long as your ape hangers aren't so extreme they take your handa too high then apes are very practical.

The article: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-48585038
A North Carolina motorcyclist has died after he was struck by lightning while riding on the I-95 inter-state highway in Florida.

It remains unclear whether the man, who has not been identified, was killed by the lightning bolt or the subsequent crash, state troopers say.

The Florida Highway Patrol posted a photo of the 45-year-old man's helmet, which appeared cracked and burned.

Officials say an off-duty policeman witnessed the lightning strike.

The accident occurred in Ormond Beach, on Florida's Atlantic coast, around 15:00 local time (19:00 GMT).

Florida Highway Patrol Captain Kim Montes said a Virginia State Police trooper who was in the area on holiday, saw a bolt of lightning hit the man's helmet moments before the crash.

Cpt Montes confirmed that the helmet had been shattered, with scorch marks that indicated that it had been hit by lightning.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that the man's 2018 Harley Davidson flipped after rolling into the grass median following the strike.

Authorities have not named the motorcyclist, from Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to the US National Weather Service, an average of 49 people are killed by lightning in the US every year.

Only around 10% of strikes are fatal, experts say, but strikes often lead to lifelong injuries.

Since 2016, there have been 10 motorcycle-related lightning deaths according to John Jensenius, a meteorologist with the National Lightning Safety Council.

But he noted that several of those deaths occurred with riders who were not on motorcycles when they were struck.

Rbh I wouldn't shill out 10k for an Ural either, especially the 8.100 series.
I'd much rather buy a project M61 and an 750OHV engine separately for about 5 grand and build myself the ultimate Ural.
The M67 based frames are frankly ugly and I don't like the looks of the 8.123 and onwards models.

Look how the frame on the M61 is like a wedge towards the rear, beautiful.
Now compare it to the frame of the M67 and onwards where it's just flat beams welded into 90 degree angles, looks like a steel shelving unit.

Anons, out of curiosity, why is it that 2 stroke dirt bikes aren’t good for the road even if you go through all the hoops to do it? Why is it that even a dirt bikes aren’t from the 70’s has to be rebuilt after so little hours?
>>
>>28945326
This is just a regular social media site my guy. Not like it was 20 yrs ago
>>
>>28945324
Was probably me, the 650 OHV crankshafts are 5 piece pressed together contraptions, whereas the 750 is 3 piece.
The 5 pieces are really flimsy and prone to twisting really easily.
Also they stopped making them in like 2001 completely, supply is slowly running out because like 90% of them are stuck in Russia.
>>
>>28945329
Do you know when people say things like "i'd rather have torque vs horsepower"? 2-stroke engines have dogshit torque curves but make a lot of power. Even the guys who like peaky high horse engines have generally conceded that 2 strokes are no fun for everyday use, you need to be racing. I've only ever ridden an old kawasaki 2 stroke road bike, so my personal experience is admittedly limited. However, this is what I gathered from that experience, and talking to the owner of said bike about his fondness for 2 strokes.

Should I buy a 25 year old katana 600 or a 25 year old ninja 400 or a 25 year old zx6r?

All clapped to the moon and back fb marketplace deals all sub $2000. I've ridden hella dirt bikes and fo wheelas, but I want a old ass street bike to commute 3 miles to work and back. My daily driver is an inline 6 and it only takes premium, which is just a bitch and a half in the current economy. Want something cheap that looks kinda cool that I can wrench on. I'm leaning towards the katana. Also no I won't buy a dual sport or a cruiser I want an early 2000s street bike.
>>
>>28945342
That makes sense I guess. I also have a fondness for 2 strokes. It’s a shame it’s just like that, but admittedly there is a part of me that wishes it were more practical to take an older (70’s) or newer (00’s) YZ250 and just street legal it. But either way, apparently the engines need to be rebuilt after like 60 hours. Which is nothing compared to road bikes.

Ohhh ok. I gotcha. Yeah I remember; but man that’s unfortunate. I guess I could keep an eye out on the 750’s but in my area there doesn’t appear to be many.
I mean I get it’s a 2020, but look at this. You want 18 grand for a bike that’s 6 years old, and retailed for 17,500? I’d rather eat soggy cereal.

>>
>>28945388
What's wrong with them?
>>
>>28945392
Nothing. Just you dont see them anymore. In early 2000’s everyone had them on their rear seat for “aesthetics” first and utility later.
>>
>>28945400
I've got one on the back of my scrambler right now.
>>
>>28945377
The thing with 750s, especially post 2005 ones is that they're pretty much completely handcrafted and they use a lot of fancy parts like paiolin and ohlins auspension, keihin EFI, nippon denso epectronics, SKF/FAG bearings with CNC/laser cut Herzog gears in the engine and tranny.
I understand the price as they're not pumped out by the thousands per month anymore. It's not the tractor of a bike it used to be, they're "fancy" boutique bikes now.

You can make do with a 650 too, but you have to know your way around their flaws and quirks or living with one will be pure agony.
I love my 650 and after the 3rd engine rebuild it's been fairly stout, only had some minor issues thus far like leaky intake gaskets and the cardan wedge bolt coming loose.

>I want an early 2000s street bike.
Based as fuck. Of those, the ZX6R is probably the best bike. Depends on how clapped out it is, of course, but of the options, the ZX6R is the best. The styling of the Katana is absolutely iconic, though, and the Ninja 400 is the default "best ever starter bike", so no matter what you go with you'll likely be happy. That said, go with the ZX6R, it's a real, dedicated, liquid cooled supersport instead of the oil-cooled katana. It's got around 20 more horsepower which makes a hell of a difference on a bike.
The Katana will probably be comfier, however!

the motorcycle market in the USA is old in general, the median age of a motorcyclist in this country is over 50, and it's been in the forties for a long time
https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/todays-motorcyclists-revealed-by-latest-mic-owner-survey-300789236.html
one guy has estimated a higher age, but in their financial documents harley has been reporting a consistent average rider age in the mid upper forties for about twenty years now
https://archive.vn/a3dNL
so it seems theyve reached a market equilibrium in the states where people age into harley and then people age out of motorcycling
of course, all this you have to remember is in the context of our aging population in general. the median american is 40.
while some people motorcycle into their 60s, 70s, 80s, the fact of the matter is most people start when we're young and retarded. And there's less young retards now.

eh not really, thats just cope from sportbike riders.
harley is still selling $50k CVO road glides, meanwhile yamaha axed the R6 and R1, suzuki and kawasaki are thinking the same.
is their future bleak if they dont change? yes, will they change? Yes
if harley wanted to, they could make an inline 4 or V4 SS and take a dump on japan and italy, but they dont see a need to do it.

There is only one fag who gave the right suggestion. CB500x, this is really good. Also consider CB300R, Ninja 300, 400, 500, Himi 411, Himi 450, G310, F450GS, DR650, KLR 650, Meteor 350, Duke 390, Triumph 400s. Continental GT 650 or INT 650. Rebel 300, 500. Aprilla 457. Pick anything made in the last 5 years.

Ergonomy: Pick naked bike like CB300R or duke 390. If you are a tall fag, get an ADV like G310GS, F450GS, Himi, DR650, KLR650.
Sound: You are asking for too much in the low end. But twins with 270 do sound good. Aprillia RS457, INT650 or GT 650.
Price: I'd suggest that you get used and stay within 5000USD, for new, around 7000USD.

Plan to spend around 500 to 700USD on gear. Spend more if you want to stay alive. If you get best of the best gear, with airbag vest, arai helmet, you'll spend more, also get more.

You will drop your bike, just buy a used one, so you'll not care as much when you drop.

The VF series is an excellent line with cool history. The "chocolate cams" where an issue back in the day but any example that has survived into the modern day, if their mileage exceeds ~15,000, was either spared this defect or has had them replaced. I'd say any of the 750 examples would make a fine starter bike as long as your aware of the maintenance obligations of vintage bikes.

Yeah those fkers tried to bait and switch me on an FTR with. $2k prep fee.
I'm debating just going with a M8 114 over the Revmax Sporty.
To be honest i don't desire 200mph, at the same time I see these things are making 125+ torque with cam + exhaust + intake +tune.
But back during the test ride of the red Nightster I posted a few months back. I noticed the front part of the engine had a strange rattle sound, not like Valve tick. Good thing I pulled out because I found out 2021 to 2024 models have an issue where the Cam Timing Bolts back themselves out, and that rattling from the front side is that noise.
It can happen on all the Revmax engines and there's no recall. It's just missing red loctite, easy fix.

This is why we cant have nice things
Also, speaking of impostor syndromes

I was recently moving the airbox from the subframe, tilted it at an odd angle, and about 150-200ml of oil pooled out aftet i shook it up, at first noticing a trail left behind when i moved it
So im wondering
I had one super tight intake valve, and now seeing this, im wondering if the piston rings are indeed passing in addition to this one intake valve needing major adjustment of the 4 and 3 other need minor
Which is the root cause of this airbox pool pass, pp ring or the valve?

youre not changing gears when you do this, you're already in first gear and youre slipping the clutch while adding throttle

either you are blipping the throttle to get the revs up, or you're releasing the throttle to make the revs fall, you shouldn't be sitting there with the throttle a little open

>>
Bros, riding sport bikes is kinda hard. Being on the drz is such an easy, breezy, beautiful cover girl kind of ride, but the R6 wants to be at the top of each gear constantly. I was thinking to myself, "gee, it's kind of windy." I looked down, and I'm doing 95 in the middle of third. On the XRR, I'd hit 100mph at the top of fifth. I get it now why people have difficulties with low-speed stuff. A supermoto is easy mode and makes me feel like a pro.
Also, sometimes, it doesn't want to shift into first. It's that a sport bike thing, or do I need to adjust something.

As far as I know only the V45 was given the bad cams. Magnas and Sabers should be fine. While Honda never admitted to the cam issue on the V45 they did offer to replace them with proper ones if they where discovered case by case.

I wouldn't consider the 1100 to be too much as long as you show it respect and appreciate the slightly steeper learning curve. Though I wouldn't trade my 750 for a 1000 Interceptor, I say go for the 1100. Either way you'll be satisfied I think. But I've never ridden a 6 speed VF bike. V45s are only 5 speed and a little long in the gearing.

I've read up on it, ALL first gen Honda V4's had bad cams, but it didn't always happen and it wasn't solely the cam's fault, it was the flash chromed rockers / followers that trough normal wear of the cams revealed surface inclusions in the cams due to shitass nippon steelworking, fucking those rockers' finish up, which then in turn made short work of the cams (pic rel).
Means I have to check the cams and rockers if I buy one.

It should have dual front brakes, it's ridiculous that 500lb "sports"ster that costs $16k has a single disc front. A fucking CB500F has dual front brakes
>>
>>28945945
Doesn't matter if the single disk is enough to stop it properly.
>>
>>28945936
Do not engine brake for long periods if you are using premix. And avoid long open runs. If you decide to upgrade, go Malossi.

https://youtube.com/shorts/gUIyT6QHqCU
>>
>>28945952
On a bike with a 43mm "performance tuned" front fork you should have dual discs. It's a joke to design a bike to be ridden hard and not have one of the most basic performance items on a motorcycle.
>>
>>28945945
It's because geriatrics won't buy a bike with dual discs,
>>
>>28945936
It's a Minarelli AM6 in it, isn't it? They might be a tad sluggish with factory restrictors.
Remove the restrictors and maybe rejet the carb and you'll finally be able to experience 2 stroke properly.

The only one comparable is VW group/Piaggio.
Suzuki, Harley, and BMW Motorrad have no margin for error, unless their government bails them out.
>>28945945
no need for it, dual disks is better cooling, but a large brake and rotor will stop better in the real world.
I'll take single brembo over dual nissins every day of the week.
But for sales, upside-down forks/monoshock, yeah they should have.

>no need for it, dual disks is better cooling, but a large brake and rotor will stop better in the real world.
It has a very typical 320mm disc. A RnineT has 310mm discs and a Speed Twin 1200 has 320mm discs. The FTR also had twin 320mm discs. The Sportster S just seems to be afflicted with the same disease many HDs from the past decade seem to suffer from, it looks cool but that's about it. It has 1.5 inches of suspension travel, a stupidly wide front tire chosen exclusively for aesthetics. It's a bike made to look at, not to ride. Even then the exhaust still looks like a leaf blower nozzle.

You're right, I think Harley wanted the Revmax bikes to fail, sabotage is the only reason for a high price with mediocre specs. 1 in. rear suspension travel is criminal, you cant even go over a pothole.
But those nightsters flew off the shelves from what dealers told me and the Panam did well so the boomers got shafted.

I didn’t know it was the same for so long
The Wikipedia article is very detailed
I will be reading
>>
>>28946100
I won't be able to find these articles because they don't exist. CAFE has never regulated greenhouse gas emissions (other than as a side effect of reduced gasoline consumption). CAFE standards are set and maintained by the DoT, while the EPA sets greenhouse gas emissions standards. While they have changed standards at the same time the standards are legally distinct.

If you are so sure that these articles exist surely you can link me one.

Idk about honder but suzuki had a lighter frame on the 550s. Drum brake rear too. I imagine it would be similar with honda. I've only ridden the Suzuki 750 and 1000 as far as vintage, though. I too am experienced and IMO it comes down to acceptable performance and feel. IMO the 750 was the better bike of the two, but the 1000 certainly had this big bike feel to it that I imagine some people like. Tldr ride both if you can and decide.

>>
>>28946275
They hit the steering stops before anything else unless you have some really jacked up clipon setup but the general lack of space between the frame and the fairing for handlebars is why they're like that I guess. Fuel tank isn't really a consideration on its own, on my GSX-R most of what's close to the bars is just a hollow plastic cover which is why bikes with even moderate clipon risers can fix this shit, it's when the bars are beneath the top of the frame you're just kind of hosed.
>>
>>28946263
I noticed the same thing today. I'm used to how far you can turn the bars on a dual sport, and it keeps catching me off guard.

>I mean worst case scenario if the engine busts I could just swap it, right?
Right. A modern carbed 750 engine might be pricy, but they're basically set for life in these things.
Even so despite all the horror stories, the 650 when treated right will get you quite far too and be relatively easy to live with.

To be honest all the engine breakdowns I've had were largely my fault.
1st one was when I pushed the bike to around 160kmh, which it does not like on an engine that had been flooded for a decade and hastily put together.
2nd one was probably due to not properly seating the flywheel to the crankshaft which caused it to wobble, crack the crank snput and twist the crank assembly.
On my 3rd rebuild currently and it's been a year of largely no issues at all.

Urals are avibe as the kids say, they're objectively bad bikes, but something about them just clicks with you after spending some time with them.

VW beetle and early honda gomdwing swaps are quite common in these things, along with yanmar V2 engines.
BMW airhead engines were the go to swap for reliability on these, but airheads are starting to get quite rare nowadays.
