Found this bike for sale. It’s a 1977 Harley. Do you guys think I should go for it? I’m not a fan of the paint or the front end, but sounds like a simple fix.
Description-
>77 hard tail custom, selling for a friend in tampa, bike presently does not run, just wouldn’t start one day, he doesn’t know what is wrong, literally sitting in his living room room, give me a little time to answer messages/ questions , but I’ll do my best to answer as fast as possible, he is not looking to trade, unless it’s cash, then yeah he will. Bike is in great condition. Squeaky clean title in his hands. Just waiting on you.

What I don't like is the rear fender.

I know the internet boomers keep insisting the V65 has "chocolate" internals, but is it really that bad? A 90's V45 should be unkillable but it doesn't have the same ... I don't know, girth. There's also only three or four V65 on sale in europe but a lot more V45.

Redpill me on the Ural.
Description-
>This is a 2000 Ural Patrol with 7821 km on it. My kids and I love it, but we’re moving and won’t be able to take the bike with us. It runs great but has a bad alternator. Yes, this thing has an alternator, not a stator. I keep it on a battery tender and am able to get to work and back on that, but it will need to be replaced for longer trips. It has the dents and dings that come with a 26 year old bike, but other than that it’s in great shape.

Brake fluid 100%

They have to be bled properly in order to not have air in the master cylinder. Many used vfrs never get their brake/clutch fluid replaced. Here's how you properly bleed the system.
Aside from that and all the normal shit you check when buying bike the only thing I can think of is checking the charging system (stator resistors of the era were known to blow due to high heat melting them all y2k era bikes do that)

Bookmark this video, it's a golden resource for properly servicing 98-01 vfrs (aka the best vfr gen)

5th gens do 100k miles easy, 200k, 300k, etc. They were used as japanese police bikes because of their unrivaled reliability thanks to those gear driven cams. It's the closest you'll get to the RC45 too
>>
>>28944216
You can literally take the entire engine out of the old Harleys (pre evo) and put it on a bench in an afternoon. You're just incompetent. It's just a little sportster too not even one of the big bikes.

Rad. Just one thing Anon, you see this part in your Link:
>?si=SRkR7xLvuPAdU_1-
Delete that shit when sharing links, that's a tracking-tag, with that YouTube knows who shares which video and builds association graphs for palantir or some other gay pre-crime fag ass motherfuckers. If you share links around with these, you might one day in the future have cops kicking in your door and kill your dog because some weirdo who clicked your links once shot up a school or something and the system associated them with you, prompting the pigs to raid your home to find out what you know about that weirdo, which will be nothing because it was a publicly shared link.
They're at least random for each person per video as no one can forge your Id on those videos, but YouTube still knows who clicked your link.
Safe link looks like this: https://youtu.be/pVoXGGXRl5k
This happens with all GAYMAN sites and most tech sites in general, you usually want to trim a link until you can access it without any fluff.

Stay safe!

A very late 650, a 8.123 with CVK carbs and the 14.3771 500W alternator it seems, I don see a cush drive at least.
I think most if not all 650s were with K68 carbs instead of those Keihin CVK32s, if they are genuine.
The air filter housing looks a bit odd too.
Also shit's got an electric starter which are somewhat rare in 650s.

Depending on what differential its got, this thing will not do anything above 80kmh/55mpv and even then you might want to reconsider pushing it even that far.
Old saying doing 100kmh will get you 100km in a hour, doing 60kmh will get you around the world eventually.

5 grand for a 650 is a hard sell, first thing I'd do is ditch the alternator for a Denso unit.

Does anything stateside scratch the itch of the XSR900 GP?
Actually, just why the FUCK won't they bring the xsr900 GP to the USA? All we have are chinese-inspired ANGLES, SHARP EDGES, and ANGRY EYES. When are the 80s/90s retro trackbikes/beautiful rounded fairings going to come back? Close enough I guess is the CB1000f SE, but it'll still be months before those get here.
Genuinely crazy there's nothing that scratches that 90s superbike itch as well as 90s superbikes. I mean I can keep buying those, sure, but they're gonna all rot to being shitbike tier pretty soon with blown out forks and missed valve jobs.

>What are these things really worth?
Dunno about the US, I can get them anywhere between from 2 grand to free, so I'm not a good yard stick for pricing them.
Realistically somewhere in the 2 to 3 grand range for a clean 650 sounds about right, but these are EU prices.
For 5 grand I'd expect it to be a 750 OHV already, 5 grand for a 650 ain't it to be honest. You can tell the 750 and 650 OHVs apart by their valve covers, the 650 has round, pill shaped covers, whereas the 750s have 2 notches cut on them, making them more figure 8 shaped.
These are not highway cruiser bikes as I said, they live comfortably at around 3k rpm and 60kmh tops, anything beyond that without a cop differential runs the risk of twisting the crank or similar shenanigans. The crankshaft of the 650 is its weakest link as it's a pressed together 5 piece crank. They're very fragile or rather delicate as manhandling or rpighing them too much might knock them out of alignment and ruin your engine.

Even then that's a leading link front fork, so riding it solo, without a sidecar, might be a horrible experience.

Also those 14.3771 alternators suck shit. They're known as hand grenades for a reason. They tend to drop the shaft into your timing case and jam the gears, the stuck cast steel gears will rapidly find their way outside of the aluminium block along qith your timing gears, destroying everything in their path.

The CB750 is a vibe of a motorcycle
>>
>>28944444
>Quints
Tell me about the vibe.
>>
>>28944442
Objectively speaking it's the worst bike I've ever had, but I wouldn't trade my Ural for any other bike.
I sold my Moto Guzzi after a full engine rebuild and like 500 metres put on it just because I preferred the Ural over it despite its flaws. the Guzzi is all around a better bike, but I just wasn't feeling it. I contemplated some jap bike too as a reliable cruiser for long distance trips, we're talking across Europe trips which I wouldn't even imagine doing on a 650 Ural, but I just ended up buying a 750 IHV engine off a 2004 Ural for mine.

Urals require a lot of attention, dedication and patience, the payoff honestly isn't much, but I've never enjoyed a bike as much as I have my Ural. Even working on them is fun, many times I've started some quick 5 minute fix, ended up spending 8 hours doing various things around the bike, improvements and such without noticing the passage of time at all, only realizing after my manager calls me
>you didn't come to work today
>Yeah, I sure didn't, had something more important to do
>>
>>28944359
That would be crazy if you are stateside as right now they are Australia, New Zealand, and Japan only I believe
>>
>>28944442
Urals aren’t for newfag bikers desu
>>
>>28944449
Shit anon I am new at this motorcycling thing and have no real frame of reference for other bikes.
I just take mine around the neighborhood.
Easy/cheap to work on.
No pesky expectations from others.
Easy enough to ride.
It is simply a vibe.
>>
>>28944455
So basically don’t get one unless you know how to fix things? That’s unfortunate.
>>
>>28944462
Honestly yeah, if you ain't got the patience to fix it, it's a bust.
Also finding parts for the 650s is starting to get difficult, due to current world situation and because crankshafts for the 650s haven't been produced since 2001 or so, all you can find now are aliexpress specials with horrible build quality, they're twisted from the factory and the slinger plates aren't even properly attached.
750s are a bit better off and IMZ is fighting tooth and nail to "keep existing bikes running" and get production for 750 parts running, there were some murmurs about restarting 650 parts production too.

On the plus side they are ridiculously easy bikes to fix, like you can take almost everything apart and put back together on the roadside if need be. I've heard of Uralists replacing snapped cranks and camshafts on the side of the road with just the original tool roll.
>>
>>28944479
Well, maybe it’s not a total bust then. The most work I’ve done on a car is replacing my alternator, and changing the oil. lol
The thing that does attract me to the Ural is it’s a road bike that’s apparently really good for off-road. Like I said, I’m open to other bikes. I’m just seeing what sticks basically. I don’t want to go 200mph, but I’m not totally sure what I’m looking for either.
>>
>>28944489
Well it's sink or swim with an Ural then, gotta start somewhere.
That being said, I'd look for a telescopic fork Ural instead of leading link, the LL bikes do not like riding without a sidecar, whereas a regular telescopic front fork bike can drop the sidecar for solo riding.
Sidecars handle more akin to an ATV than a motorcycle.

Also if that rig has a proper 2WD differential, meaning there's a prop shaft going to the sidecar wheel, it's going to be an absolute monster offroad and aside for climbing straight walls, that thing will get you stuck into places some dadventure bikes wouldn't even imagine going close to.
Again the experience offroad is comparable to an ATV, it'll waddle through knee deep mud like it was nothing.
Get stuck, smack it into reverse and try again.
>>
>>28944496
That does sound like fun. lol I appreciate that information, anon. God bless you, and thank you for talking to me about it. It sounds like hybrid of an atv, road bike, and something like a DRZ. Haha
